  1. NY Cuban says:

IF we lose with Castillo tonight, is it fair to ask for a shake up and A. Reyes the rest of the way? Regardless of OBP, zone ratings…just look at the Wins vs the losses…

    • danlx13 says:

we are not getting any offensive help from any of our second basemen unless easily comes back…..therefore put in reyes because i think he is better defensively

      • Hit The Weights Zeile says:

exactly. if our 2nd baseman can’t hit he might as well be able to field. argenis at least gives you good range and a good glove.

        • metsmad22 says:

and a 16-6 record for the team when he plays, as opposed to a sub-.500 record with castiNO

        • Sylar says:

          ^Which means absolutely nothing…

If Easley is at all able to start this week, then do so. If not, Castillo plays, because the offensive difference outweighs the defensive difference…

        • metsmad22 says:

there is no offensive difference…..castillo is horrendous.

    • I am one who actually believes that Castillo somehow brings bad results to the team.

But how can you think the same thing after saying for nearly a year the problem was basically Willie?

      • NY Cuban says:

Willie is gone and the team got better. Do you really want me to harp on Willie? He’s gone. Reyes and Delgado got better…JUST AS I PREDICTED. Maybe give me a little credit for understanding that “chemistry” is more important than stats.

Willie was bad for the team…he’s gone. We got better. I don’t care about him anymore. I care about the METS…this team. Now, with what I observe, Castillo is an issue. Lets resolve it. Thats all I’m asking for.

        • metsmad22 says:

I’ve been clamouring for Castillo’s exile for ages……if i have accomplished one thing this year with going on the FAN and on message boards it is to awaken fans to the fact that castillo is as much a problem for this team as anything.

        • The team got better?

Teams naturally go through ups and down during the season. It just might be that Jerry took over at a fortunate time, especially considering how Johan is a second half pitcher, and Pelfrey grew a lot during the year.

And if the team doesn’t make the playoffs, it will really be even more debatable how much better the team got.

You can harp on Willie all you want. I don’t care. Bash him if you want to now. It’s just that if you feel Castillo is a big reason for the team’s poor play, then it stands to reason that Willie probably wasn’t a major one.

And that’s just nonsense about Reyes getting better under Manuel. He has been playing better all year long.

The only one who got better under Manuel was Delgado. Figures you’d try to revise history.

        • And another thing, right before they fired Wilie, the team had been playing better, winning their previous few series.

        • therealsince86 says:

Castillo is not THE problem he is ONE of the problems. And in the scheme of things one of the smaller ones. Lack of production from 2B hurts but not as bad as Maine, Pedro, Wagner, and the entire pen falling apart.
Reading some of these guys you would think that all the Mets need to do next year is release Castillo, trade Heilman and start Awful Reyes and we would win 106 games next season.

  2. uppertank says:

castillo stinks and so does a. reyes…

  3. Hit The Weights Zeile says:

so much for the cubs resting players. we’ll be lucky to split this series. putting us in a nice must sweep situation against florida who will be thrilled to push us out of the playoffs. nice job mets.

  4. metsfan42793 says:

let today be the start of a 7 game winning streak

  5. zen says:

7 playoff games in september. though these are even more tense because winning 4 doesn’t mean you go forward.

    i don’t see a pitcher’s duel tonight. 8-6 mets

  6. Wow, it appears Gooden will be at the ceremonies to close Shea. Look at the sidebar. Awesome.

    • zen says:

      retire #16.

it might just be for the autographs not necessarily at shea. though i’d go to that game for sure if he was finally back.

      • You think he’d come back to Queens that weekend only to avoid Shea? I can’t see it. That would be terrible.

        I think he’ll be there.

He wasn’t at Yankee Stadium yesterday, was he? Would be nice if he shows up at Shea after having avoided the Bronx.

    • khmustache says:

sweet! i wonder if he can come out of the pen?

  7. BullpenHelp says:

Phils traded for Brad Lidge, signed Chad Durbin, re-signed JC Romero, signed Rudy Seanez and dealt nothing for Scott Eyre. They have ERA+s of 238, 150, 167, 120 and 218 respectively.

All of those players potentially could have been Mets. Three were free agents and Eyre was dealt for nothing so it wouldn’t have cost us a top prospect. All of them except for Seanez have a better ERA+ than every Met reliever except Wagner. And Seanez is better than all but three others.

But Minaya did all he could? How do you get outdone by the Phils GM who has significantly less money to spend???

    • kendychavez says:

those guys are having career years. it’s just incredibly lucky for the phillies, like the 2005 white sox who got huge years out of several relievers who have been mediocre outside that season.

not that minaya should get off blame-free, but the idea that the phillies are smart enough to know that they were putting together such a good bullpen is laughable. they’re extremely fortunate it has all come together for them. do you not think that mets fans would’ve been up in arms with a stupid contract like the one the phils gave romero? this isn’t incredibly advanced scouting the mets missed out on.

      • BullpenHelp says:

I’m not heartened by the suggestion that the Phils got lucky 5 times while our Mets got unlucky 5 times. That kind of talk is a sad excuse, nothing more.

Romero was lights out last year. Only the Phils guessed he’d be that good this year? We shell out 4 years for Luis Castillo but wouldn’t for a good bullpen arm?

        • therealsince86 says:

Why on earth do you automatically as sume that Romero would have left Philly to come to the Mets?

        • BullpenHelp says:

          I don’t.

The point is that everyone keeps making lame excuses for Minaya.

The Phils found 5 competant bullpen arms for their playoff stretch run. Each have an ERA+ over 120. Four have an ERA+ over 150, better than all but Wagner’s 179. The Phils found 5 and the Mets found none.

But I guess we didn’t want any good relievers in our bullpen.

        • therealsince86 says:

So you completely discount what Ayala and Stokes have been for this pen?

        • BullpenHelp says:

Ayala has an ERA+ of 102 and if you think he should be your closer… well… what else can I say?

Stokes has been better (125), but still only barely exceeds Seanez’s 120.

        • therealsince86 says:

Can you read or do you just make stuff up? Where on earth did I say I wanted Ayala as my closer? I believe Wagner was our closer?

      • therealsince86 says:

Not to mention that it would have been hard to sign Romero after he had pitched for Philly the season before. Or the fact that Seanez was and still is terrible and Eyre would have been our 104th LHRP at the time and had about a 9.00 ERA. The only one that would have interested me at the time was of course Lidge and I wanted to trade for him the same as everyone else. However, the Astro’s way overvalued Bourn.

        • BullpenHelp says:

          You’re only interested in Lidge.

I’m interested in the other 4 relievers in their bullpen who were available and are pitching better than anyone we’ve got healthy.

        • therealsince86 says:

Again, Seanez is terrible. We could not have gotten Romero being that he clearly wanted to stay in Philly. Eyre would have seriously been our 4th LHRP and had an ERA around 9.00. Durbin would have been an ok pick up and Lidge would have been huge. What more do you want me to say?

        • kendychavez says:

you’re just making excuses. it’s clear minaya is a helpless idiot by not giving romero a 3 year deal and doing what most other GMs did and ignoring pieces of garbage like durbin and eyre.

  8. dazedandconfused says:

Let’s go Niese shut down these overrated cubbies!!!!!!

  9. dwright57 says:

we are so screwed…….the cubs gotta rest some of there dudes this week no??

We gotta hope their starters dont pitch more than 5 and get rested up…..

But that lineup might tee off tonight

  10. NY Cuban says:

If Niese throws a gem, is Pedro’s post-season spot in jeopardy?

    (I think it should be)

    • therealsince86 says:

If Niese gives up 3 in 6 innings then Pedro should never start for us again. In fact I would start Knight over Pedro this week if Pedro HAS to pitch.

  11. therealsince86 says:

    Lets remember Mike’s battle charge.

With that said, I still believe in this team, and you should too. Yes, the bullpen is horrific and the offense is spotty late in games, but this is no time to abandon this team or be negative.

We are Mets fans, dammit! We’re not front runners. We’re a collection of hopeful believers that loves our team until the very end, regardless of how joyful or brutal the outcome.

This team needs our support and we should all give it, with no strings attached.

If you will be at the games this week, I urge you to refrain from booing and cheer this time with everything you have. You don’t need to bring anything more than your loud voice and your heart.

As the late great Tug McGraw told Mets fans in 1973, ‘Ya Gotta Believe!’

  12. miker94 says:

very disappointed to see crapillo and church in the lineup. should be evans and murph on the corners. church can’t hit the broad side of a barn. what a shame…

    • metsmad22 says:

can’t have evans and murph in the same outfield, too much inexperience…..what it should be, however, is argenis reyes and endy chavez.

      • NY Cuban says:

too many holes with Endy too. If Castillo comes out, Church stops pressing and will get better. Start there.

        • therealsince86 says:

Why would Church stop pressing if Castillo was replaced with Reyes? If Easley was available I would completely agree. But even you have to know that Awful Reyes is an even worse hitter than Castillo. If you want to say Awful is a better defender then fine but please don’t say that Church would press more with Castillo than he would awful.

        • NY Cuban says:

You’re right…I was hasty with my response. How about we just win so I can feel better about this team…at least for tonite.

  13. Airfeet says:

Very dissapointed to see Cubs playing all their starers…ANY CHANCE WE SEE PARNELL TONIGHT…ANY CHANCE?

  14. nyj0126 says:

We’ll win this game… The curse has been broken. Just win.

The other night after winning 3 straight Jerry Manuel said the word Matt shouldn’t have posted…

  15. nyj0126 says:

I’m feeling good about this game. Even better tomorrow with Johan. The Cubs aren’t going to break ther backs to win this game. Let’s hope we get some help from the Brewers.

  16. nyj0126 says:

And the Phillies losing too if it’s possible

  17. darknova says:

Niese will pitch well tonight. The offense woke up last night at the end… sort of. Final homestand at Shea, they’ll find a way, I can feel it.

  18. Airfeet says:

    nasty curve

  19. khmustache says:

    niese!

  20. SantanaCYYOung says:

soriano got struck out twice in that ab

  21. metsmad22 says:

    love that hook….

  22. khmustache says:

    yes!

  23. nyj0126 says:

The Reds win over Florida helped… Now the only way the only way the game Fri will count for them is if the Marlins picked up 2 1/2 in this series which I don’t think will happen…

Score some in the bottom of the 1st inning Mets please…

    • SantanaCYYOung says:

i completely agree, i was monitoring that game closely for the same reasons.

i’ll also be looking at the houston series tomorrow as one more loss for them will completely take them out ot the race and then we’ll only have milwaukee to worry about and the phills ahead of us

  24. miker94 says:

    tight strikezone tonight, uh oh…

  25. khmustache says:

    great inning kid!

  26. Airfeet says:

Niese is so much better than Pedro

  27. SantanaCYYOung says:

good start, let’s get 6 runs in the first to make it a great start

  28. nyj0126 says:

    Good job Jon…

  29. khmustache says:

wow…what’s with that hsbc lumberjack commercial? how was that for a bank?…

  30. darknova says:

Looks like he’s doing a good job of:
    1) Mixing his pitches up
    2) Nasty curve
    3) Keeping the ball down
    4) Good spotting on the fastball

Good start, kid. Keep it up.

  31. Airfeet says:

I WOULDNT MIND SEEING REYES TRY TO LAY A BUNT DOWN…HOW COME HE NEVER DOES THAT?

    • kingman 26 says:

You are SO right…he could add 10–15 points to his average if he bunted regularly…I wonder this all the time too.

  32. SantanaCYYOung says:

i can’t believe how empty shea is

  33. miker94 says:

story of mets season, phils lead off with 2 doubles just as reyes pops up…

  34. khmustache says:

didn’t soriano hurt himself doing that earlier in the year?

  35. Airfeet says:

reyes has really gotta just get on base….

  36. SantanaCYYOung says:

it is not a good sign when the mets don’t score a first inning run

  37. Airfeet says:

please dont get 1 hit today…please dont get 1 hit today…please dont get 1 hit today…please dont get 1 hit today

  38. nyj0126 says:

these phillies won’t lose… 1-0. gotta win tonight with the brew crew off

  39. dazedandconfused says:

typical for the braves to bend over for the Phillies!

  40. nyj0126 says:

the philles are just on fire but the braves sure could try harder. if the mets bullpen didnt bend over the braves hitters though maybe things would look different

  41. Airfeet says:

    nice dive reyes

  42. SantanaCYYOung says:

    snakebitten

  43. NY Cuban says:

Why are we just going through the motions?

  44. MetsFan4Decades says:

    Crap.

  45. Darth Manuel says:

WHERE’S THE BREAKING BALL SCHNEIDER??? YOU TOOL

  46. nyj0126 says:

ok its over. pure bs. this is how things go, doesn’t it? well its not over but the bleeding better stop here

  47. dazedandconfused says:

    well this game is over

    • therealsince86 says:

With that said, I still believe in this team, and you should too. Yes, the bullpen is horrific and the offense is spotty late in games, but this is no time to abandon this team or be negative.

If you will be at the games this week, I urge you to refrain from booing and cheer this time with everything you have. You don’t need to bring anything more than your loud voice and your heart.

As the late great Tug McGraw told Mets fans in 1973, ‘Ya Gotta Believe!’

      • kingman 26 says:

Excellent TRS, and I am right there with you.

      • nyj0126 says:

I want to believe but they’re not giving us a good reason to believe right now… Some runs may prove otherwise. A Delgado walk is a good start… Let’s go Mets

  48. nyj0126 says:

The Mets have to hit tonight. Niese will do alright but he won’t do perfect. If the Mets are losing like 2-0 in the sixth, I say all of us should just go watch Brett the Jet. If you can’t hit, you don’t deserve to be in the playoffs. They better hit tonight.

Right now the Mets are on this thing where they lose 3 in a row, than win three in a row and if they lose tonight they’d three in a row. So does that mean they’d win the next three? That sure wouldn’t be good if it meant we’d be swept by the Fish lol

  49. nyj0126 says:

Sad. Walks are not an excuse for everything. Marquis ain’t even a bad hitting pitcher. Good job Johnny boy to let the Cubs start out with the top of the order next inning…

  50. SantanaCYYOung says:

can this offense score some runs???????????????

  51. WrightsRight says:

phew, good to see the cubs playing their B team.

  52. Darth Manuel says:

That inning is all on Brian Schneider.. Terrible pitch calling…. terrible..

  53. nyj0126 says:

If these Mets don’t score a run in this inning, it may just be a Cy Young performance coming from Marquis.

I can predict it too. I could have told any of you Odalis Perez would have been the early 2000’s Randy Johnson after the performance against Lannon. It’s all about getting things started.

There are so many starting pitchings who look incredible against the Mets just because they don’t walk people which can include swinging at crap pitches. Not because they’re fooling anyone.

  54. nyj0126 says:

If we lose tonight and want to get in the playoffs without playing an extra game, than the Mets have to have the same record against the Pirates. I know both these two teams will get 3 against the Cubs at home – but I’d much rather have the Pirates than the Marlins. This win is very, very important… A 3 game skid for this team is 5 or 6 too easy

  55. miker94 says:

if we don’t get a hit this inning, the game is over

  56. SantanaCYYOung says:

surprised beltran didn’t try to bunt there

  57. dazedandconfused says:

the braves just keep on bending over for these Phils!

  58. dazedandconfused says:

    stupid Beltran!!

