Yesterday, on his blog for the Daily News, Adam Rubin wrote, ‘Surfing the Mets has learned that Jon Niese is the probable starter on Saturday, barring a rainout disrupting the rotation.’
However, according to today’s New York Post, Manuel has not yet decided on a starter for Saturday, adding, ‘Assuming there isn’t a rainout tonight, Manuel is likely to start Brandon Knight over Nelson Figueroa and Jon Niese tomorrow.’

Pitch all three… Why not?
figueroa is the pits, the fish would crush him.
The Fish are a strong fastball hitting team, and Figgy is a guy who throws everything with a little movement. He might be a better matchup against them than most teams. I dont really think its the best, but of the choices they have…
figueora is garbage, basically a righty specialist at this point. I’m not sure why people like him so much
People only like him relative to the other options. Its not like there is a good choice among all of them.
Figgy is a lot like Argenis — came up and surprised people, stuck around to provide much needed energy, but has since been exposed.
I mean as a starter. Off the bench they both have some value. (AR = defense and PR, NF = can get a righty out)
Good point, why not?
Exactly. Start Niese. Let him go as long as he’s effective, but keep him on a short leash. You basically go with a three-headed starter, hopefully getting two or three innings out of each.
What’s that old Cliche’ ? All Hands On Deck?
I agree — Niese showed he could go deep into a game if he has his stuff. Give him the ball and see if it’s one of those nights — otherwise, it’d be one of those Knights.
Sorry, too much Tim McCarver as a kid.
ugh…that was a perfect groaner, well done.
As long as he starts Martinez over Castillo and A. Reyes.
That’s it - keep those surly Marlins guessing.
I dont care who pitches they just better be on a short leash. the way i see it is we have like 20 pitchers on the team now and if it takes 16 then so be it.
The Marlins are an overly aggressive team that struggles against left hand pitching that changes speeds.
You have to role the dice with Niese.
In addition Saturday is Oliver Perez throw day
…if there is no rain they almost have to go Pelfrey, with Santana and Perez on short rest.
I’m all for throwing caution to the wind and putting John Maine out there… I’m sure he’d be up for it… His arms not gonna fall off. After the job he did in the must win 2nd to last game last season against the Marlins, there’s no one I’d rather see take the ball.
He has not pitched in a game in over a month, not the same thing.
I’d throw Stokes on Saturday. He has a nice offspeed if he gets his fastball over consistently.
Big game tonight for Big Pelf………lets hope he can follow up on his last solid start vs the Marlins…..oh and hit Cody Ross in the head.
He said he’d use Santana out of the bullpen right? I know it’s short rest but why not start with one of those guys, or two of them if one of them gets rocked and let Santana finish?
Well he said Santana would be available out of the bullpen I should say.
I agree, depending on weather, that you use all three if you have to.
They each bring a different look. If Neise can learn to throw some of those great curves he has out of the strike zone then he could be effective. He caught too much of the plate last start. You have to off the plate and in the dirt to get these guys out. Figgy is a breaking pitch option, knight fastball with breaking stuff and lefty Niese. Use all three if needed, give them diff looks, Fish like to swing for the fences on every pitch so you can get them with stuff off the plate.
