Health: Beltran’s Bruised Knee

by Matthew Cerrone

Carlos Beltran suffered a bruised left knee after running into the wall while making a catch during the seventh inning last night.

Manuel on Beltran:

“We had one report that his knee had kind of swollen a bit…He went down, they took a look at him, the trainer came back and said he’s done, but he said, ‘No, I’m not done, I want to play, I want to hit.’”

Beltran remained in the game, and, according to Manuel, will most likely be in Tuesday’s starting lineup.

“sorry mr trainer, I’m only down to about 68.4% now so I am going to play, thank the Lord Jesus.”

How anyone can continue to question a guy who played with a broken bone in his face, and played on two bad knees the final 50 games last year is beyond me.

Oh wait. I know exactly why people question him, and it has nothing to do with percentages.

Yep.

It’s the mole, right? Moles gross people out. Gotta’ be the mole…

I dont know, I’ve met Carlos’s uncle and even he questioned him being a right fit for the Mets.

If even his family has doubts in him, why couldnt we?

gothamknight84 September 23, 2008 at 6:59 am

what a player….that’s the way to be Carlos! We need your help!

Deaner September 23, 2008 at 7:28 am

There’s no other player I’d rather have in center field

Horseman September 23, 2008 at 7:49 am

This is a great statement.

Grady Sizemore.

But yeah. other than him, there’s no one better than Beltran.

I second that emotion

Man, what a softie that Beltran is! Let’s just call him “Mr. Sofitie!”….way too soft for New York! He’s no Melky Cabrera, i’ll tell you that!

Danny September 23, 2008 at 7:45 am

And he got a hit that at-bat, too.

mrose September 23, 2008 at 7:50 am

what I love about this thread, is that none of the cowardly people who call Beltran soft, or overpaid ..etc etc will make an appearance…and if they do, they are just reading…not commenting

I can sometimes understand why Beltran gets a bit of grief from fans because he can have some frustrating stretches but the truth is, as someone else put it above me, there is no better player in center field.

Dirtysanchez September 23, 2008 at 8:49 am

and im sure deeeeeeeeeeep down met fans feel the same…but dont look for them to give omar credit for that tho

What a great moment last night, when Easley was walking toward the batter’s box, then we looked up again and he was gone, and then Beltran emerged from the dugout. Lots of cheers. And then he singles. It was great.

It’s a damn shame Church ruined the moment a few pitches later.

I was in the mezzanine so I couldn’t really see what was hurting him. It was terrifying. Seeing him get up and also take another at bat was uplifting, even in a loss.

nostradamus September 23, 2008 at 10:14 am

he may beg out of tonite’s game

Nate W. September 23, 2008 at 11:15 am

Him just coming out to bat was uplifting, the hit even more so.

Its a shame the pen couldnt hold the game where it was because Marquis was really trying to start a rally every inning and the game would have been there for the taking.

I guess 6 IP and 3 runs from the pen is about as good as it could be though. 4.50 ERA is better than they have been doing.

And then there is Scneider and Castillo (both of whom shouldnt have been in the game to begin with) grounding into double plays all night.

No wonder the Mets have no come from behind wins over more than three runs. They can never catch what the pen is giving up.

I strongly think that Castillo and Brian should go. Maybe a trade package will do the trick this off season…

racemccloud September 23, 2008 at 3:35 pm

Carlos Beltran is officially The Man. If you don’t want him in center field for this team, then I don’t know who will make you happy out there. That’s your problem, not mine, not the Mets, and certainly not Carlos’.