  59. SantanaCYYOung says:

so much for we’re the team to beat, huh beltran

  60. nyj0126 says:

Gary Cohen truly is a jinx with these statistics lol He’s going to ruin Church too. Watch.

  61. Airfeet says:

i know its ridiculous but I AGREE…beltran shuld be bunting there

  62. SantanaCYYOung says:

    here comes the dp

  63. Airfeet says:

thats exactly why beltran needs to bunt…we need to scratch out runs any way we can

  64. khmustache says:

    there ya go churchy!

  65. 911nafstem says:

ugh, nomatter where you put him, you can’t hide Luis Castillo

  66. nyj0126 says:

Wait so Beltran is a very unaggressive runner… But he’ll swing a 2-0 or 3-1 pitch after loads of balls. Makes no sense.

Looks like I was wrong about Church lol

  67. dazedandconfused says:

ugh Slappy no chance for a sac fly here

  68. Airfeet says:

    CASTILLO YOU BUM

  69. nyj0126 says:

No DP’s… score a run here no matter how you do it

  70. SantanaCYYOung says:

    wow, castillo, i’m speachless

  71. khmustache says:

    crap

  72. NY Cuban says:

    REAL productive out!

  73. Airfeet says:

    CHRIST I HATE CASTILLO

  74. miker94 says:

there’s your crapillo! can’t even get the ball past the mound. all we need is a pop fly to the outfield and that turd can’t do it. pathetic!

  75. dazedandconfused says:

CASTILLO IS SO BAD!!!!!!!!!!!! HE CAN’T EVEN GET A SAC FLY!!!

  76. nyj0126 says:

    I thought Aguayo’s so aggressive…

  77. The Slider says:

So you guys still like Manuel better than Randolph? Phew. Why does he keep playing Castillo?

  78. metsfan42793 says:

CASTILLO YOU ARE THE BIGGEST PIECE OF S**T I HAVE EVER SEEN IN MY LIFE

  79. nyj0126 says:

Squash a golden opportunity Mets… Go ahead, do it.

  80. WrightsRight says:

Phils up 37-3 in the 3rd inning

  81. dazedandconfused says:

CASTILLO NEEDS TO BE RELEASED RIGHT NOW. START RAMON MARTINEZ!

  82. SantanaCYYOung says:

and that’s the only way we score there

  83. khmustache says:

YES! TAKE IT ANY WAY YOU CAN GET IT!!!

  84. Sylar says:

Can’t Ramon Martinez play 2nd??? Anyone besides Castillo or Reyes?

  85. Metfreak says:

I have no faith in this team anymore and what kills me is that they know what they have to do but they seem like they don’t care. P.S I hope I am so wrong about them

    • MetsFan4Decades says:

I can’t believe there is any way on this green earth this team doesn’t care about getting in the post season.

      • nyj0126 says:

He’s right though. We all know they care, but it’s not being shown through their emotion. Or even sometimes their physicality. Luis Castillo looks like he’s either injured or fighting the wind every time he runs.

  86. MetsFan4Decades says:

Delgado scores! All though barely. He didn’t take off too quickly did he – lol!

  87. nyj0126 says:

or don’t squash gold lol i want more than silver though

  88. Airfeet says:

THANK GOD…I HATE CASTILLO SO MUCH….HES GOOD FOR NOTHING…ID RATHER WATCH REYES GO 0-4 THAN CASTILLO GO 0-4

  89. metsfan42793 says:

WOW GOOD JOB DELGADO GOING HOME. CASTILLO UR STILL A PIECE OF S**T

  90. dykstraw says:

    castillo is just unbelievably bad

    nice heads up play delgado

  91. metsforever says:

Castillo has to be benched. He is not very good and he is a huge jinx. I know a lot of folks here don’t believe in superstition, but this is baseball and the players believe in it.

On another front, if you can’t hit with RISP, take what you can get. Thanks Jason.

  92. EV says:

Boy we caught a break there.

  93. nyj0126 says:

give me a hit here brian.. just do it

  94. The Slider says:

    Phl. 2 Atl. 0

  95. 911nafstem says:

FINALLY, a place to buy my crossbows legally

  96. nyj0126 says:

Luis is playing because he gets paid a lot of money. There’s no other way to say it. Jerry is a sell out on his own beliefs of how the game should be managed. He hasn’t played well. He hasn’t earned it. But he still gets it. Makes sense?

  97. dazedandconfused says:

When Castillo went on the DL he was only a semi-disappointment. After coming back he is a complete disappointment!

  98. Metfreak says:

You can’t put all the blame on Castillo I don’t like him either but the whole team is playing with no heart

    • therealsince86 says:

???? How the hell do you know they are playing with no heart. What a cop out for a team that does not execute. Well it’s ok because I wasn’t trying.

    • 911nafstem says:

it’s a little bizarre that the Mets got hot when Castillo was gone and then cooled off again once he was back in the lineup

  99. SantanaCYYOung says:

    1-2-3 inning here

  100. Metfreak says:

    I hate the Braves

  101. Airfeet says:

I dont understand why Manuel refuses to throw rookies like Parnell in big spots…i think ANYONE would rather see Parnell than risk it with Heilman

  102. dazedandconfused says:

CASTILLO HAS SATAN TRAPPED INSIDE HIS BODY!

    • therealsince86 says:

LOL, that actually made me laugh. He is Napolean, Hitler and Martin Luther all wrapped into one.

  103. Darth Manuel says:

wow,,, bottom of this lineup is worthless. Schneider was guessing that entire at bat. You know how you know he has no clue behind the plate.. Just look at the way he takes his at bats. He never has any clue what pitch is coming.. You would think a catcher would have a better understanding about what the pitcher is going to throw at him…

  104. nyj0126 says:

I want to see Niese get through the inning… Not Bermuda

  105. SantanaCYYOung says:

    nasty, nasty curveball

  106. Airfeet says:

Niese will eventually be a good pitcher when he figures out his control problems

  107. bringbackolerud5 says:

I have amazing news. I was lucky enough to find the transcript from Omar and Castillo’s agent from the winter.

Omar: We want to give you 4 years and 25 mil.

Agent: Seriously, Omar. What’s the offer?

Omar: 4 years and 25 mil.

Agent: Omar, I don’t have time for this. Other teams are offering 2 years and 8 mil. I have to get back to them.

    Omar: Well, let me know.

Agent: (to Castillo sitting in the room) “Oh my God, I think he’s serious.”

  108. metsforever says:

It’s a coincidence, but the Mets got screwed by the schedule. The Cubs are going to phone in the weekend against the Brewers after the Mets get Zambrano and Harden. Maybe they will only go 5 this week and the Mets can get to the bullpens.

  109. SantanaCYYOung says:

this blog has become like the mets team

the mets are the bullpen and everybody else, essentially two different parts

and this blog has been split into the optimists and the pessimists

    • miker94 says:

you can blame that on the 07′ mets. i bet before the “collapse” there were a LOT more optimists around…

  110. shiprdr19 says:

How about Cohen being very complimentary towards the Yanks? He usually doesn’t waste any opportunity to bash the Bronx Bombers. Not that that’s a bad thing.

  111. The Slider says:

    Neise is afraid of Ramirez

  112. khmustache says:

man i just wish somebody, anybody, would give their opinion on castillo…it’s incredibley interesting and riveting

  113. The Slider says:

I take that back. VEry nice curve.

  114. SantanaCYYOung says:

    big out there

  115. The Slider says:

What a gun on Jose Reyes.

  116. chogi says:

great seats for the last game on sunday. mezzanine, sec 4. make me an offer at chogi at gmail dot com.

(go niese with that nasty slurve!)

  117. MetsFan4Decades says:

OMG – trying to weed through all the same post over and over and over and over again about Castilo. I get it guys, I get it – LOL.

  118. kmistr01 says:

Lets go Los Mets!! We Believe!!

  119. dazedandconfused says:

    SCORE MORE RUNS NOW!

  120. lil pelf says:

someone needs to clarify whether neise can be used in the playoffs or not

  121. Darth Manuel says:

Keith is such a kill joy…

  122. MetsFan4Decades says:

THAT’s what I’m talking about, Jose.

  123. khmustache says:

    nice hittin jose!

  124. Airfeet says:

Nice to see Reyes get a double…but hes the fastest player in hte league and i never see him try to lay a bunt down…when hes really struggling at the plate especially…why does he never try to lay one down?

  125. zen says:

    reyes = mvp. period.

when he hits they win. and vice versa.

  126. MetsFan4Decades says:

    MURPHY !!!!!!!!!!!!
    Back in form tonight.

  127. khmustache says:

    hearts! guts!

  128. nyj0126 says:

when daniel murphy is up, you know he’ll get a hit

  129. miker94 says:

honestly, how can you NOT love that kid? he reminds me of mattingly.

  130. EV says:

    MURPHY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! AKA D-REX

  131. nyj0126 says:

i could see murphy winning mvp in a playoff series

  132. nyj0126 says:

Come on David… Alright Carlos let’s go… A big home run may be coming

  133. SantanaCYYOung says:

we need to keep this inning going

  134. therealsince86 says:

Clearly Murphy is the solution to half the post on this blog NEXT season. Trade Heilman and Castillo for Betancourt and Barfield. Then Barfield can be insurance for Murphy not being able to play 2nd.

  135. MetsFan4Decades says:

LOL – no one wants to pitch to Delgado.

    Come on, Beltran.

  136. nyj0126 says:

Just come through on him Beltran. Don’t get owned by Marquis… You can do it. A base hit up the middle please

  137. The Slider says:

    Carlos Bet-TRAN

  138. dazedandconfused says:

lol who int. walks people this early. Well they’ve already clinched so they prob don’t care

  139. SantanaCYYOung says:

    beltran is so clutch

  140. nyj0126 says:

it may have been high but you can’t look at that

  141. dazedandconfused says:

    ugh Beltran!

  142. nyj0126 says:

hold the lead and add onto it next inning now mets… come on jon

  143. SantanaCYYOung says:

the mets need at least a 6 run lead going into the 7th for them to win

  144. khmustache says:

nice inning boys…cmon jon hold the lead

  145. Metfreak says:

Man look at that curve on his nose

  146. SantanaCYYOung says:

    here goes the lead

  147. dazedandconfused says:

adios baseball. postseason baseball that is!

  148. Metfreak says:

Well I will be shocked if they get out of the inning without giving up a run

  149. khmustache says:

man derosa missed it by 6 feet

  150. bringbackolerud5 says:

Well, God forbid Wright or Beltran could have given the kid a little cushion.

  151. SantanaCYYOung says:

dosen’t is seem that reyes is one step late on all those grounders?

  152. Airfeet says:

    big trouble here

  153. SantanaCYYOung says:

start the bullpen up, he’s going to lose it this inning

  154. nyj0126 says:

the leash has to be short on niese

  155. Airfeet says:

throw a hook 3-2 here please

  156. Metfreak says:

This kid might be good one day but so far he rattles very easy

  157. dazedandconfused says:

    a lot of bullpen tonight!

  158. SantanaCYYOung says:

they got the hook timed, its over for him

  159. nyj0126 says:

maybe you dummies should have saved pelfrey for today and had him on 5 days rest so you could have had him for saturday

  160. MetsFan4Decades says:

    Damn.

  161. WrightsRight says:

    this is tough to watch…

  162. nyj0126 says:

come on… this is the point when he lost it against the brewers. one or two more base runners at tops and he has to be yanked

  163. garfios says:

He slow down when throwing the curveball

  164. dazedandconfused says:

    difference beetween mets and cubs

cubs bottom of the order produces. mets bottom of the order can’t do crap

cubs have good bullpen mets do not

the starting Rotations are similar but the cubs win cause they don’t have pedro so basically we’re screwed!

  165. garfios says:

How is Wright today, pressing? I just catching the game now

  166. Metfreak says:

Someone in the Mets dugout should hold up a sign with the numbers of games left in the season maybe then they understand its do or die time

  167. rM teM says:

    “games gettin’ excitin’!”

  168. garfios says:

    Bring Parnell

  169. nyj0126 says:

what a stupid pitch on an 0-2 count… my god

  170. Darth Manuel says:

BRIAN SCHNEIDER NEEDS TO BE TAKEN OUT OF THIS GAME!

  171. Airfeet says:

gotta stop throwing balls over the heart of hte plate with a 0-2 count…

  172. SantanaCYYOung says:

these last 10 games are an exact replica of last year at this same time, its amazing

  173. garfios says:

    No playoff!

  174. nyj0126 says:

maybe we should just close our eyes and hope for them to get out for this

  175. MetsFan4Decades says:

OMG. Left him in one batter too many….

  176. SantanaCYYOung says:

    season over

    • Wright88 says:

congrats, 100th time you’ve said that this year

      • SantanaCYYOung says:

thanks, cause it looks i’m going to be right ahole

        • therealsince86 says:

Congrats, you should celebrate. Like I said you are the offical jinx. Maybe you should try the opposite and post that they are going to do something good. Maybe then you could break the curse. Do you and Castillo go out at night and have a few beers and plot the overall demise of the Mets?

        • Hit The Weights Zeile says:

haha being right 100 times out of 100, thats pretty good.

        • Wright88 says:

I don’t believe you are right. Season isn’t over.

  177. dazedandconfused says:

    no October baseball this year!

  178. nyj0126 says:

    didnt dontrelle do this?

  179. Metfreak says:

    Game over

  180. The Slider says:

You must be freaking kidding me.

I don’t know if I can take this anymore.

  181. miker94 says:

and there is your ballgame…and the season…

  182. rM teM says:

    oh boy

  183. EV says:

YOU GOT TO BE KIDDING ME!!!!

  184. zen says:

phillies win the pennant, phillies win the pennant…

    …i don’t believe what i just saw.

  185. Airfeet says:

i feel like crying right now

  186. nyj0126 says:

it’s offical: The Mets are collapsing. The hope is being drained. This kid can’t pitch on Saturday.

  187. bringbackolerud5 says:

    Collapse Part Deux.

  188. anonymii says:

    Who didn’t see that coming?

  189. Metfreak says:

No matter how much I hate the Phillies and there fans they deserve to go to the playoffs

  190. Airfeet says:

I mean you cant even blame niese for this…you gotta blame the mets lineup for not scoring runs with pitchers like pelfrey and santana on the mound…its just unblieveable

    • metsfan42793 says:

how can you not blam neice he gave a grand slam to the pitcher. i dont care how young you are its unacceptable.

  191. nyj0126 says:

At least we kind of saw it coming… At least the Phillies earned it. I mean they are a good team. The Mets played their way out of it. Or should I say the bullpen did while everyone else did. Too bad we don’t have a good enough GM to get us a new bullpen

    • garfios says:

This is not Minaya’s fault, you got guys in the bp that are not doing their job, look at Julio, he couldn’t get an out with us, and he looks like cy young against us.

  192. Hit The Weights Zeile says:

just in time for monday night football

  193. metsfan42793 says:

HOW THE F*** DO U GIVE A GRANDSLAM TO THE PITCHER. THIS TEAM IS DONE

    • shiprdr19 says:

They already did it once this season. To an AMERICAN LEAGUE pitcher. That “kid” from Seattle, as Francesa would say. Felix Hernandez. The Mets specialize in grand slams to pitchers.

  194. dazedandconfused says:

    that is mad weird!

  195. Nate W. says:

…I was coming on to ask what the hell Manual was doing letting Niese pitch with the bases loaded… but uh… why take him out now? bases empty, no outs… whats the problem?

Manual screwed up tonight, this game is on him alone.

