Health: Beltran’s Bruised Knee
By Matthew Cerrone - Sep 23, 2008 6:49 am

Carlos Beltran suffered a bruised left knee after running into the wall while making a catch during the seventh inning last night.

Manuel on Beltran:

“We had one report that his knee had kind of swollen a bit…He went down, they took a look at him, the trainer came back and said he’s done, but he said, ‘No, I’m not done, I want to play, I want to hit.’”

Beltran remained in the game, and, according to Manuel, will most likely be in Tuesday’s starting lineup.

How anyone can continue to question a guy who played with a broken bone in his face, and played on two bad knees the final 50 games last year is beyond me.

Oh wait. I know exactly why people question him, and it has nothing to do with percentages.

what a player….that’s the way to be Carlos! We need your help!

There’s no other player I’d rather have in center field

Man, what a softie that Beltran is! Let’s just call him “Mr. Sofitie!”….way too soft for New York! He’s no Melky Cabrera, i’ll tell you that!

And he got a hit that at-bat, too.

what I love about this thread, is that none of the cowardly people who call Beltran soft, or overpaid ..etc etc will make an appearance…and if they do, they are just reading…not commenting

I can sometimes understand why Beltran gets a bit of grief from fans because he can have some frustrating stretches but the truth is, as someone else put it above me, there is no better player in center field.

What a great moment last night, when Easley was walking toward the batter’s box, then we looked up again and he was gone, and then Beltran emerged from the dugout. Lots of cheers. And then he singles. It was great.

It’s a damn shame Church ruined the moment a few pitches later.

  11. I was in the mezzanine so I couldn’t really see what was hurting him. It was terrifying. Seeing him get up and also take another at bat was uplifting, even in a loss.

he may beg out of tonite’s game

Him just coming out to bat was uplifting, the hit even more so.

Its a shame the pen couldnt hold the game where it was because Marquis was really trying to start a rally every inning and the game would have been there for the taking.

I guess 6 IP and 3 runs from the pen is about as good as it could be though. 4.50 ERA is better than they have been doing.

And then there is Scneider and Castillo (both of whom shouldnt have been in the game to begin with) grounding into double plays all night.

No wonder the Mets have no come from behind wins over more than three runs. They can never catch what the pen is giving up.

Carlos Beltran is officially The Man. If you don’t want him in center field for this team, then I don’t know who will make you happy out there. That’s your problem, not mine, not the Mets, and certainly not Carlos’.
