    Who’s hitting No. 2?

    Bye, Jerry.

    • Aquadealer says:

      Why is Castillo still playing???

    • kingman 26 says:

Yeah, but the 6-7-8 spots look better than they have in a while…

      • toomanyuniforms says:

        Small consolation.

How bad does Castillo have to be to merit a benching?

I feel like I asked the same question last year.

        • Jkon617 says:

          Absolutely right!

I am sorry but you must go with what works at this time of the year. Luis Castillo in 2008 is not Luis Castillo in 2003. Manuel your philosophy needs to change!

The playoffs (if we get there) is not about which team is better, it is which team is hotter. And the Mets are not hot with Castillo in that lineup.

        • X-Man says:

The Kilauea Volcano In Hawaii would not be hot with Castillo!

        • toomanyuniforms says:

As I said earlier, we fans chowed down on serious crow after Delgado’s turn around, but had there only been six games left in the season, the equation would have been different, and we may have been right.

      • Castillo should’ve been benched for his last at bat.

However, if Manuel chooses to have him in the lineup(or perhaps forced by Omar) then the 2 hole is where he is best suited.

    • magic00700magic says:

Wow, according to ESPN, Minaya to get a four year extension.

      Unbelievable.

  2. derxmasta says:

    lets go mets!
ill be at the game cheering them on

  3. Darth Manuel says:

Lets go mets… Slappy was lookin good in bp… can of corn power..

  4. metsfan42793 says:

I just ate my Papa John’s pizza and I’m ready to see a mets win.

  5. JohnsAmANIAC says:

Jeez why is castillo in the damn lineup ? its good to see castro playing rather than on the bench blowing bubbles

  6. Can’t listen to the game tonight = Google Text will be getting a lot of messages tonight!

  7. Darth Manuel says:

    anyone at the game?

  8. MetsFan4Decades says:

    Uh, Let’s Go Mets?

(Please, I’m begging you for a W tonight).

  9. Airfeet says:

I dont think Manuel benches players for not performing well..havent we learned from his usage of Heilman…obviously he doesnt care how many GIDP’s castillo has he’ll continue to play him

    • X-Man says:

Something must be wrong with Reyes (other than he can’t hit), how else can you explain why Castillo is still even on this team, never mind in the line-up.

      • kingman 26 says:

“Something must be wrong with Reyes (other than he can’t hit)”

        LOL!!!

        • X-Man says:

I thought you’d like that one kingman! LOL

        • kingman 26 says:

I loved it! And the other one about the volcano not being hot was good too….even though I am officially retired from the Slappy/Argenis debate, I sincerely appreciate being made to laugh about it.

You are on a serious comedy roll here X-Man…keep it up, as if we get behind early tonight, we will all need it!

      • I can explain why Castillo is in the lineup. Two words. Omar Minaya

  10. Nightlife says:

    Via ESPN Sportscenter:

Minaya receives 4 year contract extension.

  11. WestCoastMets_since86 says:

ESPN Reporting Omar Minaya gets 4 Year exentsion

    • dazedandconfused says:

NO FREAKIN WAY. THE WILPONS SHOULD BE DEAD FOR AGREEING TO THIS. SCREW THIS FRANCHISE. ABSOLUTELY PATHETIC!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    • toomanyuniforms says:

What needs to happen is clear. There used to be two NL franchises in New York. The Mets took over for both. Well, with the Mets moving into New Ebbets and Brooklyn Fred in command, I think it’s time for an EXPANSION TEAM!!! That’s right — expansion. A new New York NL team! Add another AL team, boot the Brew Crew back to the AL. . . . Spare us four more years of stammering, “you know what I’m sayin’” press conferences and bullpen collapses.

    • racemccloud says:

Great move. Good for Omar, good for the Mets!

  12. lil pelf says:

if my job were on the line, you’d have to fight me to put castillo in the two spot over daniel murphy

  13. dazedandconfused says:

Evans or Church should really be in the 2 hole. There’s no point using Castillo in there he should be batting 8th or possibly even 9th after Santana!

  14. Boscov says:

Did anyone see this? That Minaya just got a 4 year contract extension? What the F? ? ?

  15. huge_mets_fan11 says:

According to ESPN, Minaya is getting a 4 year extension

  16. jimyager says:

I want to watch the game, however, it will kill me and cause me to loose sleep when the pen blows it late and we leave 30 men on base.

    • X-Man says:

It’s really getting harder and harder to stay a Mets Fan. Omar 4 more years??????? Now we know why we’re the laughing stock in baseball. I know, I’m over reacting but WTF????

      • kingman 26 says:

You are not overreacting, it is bizarre……How can they announce this now? If we miss the postseason, is this going to help the Wilpons sell tix for the new stadium or cause a true fan revolt? Very, very strange timing on this.

  17. pedro4545 says:

    Minaya 4 year extension?!?!?! WHAT?

  18. Airfeet says:

BIGGEST JOKE IVE EVER SEEN…ITS ALMOST HARD TO WATCH THIS GAME AFTER SEEING THAT ARTICLE

  19. BullpenHelp says:

I bet by 2011, he can find someone good for the bullpen. I mean, at least one arm.

  20. Metfreak says:

I am hopin the brewers ,Astros and Marlins lose everygame left in the year because I lost my faith in this team even if they win tonight I would love to eat crow but I just lost hope for them

  21. pedro4545 says:

I think we shouldve waited until this team, you know, makes the playoffs.

    • kingman 26 says:

I so agree..why announce it now?

If we miss the playoffs, how is this going to look next week? Why not wait and see if we make it, and if not, maybe wait and quietly announce it like the day after Thanksgiving or something when no one is paying attention….

  22. Airfeet says:

Do the Wilpons even follow the team…or do they just do business

  23. metsmad22 says:

    castillo means a loss…..thanks

  24. dazedandconfused says:

The Wilpons clearly don’t care about the fans, if they did Omar would be gone at the end of this season. He did not fix this crappy bullpen at all, and he was given an insane amount of money. We could have had all those relievers philly has. but they outshopped us and now they’re going to october and we’re prob not!

  25. Metfreak says:

If pigs start flying and the Mets win the World Series this year we would not mind him here for 4 yrs but like I said when pigs start flying

  26. SOMETHING-IN-MY-THROAT-HELP says:

HELP HELP! I can’t breathe! maybe its because this team blows it like your momma works the streets

  27. dazedandconfused says:

The Cubs are basically giving this game to us. If we blow it then this team is as good as dead!

  28. Airfeet says:

    wow church

  29. EV says:

How does Minaya, get a 4 year extension? I’m sorry I didn’t know we made the playoffs this year already. Boy, we really do have some clueless owners.

  30. dazedandconfused says:

    good start for Johan!

  31. metsmad22 says:

    good start for jose!

  32. Steve in DC says:

    Jose!

Ok, they won’t pitch a no-hitter against us.

    Baby. Steps.

  33. The Slider says:

Now, please don’t get picked off Jose.

  34. dazedandconfused says:

I really wish we had more of a George Steinbrenner type Owner who only cared about winning, the Wilpons don’t seem to have that kind of fire

  35. racemccloud says:

    Well, there goes the no-hitter.

  36. SantanaCYYOung says:

how about a hit and run here?

  37. SantanaCYYOung says:

    jeez

  38. racemccloud says:

Hey, Omar haters, you really want to go back to the Jim Duquette/Steve Phillips days? Omar made this team relevant enough to care about in September again. Omar got us the guy on the mound tonight for N-O-T-H-I-N-G. Omar has done his end of the job.

    • SantanaCYYOung says:

i have to agree with you, he gets the big guys.

    • The Slider says:

Are you going to pin the bullpen, left field, the mishandling of Church and the signing of Castillo on Omar too?

      • racemccloud says:

How about we also give him credit for Easley, Wright and Reyes long term, Tatis, Oliver Perez for nothing, hanging on to Murphy and Evans, Delgado (because if Delgado hadn’t had that second half surge you would have added Delgado to your negative list), finishing in contention for the past four years also to Omar? He’s done far more good than bad, and every GM makes bad or questionable moves.

        • The Slider says:

Sure. Now please answer my question.

        • racemccloud says:

          I did.

        • apple_outta_da_hat says:

          well said ‘racemc’

        • The Slider says:

Great. Omar’s got us to the point of almost making the playoffs. Thank Omar. He’s four more years of mediocrity.