  196. rM teM says:

    i hate this geico kid

  197. Sylar says:

Thanks Niese, way to keep us in the game!!

Whatever can go wrong, will go wrong…

  198. bringbackolerud5 says:

You know what? FU*CK this team!!!!!!!! What a collection of GUTLESS PIECES OF GARBAGE!!!

Burn Shea to the ground. With Heilman and Schoenweis still in it.

    • Airfeet says:

can we leave Sanchez in there too?

    • darknova says:

Wow, calm down. It’s not over by a long shot. Granted, I have little faith in the offense after the first few innings, but still there’s a chance.

Of course, as I type that, Lee hits a homerun.

God. Damn. I need a beer.

  199. SantanaCYYOung says:

i wonder what positive spin therealsince86 will put on this one?

    • therealsince86 says:

      Here try this one.

  200. dazedandconfused says:

    this is actually pretty funny

  201. LIMetfan74 says:

    I give up!!!!

    SEASON OVER!!!!

  202. EV says:

Yea and this talk of Niese in the rotation next year can please stop.

    • Endys Grab says:

Yeah, we need to leave minor league prospects in the minors until they prove they’re ready, as opposed to relying on them to get us into the playoffs.

  203. The Slider says:

. . . and J.A. Happ is throwing a shutout against Atlanta tonight.

  204. dave27 says:

Can I get another pep talk about “believing” now???

    What a joke.

All I can think of is CBP when these scores are posted,

Forget the Phillies…we’ll be lucky to be in the Wild Card lead by Thursday. We’re gona cough it up to a team that went 0-7 vs. it’s primary competition this month.

    HILARIOUS.

  205. dazedandconfused says:

that basically ended the season. now we’ll have a 1 game lead in the wild card

  206. metsfan42793 says:

HOW ARE YOU GUYS BLAMING THIS ON MANUEL. IT IS THE PITCHER BATTING NOT DERREK LEE OR ALFONSO SORIANO. NO MATTER HOW OLD OR YOUNG YOU ARE YOU DONT GIVE UP A HOMERUN TO A PITCHER

  207. dykstraw says:

i feel like a moron for ever believing in this team

  208. Metfreak says:

You know now that they are choking agian they are going to have to answer the same questions all next year and we fans are going to hear it agian from both Yankee and Phillie fans

    • D-Day says:

yankees whole season was one big choke, they got nothing to say to us, but we will hear it from the sillies fans

  209. LIMetfan74 says:

To all of you who wanted to see the young guys pitch there you go. This is why you CAN NOT bring up a rookie during a pennant race!

    • dave27 says:

Just checking— didn’t Humber wear #49 last year when he sh*t the bed in a last-week start?

Now we find out how god-awful Figueroa is.

  210. Airfeet says:

THE FUNNY THING IS OUR BULLPEN RIGHT NOW WILL SHUT DOWN THE CUBS THE REST OF THE GAME…BUT OUR LINEUP WILL ONLY BE ABLE TO SCRATCH OUT A RUN OR 2 MORE

  211. Ryn05 says:

At least MNF is about to start.

  212. metsfan42793 says:

    OMG SPEECHLESS

  213. skylog says:

see you guys sometime. it can’t get worse at least, right?

  214. Dmak says:

    SEASON OVER

  215. BigPelf4prez says:

    Lets Go Chargers!

  216. MetsFan4Decades says:

HAHAHA – This is absolutely comical. Can it get any worse?

  217. dazedandconfused says:

    J-E-T-S

    JETS!!
    JETS!!
    JETS!!

  218. khmustache says:

    damn

  219. LIMetfan74 says:

    GOOD NIGHT!!!!

    F THIS TEAM!

  220. rM teM says:

….gold dust on your feet, on the sunny side of the street…”

  221. nyj0126 says:

The pressure is off for tonight, ain’t it? It’s meaningless for us to watch from this point.

Six games to go, up 1 game. Can the Mets hold it against the Brewers?

  222. rockets212 says:

well the phillies won the division unless they lose every single game including tonight’s but the good news is that the brewers are as bad as we are sowe can back ur way into the playoffs and lose to the cubs

good season cant wait until 09 hopefully well have a bullpen to protect a lead

  223. Nate W. says:

    Big time Figueroa, big time…

  224. zen says:

    batting practice.

  225. metsfan42793 says:

WHAT IS HAPPENING. WHY DOES GOD HATE THE METS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  226. The Slider says:

Fck Manuel. I want him gone along with the whole coaching staff and the entire bullpen.

  227. garfios says:

Did we really expect to win a game against the Cubbies?

  228. nyj0126 says:

Come on Brett the Jet… If the Mets are within two or three in like an hour I’ll watch.. I promise lol

  229. Airfeet says:

i HATE FIGGY JUST AS MUCH AS HEILMAN

  230. Furioso says:

    Nope….no choking going on here!

Crucial pennant race game, and the Mets start this piece of sh*t.

    And he’s going Saturday also?

I told you homers they had no shot tonight.

    Tied in WC on Wed
    1 game behind Fri
    Eliminated Sat

    2-5 homestand

Enjoy it all you “ya gotta believe” dopes.

“Gotta believe” = my team blows but they’ll win because I hope real hard!

  231. cousinrk says:

Ya Gotta Bereave. I guess Lou will pull his starters to rest them in a blowout, not to rest them for the playoffs

  232. FlightFromHouston says:

earlier today, one of the geniuses on this site said they were glad we held on to all of Neise, Evans, Murphy, F Mart instead of using them as chips to improve the bullpen … what a joke that opinion is… FIRE OMAR

  233. rM teM says:

excuse me, i’m going to put my finger down my throat now..

  234. gipper82475 says:

Fire everybody starting with Omar and ending with the ball boys.

  235. Philly Fan on Wall St. says:

Oh my goodness….look at that score…7-2 vs the Cubbies

    Choke much Mutts fans??

    BOO-YAHHH!!!!

    • Dr. Alan Lans says:

excuse me – but can your team win at least one – one – playoff game this decade before you boast? Just asking…

    • AlwaysAmazing5 says:

That is really funny coming from a Philly fan. How did the Eagles do in those NFC Championship games? Or against the Patriots in the Super Bowl? How about the Phils? One championship in 150 years? And the Sixers? Ha that’s a laugh.

    • Dr. Alan Lans says:

Philly fan on Wall Street – now that’s quite a unique combination of greed, stupidity, ignorance and incompetence – all wrapped up into one!

  236. garfios says:

We still had 6 innings to go, Marquis is not Bob Feller

  237. MetsFan4Decades says:

I’m sorry, I’m a g l a s s half full type of person but I cannot blame the Shea faithful and the boos I just heard. What do they expect?

  238. miker94 says:

funny thing is, if anyone here thinks that ANY of the games remaining this season won’t go exactly as this one has, i’d say your crazy!

  239. nyj0126 says:

No one can tell me throwing Niese tonight was intelligent. How can you not expect this? We all know Pelfrey would keep us in the game. Niese threw awesome against the Braves. Even if they figured him out a little bit, would they do this to him? This is the NL Central offense we’re talking about.

I don’t want to hear that it’s Monday morning quarterbacking because I’ve been saying this for the last 4 days. The only reason why they threw Pelfrey out there yesterday was because it was his turn in the rotation off a normal 4 days rest instead of using their brains and saying hey maybe Pelf is better off against the Cubs.

And maybe it’s smart to close out with Pelf and Johan.

Now Friday will be garbage Pedro, garbage Knight Or Niese and than our ace.

  240. zen says:

anyone see willie randolph sliding into 2nd last night before the yankee game?

  241. MetsFan4Decades says:

Where is that Doctor who posted earlier today who offered his couch to all of us? I could use him just about now – lol.

  242. metsfan42793 says:

alright lets start a rally. oh wait nvm CUZ F-ING CASTILLO UP

  243. Hit The Weights Zeile says:

the worst part about this game is the mets will end up losing by 1 run in typical too little too late fashion.

  244. EV says:

    This is just UNBELIEVEABLE!!!!

  245. D-Day says:

    RUNS! WE NEED RUNS!

  246. cousinrk says:

Hey look Kelly Johnson hits against other teams too

  247. nyj0126 says:

ok this is the point when mlb.tv service begans to lose it.. but church with a bunt hit? why not be smart when it counts? why not ever lay down a sac when we need you to?

  248. garfios says:

why did he take a strike down the middle every F$%$NG time

  249. Hit The Weights Zeile says:

well omar, as much as i dont think you should even have a job anymore you do and you have a hell of alot to do this off season.

  250. MetsFan4Decades says:

He guys – are we ‘devastated’ yet?????

  251. Mex_17 says:

    M – eltdown
    E – nsues
    T – his
    S – eptember

  252. Metfreak says:

I hope they clean house this year Starting with Omar and Jerry

  253. metsfan42793 says:

    wow castillo walks

  254. Furioso says:

    CHOKE!
    CHOKE!
    CHOKE!

    …..as usual.

I couldn’t despise these meatbags in Mets uniforms any more than I do now.

But hey. They’ll still go 2-4 after tonight!

  255. nyj0126 says:

Did the Braves actually tie the Phillies or is that a mirage?

  256. bringbackolerud5 says:

    Schneider double play coming in………..8-7-6-5-4-3-2-1…………….

  257. D-Day says:

ok hear we go, cut into the lead, get confidence and take if form them

  258. nyj0126 says:

No, they didn’t tie. It’s a loss. I didn’t see it yet. I’m not a Vegas man. I’m just a smart man. I know for a fact that it is 100% or 99.9% at worse that the Phillies win this game.

  259. rM teM says:

comeback of the year guy’s, comeback of the year

  260. dwright57 says:

i smell a double play baby

    can u

  261. Philly Fan on Wall St. says:

    Thats Right!! CHOKE CHOKE CHOKE

  262. Metfreak says:

And everybody was saying how the Cubs would not show up because they are in

  263. rM teM says:

    jeez

  264. BLUEXORANGE says:

i think brett favre can hold a lead for us

  265. bringbackolerud5 says:

wow, I did not see that coming…………….

SCHNEIDER = GO TO HELL YOU BUM

  266. EV says:

    Talk about an inning killer.

  267. i hate tommy herr says:

Goddamn it, this team is devestating to follow. I would prefer to be the Yankees at this point, at least there is no hope in the Bronx. Of course, Cubbies trot out their everyday lineup against us. Plus, the Braves roll over for the Phillies. At least the Marlins put up a fight. Only we could hand the WC back to the Brewers.

  268. garfios says:

Rally killer, why not hit and run

  269. MetsFan4Decades says:

O.K., the booth is getting to me now. We get it, Gary, Keith and Ron…..

  270. 69mets86 says:

    Well…there is always next year

  271. nyj0126 says:

For some reason the Braves do better against the Phillies away.

As for this game, unless it turns into those Nats kinds of games at Shea a couple weeks ago – it’s over. Even if we do score, can our pen hold up? No.

  272. metsfan42793 says:

it is so funny how the mets get runners on first and second with no outs and manage to get into a double play. it is just getting hilarious now

  273. Mex_17 says:

Did Ronnie really just say that Marquis is not the type of pitcher who can shut a team down for 7 innings?

  274. i hate tommy herr says:

Can Castro start a game at some point? HE CAN HIT RIGHTIES!

  275. Furioso says:

I can’t wait for next year, when I hear one of these self-righteous fan-cops opening their f**king mouth taking fans to task for booing the sh*t outta these losers

  276. rM teM says:

Hey philly’s fan, go tell your Mother her car date is here

  277. therealsince86 says:

LOL, this is hilarious. The Philly troll wants to make a post but can’t get a word in for all the Mets fans making the post he is.

  278. metsfan42793 says:

    THIS TEAM IS SO PATHETIC

  279. nyj0126 says:

the guy alec on abc is more of a man than this mens pen lol

  280. Nate W. says:

well that inning was a tease, just like this season…

  281. nyj0126 says:

    mets*

  282. Sylar says:

Schneider is 1 for 17 against Marquis. Ramon Castro has 2 HRs in 11 ABs against him.

    Why is Schneider starting??

  283. The Slider says:

Is this team obsessive-compulsive? It just repeats the same masochistic behavior over and over and over again.

  284. Airfeet says:

METS ARE THE BIGGEST CHOKE TEAM IN THE HISTORY OF SPORTS…AND IM SICK OF READING WRIGHTS POST ABOUT HOW EVERYTHING ALL EVEN NOW AND WE CAN CONTROL DESTINY BY JUST WINNING…CANT HE JUST KEEP HIS MOUTH SHUT AND JUST SAY NOTHING

  285. Furioso says:

BUT WE HAVE TO KEEP THE CORE!

WE MAY MISS THE PLAYOFFS IF WE DEAL ONE OF THEM!

  286. Darth Manuel says:

Brian Schneider has his head so far up his @SS it makes me sick. Worst game or season in most important game. Way to go guy… Jerry should take him out.

    • Nate W. says:

Its weird because we were sold on Schneiders game calling and catching skills but the past two weeks he’s made some awful pitch selections in big spots.

      • DK says:

Niese kept throwing curve balls, is that the only fkin pitch ??? I say bring in Heilman let him finish the game, maybe he will blow out his arm while giving up 30 runs.

    • Darth Manuel says:

dude can’t call a game for his life. When a pitcher has such a devastating breaking ball you don’t need to triple up on the pitch to get the desired effect. Guy calls 10 straight fastballs and get Neise in trouble. in the first few innings.. Then calls a first pitch curve to the pitcher. Right after he threw mostly curve balls to the Eighth hitter. How about curve,, fastball, curve, change.. instead of

fastball fastball fastball,,, curve curve curve,, fastball fastball fastball, fastball,…

what a big time idiot.. Know your pitching staff jerk..

  287. FlightFromHouston says:

I hope we don’t make the playoffs, b/c we’d have no prayer to do anything so what is the point? Making the playoffs would only prolong the idiocy that is Omar’s regin

  288. Dmak says:

Im burning all of my mets memorabilia, never watching another met game, and turning my future children into yankee fans. I hope there is a demonstration against this life ruining team the last days of shea… blow it up with every player in it

  289. bringbackolerud5 says:

How can you bring Omar back next year? The guy continues to put teams together that have no heart.

  290. SantanaCYYOung says:

jets are about to start, get used to not watching mets baseball for the next 6 months by starting today and switching the channel

  291. MetsFan4Decades says:

O.K. guys, I can take just about anything tonight but another 100 posts on this is all Castillo’s fault. Whether that is true or not, can we just put a moratorium on that tonight? I think we’ve beat that horse to death.

  292. FlightFromHouston says:

I can’t wait to just watch the playoffs without the mets involved so I can watch real baseball again

  293. dykstraw says:

if this team fails to make the playoffs, i am boycotting them until there is some sort of regime change

  294. The Slider says:

Maybe if this team became a bunch of coke-heads, we could recapture that glory of 1986

  295. nyj0126 says:

The Mets announcers don’t help. They really don’t. They give us every reason to not be confident. Congragulations. You win. It’s over.

  296. garfios says:

The funny thing is, they probably are going to win the last 3 games, when they mean S^%T.

  297. stickguy says:

OK. Now I think it is over.

Is it possible for a team 1 game up in the playoff chase to be officially out of it?

  298. MikeinSS says:

huh? Braves are 2-13 against Philly.

  299. SantanaCYYOung says:

I wonder what type of financial hit Matt will take if the Mets don’t make the playoffs

  300. Airfeet says:

Mets playing the worst teams in baseball = losing by 1 run…
Mets playing the best team in the NL = losing by 7 runs….

