Completely agree. Any talk of trading these 2 cornerstone pieces of this franchise is just utterly senseless and ridiculous. You guys are bunch of J.A.’s if you think that would benefit the team. Apparently you guys have no idea how lucky we have to have 2 players like Jose and David that came up through our own system.

If we don’t make the playoffs, it’s not because of them. Get it through your thick heads, it’s because of the bullpen. I don’t know how trading any of our core guys will help our bullpen out. GET A FREAKING CLUE! These guys should be Met Lifers. Learn to love it and appreciate it. You’re missing out big time if you don’t

Also like I said the cubs didn’t trade, Ramirez/Zambrano/Lee to improve their team. They just went out and got more good players. We’re not saying switch out Luis Castillo for Luis Castillo part II, whoever that is. We’re saying bring in better bullpen arms, better starting pitchers, possibly better outfielders. Thats why I was all for trading for Jason Bay if we could have gotten him for F-mart and/or Niese, which I don’t think we could have.

But how do we improve the team, as it is right now, by trading Reyes or Wright? We could trade them for prospects if we were planning on rebuilding, but as far as I can tell you’re talking about improving the team now. Any deal we would make involving them, that brings back major league talent, would likely be a lateral move overall.

Well you weaken the team by switching out the best CF in MLB, or the best leadoff hitter/ top 3 SS in MLB, or the 2nd best 3B in MLB…

you DO, however, switch out a 2B who can’t walk w/o pain let alone run, a closer who we don’t have right now, and a set-up man who we dont have right now.

Ooh — wish I could be there (I live in DC) but I’ll be in an even worse place: Philly! (Note that not only will I be a Met fan in Philly, but my Chicago Bears — who are eerily similar to the ’07 Mets thus far this year, with fans screaming at coach Lovie Smith to “show some emotion,” etc. — are going to be gored by the Eagles on national TV. Fun!!!)

It is a little more complicated than that actually, Danny. If your core players don’t come through over the next five days, sample-size be damned, you have to think about fundamentally changing the makeup of the team. I understand that we can always just scream at the Wilpons to spend more money, and that a lot of people don’t want to discard their expensive Reyes and Wright jerseys, T-shirts and other paraphernalia, but if my entire team is a hangdog loser two years in a row, do I really fundamentally improve the team as a “team” by switching out a few excess, bottom of the order parts?
