I'd have settled for him NOT swinging at ball 4, there is no crime in taking a walk if they refuse to throw you a strike.

I looked at his hitting chart for the last 2 seasons and this one. While I agree it feels like he isn't going to right-center as much, his hits (at Shea at least) this season are pretty proportional to where his hits went in '06 and '07. This is why using your eye (and memory) isn't a very good way to track/measure progress...

I love David Wright, but you know, just once I'd love to hear him say something like, "I messed up. It was inexcusable." I'd like to see him get MAD when he screws up in the clutch like that.

Too often what we get from him is the sort of canned, "everything's okay, tomorrow's another day" response that everyone hated when it was Willie Randolph trying to sell it.

Because the truth is, there's no good explanation for the way Wright failed to come through last night. Man on third, no one out, and a whole GAME in the standings on the line, and he can't even put the ball in play.

Yup, I am actually surprised they did not intentionally walk Wright at 3-0. The fact that he swung at 2 straight ball 4's shows that he is trying too hard.

Nobody is mentioning that he swung at a 3-0 pitch in a crucially strategic situation. That's called trying to be a hero when the smart thing to do is take a walk in that ab because the Cubs mindset was to walk Wright, Delgado and face Beltran. Wright gave the game away, pure and simple.

Well, I think the team has finally done it to me. I've been drinking the Kool-Aid for the past 3 weeks. But to come up as small as they did last night, with the Phillies opening the door wide and the Cubs handing the Mets a housewarming gift over and over, I think it might have been the last straw.

I'm a big D-Wright fan, and I honestly laugh at people on here who want to compare him to A-Rod. Two days ago he came up with a huge 2-out, game-tying single, which everyone has conveniently forgotten. But David, your AB in the 9th last night was a joke. 3-0, if you're going to hack, you better hit the ball in the air to the OF. And then to turn a 3-0 count into a strikeout? You don't need the HR to win the game, buddy. Do me a favor, I liked you better when you were willing to hit the ball the other way for a single or a double, when you became a MORE dangerous hitter once the pitcher got two strikes on you. Can we get back to that please???

But now that I got that one out of the way, let's please give the choke-artist award to the guy who deserves it the most. Ryan Church. Because the only thing more farcical than a guy who fails to hit a sac fly once is a guy who does it twice.

Honorable mention to Ramon Castro.

The exhaustion of being there every night this week must have finally caught up with me, because I actually fell asleep right away last night when I finally made it home. After five hours of sleep, I woke up semi-delusional again. They are still positioned to get into the postseason. The Cubs will beat the Brewers, possibly twice. Philly will lose at least one game to Washington. The Mets will get their hits off of Harden tonight (weather-permitting). But will Pedro give them ANYTHING???

"I put some good swings on, but just didn’t get the results I wanted to get."

Then you didn't put good swings on them.

Heh, that's why I asked for someone to find data to back the feelings up... I feel that way too, but I'm not sure if I'm actually right or not

You're right. I don't see him going to the opposite field gaps like he used to back in the day...

but then again, you will tell me that I am imagining that because I have already set in my mind that he's pulling the ball too much... :-) lol