  301. D-Day says:

wow cubs have 5 good innings of mets bullpen. anyone else think there all going to start padding there season stats!

  302. zen says:

    dear mr. doubleday,

please buy back the team. thanks.

    sincerely,

    mets fans

  303. MetsFan4Decades says:

Anyone else feel like watching this game is the same as watching the last game of 2007? I watched every pitch of that game and I’m not feeling much different tonight…..

  304. Furioso says:

They’re losing because of lack of quality bullpen arms and lousy organizational depth.

BOTH attributable directly to our affirmative-action hire GM.

And don’t gimme any shine about “we depleted the farm to get Johan” because none of those guys would’ve been options either.

    HIRE BUCK FOR GM.

  305. bringbackolerud5 says:

If, excuse me, WHEN we blow it again this year, if Omar is retained, the fan base should seriously hold a rally to get him fired. What has that piece of garbage done to keep his job? He is given the highest payroll in the NL every year. And his GUTLESS teams just CHOKE and CHOKE.

  306. BLUEXORANGE says:

who would have more success , hielmann a quarterback or favre reliever

  307. skylog says:

this team will need some type of major overhaul the likes of which none of us could ever imagine. i don’t know who, or how, but for the team to just seize up again in the final 17, it clearly has gotten to them and i can’t see how it will be any better next season.

sure, toss in f-rod (doubtful) or some bullpen help (where has it been the past two seasons, again, doubtful) perhaps they can put it together, but these past two seasons will still be there.

going in, even though we all feared it, i suppose, not one of us could have ever imagined that this would play out as it has. what is happening is truly comical, flat out bizarre and could not honestly have been scripted so perfectly (not for us).

perhaps they get it together and make something happen in the next 6 games, perhaps it only gets worse, but i think the makeup of this team next season should in some respects be quite different depending on which ending the mets write for these final 6 games.

    • garfios says:

It doesn’t matter what the end is, they have to do something, and DW has to shut his mouth up, what he needs to do is what he did in past years, just hit, he has so many games in his hand that is ridiculous, by the way another run, they keep tacking.

      • skylog says:

well, i suppose i agree in that they need to do something regardless, but i think the depth and scope of “something” perhaps could be quite different if they say win the next 6, although the probability of that happening given their play of late has got to close to 0

    • Nate W. says:

      Santana, Pelfrey, Wright, and Reyes.

      Thats it, imo.

Everyone else should be changed. Everyone.

I doubt they can dump most of them in one offseason. It will likely require a three year down period to do the complete overhaul.

Good thing they signed Santana to such a long deal. Would be a shame if he was leaving just as they were getting competitive again…

  308. garfios says:

WTF, they don’t know how to turn a dp, the Cubbies don’t miss any opportunity

  309. bringbackolerud5 says:

You know what? I keep hearing the steve phillips bashing. HE GOT US TO THE PLAYOFFS TWICE AND WE MADE IT TO THE NLCS BOTH TIMES AND TO THE WS ONCE.

    THOSE TEAMS HAD HEART!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

COOK, TURK, PIAZZA, FONZIE, HAMILTON, DUNSTON, PAYTON, PRATT………………

    THEY HAD FIRE…………….

    OMAR’S CREW MAKE ME SICK

  310. DK says:

heilman + shoenweiss + schneider = end it

  311. ryankobayashi says:

I’m speechless. Just checked to see what was going on and wow! Guess I can watch something else tonight…

  312. Mex_17 says:

I’m sure 2009 will be much better in New Dodger Stadium, with another year of brilliant GM work by Omar.

  313. Furioso says:

But the core is soooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo good

    • Mex_17 says:

The Mets would never have made the playoffs in 2007 and 2008 without Reyes and Wright. Um, wait…

      • Sylar says:

Oh, yeah let’s trade both of them, that way, our team will finish in 4th place every year, setting our franchise back another 10 years, hooray!!!

This team isn’t close to contention without either of them…

  314. skylog says:

wait, which team has it locked up?
wait, which team needs to win just about every game?

ahh, i got them mixed up there for a minute.

  315. Darth Manuel says:

I seriously feel sick to my stomach.. I can’t believe this is happening again.. Worst of all Brian Schneider is to blame. Its almost like he was trying to lose this game. Unbelievable..

  316. bringbackolerud5 says:

Anyone look at the free agent list yet? What players can Omar fly to meet and have thanksgiving dinner with?

OMAR, STAY DOWN THERE!!!!!!!!! DONT COME BACK!!!!!!!!!!

  317. Furioso says:

Wow….that Sunday game is gonna feature one ugly crowd

  318. D-Day says:

i feel sick, think im going to go watch the heroes season premiere. this is physically PAINFUL

  319. Furioso says:

    5 RBI for the pitcher?

Do they never get tired of humiliating themselves?

  320. garfios says:

    Up and in

  321. WrightsRight says:

just got home to this catastrophe….what did Schneider do?

  322. D-Day says:

marquis has five f’ing rbi’s, thats unbelievable and frankly sad

  323. Furioso says:

    Omar isn’t going anywhere :(

Wilpon will never dismiss 2 blacks and 1 latino in a calendar year.

  324. garfios says:

    I told you so

  325. gipper82475 says:

    Give “O” the heave-ho!

    • therealsince86 says:

      Where have you been Gip?

      • gipper82475 says:

Busy with life, new puppy, etc. Been watching in not so-stunned silence as our beloved Mets ch-ch-choke again.

        • therealsince86 says:

Hmmm, to me Gipp if I did not know you so well it would seem as though you stayed away while things were positive and came back when things were at there worst. Again, if I did not know you better than that. ;)

        • gipper82475 says:

          Be careful about a$$uming.

Check the archives…I was here through thick and thin. Just less vocal lately due to busier life (working on a political campaign, new puppy, etc). More often, I have been watching games on DVR late night here on W Coast – which is wee hours E coast…kinda silly to comment hours after a game.

  326. bittergreen says:

The second season in a row that Mets are going to drop it in the last week. Can the current team survive after doing this two seasons in a row?

  327. The Slider says:

Hey at 9 p.m., the WWE is on.

  328. D-Day says:

should take bets on what inning jerry comes out with the white flag and asks fo rthe mercy rule casue the cubs are just teaing off on us.

    • dwright57 says:

I sorta feel bad for Jerry

When he came the manager the responded rather well…..

However, somewhere along the way the bullpen just stopped……What can he do? Hes trying to let the veteran guys do something and nothing worked

Really – I dont know if they should keep any of the bullpen guys besides smith……Cut them all

We will be lucky if we get 2 from the cubs,…….Lucky

      Doesnt look good at all

  329. WrightsRight says:

so marquis hit a grand slam? now, he might be a good-hitting pitcher but the Mets have to be the first team in MLB history to give up 2 grand slams in one season to a pitcher…right?

  330. EV says:

Seriously Omar has to go if they don’t make the playoffs which what it is looking like right now.

  331. Darth Manuel says:

If we don’t make the playoffs Jerry manuel needs to be gone.. I loved that guy but he is proving he doesn’t know how to get the most from his guys when it counts..

  332. The Slider says:

Matsoto Yoshii . . . is he available?

  333. BLUEXORANGE says:

my suit is NOT BLACK……..the mets bullpen is GOOD PAUSE NOT!!

  334. Doc85 says:

at least ticket prices are only up 79% next year…

  335. dazedandconfused says:

    YEAH BRETT FAVRE!!!!!!!!

  336. rM teM says:

    what are you talkin’ about???
he’s the GM of the year!
oh wait….or is that the manager of
    the year??

  337. garfios says:

Every one is trying to hit a GS with no one on base

  338. X-Man says:

LOL. Boy o Boy. You guys know I have been saying all along that 2007 will not happen to this team, well, I was dead wrong. It’s 2007 Part 2. Same spineless, gutless, choke artists we all witnessed last September. man It really hurts to say that. It should be painfully clear to all of us tonight that this team needs a MAJOR overhaul next year an NO ONE should be untouchable, NO ONE.

    • therealsince86 says:

How can you say the team is gutless when a rookie pitcher gave up a grandslam to a pitcher?

      • X-Man says:

I’m not referring to just that one instance Real, it’s a culmination of the way they’ve been playing down the stretch. Feels allot like 2007, doesn’t it?

        • therealsince86 says:

Yes but I will be the first to say that it’s the opposite of lack of heart. It’s the fact that they press and try TOO hard. Who knows which one of us is right but I will die thinking I am so….

    • dwright57 says:

seeing how we have blown 16 games since the break i would relax

We need to change the entire bullpen

Sorry but when your pen lets u down over and over Im sorry but its normal to feel worthless

u cant expect teams to come from behind every other night after they got a lead….It doesnt work that way

yes they can tack on runs and should score more, but we’ve seen pitching wins especially a good pen…..We dont have not one good guy in the pen….

I feel bad for delgado and them……Sorry but u should be able to hold a 2 or 3 run lead for two innings

  339. EV says:

So, this is Jerry’s Fault like last year was Willie’s fault, yet Omar gets no blame, I’m going to start calling him TEFLON OMAR

  340. The Slider says:

How about Mr. Koo? I’d rather have him than Schoeneweis.

  341. Airfeet says:

REYES SHOIULD BE SHOT FOR POPPING UP THE AMOUNT OF TIMES HES POPPED UP IN THE PAST WEEK….YOU ARE A LEADOFF HITTER!!

  342. Lets_Go_Mets says:

I’ve switched to Rangers preseason hockey on MSG. Much better! :D

  343. mr_met says:

    your beard is weird!

  344. Mex_17 says:

The sad part is that the Wilpons have already basically guaranteed Omar is back for more.

Omar will cry a river over injuries, and act like he put together a championship team and just had a little bad luck with players getting hurt.

And, oh yeah, he needs more money to buy some more ancient big name over the hill players. That will do the trick.

  345. MetsFan4Decades says:

Gary – ‘Do they have the where-with-all to chip away at this lead’?

    I’m taking bets…..

  346. garfios says:

And why do we watch this S$*T, we have to be masochist, you know something, none should go to the ball park tomorrow, just boycott this team, that is it, I’M out.

  347. Darth Manuel says:

dude is SNY adding fake cheering and audience into this game.. I hear all this noise and everytime they show the fans.. they are all dead silent with a depressed look..

  348. rM teM says:

so, the met’s will refund what I paid for playoff tickets….minus shipping?

  349. garfios says:

You can see it on their face, they are giving up, they really need a leader now. Ok now I’m out

  350. Darth Manuel says:

Hey who went to the White house two weeks ago and why? Danny Murphy and who else?

  351. miker94 says:

it’s weird because even though the mets do have some pretty good players, decent starting pitching and horrible pen, the good players have seemed to choke 2 years in a row now. therefore, it shows you that mentally they don’t have the makeup of champions. they are not mentally tough, and you can’t teach that. to have an entire team of mentally weak players, they will NEVER be winners in the end. it’s just like the military and competitive wrestling, if you are not mentally tough, you will not be a champion. whoever is to blame for this is not the issue. bottom line is that a LARGE part of this team will need to be dismantled in order for anything to change. it’s not the managers fault, it wasn’t willie’s fault just like it’s not jerry’s fault. it’s just a simple fact of competitive sports that you need winners all around you, and this team simply does not have that. oh well, i’m done here and i hope you all enjoy the rest of the game. i’ll be watching every pitch for the rest of the season, but i have ZERO faith that the new york mets will be in the playoffs. i pray that i’m wrong, but i doubt it. goodnight!

  352. stickguy says:

I guess I can look at the bright side.

This year, being at the last game of the season won’t be a crushing defeat. Just a sad farewell to the stadium and another team that bombed out missed a golden oportunity for the playoffs.

And for all the “blow up the team” guys, ain’t happening. I would be shocked if it wasn’t basiclaly the same crew, other than the pen. ANd please, please Castillo must be gone.

Hey, is 4/5 guys from the pen and Castillo being gone enough? Or who else? Now that Delgado is probably back.

  353. MetsFan4Decades says:

O.K., did you all hear Gary’s rendition about the ‘88 Mets? Coming back like three times when all thought they were dead to get into post season?

I’m delusional – holding on to the smallest thread of hope…..

  354. dazedandconfused says:

hey can anyone fire the Wilpons for hiring Omar?

  355. rM teM says:

castillo is not gone, who the hell would want him??
even if we paid his salary.

  356. WrightsRight says:

and yes, castillo is a cooler. he is a walking, talking bad luck charm. where he goes, a dark cloud follows.

    • Mex_17 says:

      “Cooler”…haha…so true!

    • garfios says:

Man the guy is gold glove, and won a ring with Fish, and went to the post season with the twins, is not his fault, is everybody fault. Oh mine, some one here just got teir wish, Beltran is out

  357. ugbmets21 says:

where is jeff WILPON. are they sitin on there a$$.

can we get a statement from the front office PLEASE!

i know it wont do anything for the team but atleast for the fans, I WANT TO KNOW WTF THEY ARE DOING/THINKING

  358. Mex_17 says:

I’m sorry, but I can’t figure out why Parnell isn’t playing a huge role in the bullpen right now.

Why even waste him in this blowout when they will probably need him tomorrow night?

After Johan, he might be their best pitcher period right now. How asinine is that?

  359. rM teM says:

so, anybody want a seat for $800.00?
    Last call.

  360. zen says:

    enough is enough.

i’m going to call my side tail.

  361. dwright57 says:

wait until u see phillies rally towel night compared to ours….

I didnt even know we had them until the 3rd….

i sware there are tons of cubs fans there too

    Prettty sad

  362. Airfeet says:

WHAT WE HONESTLY NEED TO DO THIS OFFSEASON IS TRADE BELTRAN AND FERNANDO MARTINEZ FOR MANNY AND A PROSPECT

  363. Darth Manuel says:

I am convinced Schneider is throwing these games.. Bizarre pitch calling.. I hope someone will go back and rewatch the first few innings.. Its like he was trying to get him in trouble.. bizzare bizarre stuff.. He needs to take a few games off

  364. Mex_17 says:

Two on, that means only one thing…Double play.

  365. bringbackolerud5 says:

If Brian Schneider bats this inning I will drive to Shea and punch Manuel in the face.

  366. dwright57 says:

i smell another double play here

    Oh by poor castillo

  367. Nate W. says:

The saddest part is that Marquis is trying his hardest to let the Mets back into the game. But they just dont seem interested in taking the bait.

  368. MyaGirl says:

You people are unbelievable!!! It’s raining outside, must be Castillo’s fault. The Challenger blows up… must be Castillo’s fault. Can you please get off Castillo!!!

  369. rM teM says:

slap at it you stupid ….

  370. Mex_17 says:

    LOL!!! Slappy McDeePee.

  371. dwright57 says:

Oh my god i was right

    Wow

  372. dykstraw says:

    castillo is the lineup whammy

it’s unbelievable how he is there to kill every rally

    • Endys Grab says:

the “line up whammy.” Thats good poetry. I’ve never heard that one before. Baseball is the most superstitous institution on earth. It’s weirder than voodoo.

      • dykstraw says:

i’m totally serious, i turn around (as the mets have been relegated to the small tv in the corner) and see two on no out and i get a teeny bit hopeful and then i see who’s hitting and i vomit

  373. rM teM says:

    hey lets not blame him

  374. Airfeet says:

something needs to happen after this game…someone needs to call someone out for not getting the job done..manuel needs to berak something or someone

  375. X-Man says:

Slappy strikes again!! LOL actually he hit it quite hard. Same results though we’re so use to from Castillo.