        • racemccloud says:

Hey, Omar can’t play the games. Omar can only get the guns. Every single guy in that bullpen is playing below their career numbers. A GM can only judge a guy on what he’s done before. Bottom line? The only reason this season has ANY HOPE at all is because of the guy on the mound tonight, who isn’t here if not for Omar. (Even though he’s given up a run. Dammit.)

        • gipper82475 says:

Maybe you should be a Pirates fan or a Royals fan…where “meaningful games in September” or being in a pennant race is a sufficient measure of success. Some of us have memories that predate the 90s….merely being better than the dreg teams of the 90s (or the 60s, or the 70s through early 80s) is not enough. What kind of inferiority complex do you have to have as a fan to be happy with that?

This team, with this payroll and talent, in this big of a market should aim higher than “being in [and blowing] a pennant race year after year.” But, as long as fans like you are okay with above-average but not great results – why would the Wilpons feel any pressure to actually, you know, WIN?

          Plus, the TIMING of this?

      • racemccloud says:

Oh, and Beltran. Money helps, sure. But he went and got him.

        • gipper82475 says:

And, he brought us back-to-back years of a team that chokes down the stretch and has put together two back-to-back craptastic bullpens (never addressing that glaring issue in the offseason).

Plus, he brought us that paranoid mental midget known as Willie. Or, have we forgotten?

Overall, I’d say Omar has done more good than bad….but the Castillo contract, Willie, the pen issues, etc are all on his head.

It makes ZERO sense not to wait to see what happens, If this group misses the playoffs again and yet had already given Omar a Castillo-length extension….there will be blood. Do you really want the last day at Shea to be a cacophony of Fire Omar chants knowing the Wilpons tied the franchise to Omar for nearly another half-decade? Juuu know wha I’m sayin?

      • racemccloud says:

I’d be very happy with Alou in LF, if he wasn’t hurt. I’d be happy with Castillo at 2B for 2 years (not 4), if he hadn’t ended up hurt. This bullpen shouldn’t, on paper, be this bad, but Omar can’t actually pitch for them. One guy who has been pretty effective is Ayala. Omar traded for him.

        • gipper82475 says:

Ummm, does it really take a genius to predict that Alou and Castillo would be injured? Alou has ALWAYS been injured….and he freakin signed Castillo to 4 years WHILE he was hurt.

Most of all….WHY sign Omar NOW? Why not wait to see if the team he built chokes yet again?

    • EV says:

Who said we have to go back to those guys? I don’t see how this guy get an extension when they are no lock to make the playoffs, which if they don’t means the Mets didn’t make the playoffs 3 out of 4 years under his watch which is not a GREAT JOB. If they do make the playoffs, then give him the extension.

  39. dazedandconfused says:

do pick-offs go towards your pitch count. I’m sure like 2 pick off throws equal a pitch or something like that

  40. metsmad22 says:

disguting castillo……and they showed the stats on tv finally.

  41. MetsFan4Decades says:

    Man….

  42. Airfeet says:

why arent we bunting castillo there

  43. racemccloud says:

    Wow. Castillo DOES stink.

  44. metsmad22 says:

    david is suddenly batting .300

  45. Airfeet says:

CASTILLO JUST RUINS THIS INNING…IF WE JUST BUNT HIM THERE THATS A RUN

  46. dazedandconfused says:

THAT ALWAYS HAPPENS. CASTILLO GROUNDS INTO A FORCE OUT AND JUST TAKES JOSE’S SPOT ON THE BASES!!!!!!!!! I HATE HIM SO MUCH!!!!

  47. SantanaCYYOung says:

    double steal?

  48. metsmad22 says:

    thanks beltran……great job….

  49. SantanaCYYOung says:

another inning we don’t score when we have multiple men on base

  50. metsmad22 says:

    and there is your ballgame.

  51. dazedandconfused says:

ALREADY 0 FOR 1 WITH RISP!!!!!!!! My guess is 0 for 15, whats yours?

  52. The Slider says:

Another squandered opportunity and were only in the first inning.

  53. metsmad22 says:

luis castillo can do one thing….bunt…..and he doesn’t even do it there. jose shoulda been on 2B for david…..it ruined the inning…..

  54. metsmad22 says:

beltran is back is his typical non clutchness……

  55. The Slider says:

What the f is Manuel thinking playing Castillo over A. Reyes?

  56. Airfeet says:

If theres ever a runner on with nobody out with Castillo up…AND HE DOESNT BUNT THE GUY OVER….IM GONNA FLIP OUT

  57. The Slider says:

Manuel should bat Castillo 9th and Santana 8th in the line-up.

  58. SantanaCYYOung says:

Just by listening to the crowd it seems as if they will be very loud if the mets are winning and will boo unmercifully if they are getting beat

  59. dazedandconfused says:

why do we always face good hitting pitchers?

  60. SantanaCYYOung says:

johan is throwing too many pitches early on

  61. SantanaCYYOung says:

    i can’t take this anymore

  62. metsmad22 says:

game changed when we couldn’t get a run in the first inning…..castillo changed the game already.

  63. dazedandconfused says:

    GAME OVER!!!!!!!!!!

  64. pedro4545 says:

Phillies down 1-0. Does that even matter anymore?

  65. EV says:

    Shoot!!!!!

  66. Airfeet says:

This game is over just because of Castillo’s ground out in the first inning

  67. Arsenal13 says:

game over against cubs 2nd string…but hey at least we signed the architect of this garbage team to a 4 year extension

  68. SantanaCYYOung says:

2 more runs and the game is over, mets are done when they’re down by 3

  69. Sylar says:

    It’s 1-0 in the 2nd inning…

Or are some of you too stupid to realize that?

  70. SOMETHING-IN-MY-THROAT-HELP says:

Getting beat by the AAA cubs!

  71. D-Day says:

anyone else hear the rant that mike on wfan said at the beginning of his show. brutal but all true!

  72. metsmad22 says:

    poor johan……

  73. EV says:

Come on, it’s not over yet it’s only 1-0.

  74. pedro4545 says:

Guys, chill out. It’s 1-0 in the first inning. Anybody who says this game’s over is crazy.

  75. nyj0126 says:

Manuel will be back because the Mets are timid. Omar gets a 4 year extension just like our 2 hitter. They throw Pelfrey on less rest against a weaker team on Sunday.

Why should we believe in them if they don’t believe in themselves? We’re talking about if the Mets play even .500 ball in the last six, they’ll probably get in. It’s almost like they want to lose. Like they want to get beaten. Like they’re running into a wave in the ocean they know they won’t make it through. It’s hard to believe, but I’ll try.

  76. Metfreak says:

They have to win this game

  77. nyj0126 says:

Why? Luis Castillo is hitting 2nd? He’s batting .200 since getting back. He’s not exactly the best fielder. We could have used Daniel Murphy in the line up tonight. Could he really be play that much worse of a 2B than him? Do we not qualify as desperate at this point?

It’s the same thing as last year until they snap out of the funk like they did last week. I’m happy that Johan pitches 2 out of the last 6, but starting out by losing a game against a rookie is not what you need. It makes the Mets psychologically weak.

  78. 911nafstem says:

I wish I could work for the NY Mets. I could sleep during meetings, eat the stinkiest lunchest, piss on the toilet seat, and then get a raise at the end of the year. What a joke

  79. Airfeet says:

    BAD CALL

  80. The Slider says:

“. . . and quickly there are two outs.”

  81. metsmad22 says:

no one say chill out…..it’s you pansies that give this team its pathetic attitude.

    • nyj0126 says:

We can’t control anything. They’re the ones playing. I’m trying to be confident, but the confident fans just are not on the same page with this teams emotional demeanor.

  82. The Slider says:

I’m sorry. It’s looking like one of “those” games. We’re not looking very confident up at the plate.

  83. metsmad22 says:

this game is DISGUSTING……this team did not look like this with argenis and easley playing………castillo’s at bat set the tone for the offense. the game is already over.

    • pedro4545 says:

I would argue that it’s your attitude that give our fans a bad rep.

    • Sylar says:

If it’s over already, then why are you still watching?

      • nyj0126 says:

It’s not over… Just frustrating. We need to win tonight and take 2 of these remaining 3 to have a realistic chance unless we expect Milwaukee to lay down for Pittsburgh… Probably won’t happen.

