Quote: Manuel Pre-Game on September
By Matthew Cerrone - Sep 23, 2008 5:31 pm

Prior to tonight’s game, again, Jerry Manuel was asked about last September, to which he said:

“I think we’re gonna be fine.  Like I said last night, we have to win games…Call it the cloud, the demons, whatever name is good for conversation, but once the game starts, I don’t sense that (the players are thinking about it).  If you’re a fan, you’re reminded of it…We just need to make plays, pitch and catch the ball.”

He’s right.  Like I wrote this morning, “One at a time…Win tonight, get a better vibe going, and we’ll re-evaluate tomorrow – wash, rinse and repeat.”

For more from Manuel, including comments about what he expects from Johan Santana, tune in to SNY’s Pre Game Show, which begins at 6:30 pm EDT.

Today is the biggest game of the Season, the Brewers are gonna win at least 2 out of 3. We have to win today because we all know Pedro’s gonna blow it and nobody knows about Perez.

  2. dazedandconfused says:

Perez also has a disadvantage because the Cubs best hitters are all righties

  3. JefJarrett says:

They know what they have to do…..let’s do it.

    LETS GO METS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  4. Metfreak says:

Whoever thinks the Brewers are done have to be smoking something I see them sweeping the pirates and the Mets losing 3 out of 4 I hope I am wrong but why shouldn’t I think this

    • dazedandconfused says:

yeah but the brewers are not gonna sweep the cubs. Lou simply won’t let it happen if Cubs lose the 1st game that series Lou is gonna try for the last 2. If Brewers win 5 out of 6 we have to match that which is gonna be hard, but I still think Brewers are only gonna go 4-2.

      • ridethesnake says:

How are the Brewers going to win 5 of 6 when they have only won 5 games in the past three weeks? They are a dead team in the midst of a total collapse, which includes a fired manager and 15 losses in 20 games. Don’t be fatalists — that team is dead in the water. Even Pitts will win 2 of 3.

The worst part of this is every day is 3 hours of game and 21 hours of overanalysis. And yes sleep time counts, considering the nightmares!

  6. pedro4545 says:

Its going to come down to a one game playoff

  7. Nightlife says:

Especially after last season, I could care less what the players and managers have to say to the press. The media and some commentators here put way too much stock into it, whether it is scrutiny or praise.

Just go out, play baseball and win damn it.

    Let’s go Mets!

  8. mrose says:

i’m kinda sick of people saying that the Brewers are winning “at lesat 2 of 3″…

really? They did just lose 2/3 to Cincinnati, and haven’t played well All September….in the same way you think we will win or lose so many games this week, you can go either way about the brew crew too, play the METS game, f the scoreboard watching

    • ridethesnake says:

THANK YOU, someone else is realizng that Mil is in a bigger tailspin than we are. Pittsburgh isnt lying down, they want to play spoiler.

  9. MetsFan4Decades says:

Are you all about as done with all the analysis, sportswriters, baseball analysts as I am concerning the Mets?

It boils down to one thing: just win the game tonight. Then go on to the next.

  10. JohnsAmANIAC says:

Mets fans its gut check time our backs against the wall, again! But this time we have a stopper and that is johan today is a must win!!!!!, if we lose tonight its pretty much over the collapse will come to fruition. Zambrano and harden next this game is vital.

    • ridethesnake says:

I think that’s the basic sentiment — tonight we MUST win, and then the Brewer game will set up whether tomorrow is happy or just an extension of today.

  11. krispy644 says:

    sounds like a Willie comment…
and guess what…that resulted in a collapse. I cant blame Manuel for what’s been going on except for the questionable bullpen moves…this Mets team is PATHETIC!

    • JohnsAmANIAC says:

Jerry chose to put in schneider and castillo in last night, Jerry just as so many others in the team, starting from the staff to the players. They just seem so mentally weak there waiting to lose

  12. pedro4545 says:

Why are most of my posts not showing up tonight?

  13. Airfeet says:

There is NO way the mets are making the palyoffs

    • ridethesnake says:

Since when did this become a blog about predicting the future? This will happen and that won’t. If you have no real insight or original thought or response to the same, who cares? So in a week you can say yay I was right? Please.

    • kingman 26 says:

      Yes they are!

  14. Airfeet says:

By the way…Brewers won 8-1 the last game they played…we havent won a game since friday of last week…and we havent won a game by 7 runs prob in a month

    • ridethesnake says:

So I gues that makes the Brewers the hottest team in baseball, along with the Royals and Pads, who just won their last game too.

      • Airfeet says:

I didnt say that…i just keep reading how the brewers arent going to be able to win a game when they just blew out their latest opponent…and yeah…beating a team big is just enough to get someone’s confidence back

  15. pedro4545 says:

I’m at school at Indiana University right now. There are a TON of Cubs fans around here. When it looked like we were heading for a first round matchup with the Cubs a couple days ago, I booked myself a flight back home on Oct 2 through Oct 6 so
I can possibly get to Shea one more time and because I know I would end up in a fight almost every night during that series.

  16. J0eSmiTh says:

. no aramis AND soto tonight.

if we dont win tonight, with santana, coupled with the lack of two of the cubs two best hitters out, we dont deserve the playoffs.

    • pedro4545 says:

I have faith we’re gonna win tonight. But it won’t make me feel that much better unless its coupled with a Brewers loss.