  376. dazedandconfused says:

DUMP CASTILLO AND SCHNEIDER WE DON’T NEED THEM. START CASTRO AND START MURPH AND 2ND BASE. SIGN MANNY TO BE THE LEFT FIELDER AND THEN WE CAN KICK SOME A!

  377. bringbackolerud5 says:

How do you expect to win when you have a team that features Schneider, Castillo, Heilman, Schoenweis, Niese, all playing big roles?

    • i hate tommy herr says:

Watching this on game cast. I was excited for a second when Beltran and Church got on. It was a total buzzkill to realize Castillo was on deck with Schneider in the hole. Wow, this week may get really ugly at Shea.

  378. rM teM says:

    he’s a gangsta baby!

  379. gipper82475 says:

    Thank God for the G-men.

  380. Mex_17 says:

It’s at the point now where I can’t imagine a scenario where the Mets ever score a run again.

I think DiMaggio’s 56 game hit streak will be broken before the Mets score another run.

  381. dwright57 says:

You couldnt write all this if u tried….

  382. stickguy says:

It really is all up to the WC now. IOW, can the Brewers choke enough (or out choke the Mets) to let the Mets back in?

The division is gone. I would be shocked if the Phils lost more than 2 games the rest of the way. THey are a lock for at least 3-2 after tonight. Can the Mets go 5-1 to tie them? Doubt it. And since the Phils will probably go 4-1 at least no shot.

At least the playoff is at Shea with mill.!

  383. toomanyuniforms says:

Too bad the bullpen blew another one OH WAIT!

  384. metsfan42793 says:

    THIS TEAM BLOWS!!!!!

  385. Airfeet says:

IS THERE ANY WAY TO BET MONEY ON TEAMS TO MAKE THE PLAYOFFS…I COULD GET RICH BY BETTING ON THE BREWERS

  386. Visch says:

    Its over.

Could Castillo’s play be any more despicable?

  387. stickguy says:

forget the off season. Send a message. Just cut Castillo after the game. Let anyone else play 2B.

After all, what are the odds that anyone will trade for him? SO get the pain over with.

Maybe they need a big team brawl (1 team only!) or something. A major blow up gripe session to clear the air and get focused.

  388. rM teM says:

I’m with willie Randolph here….Willie, what do you think of this team since you left?
    Randolph: HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!!

  389. dave27 says:

I really can’t worry about the Mets anymore. Watching this team has proven to me that I am psychic. I am calling every single play before it happens. I must be psychic right?

I need to write a book or something.

  390. MetsFan4Decades says:

Anyone actually care that Sanchez is now pitching?

  391. Airfeet says:

i hope hes out for the year

  392. At this point, anyone who wants Castillo starting a single game is just a stubborn idiot who will ride the OBP bandwagon, along with Luis Castillo, the Oakland A’s, and Nick Swisher into oblivion. He is clearly completely incompetent at the plate, and whether or not Argenis can hit, he can field, and doesn’t have an incredible aptitude for the GIDP.

Castillo is not the problem with this team, the bullpen is,the back end of the rotation is a close second, and the streakiness of our best hitters would probably come next, but whether Luis is THE problem or not, he is clearly A problem. He needs to go to Switzerland and fall into one of those mini black holes they’re creating.

Take 4 of the next 6, and the Brewers won’t catch you. Simple as that. Does it happen? Who the F knows at this point?

    Let’s Go Mets. Ugh.

  393. MyaGirl says:

    Please God! Beltran be OK!

  394. therealsince86 says:

Well at least Metsmad will be happy if Beltran is out.

  395. ugbmets21 says:

06 seems so far away :(

    this game is a loss.

how bad is our lineup after delgado.

i think jerry should make a statement by switching the whole damn lineup

it might look bad but whos with me????

  396. rM teM says:

    good for him.

  397. DavidDog says:

so are the castillo haters strong enough today that my mental health won’t be questioned again if i dare say he is really awful (right kingman?)? Yesterday I was reprimanded for suggesting that anyone, including marlon anderson, might be a better option at 2b; and was informed by the all-powerful therealsince86 that luis is a 5 times better hitter than argenis. you know what, i think he may actually be worse. argenis is a real bad hitter, but the mets (with the same bullpen) were winning consistently when he was in there (and he was actually often in the 2-hole!!) and yes, i too have said all along that not only is he a revolting hitter and (at this point) a well below average fielder, he also possesses that intangible “harbinger of bad vibes” quality that buried the mets last year and will bury them again this year. sit him now, for the love of god

    • kingman 26 says:

Well, David, I never reprimanded the idea of Marlon, just the idea of Argenis.

Everyone is entitled to their opinion my friend, but I just don’t get it. It’s primarily the pitching.

    • therealsince86 says:

Hey go back and read metsmad22’s post tonight overall and see which one of us you would rather agree with. LOL. It may be enough to change your mind.

      • DavidDog says:

look i am aware of your considerable knowledge of the game, certainly greater than mine, but i will not change my mind about castillo. i also think too many numbers can be blinding sometimes–the guy is declining with every at bat, he came back and instantly (like everyone expected) entered a mind-boggling slump. That, together i think with his weird aloof not-that-bright character and personal makeup, have not been a plus to this team’s clubhouse and morale… just a deflating presence.

        • therealsince86 says:

Can’t really disagree with a lot you said there. However, Awful Reyes is not the answer. Go ahead and give Murphy a start there and let someone else have a chance to blow it.

    • X-Man says:

LOL. I said the same thing yesterday. TheRealsince86 is just a realist and he doesn’t believe in stuff like “intangible”. He’s strictly by the numbers. Actually, I use him as a measuring stick to keep me level headed when ever I start to go off into deep space about Castillo! LOL. But, I also predicted two days before Castillo was due back from the DL that the Mets would revert to their losing ways as soon as Castillo came back on the team. I’m no Nostradamus, but I believe my prediction has come true as expected!

      • therealsince86 says:

Again, Xman if I could convince myself that if we benched Castillo then some how magically Pedro could pitch well, Schnieder would not hit into DP’s and the bullpen would morph into the Philly pen then I would be right there with you.
If Easley was healthy there is no doubt I would rather have him. At this point I think it may be desperate enough times to actually give Murphy a start at 2nd and put Endy in the Lineup as well.

        • X-Man says:

I knew real you would “Logically” bring up the argument of Castillo not being responsible for the other player’s lack of excution. Thanks again for your logic. I should just start calling you Mr. Spock! LOL. anyway, yes, this team really misses Easley and yes, I would also consider putting Murphy at 2nd at this point.

  398. egnirc says:

Why are there even fans in the stands after that GS debacle?
Even after wasting money to get there I would have left after that.
They are getting paid and don’t care so why should the fans?

Sunday is going to be more of a funeral than a celebration it seems.

  399. dykstraw says:

    wow

so if beltran is injured that somehow lets man age ment off the hook for this i suppose

    (i really hope he’s ok)

  400. You know what, this isn’t Willie, Castillo, Omar, Wilpon(s), the bullpen, the rotation, the lineup, the fans, or the media’s fault. It’s the f-ing Braves fault. Even when they bottom-feed, they manage to ruin my life.

    Yeah, I’m kidding, kind of.

  401. Nate W. says:

Crap, the Jets are giving up points faster than the Mets bullpen…

  402. dazedandconfused says:

DUMP CASTILLO AND SCHNEIDER WE DON’T NEED THEM. START CASTRO AND START MURPH AND 2ND BASE. SIGN MANNY TO BE THE LEFT FIELDER!!!!!!!!

  403. Mex_17 says:

After this season they can call the demolition Shea, “The Collapse – Part 3″.

  404. dykstraw says:

hey guys if you think you got it bad

    i’m also jets fan

and today is my 30th birthday

  405. The Slider says:

Phillies go up 3-2 in the bottom of the 8th.

  406. Airfeet says:

mets control their destiny…for 2 more days until they are 1 game back

  407. The Slider says:

As Metsblog aptly pointed out, the Phillies are 75-0 when leading after 8 innings.

  408. Mex_17 says:

Heilman is unhittable when the game is over. This is the perfect spot for him.

  409. rM teM says:

….the wipers on the bus go swish swish swish, swish swish swish, swish swish swish.
the wipers on the bus go swish swish swish, all around the town.

  410. BLUEXORANGE says:

i have to say. i love those commercial of like TGIMNF and Monday night beats Monday morning. but i actually think i had a better time getting up at 6 today then being awake having to watch the mets and jets lose the same night

  411. Airfeet says:

Wright Beltran and Reyes are the gayest 3 players in the league….yeah…gayer than arod

  412. garfios says:

That is a team, the Phillies

  413. methead says:

Game over. This team does not fight back down more than 3 runs after 6 innings.

    Lets get them tomorrow!! (sarcism)

  414. dazedandconfused says:

    JETS ARE LOSING TOO!!!!!!!!!

  415. garfios says:

And come september, they became the murderers row

  416. The Slider says:

Jason Marquis sticking the bats up our collective butts.

  417. rM teM says:

    a buck three eighty

  418. metsfan42793 says:

HEY DAVID WHY CANT U DO THIS WHEN WE R DOWN BY 1 OR 2

  419. Mex_17 says:

Wow, Wright is money in garbage time! Yeah! ARod Jr!

  420. Airfeet says:

you see wright really NOT want to give Reyes a hug there….he knows….good for him

  421. bringbackolerud5 says:

If AROD hits that homer, he gets ripped. Wright hits it and the people on here do cartwheels.

  422. dykstraw says:

    we need a goddamn miracle

  423. garfios says:

Some one call this game, we are going to lose by one run, if they just know how to chip away, it will be a least 8-6 now.

  424. dazedandconfused says:

    FIRE THE WILPONS!!!!!!!!

  425. metsfan42793 says:

GUYS I HAVE BETTER NEWS PAT BURREL HIT A 3 RUN HOMER

  426. That HR makes those f-ing DP’s a much bigger deal.

  427. Fiya Minaya says:

What else is there to say?

  428. Mex_17 says:

Beltran is out? Jesus…Ok, this season is done for sure.

  429. metsfan42793 says:

    what the heck?

  430. Airfeet says:

    At least hes palying hurt…

  431. metsfan42793 says:

carlos beltran is trying to pull a willis reed here but will end up grounding out to third

  432. Mex_17 says:

Who do you hate more? Heilman or Castillo? That is a really tough call.

I might have to go with Heilman.

    • therealsince86 says:

I want them both gone next season along with half the pen.

      • X-Man says:

Agree. I would say more like 2/3 of the “Pig Pen” has to go.

        • therealsince86 says:

Well the easy answer to that is that many but when you break it down it’s not as easy.

I would like to keep Parnell, Ayala, Smith, Stokes, one of Show/Feliciano,
Get rid of Sanchez (I know he will get healthy and Omar will be accused again but….), Heilman, Wagner, Show/Feliciano.
That gives you plenty of room to remold the pen.
Krod, Ayala, Stokes, Smith, Parnell, Feliciano, new LHRP.

  433. Mex_17 says:

    Nice AB by Beltran.

  434. Airfeet says:

WE NEED A 3 RUN HOMER!

  435. metsfan42793 says:

RALLY RALLY RALLY THE PITCHERS NAME IS SALLY. guys watch church will get walked and castillo will ground out

  436. dazedandconfused says:

    NEED A HOME RUN HERE!!!!!!

  437. dykstraw says:

church has been TERRIBLE since he came back and i haven’t heard a peep about him

  438. Mex_17 says:

Thanks to Omar for trading for Church and Schneider. They’ve played a big role in the Mets season.

  439. nyj0126 says:

We do need a big hit or home run here. I don’t know if I can believe in just yet though. Something tells me they’ll score 2 or 3 and still lose or actually maneuver 5 runs and lose the game.

I can honestly say the Mets are the most irresponsible team in baseball. The more careless team. The team that literally puts all of it’s strengths on one end at the cost of all of it’s weakness.

  440. WrightsRight says:

would it kill church to maybe take a pitch there?

  441. I really like Church, but he’s cold as ice right now, and facing a lefty, with a shot to position yourself to flip a horrific loss into an amazing win, you really need to see someone hit for him there.

  442. WrightsRight says:

I just don’t understand the logic of swinging at the first pitch in a situation like that. Completely beyond me. Makes zero sense.

  443. el_giacomo says:

why why why why why why why why WHY?!?!?!??!?!?!?

  444. Darth Manuel says:

if we Choke/Collapse this season its going to be much worse. We will not only Choke away the division but also the wild card and forever be know as the biggest chokers in MLB history..

  445. WrightsRight says:

Heilman cannot under any circumstances be on this team next year. Even if the Mets somehow survive this black hole of a month and make it to the postseason, for our sake and for his sake, he needs to be as far from NY as possible.

  446. nyj0126 says:

The Atlanta Braves have a disability. They can not score runs. It’s 6-4 now with 2nd and 3rd, but can’t score. Even with no outs. Just watch.

Last inning? A triple by Kelly Johnson to lead off. No one out. 3-2 game. They don’t get him in.

I guarantee they will not tie this game if they can even make it 6-5.

  447. garfios says:

And why pitch to the first batter, just tell him to take first base.

  448. metsfan42793 says:

    BRING IN ARMANDO BENITEZ!!!!!!

  449. dykstraw says:

luis castillo just left with an injury

  450. nyj0126 says:

The Braves are actually much like the Mets. Score the runs when they don’t matter. You know like the Delgado home run yesterday. Purely meaningless.

Oh wait – it’s only 6-2. No home run because of these replays.

  451. el_giacomo says:

    Phillies win. Dammit.

  452. Mex_17 says:

    I H8 U Heilman.

  453. nyj0126 says:

Anyone who tells me the Mets have heart should be looked at insanely. The Mets are a team that crunches. I just can’t believe this is all happening again. The 3 game losing streak we went through with those 2 blown saves. What about this one? Another blown save to the same team.

How typical, right? These Mets lost 6 out of their last 9 playing down to their competition magically still staying ahead in the wild card.

The Mets let down their fans. They gave their fans a reason to hope and now have let them down. I don’t want to say it’s over but it’s not fair to us what this team is not capable of doing. If the Wilpon’s were men, they’d handle the situation like men. Get rid of Omar and Jerry if we don’t get in.

  454. kingman 26 says:

Has anyone heard the stats about opposing pitchers’ grand slams—-we are the first team since the 77 Cubs to give up 2 in one year, and ALL THREE in something like the last five years have been against us!

Take away King Felix’s and/or tonight’s grand slams, and the season could be very different.

  455. nyj0126 says:

We need Johan to give us another ”critical” win tomorrow.

  456. WrightsRight says:

My favorite part of being a Mets fan is all the unique records and milestones. Giving up 2 grandslams to a pitcher in the same season is a perfect example. I mean, really. Who gives up two grand slams to a pitcher in the same season and still makes the playoffs? Giving up 2 grand slams to a pitcher represents the height of futility.

  457. bringbackolerud5 says:

We all hate them. But give the Phillies some major credit. They are a very good team. More heart in their pinky than the mets have in their entire bodies.

  458. dazedandconfused says:

the Jets defense is like the mets bullpen!

  459. Darth Manuel says:

There is no way you could keep the core players after another collapse.. They will never ever ever get over another one. You would have to trade Beltran or Reyes.. I wouldn’t even bother signing Delgado.. Just start over.