Who evers up against the Mets in September can turn into an instant thriver. Too bad the Mets aren’t that guy… yet

      • therealsince86 says:

Again, if we stop responding to trolls they just go away. Do you think ANYONE on here takes this clown seriously?

  84. nyj0126 says:

We gotta score next inning. Give Johan a lead and he’ll protect. He’ll go deep. Something gives me a bad feel in my stomach about the bullpen.

It was like deja vu with the Mets pen on Sunday. Weren’t the Mets up like 4-2 the previous Sunday to the same team? Only difference was the ball park.

  85. chicagometfan says:

The home plate ump’s strike zone while we are at bat is ridiculous

  86. Metfreak says:

1-2-3 FOR THE Mets and the Cubs score againts our ace

  87. nyj0126 says:

The Cubs get runners on when the game doesn’t even count. They get them in scoring position. And us? What are we doing right?

  88. metsmad22 says:

the good feeling of the top of the first got erased by castillo and beltran…..what a suprise.

  89. metsmad22 says:

    great game guys…..

  90. pedro4545 says:

    Too many doubles.

  91. nyj0126 says:

    Pack it in.

Anyone got a good duffle bag?

  92. Airfeet says:

This SEASONS COLLAPSE IS WORSE THAN LAST YEAR….AT LEAST WE WON A FEW GAMES LAST YEAR WE ARE GOING 0-6 OUR LAST 6 GAMES

  93. metsfan42793 says:

SEE SANTANA THIS IS WHAT HAPPENS WHEN YOU GIVE UP 3 DOUBLES IN 3 INNINGS

  94. metsmad22 says:

    great job johan.

  95. Metfreak says:

This is sick they can score off of our ace but we can’t score agiants the bad news bears at this point

    • metsmad22 says:

      curse of castillo

      • WrightsRight says:

honestly, there is absolutely a curse. please watch the movie Master & Commander. While I don’t think Castillo should “sacrifice” himself for the sake of his shipmates, I do think he should beg out of the lineup. I don’t care if 0 for Life AReyes is in there, at least he is not clearly a hex.

  96. Dmak says:

    Game
    Set
    Season.

  97. nyj0126 says:

So what should we do now? Forget about this game and tune into Pittsburgh and pray like a bunch of patsies that someone lights a fire under the Mets butts tomorrow – again?

  98. nyj0126 says:

Not for nothing though, this is not a good start by Johan.

    • nyj0126 says:

who loves the iraq war? lol not me. if i didn’t like the Mets wasting money on Luis Castillo or Omar Minaya, why would I like Bush throwing our economy in the toilet?

  99. metsmad22 says:

thanks castillo for ruining two seasons with your negativity. i wish that guy the worst things you could wish for a human being.

  100. nyj0126 says:

Of all times, why would you sign Omar to a 4 year extension now? Isn’t it like a slap in all of our faces? If they were going to hold him, why not just announce it later on? Isn’t it a distraction?

  101. DavidDog says:

how depressing. what a huge disaster in the making. Only the Mets… it’s especially interesting to imagine that final Shea game: what would it be like if the Mets just got eliminated the previous day? or, possibly worse, if they still have the slightest chance of making it with a win and someone else’s loss?

  102. pedro4545 says:

WE ARE WINNING THIS GAME HAVE SOME FAITH

  103. EV says:

It’s not Johan at his best, but it’s still only 2-0.

  104. SOMETHING-IN-MY-THROAT-HELP says:

    HAHahahahaha!

One more run and you guys should throw in the towels. Hey don’t worry though–you guys have got like four more innings to get at least a five run lead before the pen comes in.

  105. metsmad22 says:

the only player to have a losing record on these current mets is luis castillo…….don’t tell me it’s coincidence.

  106. Metfreak says:

How many would love it if it can be Monday already so we don’t have to put ourselves through this again

  107. miker94 says:

first of all, let me start out by saying that the castillo argument is getting old. i’ll be the first to say that the guy is horrible and I despise him. i think he should never, EVER be on the field for the new york mets and i do believe that he is the reason why the mets are losing, as crazy as that sounds. even SNY put up the graphic during his first at bat about the teams’ record with him starting and without him, and the numbers are staggering. you really can’t argue with that. That being said, the argument is getting old. so I’m not arguing in this particular post for or against crapillo, but I do have a very interesting point to make. baseball is a sport predicated on failure. ALL baseball players, (offensively) fail, more than they succeed. Unless someone is batting .500 or better, then they fail more often than not, it’s the nature of baseball. therefore, if ALL players fail more often than not, and castillo fails WAY more than that, someone please explain to me why he would not bunt in the situation that came about in the 1st inning? reyes on 1st with 0 outs. you figure crapillo will get out anyway, why not bunt him over? then when wright got his hit, we would have had men on 2nd and 3rd with 1 out, instead of 1st and 2nd with 1 out. i dont know if that’s HIM, or if that’s jerry. either way, THAT is the problem with this team. One more thing, santana gives up WAY too many hits. other than maybe 1 or 2 starts this season, the guy gives up so many hits. what makes him SOOO good is that he normally gets out of it unscathed. problem is, the opportunity for big innings is always there for opposing teams due to his lack of ability to have a 1-2-3 inning. i love the guy, and he has been HUGE for us, but just too many hits. oh well. i wonder if the mets will win another game this season. i see the 07′ mets ALL over their faces. what a shame.

  108. nyj0126 says:

Is there a God out there who can make the Pirates lose every game? One that would make the Marlins lose 2 of their next 3 so their wins don’t count against the Mets? Is there out there? No, there’s now. Maybe Atheism isn’t so bad after all lol

  109. 911nafstem says:

The Braves series was the final nail in the coffin. Blowing two late leads to that sht team took all the air out of the tires. Now I have a whole off-season of hearing sht about being a Mets fan to look forward to.

    • jimyager says:

Yes we lost the season when the Braves beat us twice and we lost 2 of 4 to the Nats. We where in first place at that time and since then we are 2 games behind the Phillies and only one game ahead of the Brewers. We HAVE to win the next three and it aint gonna happen. CHOKE….

  110. dykstraw says:

sean marshall hasn’t pitched in 2 1/2 weeks and he’s cy young out there

    • 911nafstem says:

Of course, what else is new? Whatever, if the Mets hit tonight the bullpen would blow the game. Pick your poison, you want to be drowned or be electrocuted? Be forced to watch Friends or Greys Anatomy?

  111. Airfeet says:

I KNOW A VERY SIMPLE AND LOGICAL WAY TO TURN THE TERRIBLE METS OF 07 AND 08 INTO A CHAMPIONSHIP TEAM IN 09….Its very simple…

    1) we Trade Beltran (has to waive his no trade clause) for 1 top prospect and one middle relief pitcher that is good enough to get through an inning without giving up a run (very reasonable trade) We are only really losing defense here…lets not forget Bletrans a career. .275 hitter…hes overrated offensively hes in hte middle of a good lineup..and can easily be replaced by manny

    2) We sign Manny Ramirez…I DONT WANNA HEAR ANYONE SAY HES A CANCER (The guy has won 2 rings with the sox and is one of the clutchest hitters in hte leage. The fact that he is cocky is a GREAT thing…the mets need a player with confidence and someone who actually think hes good and can get the job done..thats what this team lacks…

    3) Most obvious thing…we sign KROD…dont really need to explain this one

    - WITH these moves….we lose a little in defense..but we gain upside offensively tremendously with a clutch hitter…we upgrade our bullpen tremendously…and we update our farm system…seems very simple

    • metsmad22 says:

love it……we need guys who have BALLS…..beltran is completely lacking in that area.

    • SOMETHING-IN-MY-THROAT-HELP says:

I know how to avoid the repeat of 2007 and 2008 for the Mets–Move the team to Las Vegas

  112. nyj0126 says:

I’ll be back later… It’s bad enough watching this game. I won’t talk to people about brain to rock references right now lol

  113. miker94 says:

every single inning, hits, hits, hits. honestly, how about ONE inning where it’s 1-2-3? come on already!

  114. WrightsRight says:

the thing is, it’s great to have a pitcher like Santana as a “stopper.” But how many times in a season do you have to pray for the man to “stop.” Wouldn’t it be nice for him to just have a nice, stress-free start?

