I totally agree.

I’m livid that the Mets would give Omar such an extension. I would make him sweat it out under the current agreement and actually EARN any kind of an extension.

To this point, I don’t think he has done enough to warrant such an extension. This is the GM equivalent of the Luis Castillo contract.

Terrible. He must have compromising pictures of the Wilpons.

Yes it is so similar, because there is a salary cap and the General Manager is part of that cap.

You do realize how unusual it is for a team to pluck a guy like Flores and then keep him on the 25 man roster for the entire year?

Not to mention catching is not the Mets current problem, unless the catcher is going to pitch the 7, 8 and 9th.

You clearly have a very different recollection of how Phillips was involved with the late 1990s Mets, his having the GM job fall in his lap AND what went down AFTER 2000.

I don’t know how many times I need to remind people of this:

The team that won for Steve Phillips was built by Omar Minaya and Bobby Valentine. Phillips was a suit, a GM-in-training for those late-90’s Mets. Once they won the pennant and Steve Phillips began to put his stamp on things, Omar left for Montreal, Bobby’s influence was pushed aside, and the team went down the crapper for five years.