  460. nyj0126 says:

He even looks like he limps when he barely gets hit lol

  461. Airfeet says:

im gonna start rooting for the yankees…at least they have heart and can win a meaningful game (last night) when they relaly arent that talented of a team

  462. metsfan42793 says:

HEY MATT CAN U POST THE METS TRAGIC NUMBER

  463. dave27 says:

Mets were 1-8 in Atlanta, including Church’s kick to the head.

    Phillies were 9-0.

There is your season. 20 games back and yet the Braves f’d us again. Just wait for Cody Ross to drill the final nail this weekend.

  464. DavidDog says:

what happened? slappy got a hit? he cant possibly have walked, i was just gone for a second… and as i was pissing i thought c’mon slappy! start a frikken rally and shut me up

    (then never dress again)

  465. nyj0126 says:

The ghosts are haunting the Mets. Who could deny it? It’s not like we’re trying to outbeat a crappy team. Play .500 and you can do it. How is going 3-6 in their last 9 with this obvious loss going to due it?

  466. Mex_17 says:

I am a huge supporter of Manuel over Braindead Willie, but at this point of the season, I have absolutely no clue what Manuel is doing starting Schneider and Castillo. AND, pitching Heilman last night with the game on the line.

I’m sorry, show some balls Jerry, this is the fiery wreck at the end of the season, AGAIN. Do you really want to watch Schneider, Castillo, and Heilman crap away 6 months of baseball?

There’s just no excuse, he’s acting just like Braindead Willie, trusting “his guys”.

  467. nyj0126 says:

How about this? Every Met fan except not to make the playoffs. Be totally confident in the Mets crunching. That way if they do make the playoffs, we’ll honestly have a reason to believe in happiness. Otherwise, we’ll have a few extra days to get over it.

  468. bringbackolerud5 says:

WHY ARE EASLEY AND CHAVEZ NOT TAKING STRIKES? YOU ARE DOWN 4!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  469. nyj0126 says:

Jerry is just not a smart guy.

What Jerry Manuel is to Willie Randolph is what John McCain is to George W. Bush.

Someone who you may think is okay for a little while because he’s new, but as time goes on he’ll actually turn out to be plenty worse.

Than again, I don’t want to disrespect Jerry. He actually has a winning record. I can’t say the same for McCain’s voting record

    • X-Man says:

Let’s keep politics out of it, shall we. We could go on forever about the democrats voting record as well. Lets keep it to baseball.

      • nyj0126 says:

Yes. lol Okay. Baseball is somewhat political at times we can’t disagree. And yes, Democrats don’t have the best voting record either. They need a back bone. The Mets are like the Republican mind with the Democrat backbone… A bad combination I’m sure we can all agree lol

If you’re independent, I can understand where you’re coming from but if you’re Republican… You must feel as outnumbered as a Mets fan in the late 90’s to Yankee fans in this city

        • therealsince86 says:

LOL, now he is just toying with me.
Again, take down the entire thread about politics instead of leaving just one side.

  470. nyj0126 says:

rule one : weak hitters don’t swing 3-1

  471. Mex_17 says:

I want to see Castillo get picked off first.

    • X-Man says:

By a sniper’s bullets? lol just kidding, I would never wish injury to a player, even if his name happens to be castillo.

      • MetsFan4Decades says:

Thank you. Those on here wishing Castillo dead are really starting to creep me out.
I want more than anything for the Mets to do this but Jeeze….wishing someone will die for that to happen????

        • X-Man says:

they are either 12 years old or just ignorant to what’s life all about. I don’t even pay attention to them.

        • nyj0126 says:

You’re right… I don’t know how anyone can wish for that. Maybe a soar throat or a bruised knee lol Just something to keep him out the last week. Beyond that, I don’t care what happens. He doesn’t seem like he’s a bad guy though so I wish him the best outside of the game of baseball

      • nyj0126 says:

lol If Luis just twists his ankle it’ll do good for everyone. We all know he won’t be playing more than 4 years. It’ll shut him down, get him on the couch and give us a better chance to win.

  472. metsfan42793 says:

can we score atleast 1 run

  473. Andrew says:

I’m sorry, I came into this late.

    Do my eyes deceive me?

Has Jason Marquis become the second pitcher this year to hit a grand slam against the Mets?

I don’t know what’s worse, watching the Mets or the Jets.

I can’t wait for hockey season.

  474. Darth Manuel says:

Who the hell is that Willie Randolph lookalike in the dugout.. Get him out of there… I keep thinking its Willie and a bad bad dream of last season

    • kingman 26 says:

Yeah, it is creepy….I do not know for sure, but read somewhere that it is some Make-a-Wish-Foundation thing….but it could also be a minor league coach up for September…but it is creepy, that is for sure….

  475. X-Man says:

Look at it this way, it will save us the embarras*ment of getting swept in the playoffs. You see, there is a silver lining to everything.

  476. Airfeet says:

    Gary Cohen is a moron

  477. Fiya Minaya says:

Wilpon better dispatch Minaya after this disgrace.

  478. WrightsRight says:

the mets had a 3.5 game lead with 17 to go this season, right? (Or am I wrong, I can’t remember.) I think that constitues a collapse. Not on the scale of last season, but a collapse. Especially the way this team has played down the stretch.

    • X-Man says:

Actually, 4 in the loss column. That should constitute a “Mini” collapse, not the “Monumental” collapse of last year. But, all in all, two collapses in two straight years. Like I said, back up the truck. …….beep……beep…….beep.

    • SantanaCYYOung says:

yes, cause even if they had a 7 game lead like last year, they’d only be up by1

  479. The Slider says:

The guys, i.e. the Mets players, have got to take an “us against the world” attitude. I think with Johann going tomorrow, they will get a win. We just have to take this day by day. And today stunk, no doubt, but we’ll see what kind of heart they have tomorrow and the game after, etc.

    • Mex_17 says:

Sorry, but I already know exactly what kind of “heart” this team has, none.

They won’t win tomorrow, but if they do, they’ll lose whatever is necessary to blow the season.

    • MetsFan4Decades says:

I’m with you. It’s not looking good at all right now, but it’s not over – yet.

  480. SantanaCYYOung says:

i warned everybody after that 3 game winning streak that the mets had a 3 game winning streak late in the year last year and everybody thought it was going to be alright

i was killed for even mentioning it but there it is

  481. metsmad22 says:

it’s going to take a LOT to get fans excited after this year. they HAVE to make big changes. delgado should go, murph should play 1B and orlando hudson should be signed. beltran should be traded and we should trade for randy winn. sign krod.

    • X-Man says:

I would watch just to see the kids play, especially if F-mart makes the team next year.

    • Airfeet says:

      agreed completely

    • Midtown says:

I agree a lot needs to be changed, but I don’t agree with, well, ANY of your ideas.

Trade Delgado, when he’s the cheapest and probably the best first base option available? Trade Beltran, who consistently produces offensively and defensively at very high levels? Sign Krod (who ABSOLUTELY 100% will not be as good next year)? Where would you like to put Winn?

I like signing Hudson. So re-sign Delgado, sign Hudson, start Murphy in left. Then, take the money coming off from Pedro, and shore up the PITCHING, which is the sole reason we haven’t clinched a playoff spot yet.

      Yes?

      • nyj0126 says:

I agree with this somewhat. Everything except for Hudson. The Mets have to get a closer. Even if it’s not K-Rod. I’m happy with BJ Ryan or Huston Street via trade, but they’ll cost a lot of prospects. There’s not a whole lot else out there. You can make John Maine the closer, but there’s a chance we lose Ollie. I say look to acquire BJ Ryan via trade, if not go after K-Rod, Fuentes or Kerry Wood.

      • X-Man says:

The problem you’re making Midtown in your thinking is the same problem actually that most GMs make, and that is judging players strictly by the numbers and forgetting all about their make-up and toughness. Yeah, going by Beltran’s numbers and Dwright & Reyes, you’d have to be nuts to get rid of them. But like the Yankees ahave proven many times before, a team full of superstars and players with great “Individual” numbers does not guarantee anything. You need “gamers” and I’m seriously starting to doubt this team has any.

    • nyj0126 says:

If the Mets didn’t want Delgado, they could pick up his option and trade him for a decent amount. Probably B.J. Ryan plus prospects. They need him though. He proved to us he’s one of the best. Only for one more year though probably because he’s aging. Hudson is too much of a risk. Sign a second basemen to a multi-year deal who’s also injury prone? Just let the Murph play 2B or acquire someone via trade.

  482. The Slider says:

Boy, when it rains, it pours.

  483. metsfan42793 says:

    WANNA GIVE THEM ANYMORE RUNS

  484. WrightsRight says:

jeez….get an out man! at least give us a shadow of hope for a comeback.

  485. Airfeet says:

nice outing for Ayala our closer

  486. Fiya Minaya says:

Minaya should be moving washers and dryers at PC Richard with that lame schtick of his- not GMing a major market baseball team.

  487. metsfan42793 says:

2 outs bases loaded full count down by 1…………and u thought the mets would actually come back

  488. lil pelf says:

atleast i wont be able to afford a ticket to watch this crappy team next year

  489. dave27 says:

Isn’t everyone happy to know the only decent lefty specialist in the organization spent the season in Mexico? I know I am.

    I predicted a 9-8 final 5 innings ago. Here we go…

  490. The Slider says:

Ya know, in the bottom of the 9th inning of the 6th game of the 1986 World Series, I remember that sick feeling in my stomach as there was 2 outs and 2 strikes before Gary Carter go the first single which began a series of events which led to our winning the Series.

    Never Forget.

    • dave27 says:

So do I. It’s a relevant here as that sick feeling that comes with bad Thai food.

    • miker94 says:

there is a reason why that is one of the single greatest games of all time…because it almost NEVER, EVER, EVER, EVER, EVER, EVER, EVER happens…get it?

    • MetsFan4Decades says:

Oh, man, I will never forget watching that…
And oh how I would love to be having that feeling again when we won that game.

  491. metsfan42793 says:

i think keith hernandez is getting horny over marmols numbers

  492. X-Man says:

What’s really scary is that the Cubs are not playing with any intensity, they are not even trying and they still are able to make the Mets look bad anyway. A little discrepency in talent I would say. It reminds me of the 86′ Mets team when they would go out and crush teams without even trying.

  493. dave27 says:

Good luck everyone. I need to get away from this team. Let me know how it turns out.

  494. zen says:

    fire willie!

  495. nyj0126 says:

Actually let’s think about the math a little bit.

17 games to go, lose a 7 game lead.

In the Mets last 11 games, they’ve lost 6 games.

If only we were up 7 games, it’d constitute the definitive collapse. However, losing 2 1/2 with a week to go to a team with a fired manager is bad too.

  496. Darth Manuel says:

God I hope Bobby V comes back to us.. WE NEED YOU!!!

  497. MLBfan says:

I wonder if Johan is having second thoughts about signing in New York and not staying with the Twinkies

  498. metsmad22 says:

Bring back bobby v and players with HEART

    • The Slider says:

My, my, what short memories we have. Remember how Valentine lost the clubhouse to Al Leiter and John Franco, et al.?

  499. Andrew says:

So, let’s look ahead to the offseason, since we all know it’s only a matter of time until the Mets blow the wild card, and even if they get to the playoffs they’re not going anywhere with this bullpen.

Let’s open CitiField with a good team. Here’s how we throw money at the problem:

    1. Sign Manny. (Yes, it will be something like 3 years, 55 million … at least.)
    2. Sign K-Rod. (5 years, 80 million? Done deal.)
    3. Trade Heilman for someone who still thinks he has value. I’ll take a B prospect for him.
    4. Resign Perez if it’s not something overly ridiculous. (4 years, 60 mil? Deal. You wanna talk 5, 6 years? No deal.)
    5. Let Pedro walk.
    6. Sign Derek Lowe. He’s not flashy, but he’s a consistently solid middle-of-the-rotation starter, never gets hurt, and he won’t be crazy expensive.
    7. Sign Joe Beimel.
    8. Figure out if you’re willing to play Daniel Murphy at second base (yes).
    9. Let Delgado walk. Sign Teixeira. (A lot. 8 years, 160 mil? On the low side?) But if you really need to save the money, pick up Delgado’s option.

Yes, these are expensive propositions (and a lot of Dodgers, oddly). Even without Manny, who I view as optional despite listing him first here, you’re adding a buttload of money to the payroll. But how can you cheaply fix this team to win next year?

    • Mex_17 says:

God, please, no to most of that. Buying high is what Omar loves to do.

Manny is old, he can’t field at all, his best years are long gone, and he’s going to want a king’s ransom.

      No Manny!!!

    • metsmad22 says:

you can’t sign more than two type A free agents…..nice try though…..fantasy leagues are not real.

      • Andrew says:

Haha, I don’t think anyone has the chips to accomplish getting all those players in a fantasy league.

Okay, I didn’t know about the two type A free agents rule. So like I said, Manny and Texy are optional. Cut them out of it and do the rest.

    • The Slider says:

I think Manny will ask (and get) more than 3 years/$55 million – especially after what he’s done for the Dodgers. Plus, he wants to go to the Yankees to stick it to the BoSox.

I’m down with getting KRod and DLowe.

      Who’s Joe Beimel?

I like that reliever on the Stros – Joe G——-?

Texiera or Delgado, either one is fine with me. It’s the bullpen we need to address more than anything.

      • Andrew says:

Beimel is lefty reliever for the Dodgers. Notable for his low ERA, good K rate, and how he cut his hand at a New York bar and was unable to pitch in the ‘06 playoffs.

  500. metsmad22 says:

the cubs are the 2006 mets…….
the dodgers are the 2006 cards…..

the Mets are the 2007 mets.

  501. MLBfan says:

You know what’s great…and I’m an overall baseball fan
    2005 New York Mets NL E 83 79 .512 7.0 4
    2004 New York Mets NL E 71 91 .438 25.0 4
    2003 New York Mets NL E 66 95 .410 34.5 5
    2002 New York Mets NL E 75 86 .466 26.5

Yet somehow, when you go to Philadelphia, Mets fans always say that their team is so great. When in reality, your team was awful for years then the one championship in 2006 made you all think how amazing you were.

Lastly, you bashed Philly for celebrating after a 13 year playoff drought. But in 1999, when you made the playoffs, it was 13 years since your last appearance.

Mets also only have 1 championship like Philadelphia.
Philadelphia has more division titles, all of which were won 1976 and later.

The point I’m trying to make is, this franchise, nor team, was never should of had the “we’re so good, we get bored” attitude of 2006. You never were really THAT good. I mean, with the exception of 1999 and 2000, the Mets have been anything but mediocre.

    • metsmad22 says:

obviously you aren’t a baseball fan. mets have 2 WS championships……

    • skylog says:

uh, except the mets have 2 championships, in about 60+ less years

    • MetsFan4Decades says:

      Define ‘championship’.

    • therealsince86 says:

Umm, if you were a baseball fan wouldn’t you know that the Mets have more than one championship?

    • skylog says:

and uh, mets were in the playoffs in 1988……so, 1999 – 1988 =13? or is it 11?

and, not to harp, but the phillies were in 1993 and did not make it until 2007…..so, that is 13?

i won’t say anything about your argument, but at least come to the table with something that is accurate

      • MLBfan says:

the only stat i pulled out of the elias sports are the standings..the other stats with playoff appearances and championships were just things i remembered the best i could…if you are disputing my accuracy then yes I am wrong, but the point is valid in my opinion

  502. MetsFan4Decades says:

    Oh, what a tease here.