  115. jimyager says:

The Red Sox broke the curse and dumped it on the METS !! turn off the TV and go to bed and dream about 2009 in the new stadium. THIS TEAM BITES and should be buried or thrown out with the trash.

  116. BigPelf4prez says:

    GO JERRY!! GET THROWN OUT!!!

  117. nyj0126 says:

The Mets could call up Ruddy Lugo, trade him to the Cubs and let him pitch tomorrow night and we all know he’d throw 7 shut out innings again them. Sean Marshall is not ”throwing good.” The Mets are just not hitting.

  118. BigPelf4prez says:

GARY COHEN STOP GIVING THE PHILLY SCORE!! WHO CARES!! IT ADDS SALT TO THE WOUNDS!

  119. DAG says:

I’d like to see Jerry get thrown out. Light a fire.

  120. DavidDog says:

how long has it been since we had a friggen BIG inning?

    khrist guys, COME ON!!!

  121. metsmad22 says:

if we miss the playoffs, i would trade beltran, not extend delgado, and i’d give texeira his 10 year contract. i’d also trade for randy winn.

  122. Arsenal13 says:

    I’m feelin it this inning

  123. nyj0126 says:

Imagine if the Mets are eliminated before Sunday’s game.

    Just imagine, like that song.

Imagine the last game at Shea be meaningless after Saturday’s misery. Will their be a good bye and saying thank you to our fans? You better hope not.

    • Arsenal13 says:

It would be the exact same as that stupid Yankee Stadium celebration. Players taking a victory lap for missing the postseason

      • nyj0126 says:

I don’t think they’d go through with it. I think the fans would boo them. If they did celebrate through all that, I’d hand in my resignation papers as a Mets fan lol Possibly from baseball altogether.

  124. nyj0126 says:

Life. You are up there. Life. How beautiful would a Delgado home run be?

    • toomanyuniforms says:

I’d rather he concentrate on getting on base. The five-run-homer swings have a lot to do with the offense’s recent struggles.

  125. toomanyuniforms says:

Darn this bullpen!!! Blowing another one!

  126. nyj0126 says:

Why do the Phils have to have the bases loaded when we get life?

  127. nyj0126 says:

Pat Burrell pops out – luck. Carlos Beltran gets a meat ball down Broadyway. This isn’t Martin Scorcese on Saturday night live Carlos

  128. Airfeet says:

Beltran is the most overrated player in the league…the only thing hes good for his defense and 23 home runs…the guy hits .275 and only drives in 100 runs because he hits behind wright and reyes…

  129. metsmad22 says:

    eff you beltran…..

  130. Arsenal13 says:

d wright is the only one who can do anything for this team

  131. 911nafstem says:

    this is getting funny

  132. metsmad22 says:

    eff you delgado.

  133. dykstraw says:

wow, can any of these clowns hit a curveball

  134. Arsenal13 says:

    PATHETIC

  135. nyj0126 says:

At least Delgado is mad and upset

  136. MetsFan4Decades says:

OMG – some of you have completely lost your minds.
    LOL !

  137. toomanyuniforms says:

    That was pathetic.

    Crickets from the Beltran lobby.

  138. 911nafstem says:

I think the Mets should add an extra year to Omar’s deal after tonight’s loss

  139. nyj0126 says:

Not good enough though. The ghosts are back.

They should play that song Ghostbusters as the theme song… Well actually they can’t because they didn’t bust any ghosts lol

  140. metsmad22 says:

what a suprise, the white guy actually has a pair down the stretch….

  141. apingicer says:

Ladies and gentlemen, your 2008 NL Cy Young winner, Sean Marshall!

  142. BigPelf4prez says:

I cant take it. Team is lifeless.

  143. The Slider says:

Mets hitters are looking pretty feeble up there tonight. This does not inspire confidence, does it?

  144. Metfreak says:

WoW can the SF Giants move back to NY so I can have a different ballclub to root for

  145. metsmad22 says:

i want beltran and delgado gone if we miss the playoffs…..this team is a bunch of chokers except wright……it was the same thing last year…..and all this started when luis castillo came back…HE CHANGED THE GAME IN THAT FIRST INNING.

  146. nyj0126 says:

All I can say is lets hope for some good Deja Vu.

What I mean is Ollie throwing a big game which he’s known for.
On last Wednesday after losing 3 straight, the Mets bounced back to start a 3 game winning streak.

It can happen again. We need to believe. I don’t know if those wheels will getting moving tonight. This is why you need to start out with a lead and command the game.

    • metsmad22 says:

shut up…..every day you talk about how the next day will be better….don;t you get it……this team is not going to change even if you believe……these players don’t like playing for you…..david does…..jose mostly does…..maine does……but no one else.

    • SantanaCYYOung says:

the mets are going to finish with the same record as they did last year in their final 17 (5-12).

  147. Airfeet says:

cant wait to watch the postgame interviews…I cant wait to see what Manuel has to say…maybe he should try something different and just say the team sux and that we’re in terrible shape

  148. SantanaCYYOung says:

pretty soon the cubs will have a big inning, doesn’t matter cause one more run and the mets are dead.

this kid is going to shut us out, guaranteed

  149. The Slider says:

Racemcloud, where are you???? C’mon. Let’s hear that defense of Omar again.

Oh, I forgot to add Heath Bell to the list.

  150. The Slider says:

I think watching MSNBC’s coverage of the economic crises is less depressing than watching this game.

  151. Ok big inning coming up….let’s watch the magic!!!

  152. miker94 says:

nice that the mets are ALL striking out to a NO NAME pitcher…hey, imagine that. ya know, everyone on this planet knew that coming into this game, it was a dire, dire situation and a situation where an unbelievable sense of urgency was required. yet you watch these players and it looks like they don’t even care. looks like they don’t want to win. looks like they are planning their tee times. whether that’s the case or not, that’s what fans perceive and that’s a shame. you watch the phillies play a game that doesn’t even matter and you can see it on every single player’s face, they are fighting, clawing, scratching, willing to do ANYTHING to win a ball game. i said this yesterday and i’ll say it again. it all goes back to having winners on your team. this team is a team full of mentally weak players, who are not proven winners. a combination of players like that equals a losing team. and that’s what we are seeing today.

  153. niteplanner says:

this is just sickening. this team has no heart, no desire to win.
They’re not gangstas, they’re sissies. It doesn’t matter if Santana went out there and put up 0’s through 9 innings, they’d still lose. The manager won’t make a difference – they should just put a shrink in the skippers uniform.

  154. metsmad22 says:

castillo’s presence makes this team into what it is right now……it was like this ONLY when he’s been around…..it wasn’t willie, or jerry, or omar……they play DEAD with that scumbag on this team. SIT HIM ON THE BENCH JERRY…..honestly, it’s like they are purposely throwing this game.

  155. 911nafstem says:

If the Mets choke again, I mean, will the ‘09 regular season even be watchable?

  156. SantanaCYYOung says:

how quick will this 1-2-3 inning go?

  157. Knuckles99 says:

2 zip? Are you guys not cheering loud enough?

  158. garfios says:

And now, Steve Carlton pitching for the Cubbies

  159. metsmad22 says:

im sure they are playing this poorly b/c we don’t cheer enough right?

  160. Metfreak says:

Yes its the fans fault for them choking

  161. EV says:

    Great 2-0 Milwaukee

  162. Airfeet says:

IF WE DONT CAPITALIZE ON THIS

  163. Arsenal13 says:

    ridiculously awesome hit

  164. JohnsAmANIAC says:

Johan has so much heart hes the only one on that damn team who wants to win

  165. MetsFan4Decades says:

    Well that was just weird.
    Now take advantage.

  166. BigPelf4prez says:

They will nor score here. Write it down now.

  167. dykstraw says:

    TEAM OF DESTINY HIT

    screw you bucs

  168. BlueCapsOnly says:

God is trrrrrrying to help us…

  169. nyj0126 says:

Get us out of the hole. What a break. Brew Crew score? It may be over boys. Score here and it won’t.

  170. Airfeet says:

Reyes already had his 1 hit for the game…idk if he can get another

  171. metsmad22 says:

please jose, smart baseball….dont pop up.

  172. metsmad22 says:

    thanks ump….

  173. 911nafstem says:

    YEAHH!!!!! CLUTCH BASEBALL!!!!!

