Note: Staffinator To Start Saturday
By Mike Nichols - Sep 23, 2008 5:06 pm

Prior to tonight’s game, Jerry Manuel told reporters he has still yet to decide on who will start Saturday’s game.

In an update to his blog for the Journal News, Josh Thomson notes “Staffinator” was listed in the Mets clubhouse as the starter for Saturday’s game against the Marlins

Thomson believes this may be an indication that everyone, including ’starters on their throw days,’ may be available to pitch during the game.

It’s also important to note an impending rain storm is in the forecast for Saturday.

Thomson also makes a post regarding the health of Carlos Beltran, who will be in tonight’s lineup.

I think everyone posting on the blog is going to be asked to pitch, to be honest.

I am actually in favor of “by committe” on Saturday. There is noone we can march out that we will all feel comfortable with on normal rest, so its not too negative of a feeling to see Pedro, Maine, Pelf and possibly Perez get 1-2 innings each. That right there can get us to inning 7, then we can take the standard course of action to blow it in the 8th/9th.

That would be a novelty – and actually might be needed.

    • dazedandconfused says:

well Santana’s pitching on sunday so he’s prob not part of the equation. It’ll prob be

      Perez- 2 innings
      Pelf- 2 innings
      Stokes- 3 innings

      • egnirc says:

That sounds better than this Staffinator:

        Heilman 2 innings
        Feliciano 2 Innings
        Show 2 innings
        Smith 2 innings

i may not be able to pitch, but i can run and try and take out HanRam’s knees… though i’ll need him back in time for fantasy baseball come next year.

  4. derxmasta says:

hopefully the marlins will be eliminated before they come to town then they will shut down hanram for the rest of the season

Maybe they can pitch heilman the first 3 innings?

    • pedro4545 says:

the marlins want nothing more than to knock us out like last year.

    • Stem Ad says:

Not a bad idea to place Heilman in to start, maybe it will give him some extra motivation. Yannk him after 3, Pelf for 4 and 5, Perez for 6 and 7, then we have a full pen to cover 2 innings as if we had a starter going 7. Who knows, maybe Pelf or Perez can be very economical and get 3 innings!

Or, our offense could step up and bury the fish with 10+ runs…

Eh………we can’t even get tomorrow 100% right on weather forecasts…..I wouldn’t trust saturday until its 24-48 hours out. Some of the models I’ve just looked at are showing clearing for the late afternoon/evening hours……….but again, the timing is worthless when you’re looking this far out.

  6. derxmasta says:

a day off would be nice for these guys to clear their heads
how nice would it be to have a double header for the last regular season day at shea!

single admission double header like last week?

    • pedro4545 says:

That wouldn’t work because what would happen to all those people who paid for tickets for Saturday for the 2nd to last game in Shea?

      • derxmasta says:

well according to the blog fans arent showing up for games
so if you combine the 2 games we can make 1 big crowd =)

        • ridethesnake says:

It would work because if the Mets clinch after Game 1, there wouldn’t even be a Game 2. Give them a free ticket next year.

  7. patrick says:

The Mets have to win tonight for Saturday’s rain to be relevant.

    • pedro4545 says:

In my opinion, the Mets MUST win these next two games with Johan and OP because I don’t see any chance of us winning the Pedro/Harden matchup.

  8. guierllNO MOta says:

first off, why wouldnt Santana start on short rest on Saturday, I mean this is a no-brainer, he’s gonna be asked to do it in the playoffs, this is practically the playoffs….

And then Sunday, OP can start, he has been fine on short rest in the past, including game 7 of 06CS and that makes 2 of our only 3 OK starters pitching the final 2…makes more sense than Knight,FIggy,Parnell,Neise combo…

If this team loses with Johan and Ollie on the mound, so be it, if we lose to give Johan an extra day….screw it, how could anyone even defend Jerry after that…even Willie wouldnt be that stupid

    • ridethesnake says:

Johan hasn’t pitched on three days rest in six years. He’s only done it 3x in his career before that and he’s got a 6+ ERA doing so. Let him win Sunday if needed.

  9. Moises says:

Ha! I couldn’t figure out why I couldn’t find any stats for Josh “staffinator” Thomson…Then I re-read the post.