  503. metsmad22 says:

maybe wood will get hurt here lol….

  504. metsfan42793 says:

    LETS GO CASTILLO

  505. therealsince86 says:

Friggin Yankee Pinella. Why on earth would he bring in Wood with a 4 run lead and 2 outs in a game that does not matter to them?

  506. MLBfan says:

Phillies have been awful between 1990-2000, with the exception of the 93 team. Since 2001 though, the Phillies have put together winning seasons except one (2002). Never have you heard any Phillies fans or players brag about “how good” they were because they never got anywhere.

    • metsmad22 says:

how many playoff games have the phils won in that time?

    • EV says:

Dude be quiet, I’m not listening to a guy that didn’t know the Mets won 2 CHAMPIONSHIPS NOT ONE

      • MetsFan4Decades says:

LOL – exactly. Dude must be very young to completely forget about ‘69.

        • MLBfan says:

Like you guys remember every team and the amount of World Series championships they’ve won…go ahead tell me

        • therealsince86 says:

We are not on every team’s blog ripping their fans for not knowing baseball histroy.

        • MLBfan says:

I wasn’t ripping your history, I was ripping your fans attitude and swagger how about good you think your team is , when your stats prove you really aren’t

        • therealsince86 says:

Now you still can’t read. That’s what I said was that you were ripping the fans about lack of knowledge when you yourself don’t have a clue.

        • MLBfan says:

So your not a true fan than if you don’t know your teams history i guess…just like I’m not a true MLB fan because I don’t know every teams history

And no, I’m right, I used stats to back up my point about your attitude….then you fools turned it around about stats…you never disputed my point about your attitude and “how good” you are

        • MLBfan says:

And as fans of your team, you should have some knowledge about them, I mean , it’s only fitting since your a fan…unless your a fan who jumped on the bandwagon in 2006 when they won the NL East

  507. dykstraw says:

well hey at least we fought back to a save situation

  508. el_giacomo says:

slappyyyyyyyyyyyyy…..we’re goin’ to candy mountain slappyyyyyyyyyyyyy…. it’ll be an adenture! slapppyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy!

  509. MLBfan says:

I missed the one in ‘69 my mistake.

  510. The Slider says:

    Castillo? Ugh.

  511. dykstraw says:

    castillo is A JOKE

he doesn’t swing at fat pitches

  512. WrightsRight says:

castillo – what a horrible at-bat. Chances for a comeback were remote but jeez, he is just a vile, heinous baseball player.

    • dykstraw says:

i don’t want physical harm to come to him

but i would be totally ok if he was maybe moved to a secure location until the end of the mets season’

or maybe he had visa issues

      • WrightsRight says:

agree…..like maybe send him to Guantanamo. Watching this team is like being there – being waterboarded every night.

  513. metsforever says:

Ironic that Castillo is up in this situation

  514. el_giacomo says:

3 straight callled freakin strikes!??!?!? are you effin’ kidding me!!! UGH WHAT A BUM!

  515. Darth Manuel says:

How appropriate…………. If the Mets really wanted to shake things up they would Release him tonight… Goodbye Castillo…

  516. Sylar says:

That at bat should get Castillo benched.

Ramon Martinez should start. He can’t be any worse than Castillo or Reyes…

  517. MetsFan4Decades says:

    Ugly. Plain and simple.

  518. metsforever says:

He is awful. Omar’s most glaring error. It’s an embarra$$ment every time he gets to the plate. Swing the GD bat for heaven’s sake.

  519. LL says:

What a freaking hole in the lineup is the 7 spot. Castillo is worthless, absolute garbage. Afraid to swing every single time. What a waste of space this guy is. Unreal, unbelievable!!!

  520. Furioso says:

    All according to plan.

Mon: Lead down to 1 game
    Wed: Tied w/ Brews
    Fri: Behind the Brews
    Sat: Eliminated
    Sun: Unmercifully booed

    2-5 final homestand

    • Mex_17 says:

Actually, won’t they be behind MIL after Wednesday night’s loss? You think it will take until Friday?

    • nyj0126 says:

If you’re right, I give you credit. If you’re wrong, all of us will rub it in your face. I think we can do better than 2-5. I still think we can finish up .500 in the last six. Put these last 9 games behind us. Worry about the next six. Know that the Brewers take on the Cubs in 3 out of 4. Know that the Marlins have to pick up 2 in the next 3 just for the games to count for them.

We’d rather be up a game than be down one. It’s still not over. We can still do it. The perfect person is on the mound tomorrow. It’s not like the last time when we couldn’t even score runs off Lannon and Perez. We can score. Johan can pitch. Pitch deep into the game. And we’ll win. And Ollie will throw a big game. Thursday and Saturday are the crunch games.

      • nyj0126 says:

Maybe all of us don’t even see past all the drama?

Think about it. We could have Johan on the last game of the regular season. That’s much better than 1/3 of inning Tommy Glavine.

Than who’d get the ball on a one-day playoff series against the Brewers? The guy who’s awesome against all the awesome teams. Ollie.

  521. Darth Manuel says:

Bobby Valetine clap clap clap clap clap

  522. Furioso says:

So, which of the core players is getting shipped out when the next GM gives the team a radical makeover? I’d prefer Wright but I’d bet it’s Beltran

    • LL says:

You’re sick furioso. That isn’t happening. Our problem isn’t the offense or defense. It’s the freaking bullpen. Our core guys have nothing to do with our losing. Get it through your thick heads people. This core group of guys here are outstanding. We are losing because of the bullpen, gosh!

      • nyj0126 says:

The bullpen + Pedro Martinez. Can’t forget about him. And he wants to join them – how bad is that?

It’s all about complementing the core. Just think about if the Mets had won half of the games they had blown. We’d be up near 100. Better then the Cubs and Angels. Even with a mediocre closer. Maybe we could have used Billy after all. He provided a statistic even if not clutch.

    • MetsFan4Decades says:

You are just so completely crazy, dude…..

      • LL says:

        Who’s crazy, me or furioso?

      • Mex_17 says:

Why is this crazy? What the hell have Wright or Reyes ever won here? Nothing. Wright talks a lot, then is the Invisible Man down the stretch. Reyes too.

And keep in mind that we are not talking about cutting Wright, but trading him. For an “elite” player like Wright, a good GM should be able to get a HUGE haul of talent back. Talent that wouldn’t turn into ARod Jr in the clutch.

Think Herschel Walker trade, not Kazmir trade.

The Red Sox dealt Manny and their winning PCT went up. So how can you think that Wright is too precious to trade.

    • nyj0126 says:

We’re not trading the core. Why would we? So all of you can be crying Scott Kazmir all over again? Do you guys want to go back to the days of Mike Piazza playing 1st base and Obner Moreno setting up our saves? lol Actually, that might sound better than what we got now. These Mets got a solid core. Just complement the core.

Get a real bullpen. Start from scratch. Even if it means trading Parnell or someone who we may need. We need a pen.

  523. LL says:

I can’t stand you Castillo, go eat a fat one!!!

  524. therealsince86 says:

Ok, I am done with Castillo as well. Go out and do something drastic like starting Murphy at 2nd.
    Reyes
    Murphy
    Wright
    Delgado
    Beltran
    Church
    Evans
    Castro

This has to be the lineup. Who cares if Murphy MAY not be able to turn the DP. At least he is not Castillo or Awful Reyes.

That being said having to depend on a rookie pitcher cost us this game.

    • metsmad22 says:

nah just like a republican to have the wrong idea, but then jump ship when finally you realize you are wrong…..

      • MetsFan4Decades says:

        and you know everything.

      • nyj0126 says:

all the democrat and republican analogies… lol it’s only a couple months away so i guess it’s only natural.

if the mets don’t do it, than i’ll root for the rays in the playoffs. than pretend baseball doesn’t exist – even though i can’t for a few months. and than give myself false hope against in march. isn’t that what red sox fans did for a century?

      • therealsince86 says:

Hey as long as I disagree with you I will vote for Stalin Obama.

      • therealsince86 says:

Ugg, not to mention the fact that I have said all along that Castillo is not very good anymore. Just better than Awful Reyes.
Why am I arguing with a guy that is up past his bedtime?

    • stickguy says:

      works for me!

      desperate times, desperate measures.

  525. zen says:

castillo will sign a 2-year extension this off-season.

  526. rM teM says:

since the next game is so important, can we find a rookie with zero experience to lead us to the playoffs?

  527. stickguy says:

just cut Castillo. Tonight. Just do it.

  528. nyj0126 says:

All of us need to be as rational as possible. I doubt Ramon Martinez is starting, I doubt one-sixth of the Dodgers roster are on the 2009 Mets and I doubt the Mets bullpen ever becomes adequate.

At this point, if the Mets win the wild card and even lose by 10 in 3 straight games to the Cubs in the playoffs – I’d be happy. Just so it’s not a collapse. Just so we have some damn dignity.

    • Furioso says:

You know you won’t even get that from this team, don’t you?

      That’s ok……fans can pay back.

I don’t want anyone- other fans or radio hosts or announcers or medic hacks- never again do I want to hear anyone give me this “don’t boo them, don’t be so negative, go to the stadium and support the team” rah-rah bullshyt.

This is the kind of 2-year period that loses a generation of fans.

      • MetsFan4Decades says:

Sorry, I disagree. I’m not bailing out. I’ll watch until the bitter end, I’ll be back next year.
I don’t like it one damn bit but I’m not going anywhere.

      • nyj0126 says:

You’re right… It’s been heart breaking. They’ve lost a generation of baseball fans period who can’t handle the stress lol It’s like Syracuse losing 20 percent of it’s population in like seven years… They must have been Mets fans.

I remember someone saying something about the growing Mets fan base. Maybe they’d grow some more with the Yankees playing pitifully if they actually took care of business…

The Mets are living off the 2006 image… Take that season away and I guarantee they’d be in the playoffs these last two years because they’d be hungry.

  529. LL says:

Castillo, man up and tell Jerry you have an injury or your sick or your wife is having a baby and you have to take off. Just get out of here, you stink and you know it. Stop bringing the team down you freaking cancer!!!!!

  530. Clutch says:

he took 3 straight strikes??….what a beotch!!..kill yourself Castillo..go back to yer country

  531. LL says:

Castillo, head back to the DR you sorry bitsch!!! and go eat a fat one you sorry piece of shiite

  532. koosman says:

In his post game comments Jerry Manuel looks and sounds like someone whose brain has been devoured by zombies. ‘I feel pretty confident we can still do it,’ he said. He knows he’s finished as is the team. It sounded about as convincing as when Willie used to say the same thing.

  533. dazedandconfused says:

Castillo is not even trying anymore!

  534. skylog says:

don’t worry fellas, they are all good. three more against the cubbies then three against the marlins who really have no desire to beat the mets, right?

on the flipside, the brewers have three against the pirates and then three against the cubs who by then will be in total playoff mode.

    solid.

must be nice to go 9-1 in you last 10 games

  535. EV says:

Only the Mets with a real chance to bury the Brewers tonight by putting them 2 back with 6 to play, can play like this. I don’t want to hear how bad the Brewers are playing because last time I checked we split with the freaking nats and lost 2 out of 3 to the braves, for a 3-4 road trip.

  536. nyj0126 says:

None of us should bail out. All of us should look at our TV’s or these Mets in person and be as confident as we possibly can be. We’ve made it too far. If we were told be up one game in the Wild Card before the season, we’d probably take it. I know we would on June 17th.

So let’s do it. Forget about last season. Forget about these last 9 games. Forget about everything except for how great these next 6 can be. We’ve seen the Mets come back. The last 3 game losing streak they endured led to a 3 game winning streak. We know they can do it. They just have to hold up for more than 3 this time. Than again, 3 may be all necessary to beat the Brew Crew.

    • LL says:

Wishful thinking brother…the brew crew is playing the Pirates for the next 3. We just have to worry about winning our games. Have to get it together for this last 6 and get in. We just need to get in.

  537. nyj0126 says:

We’re playing about as bad as the Brewers. Not better or worse. Who cares though? Does that mean anything in these last 6? We got 3 against the Cubs at home. They do to. It’s fair game, isn’t it? They have three against the Pirates and we got three against the Marlins, but we’re up one.

It comes down to these final six games. I’ve happier we’re butting heads with the Brewers and not the Phillies, but we can’t expect these Brewers to be any less because anyone can rise to the moment at this point. We have Johan going two more times this season. Trust me, it’ll mean the world.

  538. nyj0126 says:

Is the only way the Mets can get over the ghosts of September 2007 to contract as a franchise? Or move to Oklahoma City? lol

  539. nyj0126 says:

Ughhh… some way, some how… we’ll get there. i just don’t know how. i keep telling myself that everything and may have to until september 28th.

  540. JohnsAmANIAC says:

Guys we need johan tomorrow that we got him for hes our stopper

  541. freubr01 says:

I have to say I am impressed at the positive vibes tonight…however, we are customers and the company producing this putrid product need to be punished if they do not make the playoffs and don’t go out and rebuild…we all spend too much money and time and emotions for this team to pi$$ it all away

  542. freubr01 says:

and another thing…where did that DBag MLBfan go…I was enjoying him making a fool of himself…

  543. miker94 says:

    i couldn’t agree more…

  544. Sylar says:

    Your a moron.

  545. khmustache says:

    wow

  546. kingman 26 says:

Nah, it is a nonissue and a coincidence and a silly thing to harp on, and in addition, A Reyes is horrible.

    Thanks Sylar.

  547. Sylar says:

You blame him for EVERYTHING that goes wrong with this team. Do you realize how irrational that is??

Oh, and btw, Reyes was excellent in May and June with Castillo, how do you explain that???

  548. kingman 26 says:

Thanks AGAIN Sylar for the points about May and June.

I think the anti-Castillo stuff borders on a mental health issue, it is so overstated and ridiculous.

YES Slappy is done and his contract is horrid, but with Easley hurt, he is the only option.

Jerry shouldn’t use Heilman but he should let A Reyes go 0-for-4 every night?

And he is NOT a gold glover either.

  549. kingman 26 says:

No, suggesting playing A Reyes is incredibly silly.

Slappy stinks, but he gets on base, and despite diminshed range, he still plays a fine second base.

I guess we agree to disagree.

  550. kingman 26 says:

I understand the point, but I just think there is no cause and effect here. A Reyes has the better record, and I have NOT researched it, but perhaps A Reyes was playing all of Santana’s and Pelfrey’s games his first month, when those two did not lose a game?

If so, your point is absolutely meaningless.

  551. kingman 26 says:

OK, let’s both root for the Mets and agree to disagree….and if I swear that I do root for Argenis to hit a homer every time up I hope you do the same for Slappy McMediocre.

  552. therealsince86 says:

Or the fact that he hit the innings wall just like every other young pitcher. We will see next year.

  553. kingman 26 says:

No, of course not, but we don’t have any other options, man.

A Reyes would have struck out most likely, or hit an equally weak grounder…at least there is hope that Slappy might walk at some point tonight, which is impossible with Argenis the Anemic.

  554. SantanaCYYOung says:

they know it, what they’re saying is that there is nobody better right now.

but i can’t see how anybody else cannot be better offensively than him.

  555. therealsince86 says:

Why are you making this entire blog about a crappy 2nd baseman with even crappier replacements on the bench? It does not matter, Castillo is going to get the starts. Just shut up and move on.