  174. WrightsRight says:

    ok, inning over.

  175. metsmad22 says:

    do it for me luis

  176. 911nafstem says:

here we go, dribbler to second

  177. JohnsAmANIAC says:

Here comes a three run jack

  178. WrightsRight says:

    best case scenario…castillo walks.

  179. garfios says:

This guy is not throwing 98 mph, why so many hitters are missing?

  180. Airfeet says:

Castillo is 0 for his last 20..hes due

  181. toomanyuniforms says:

Jose may be requesting slower, more somber numbers tonight at the club at 4 AM

  182. BlueCapsOnly says:

The ump stole that AB from Reyes

  183. Arsenal13 says:

castillo haha no chance of anything here

  184. metsmad22 says:

if castillo gets a hit, i will not saying anything again

  185. JohnsAmANIAC says:

is it wrong for me to pray luis gets hit?

  186. bittergreen says:

“marshall having the game of his life”….

    “turn those frowns upside down”…

This is making me ill listening to this.

  187. BigPelf4prez says:

    he wont swing. hahahaha

  188. metsmad22 says:

come on david…..all you need is a single.

  189. Arsenal13 says:

haha dumb pitcher…h couldve thrown batting practice and still got an out there

  190. MetsFan4Decades says:

    The infamous bases loaded situation……

  191. dykstraw says:

castillo busting out his one tool

  192. JohnsAmANIAC says:

    Here comes mr clutch

  193. toomanyuniforms says:

Honestly, a great AB by Castillo

  194. D-Day says:

ok, D-wright, its now or never!

  195. apingicer says:

    Regarding Castillo…

The Mets traded for him on July 30, 2007. They subsequently went 29-28 the rest of the season and missed the playoffs.

From the beginning of 2008 until he went on the DL July 3, the Mets were 42-43.

From July 4 to August 24, without Castillo, they were 30-16!!!!!!

From Aug 25 to now, they have been 14-11.

Do we see a pattern here????????????????????

  196. metsfan42793 says:

    CMON MR. CLUTCH

  197. Metfreak says:

    Lets score PLEASE

  198. metsfan42793 says:

    YEA DAVID

  199. metsmad22 says:

    david wirhgt is the KING

  200. The Slider says:

Give Omar a 6 year extension!!!!!!!!!

  201. Knuckles99 says:

Look back to this at bat as the defining moment in the season.

  202. WrightsRight says:

there ya go, Wright! No need for a HR, just chip away man!

  203. garfios says:

    That is what we need

  204. Airfeet says:

THANK YOU WRIGHT..FINALLY SOMOENE DOES SOMETHING

  205. kingman 26 says:

DEAR GOD I HOPE THAT HIT SHUTS UP SOME OF YOU ABSOLUTE CLOWNS FOR FIVE SECONDS

  206. MetsFan4Decades says:

    I DON’T KNOW BELIEVE IT !!!!!!!!!!!

  207. EV says:

  208. D-Day says:

  209. DavidDog says:

  210. miker94 says:

wow, people are angry on this site…lol

  211. D-Day says:

    NEED MORE!!! LETS GO BELTRAN!!!

  212. metsmad22 says:

    great job beltran……

  213. BlueCapsOnly says:

David has really flicked a switch this last week. He’s finally not trying to hit a homer every at bat.

  214. Airfeet says:

BELTRAN FUKING SUX…THAT WAS THE AB WE NEEDED THERE TO TAKE THE LEAD…ITS UNBLIEEVABLE HOW BAD HE IS

  215. JohnsAmANIAC says:

Lol santana was running for his life

  216. Metfreak says:

When was the last time we had a big inning ?

  217. Wright88 says:

    Wright is clutch

  218. MetsFan4Decades says:

    New ballgame. Let’s do this.

  219. Metfreak says:

Beltran is not 100% so he won’t play hard If it was up to him I am sure he would be sitting this game

  220. D-Day says:

good to see david come through and tie this thing but it just baffles the mind how many men we leave on base (5 by beltran alone!)

  221. BigPelf4prez says:

The lead will be gone shortly. D wRight now has one more big hit than A Rod this year

  222. DavidDog says:

santana 70 pitches through 5 – unless he gets roughed up, gotta go 9, dont care if it takes 130 – i am sick of watching the pen bury us

  223. I would like to refer all of you to my post above:

big inning is two runs? I get more runs from a bowl of fiber.

iNNING was completely ruined by Beltran popping up….we could have really made it a big inning by taking the lead with our ace on hte mound…not tying it up

  252. MetsFan4Decades says:

    With Santana up, no less.

  253. dykstraw says:

we might be talking about that broken bat hit for the rest of our lives

  254. Wright88 says:

big inning, c’mon Johan GS. Its happened to us twice, its onyl fair one of our pitchers gets one.

  255. SantanaCYYOung says:

  257. DavidDog says:

  258. therealsince86 says:

  276. racemccloud says:

OF COURSE CASTILLO KILLS THE RALLY

  299. D-Day says:

    WOW! WAY TO GO REYES!!!!

  300. SantanaCYYOung says:

u have to get that guy in from 3rd

  301. racemccloud says:

    What’s the Luis Castillo song?

  302. WrightsRight says:

ahhh, nothing like a castillo nubber to kill a buzz.

  303. nastyslider says:

AND CASTILLO BLOWS IT. TYPICAL. LOL!

  304. metsmad22 says:

hahaha luis is the worst player i’ve ever seen.

  305. MetsFan4Decades says:

Man, I was really routing for Castillo to do something there….

  306. Airfeet says:

idk how Reyes doesnt score there…and Castillo is so bad

  307. miker94 says:

HUGE, but not nearly enough. we need at least 4 or 5 more runs, literally. i’m not even kidding a little bit…

  308. D-Day says:

one more for good measure wright, LETS GO METS!!!!

  309. nyj0126 says:

I can’t believe what my eyes just saw

  310. washtiger says:

YES!!!! Finally some success with the bases loaded tonight!!

  311. miker94 says:

    nice power crapillo!

  312. SantanaCYYOung says:

reyes HAS to score here, HAS to

  313. nastyslider says:

thats why we need a power guy in the 2 hole!

  314. racemccloud says:

That’s a big inning, even with Reyes left on third.

  315. cousinrk says:

Wow Castillo right now hits like a pitcher although many pitchers can hit the ball to the warning track.

  316. D-Day says:

now if we can push santana for a complete game we will be in good shape!

  317. SantanaCYYOung says:

does anybody else think that reyes run on third will be key?

  318. nastyslider says:

not gonna get on Wright for this one, he did his job for today.

  319. zen says:

smugger: gary cohen or mike francesa?

    • gipper82475 says:

Francessa. Gary is fairly humble, I find. Despite his encyclopedic knowledge of Mets history.

Have you ever had to endure other broadcast teams – like, say, the Marlins booth or the Nats booth? Trust me, we are VERY lucky.

  320. therealsince86 says:

No reason for Jose not to have scored there.

  321. WrightsRight says:

need at least 7 more runs.

  322. therealsince86 says:

I would have used Schnieder to pinch hit with Reyes on 3rd for Castillo. You could have always had Awful Reyes to play the field next inning.

  323. nastyslider says:

just hold this lead now Santana he should go at least 8. pitch count should be near 130 today! This is a huge game!!!!!!!!!

  324. SantanaCYYOung says:

    that was his 90th pitch

  325. miker94 says:

don’t get all excited here people. we have a 4 run lead, if the pen comes in at ALL, that’s not enough, we will lose 100%. we will either need more runs, or santana to go 9. that’s a fact! come on now!

  326. D-Day says:

again, games like this are why we got santana, him being on the mound i think gave this whole team confidence to get it done so far!

  327. Mingo says:

I heard they are going to change the Save Rule. They are doing it for the Mets. If you come in to pitch in the ninth inning with less than an eight run lead you will be eligible for a save.

  328. D-Day says:

santana is just a BEAST!!!! the man is fearless on the mound!

    • kingman 26 says:

He is a great pitcher, an excellent fielder, a fast, good baserunner and a leader.

      He is awesome.

  329. Metfreak says:

    Thank God for Johan

  330. metsmad22 says:

santana = unreal……….how is he friends with that life drainer castillo?

    • SantanaCYYOung says:

cause santana is the anti-castillo, you ever see twins with devito and the governator?

    • racemccloud says:

You know, just because the man is in a terrible slump and is killing the Mets at the plate… doesn’t mean he’s an unlikable human being who deserves no friends.

  331. nastyslider says:

101 pitches through 7. At least 1 more inning!

  332. garfios says:

Very nice, we need this game badly, just like the next five.

  333. SantanaCYYOung says:

101 pitcher through 7 for santana, we need runs here

carlos and carlos espalda to espalda homeruns here or what?

  334. garfios says:

I don’t want to see the bp in this game.

  335. therealsince86 says:

101 pitches if he comes out and has another quick inning then let him finish it.

  336. garfios says:

CB, yank one out of here!

  337. WrightsRight says:

we need some serious tack-on runs.

  338. garfios says:

    He is been awful today

  339. SantanaCYYOung says:

    beltran looks horrible today

  340. garfios says:

    CD, hit one out!

  341. Metfreak says:

Like I said when Beltran is not 100% he won’t play hard

    • racemccloud says:

Yes, that’s why he came in last night to hit even when the trainer told him not to. He packs it in when he’s hurt. Beltran is an amazing player and we’re lucky to have him in CF.

  342. el_giacomo says:

    LET’S GO METS!

It’s my birthday and a win would be icing on the cake!

    har har…

/end shameless ‘yay me it’s my birthday’ plug

  343. MetsFan4Decades says:

I’d feel a whole lot better with about 6 more runs……

    Come on Delgado.

  344. garfios says:

Castro is not looking good at the plate either

  345. zen says:

    johan santana: worth.every.penny.

  346. SantanaCYYOung says:

my heart really needs a 1-2-3 inning from santana here

  347. el_giacomo says:

wowowow…just watched the Gameday video replay of Reyes’ 3-run triple! That was awesome! Whatta big hit for #200!

  348. racemccloud says:

Pittsburgh has 1st and 3rd and 1 out.

  349. SantanaCYYOung says:

big k, 5 more outs to go

  350. nastyslider says:

come on make the next 4 guys all strikeouts. Lets see Reyes get 200 hits and Santana 200 strikeouts in the same game!

  351. Metfreak says:

How many of us would feel like an ape came off our backs if the Mets,Braves and Pirates can win tonight

  352. SantanaCYYOung says:

another big k, 4 more outs to go

  353. el_giacomo says:

    Sit down D. Lee!

  354. nastyslider says:

    amazing!

  355. dykstraw says:

    ollie looks NOTHING like mclovin

  356. Sylar says:

    I love Johan Santana…

  357. Jay says:

Wow can we all just take a time out and just appreceiate how lucky we are to have Santana on our team?

(and as I type that reed johnson gets a basehit)

But still. We are very lucky.

  358. SantanaCYYOung says:

    please get derosa out

  359. nastyslider says:

ugh no chance for complete game now!

  360. racemccloud says:

NO! LET HIM PITCH THE 9TH!

  361. Metfreak says:

Johan is the ace the Mets didn’t have since Gooden

  362. SantanaCYYOung says:

no way he goes out for the 9th now

  363. racemccloud says:

This home plate ump is awful.

  364. MetsFan4Decades says:

    crap.

  365. WrightsRight says:

    Phil Cuzzi is the anti-christ.

  366. SantanaCYYOung says:

this ump is terrible, that were a met he’d be struck out by now

  367. WrightsRight says:

Cy Young winners should ALWAYS get that call. Always. Always. Same with that missed call before.

  368. metsmad22 says:

    this ump should be shot….

  369. dykstraw says:

does phil cousy have money on this game?

  370. D-Day says:

    cmon santana, gimme one more!

  371. nastyslider says:

    are they taking him out?

  372. SantanaCYYOung says:

    oh my….

  373. el_giacomo says:

alright Johan, clean up this mess! u can do it man!

  374. metsmad22 says:

this is the worst squeeing i’ve seen.

  375. 911nafstem says:

If Schoeneweis even thinks about getting in this game someone should club his kneecap

  376. SantanaCYYOung says:

    one more strike please

  377. racemccloud says:

This is his last batter, one way or the other.

  378. D-Day says:

    LETS GO SANTANA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  379. SantanaCYYOung says:

    its never easy

  380. MetsFan4Decades says:

Come on Johan – you can get this.

  381. metsmad22 says:

this ump totally messed up on this….and now johan will be tired for sunday…..

    • therealsince86 says:

You made a sensible post so I will actually respond. Johan will be fine for Sunday. It’s his normal rest. If we had paniced and pitched him on 3 days rest then I would be worried.

  382. racemccloud says:

    That’s how you do it.

  383. SantanaCYYOung says:

    yes!!!!!!!!!!!!! breathebreath

  384. Metfreak says:

I LOVE YOU JOHAN THANK YOU FOR GIVING ME A LITTLE HOPE

  385. nastyslider says:

    whew!!!!!!!!!!

  386. MetsFan4Decades says:

Yup. worth every damn penny. I’d be willing to take up a collection for a tip…..

  387. dykstraw says:

    pay that man his money

  388. el_giacomo says:

    Yes! JOHAN!!! U DA MAN!!!!!!!

  389. bittergreen says:

3 more long outs in the 9th inning. Come on bullpen.

  390. D-Day says:

its offical everyone, i have a man crush on santana! the guy is the MAN!!!!!!!

  391. metsmad22 says:

johan is so pissed at that ump…..that was GARBAGE…..that ump should be suspended for that. i’m honestly worried johan threw too many pitches now.

  392. WrightsRight says:

great game from santana. just what we needed.

  393. 911nafstem says:

It’s nice when a big time free agent actually comes through and earns his money for once

  394. SantanaCYYOung says:

going to top of 5 in milwaukee, pirates still up 3-2

  395. metsmad22 says:

johan is not just talented, he is a gamer……..and he deserves every penny he got…..

  396. SantanaCYYOung says:

    please score some runs

    • racemccloud says:

I’d rather score no runs and get a 1-2-3 from the bullpen, because in the long (short) run it’s more important to get a good bullpen outing than it is to get another few tack on runs.

Most of all, though, i want to win.

  397. Gasface77 says:

I wish Gary would shut up about the pitch count. Who cares at this point. This is the biggest game of the season so far. Enough with the counting…

  398. SuicideWatch says:

I’ve said some negative things about Santana in the past….ahhh…yeah, I take every single negative word back.

    Santana is an absolute BULLDOG!!!!!

  399. SantanaCYYOung says:

    my man murph

  400. metsmad22 says:

or dan murph could be the most patient hitter on the mets in years.

  401. nastyslider says:

    next guy should be bunting!

  402. gomets6091 says:

Santana is simply amazing. Where would we be without him?

  403. therealsince86 says:

Like this move. Let him stay in at 2nd for defense. If we get to Castillo’s spot then pinch hit for him.

  404. Gasface77 says:

Does anyone have any doubt now that if the Mets need that last game, that Santana won’t come up huge. The man is a monster. Guy should have 20 wins by now and on his way to the Cy Young. I’ll take a playoff birth to start….what we saw tonight is the difference between last year and this year, along with a clutch hit by the “best shortstop in N.Y.”

  405. 911nafstem says:

Does anyone in their right mind actually think the Phillies are losing tonight?

  406. Metfreak says:

We need to score more runs

  407. metsmad22 says:

endy should be in here for murph……he’ll be replacing him anyway in the bottom frame.

  408. metsforever says:

Score more. It’s that time again.

  409. MetsFan4Decades says:

Gary – ‘Remember El Duque’? – HAHAHAHAHA

  410. SantanaCYYOung says:

a.reyes neeeds to gey the bunt down

  411. WrightsRight says:

it’s all about fundies…fundies…need to get that bunt down.

  412. MetsFan4Decades says:

I’ve set it before….NO ONE on this team can bunt except Endy and Pedro….

  413. EV says:

Santana has been worth every penny he got, no one can complain about that contract.

  414. therealsince86 says:

Ok, he can’t even bunt. Never mind.

  415. kingman 26 says:

    Great at-bat for A Reyes!!

    What a joke he is!!

(Please note that nothing positive about Slappy was mentioned in this message.)