  556. Sylar says:

Yes, I’m happy, we got the tying run in.

Am I happy Castillo didn’t get him in?? No… but I doubt the almight Argenis Reyes would’ve either…

  557. kingman 26 says:

Not having a real second baseman is indeed the problem.

NO ONE is pro-Slappy, some of us are just ANTI-ARGENIS.

  558. therealsince86 says:

Until you realize that Awful Reyes OBP is .200.

  559. therealsince86 says:

Uhmmm 150 points is not slightly higher.

  560. miker94 says:

i’m with you man, crapillo = losing, it’s plain and simple. the guy is a born loser and should never be allowed on a baseball field for the new york mets.

  561. The Slider says:

    Hiding in their closets.

  562. kingman 26 says:

I am still here Metsmad22, and not wishing death on a Met like your weak mind.

I never said Castillo must play, just that he must play OVER Argenis.

And the difference in their OBP is anything but slight.

  563. Sylar says:

So you want him to die, and go to hell???

What the f**k is wrong with you, you warped little moron??

  564. therealsince86 says:

Hey there is no proof that Napolean or Martin Luther
( I would hope not) went to hell. LOL.

Might as well have some fun with this Sylar, it’s not like they know any better.

  565. kingman 26 says:

Wow, Metsmad22 now I feel really stupid for debating you….what a ridiculous and inappropriate comment, like the folks calling for Heilman to commit suicide last night.

  566. therealsince86 says:

Hey maybe he means in the history books as great leaders that changed the history of man for good or bad?

  567. kingman 26 says:

    Haha!! Slappy McMegalomaniacalTyrant!!

  568. therealsince86 says:

I personally think that the bullpen=losing but why not blame it on the crappy 2nd baseman if you want.

  569. Sylar says:

Again, there are 25 players on a team, not one, and I really doubt two below average 2nd baseman had much difference to do with either of the records.

  570. Sylar says:

    Wow, how funny, HAHA!

    (Not)

I’m done with you. At first, this little debate was entertaining, but now it’s clear you have a deep seated hatred for Castillo that goes beyond baseball, and no amount of logic or reason will change that.

So f off, you demented little freak.

  571. therealsince86 says:

I have not been hidding. I have been here all night. I just chose not to make this entire blog about one crappy 2nd baseman over another really crappy Awful one.

  572. khmustache says:

dude does have a shovel face

  573. SantanaCYYOung says:

its not hard to see it coming if you have ANY baseball knowledge

  574. therealsince86 says:

You as much as anyone should know that the Mets follow no logic.

  575. The Slider says:

Don’t blame that on Schneider. That was all Neise. But that’s what happens when you have to count on a AA player to help get you into the playoffs.

  576. rockets212 says:

couldnt have said it better myself

  577. Endys Grab says:

    Word.

  578. anonymii says:

I’ve been thinking how bad it would be if he hit the first home run in Citi Field. May as well tear it down and build a new one.

  579. Sylar says:

LUIS CASTILLO IS NOT THE ONLY PROBLEM WITH THIS TEAM YOU F–KIN MORON!!!

THE BULLPEN IS TERRIBLE, THE OFFENSE IS INCONSISTENT, AND ASIDE FROM SANTANA, PELFREY, AND PEREZ, OUR STARTERS BLOW!!!

IS CASTILLO THE BRINGER OF ALL DOOM???

    F–K

  580. therealsince86 says:

Wow, you are incredibly brave for a blog aren’t you. LOL.

  581. therealsince86 says:

Drop it Sylar, he has his scapegoat. Actually pretty fitting that a troll would have a goat.

  582. kingman 26 says:

    Who plays center field?

  583. EV says:

    Amen to that !!!!!!!!!

  584. Mex_17 says:

    I prefer the term “@ss-hat”. Or a compromise “@ss-clown”.

  585. therealsince86 says:

Awful Reyes of course. It does not matter, Beltran is a curse/

  586. therealsince86 says:

Again, how would a post like this make you any different from the post the Philly troll is trying to make?

  587. Sylar says:

So your saying the Mets win the division if Castillo didn’t come back? Is it really that simple??

  588. SantanaCYYOung says:

what are you the blogging police? let people speak there peace.

  589. dazedandconfused says:

Well first of all im not making fun of mets fans. If thats a start? I am extremely ticked off with this team and their inability to get anything done with the highest payroll in the NL

  590. FlightFromHouston says:

why doesn’t he come on screen and shmooze with Gary?

  591. therealsince86 says:

Yes. According to their logic ALL the Mets need to do this offseason is trade Heilman, release Castillo start Awful Reyes, and the Mets will win 116 games.

  592. therealsince86 says:

Did I say he could not say it? I ask him a question. The only one telling people what to post or who should post is you.

  593. nyj0126 says:

I don’t think it’s fair to have posts deleted without a reason why, but I guess I can understand the reason. We should keep politics as much out of it as possible, even if it is awkwardly less intense than our anxiety with the Mets.

  594. EV says:

No SCREW YOU and your team that hasn’t done a DAMN THING since 1969!!!!!!

  595. Midtown says:

I’d love to know what the logic is there. Okay, so they haven’t won it all since 69. So? Does that mean we shouldn’t root for them? What does it matter when they last won?

  596. MetsFan4Decades says:

Well take it to the media then. Just stop clogging up this post with the same thing over and over and over again.
And whether or not it’s true, and I refuse to get involved in this debate, WE ALL GET IT.

You post something, a Castillo supporter post his same support, you non Castillo supporters post the same thing again, Castillo supporters post their same thoughts again. It’s a dead horse that’s just making my head hurt – lol.

  597. Sylar says:

    So when’s your Klan meeting???

  598. DK says:

right and the cubs are not hired guns, do you have any clue?

  599. therealsince86 says:

If I feel like saying that I go scream outside instead of actually taking the time to type it on a Mets blog but to each his own.

  600. garfios says:

Yeah, that is what we need, and Carl Everett for good measure

  601. DK says:

true because the franchise face at 3rd is not white?
    your ignorance is pathetic.

  602. therealsince86 says:

More great cause an effect from a moron. Hmm, I am guessing based on your ablitity to compute relation you scored a -2 on your SAT.

  603. therealsince86 says:

    Is Vince Coleman still available?

  604. therealsince86 says:

Lets not turn this into political garbage. Because then it could be said that the Mets are choking like a Democrat in September.

  605. Mex_17 says:

Who is this “Omar”? I’ve haven’t seen him around…

  606. therealsince86 says:

Or maybe the tree in your back yard during your Klan meeting.

  607. Mex_17 says:

Well, he’s signed through 2011. Enjoy!

  608. garfios says:

Man is everybody, not Castillos only, every one of them.

  609. dazedandconfused says:

    um no……

  610. kingman 26 says:

Damon and a prospect for Beltran??

Now I feel even dumber for debating you, as your baseball knwoledge barely exists.

  611. X-Man says:

LOL. Good analogy real!! So true. LOL

  612. gipper82475 says:

Best comment by TRS86 in two years.

  613. X-Man says:

Best way? No Body shows up at Shea or Citi Field. best way is to hit them in the wallet.

  614. dazedandconfused says:

go in front of their house and put a giant sign on their door!!!!!!

  615. therealsince86 says:

LOL even you know how crazy this guy is. If you want to trade Beltran then it needs to be for Holliday and Atkins.

  616. MetsFan4Decades says:

You are correct, seeming as they won 100 games that season. I had to have heard that whole thing wrong b/c I doubt Gary could be that far off….

    Anyone else hear that?

  617. Sylar says:

It’s a TEAM game. He is not singelhandedly contributing to every loss, nor is he making the bullpen blow leads, or telling Niese to give up a GS to a pitcher.

Regardless… so what?? You don’t like a baseball player, and that somehow justifies you wishing he would die??

    How old are you, 10?

  618. therealsince86 says:

Why are you letting yourself get so bent out of shape on an obvious retard?

  619. X-Man says:

    Agree!!

  620. therealsince86 says:

Thanks gip and Xman. I think I would be better off posting on a political blog. My team has a history of pulling it out there.

  621. therealsince86 says:

    June of 2007?

  622. MetsFan4Decades says:

Why are you yelling at all of us?

  623. bringbackolerud5 says:

You simply cannot make this up anymore

  624. EV says:

We don’t agree on football teams, and I owe you one: SCREW YOU LOSER!!! But I agree with you on Omar.

  625. therealsince86 says:

Can you guys please stop yelling?

  626. MetsFan4Decades says:

What the hell are you talking about?

  627. Sylar says:

Your right, GG CF who hit .280, 25 HRs, and drive in 100 runs every year stink.

How does it feel to be the stupidest poster on this entire blog???

  628. dominicanboy08 says:

go back to beerleaguer, you are not a mets fan

  629. MetsFan4Decades says:

And what the hell are you talking about? Beltran hasn’t been out all year.

  630. therealsince86 says:

How is this a curse? You just said that it was a good thing that Beltran got injured.
How do you ever expect anyone to take you seriously. Speaking of a jinx, I don’t remember you ever being on here until we started losing games. Maybe you are the curse?

  631. therealsince86 says:

And you of all people deserve this.

  632. DavidDog says:

i dont see how beltran has anything to do with this

  633. Sylar says:

    He’s not a Met???

Then who was the guy playing CF for the last four years who looked exactly like him??

  634. therealsince86 says:

Oh so you have been so much of a tool that you have been banned many times? Hmmm. So when the going gets tough you just turn into more of an idiot?

  635. Mex_17 says:

Hard to imagine rooting for a team who wins when it matters.

  636. MetsFan4Decades says:

You are just the ultimate sore loser. Why are you even here? Why do you even watch? If I was as miserable as you are, I would find something else to do….

  637. Nate W. says:

just wait, someone will say something stupider…

  638. Airfeet says:

    hahaha

  639. kingman 26 says:

“Guess what, everyone uses this site to post, no one cares what you have to write okay so just SHUT UP.”

My friend, go to the nearest mirror and recite this IN ALL CAPS to yourself.

  640. Mex_17 says:

Jeez, don’t blame Matt for this bunch of losers.

I want to see the Mets’ tragic number up there now.

  641. Sylar says:

You read this blog, so you obviously cares about he writes, moron.

It’s amazing how stupid this blog has become…..

  642. MetsFan4Decades says:

You do realize without Matt putting up this blog and putting up threads you wouldn’t have a place to go on a rant, right?????

And don’t lump me in here with your no one cares what Matt has to say crap.

  643. therealsince86 says:

After reading his post there is no doubt he will come up with something more stupid.

  644. kingman 26 says:

Hitting a 2-run homer prompts this post?

  645. Sylar says:

Do you think before you speak??

  646. dazedandconfused says:

hey Kingman can’t you ever be nice to anyone?

  647. dazedandconfused says:

hitting it at the most useless time!

  648. kingman 26 says:

Umm, yes…have you read Metsmad22’s posts tonight? Racism, wishing death on players, and general mean silliness….check them out and check mine out and you may re-evaluate your opinion.

  649. X-Man says:

    Ummm, Castillo? LOL

  650. therealsince86 says:

    The Mets? Your life?

  651. Darth Manuel says:

IMO if we Choke/Collapse this season its going to be much worse. We will not only Choke away the division but also the wild card and forever be know as the biggest chokers in MLB history..

  652. kingman 26 says:

Hey Dazed, can’t you be nice to anyone??

  653. dazedandconfused says:

well you’re basically mean to everyone in the thread im just pointing out the obvious

  654. kingman 26 says:

No not really…sometimes maybe because I really love the team, the uniform and the history, and when folks make racist and violent comments, I take offense. And I don’t get blaming Castillo for bad pitching.

But I often compliment folks on opinions, ideas, and even good names…..and I often admit when someone else’s opinion is better than mine, as I would rather know the truth than win an argument.

But I do appreciate your opinion as well, I really do.

  655. garfios says:

    LOL

  656. garfios says:

He’s tipping the curveball, he slowdown his delivery when throwing it

  657. metsfan42793 says:

the luis castillo on the chargers

  658. nyj0126 says:

Another dude Omar gave 2 years… It was the only way to retain him, but he has turned into one of the worse players in baseball. There won’t be any room for him.

The Mets bench next year should be as followed:

Ramon Castro, Argenis Reyes, Damion Easley (if he wants to come back), Endy Chavez, Nick Evans (possible platoon with Murph in LF) and I’m sure Angel Pagan will work his way in there.

  659. therealsince86 says:

Agreed cut that 1.25 million for next year as a loss. No room for him anymore with Murphy.

  660. nyj0126 says:

I’d actually rather see Murphy playing 2B if he has the ability and than maybe the Mets will platoon Evans and Pagan. Or sign a FA.

  661. therealsince86 says:

If Awful Reyes is on this team next season then Omar should be fired. How hard is it to find someone better for the bench than he is?

  662. therealsince86 says:

Actually I could see Murphy and a backup guy like Barfield at 2nd. Tatis and Evans in LF until Fmart is ready and spend money on Krod, Ollie, and Lowe. That would be a great offseason.

  663. wrightstuff08 says:

I agree that resigning Ollie and adding Derek Lowe would make a top notch rotation. I doubt Krod is coming our way though…..he is too costly for the Mets.

  664. Sylar says:

Because it’s a better way to depict the standings at this point in the season???

And if he’s a “tool box”, why are you reading his blog?

  665. Sylar says:

Reyes is hitting .300 right now, and he hit over .300 in May and June

  666. SantanaCYYOung says:

phills will clinch by end of wednesday

  667. therealsince86 says:

Are you refering to us or the Mets?

  668. kingman 26 says:

    OK, point taken.

  669. metsfan42793 says:

    ill take them

  670. Mex_17 says:

    No thanks.

  671. nyj0126 says:

Relax… lol I said I wouldn’t let it go too far. Come on. I got to alleviate my mind from some pain with the Mets. I even get it dished being at being a Jets fan. It’s not even being a Democrat because there’s lots of flaws in the party, but I’m just anti-Republican lol I’m against seeing innocent babies, women and American soldiers killed for no reason… Sorry for that.

As for baseball, we got six games boys. I hope we win this wild card… Anyone can be better than these Mets or Jets now though

  672. therealsince86 says:

Why don’t we the fans carry many of the same similarities?

  673. nyj0126 says:

Okay let’s just stop lol No more Endy Chavez rule one for 3-1. Just no politics.

  674. Darth Manuel says:

Yes we will,, In every stretch run for the next 100 years they will reference the heartless 07/08 Mets.. It doesn’t get much worse than this…

Glad that Mets fan who killed his parents over a mets loss is already in jail.. The entire city would be in trouble

  675. Central NJ Mets fan says:

This team makes me sick. I can’t belive they’re doing it to us again. Collapse 2008! Hopefully they’ll win tomorrow but what about the following 2 games. Will we get the good Ollie or the bad Ollie. And I really don’t trust Pedro. Milwaukee will probably beat the Pirates, at least 2 out of 3. With all Milwaukee has been through, after tonight they’ll only be 1 game out of the wild card. They must feel pretty good.

  676. nyj0126 says:

Is this actually a true story?

  677. The Slider says:

    It was too magical.

  678. nyj0126 says:

Yes, that was kind of weird lol I have to say it was impressively quick though. The people who work on this site actually do watch that. A lot of it is probably computerized, but I can see why they don’t like politics on here. Not that it’s controversial, but just irrelevant. Mets fans have enough stress on their minds.