  416. Metfreak says:

The Phillies are not going to lose but the Mets needs to keep winning and the Brewers need to keep losing

  417. SantanaCYYOung says:

this is a time when castillo SHOULD look for the walk

  418. therealsince86 says:

My question is was the bunt still on for Awful Reyes? Why do we keep bunting with 2 strikes? Are we that affraid that we can’t even make contact?

  419. miker94 says:

see, he should bunt here. for real. it’s an out either way, at least move the runners up.

  420. rockets212 says:

i hate when keith says reyes’s triple in the 6th was a game breaker, there is no such thing as a game breaker our bullpen!!!!!!

  421. garfios says:

This guy is hoping for a BB

  422. MetsFan4Decades says:

I’m actually starting to feel bad for Castillo……

  423. nastyslider says:

Castillo takes way too many pitches. Swing the bat for once!

  424. SantanaCYYOung says:

i heard the yankees might be looking to trade cano, any suggestions or takers?

    • therealsince86 says:

Can’t get him without giving up decent prospects. Our best option is to dump Castillo and Heilman and cash for Betacourt and Barfield. Let Murphy try it at 2nd and have Barfield be his backup.

    • Sylar says:

      Stay. Away. From. Cano

The guy is lazy, doesn’t hustle, and he was worse offensively than Castillo this year

  425. el_giacomo says:

at least he swung, i guess…an improvement. congrats, castillo, that hard work is paying off!

  426. metsmad22 says:

    yea luis! yea!

  427. WrightsRight says:

    castillo…he’s hopeless and helpless.

maybe ownership told Omar they would give him an extension if he cut his losses with Castillo.

  428. garfios says:

Castillo should be shot dead, right at home plate

  429. miker94 says:

see what i’m saying. that’s why castillo should bunt there. either way, he is out, no matter what…at least a bunt and we have 2 men in scoring position for wright. that’s on jerry i think. come on, you have to be smart!

    • miker94 says:

that’s the 2nd time tonight he was in that situation. neither time could crapillo get the ball past the pitcher. jerry should ALWAYS bunt him with anyone on base and less than 2 outs. i just don’t get it. the guy can’t hit, at least move the runners. that’s just bad coaching. seems like common sense to me!

  430. bittergreen says:

Gosh. Castillo is just awful up there.

  431. metsforever says:

as bad as Castillo is, Argenis really isn’t very good. that said, we know the record with Castillo. They are basically the same guy, but one has range.

  432. Metfreak says:

OK Please Bullpen grow a pair and go 1-2-3 PLEASE

  433. SantanaCYYOung says:

runners left on base, this is going to be a wild 9th i can feel it

  434. nastyslider says:

    whose pitching the 9th?

  435. nastyslider says:

    ugh Feliciano!

  436. racemccloud says:

    Here we go!

  437. miker94 says:

why feliciano, he walks the 1st batter he faces just about every time out.

  438. huge_mets_fan11 says:

Pirates seem very motivated to beat the Brewers, good news for us.

  439. racemccloud says:

    1 out!

  440. metsforever says:

Looks like Jerry is going all matchup tonight

  441. SantanaCYYOung says:

    huge huge first out

  442. MetsFan4Decades says:

    One down….

  443. garfios says:

Why he is leaving Feliciano her, he is going to get in trouble

  444. WrightsRight says:

gary should wait until the end of the game before talking about ‘turning points and black cats and black bats.”

  445. McVillesMet says:

Do you think the opposing pitchers are more relieved to be facing Castillo or the starting pitcher?

  446. metsmad22 says:

btw castro calls a better game than schneider….if he could stay healthy, he should be the #1 starter at C.

  447. garfios says:

    bring on the righties

  448. racemccloud says:

    Get Feliciano out of here.

  449. SantanaCYYOung says:

how does that find the hole?

  450. MetsFan4Decades says:

    Crap.
    NEXT……

  451. Metfreak says:

    OK GET HIM OUT

  452. garfios says:

    DP common

  453. rockets212 says:

im actually amused by this bullpen they make me laugh, its the only thing to do

  454. garfios says:

Now he is not throwing another strike

  455. metsforever says:

    Not good.

  456. racemccloud says:

You’ve got to be KIDDING ME.

  457. WrightsRight says:

    unreal…

  458. SantanaCYYOung says:

unbelievable, here comes ayala to give up a 3 run homer

  459. 911nafstem says:

    two batters too late Jerry

  460. miker94 says:

you have to be FUC.KING kidding me!

  461. imtiredofguiseppefranco says:

its come to that point where i can say strap in folks and laugh

  462. X-Man says:

You just can’t make this Sh….it up.

  463. garfios says:

You have to laugh, one out for 2 base runners

  464. metsmad22 says:

the shea crowd is the funniest crowd in all of sports……it really is

  465. Metfreak says:

WHY can’t they every have a 1-2-3 inning

  466. D-Day says:

god it hate this bullpen, this is just ridiculous! hold that extension jeff! lets see what happens!

  467. miker94 says:

i hate feliciano, he’s been horrible all year, he is another one who should NEVER come into a game in a tough spot.

  468. metsforever says:

    Here it comes

  469. 911nafstem says:

doesn’t this bullpen have a shred of pride? I mean, how can they collect their paychecks and look themselves in the mirror?

  470. D-Day says:

for the love of god ayala get the DP and be done with this garbage!

  471. garfios says:

I don’t know why he left it out there, he got his out of the night, JM knows they just good for an out

  472. The Slider says:

Man, I hated that Mike Gonzales on the Braves . . . until I saw him tonight against the Phillies. Man, I wish he was our closer. He’d be a big hit in NY.

    Braves win!!!!!

  473. huge_mets_fan11 says:

Nice, Phils lost, won’t matter though if we don’t win

  474. Dmak says:

    And here…we….go

  475. 911nafstem says:

Pedro Feliz walked. Again, Phillies are winning.

  476. SantanaCYYOung says:

    phils lose

  477. JoseReyesForPresident says:

OH BOY GET READY GUYS!!! THE BULLPEN!!!!!!

  478. X-Man says:

Are we really going to be happy with making the playoffs and getting embarased on a National stage with this ridiculous BP?

Ask yourself that question and be honest with yourself.

    Pillies LOSE!!!!

  479. SantanaCYYOung says:

smart play delgado, one out at a time

  480. racemccloud says:

Smart play by Delgado. Get the sure out. Braves win.

  481. rockets212 says:

    phillies lose!!!!!!

  482. WrightsRight says:

    bravos did their part…

  483. metsforever says:

Jerry has done matchup since he got here. I know these guys are horrible, but why is Feliciano seeing a Righthand hitter

  484. metsmad22 says:

thank you braves……can you win another one? please? for me?

  485. MetsFan4Decades says:

Holding my breath. COME ON AYALA.

  486. racemccloud says:

Boston clinched. Yanks done. I know nobody cares, but I do. I’ll admit it.

    • metsforever says:

Me too. I can’t stand the Yankee frontrunners at the office. Now I don’t have to listen to their playoff adventures.

  487. garfios says:

This will be fast one way or another

  488. dykstraw says:

    sox win. yanks ELIMINATED!

happy Y-E day guys. been a LONG time coming!

  489. imtiredofguiseppefranco says:

mike gonzalez shuts the door folks and we are 1 out away from being down only 1.5 and possibly being 2 up on the brewers, stay positive people

  490. 911nafstem says:

If the Mets could get their act together, I could see the Nats being frisky their last 3 games against the Phils

  491. SantanaCYYOung says:

    yanks eliminated

  492. D-Day says:

phils went final, lets get this last out please!

  493. 911nafstem says:

I believe the Yankees were just officially eliminated

  494. Dmak says:

    WHAAT IS KEITH SAYING

  495. Metfreak says:

Johan Makes me proud to be a Met fan again

  496. sandiegometsman says:

  506. imtiredofguiseppefranco says:

  507. D-Day says:

YES!!! DONE AND IN THE BOOKS!!! picked up a game on the phils, WERE NOT DONE IN THE DIVISION YET!!!!

  508. metsmad22 says:

johan deserves the cy young……lincecum plays on a god awful team……johan has had more wins blown for him than every pitcher in baseball.

  509. X-Man says:

Any doubt with Santana on the mound???

  510. sandiegometsman says:

Hallelujah!!!! OMG, they didn’t blow it.. That’s what i call AMAZING!!!

  511. huge_mets_fan11 says:

Wow, didn’t even realize the Mets are on ESPN tomorrow, nice.

  512. D-Day says:

yanks eliminated, phils lose, if the brewers drop this one to the pirates this night will be PERFECT for us mets fans!

  513. metsmad22 says:

time for big big big game ollie.

  514. bittergreen says:

Perez vs. Zambrano tommorow. That’s a game Perez will show up for.

  515. SantanaCYYOung says:

now we need to win tomorrow

… whew… one day closer to October or oblivion. It’s gonna be a hell of a week.

  517. kingman 26 says:

Great win, great night, and Oliver pitches one of his great games tomorrow!!

  518. nyj0126 says:

I’m in heaven. I’m in heaven.

I feel like the big guy from the Green Mile.

  519. X-Man says:

The most important score now is the Breers/Pittsburgh.

  520. metsforever says:

    Let’s Go Bucs!

  521. nyj0126 says:

I asked an 8 ball if the Mets would win today and it told me yes. I asked if they’d win the NL Wild Card. It told me yes. I asked if we’d lose the NL East. It said most likely lol I’m alright with that.

  522. therealsince86 says:

Momentum is tomorrow’s pitcher and I feel pretty confident we will get the win.

    • X-Man says:

Same here, But I’m really, really worried about Pedro.

      • therealsince86 says:

Eh, never know. That’s why Perez’s start will be that much more important. I think most would take being 2/3 going into that Pedro game.

      • nyj0126 says:

The rain will pour on Thursday. The rain will come down. And that black bat will make the rain pour in our favor and against the Brewers.

If we’re off Thursday, the make up would have to be Monday being that it’s game 4 of the series. There’s another rain out or two going on that day. We’d get big game Ollie for that day. No Pedro – if the Mets are intelligent enough. Would they use him Saturday? If there’s a little voice that says no, maybe. Go with Knight please.

  523. EV says:

METS WIN, PHILLIES LOSE, and the SPANKEES ARE OFFICIALLY DEAD, don’t get much BETTER than that!!!!

    • nyj0126 says:

Actually it does if the Brewers lose too lol And if they do, it’ll qualify as a magical day that I mentioned on yesterday’s pre-game board…

We’re 3 for 3 right now… I wish I had this luck in football betting lol

  524. nyj0126 says:

This game was so stressful, but amazing. Johan is worth every penny. The Mets are the true winners of the trade. Instead of being the Twins difference maker, he was ours.

  525. khmustache says:

DONE AND DONE!!!!!!!!!! SORRY DEBBIE DOWNERS, METS WIN!!!!!! METS WIN!!!!!!!!!!!!

  526. cousinrk says:

lets hope for an unmotivated Big Z tomorrow

  527. SantanaCYYOung says:

runner on 1st no out for the bucs

  528. miker94 says:

watching the brews game now, boy is their whole team just fat, and dirty looking and unkempt. scruffy looking bunch.

  529. racemccloud says:

I hope Mike Gonzalez gets to do his little snake charmer dance tomorrow. I love Mike Gonzalez and his snake charmer dance. (Well, now I do.)

  530. nyj0126 says:

Just as Gary put it, it’s the ”Black Bat.” It kind of sounds dirty though lol

  531. nyj0126 says:

Mike Gonzalez looks like a weirdo, but I’ll love him if he does it again tomorrow

  532. nyj0126 says:

Mike Gonzalez looks like a weirdo, but I’ll love him if he does it again tomorrow

  533. docgoodens8ball says:

Anybody else think that this team actually looked confident tonight? After the Reyes triple this team looked like they were determined to win. I didn’t doubt the pen at all tonight. Hopefully this carries over to tomorrow night, and so on.

  534. FlightFromHouston says:

    Great Win.

    Now Fire Omar.

    • X-Man says:

Too late, he just got a 4-year extension.

      • sandiegometsman says:

Dude gets an extension for perhaps coming up with the worst bullpen in history and having to fire his coach during the middle of the season.. That deserves an extension? Im stunned that this guy pulled off an extension after the Mets performed the way that they did the last 2 yrs.. Mindblowing..

  535. SantanaCYYOung says:

how does santana have 7 losses?

  536. thebullpensERA says:

    yeaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa!!
    “put it in the books!!!!’
if the pirates win I will cry

  537. cousinrk says:

Ha Ha, Kruk is so mad the Mets won and the Phillies lost he is going off on Sean Marshall for getting unerved by the fluky Santana batted ball

  538. X-Man says:

Big hit AGAIN by Murphy, that kept the ining going with no outs, that was key. Love that kid. 2009 Mets 2nd baseman.

    • therealsince86 says:

One can only hope. Two hard things have to happen
      1) He has to work hard all off season and prove in the winter league that he can do it.
      2) Mets have to unload Castillo.

  539. X-Man says:

The Shea faithful were brutal on Castillo tonight, can’t blame them.

    • therealsince86 says:

I have just realized it’s only tough love. The more they rag him the more they love him. I guess if that is the case then a couple of posters on here are going to be fighting each other for a chance to take him out for drinks tonight.

    • MetsFan4Decades says:

I’m actually starting to feel sorry for the guy, even though, whether coincidental or not, the record with him playing speaks for itself….
There is just no way I’m believing though he’s tanking on purpose. Anymore than I believed Delgado was first half of the season. Something else to this.

  540. nyj0126 says:

Luis Castillo can not play another game. He’s miserable. He has no hope. He doesn’t want to be there. Someone ask him. I know Argenis isn’t doing well, but he can field.

Give Murph the shot at 2B. And if you don’t want to, let Ramon Martinez take a chance. You can even go with Marlon Anderson or look for someone in the farm system. I don’t care.

    • jammer says:

i personally think they will give castillo a chance in 2009 with the excuse that he was not healthy. i think that will be a huge mistake because while he probably wont be as bad as 2008, but he will never be the same castillo in the early 2000s with the marlins. if he can’t hit the ball out of the infield and does not have the speed to beat infield hits, he is useless.

what i can’t believe is we started seeing signs of this last year and we still signed him. my guess is they will go with him in the spring and let him compete with murphy. if murphy can play just adequate defense, i think he will win the job and they will “kaz matusi” him sometime during the middle of the year.

  541. rM teM says:

next year Murph will be at second unless that stupid GM of ours doesn’t trade hime for a washed up …..I was going to say Dominican but I won’t so I don’t hear the BS.

  542. jammer says:

    yes,…mota just gave up a 2 run hr… what a loser :-)

  543. how do you fire the owners?

  544. gipper82475 says:

    dazed,

But Bush lowered taxes (Wilpons raised prices)….Bush appointed two eminently qualified Supreme Court justices…the Wilpons gave us Willie “What’s a Double Switch” Randolph and now a Castillo-length deal for Omar “Juuu know waaa I’m sayin?” Minaya.

    :-)

  545. dazedandconfused says:

    god will fire them!

  546. toomanyuniforms says:

    Buy the team?

  547. EV says:

    Second that Amen.

  548. nyj0126 says:

Give a kiss on the lips to Fred and got him to like it lol

  549. nyj0126 says:

They’re going to lose us. It’s very unfortunate. There is only so much we can take.

  550. therealsince86 says:

Read his post Sylar, you of all people already know this. It’s not worth ruining the blog. The only thing we may get out of it is having to see his incoherent garbage even more.

  551. nyj0126 says:

Like the Dodgers will lay down for them lol Don’t let him steal second while he’s up 10-0.

  552. therealsince86 says:

    Show some respect dazed.

  553. metsmad22 says:

yes we do……he has brought us NOTHING…..

  554. Airfeet says:

your really serious…we’re trading beltran to updgrade our BULLPEN..and replacing Manny whose 5 million times better than beltran

  555. metsmad22 says:

agreed…..the yankees would take him, and he’d love it there.

  556. Airfeet says:

WE CANT AFFORD KROD BELTRAN AND MANNY…WE PLAY ENDY CHANVEZ IN CENTERFIELD IF WE HAVE TO…CHURCH ENDY MANNY

  557. Airfeet says:

ID REALLY PREFER to trade beltran for a prospect and a RELIEF PITCHER…we need a relief pitcher more than Beltrans bat

  558. toomanyuniforms says:

He’s just upset that we don’t have the white guy carrying the Phils to the division title — Ryan Howard OH WAIT
