Note: We Are All Tied Up
By Brandon Eddy - Sep 27, 2008 7:16 pm

With the Mets win and Brewers loss, we are all tied up for the Wild Card going into the final day of the season.

Oliver Perez will toe the mound against Scott Olsen and the Marlins at 1:10 pm on Sunday while the Brewers send out C.C. Sabathia against the Cubs at 2:05pm EDT.

Both Perez and Sabathia will be going on three-days rest, however this is Sabathia’s third straight start on short rest.

It is all gangstas on deck tomorrow boys … LET’S GO METS!

Okay, just like last year on the second to last day of the season, we won, the team we were chasing lost and we once again controlled our destiney.

This time we have Ollie instead of Glavine. Will we score this time? Last time we scored double digits in the second to last game, but then sputtered on offense. This year we have sputtered on offense the last two games going in. What will we do against Olsen?

Lets hope we have a better offense plan than today.

    Go Mets.

    • WrightsRight says:

When did this team ever have an offensive plan? I never get the sense these guys have a plan. However, I do feel that they are do for a big, consistent offensive game.

    • jimyager says:

ITS ALL MY FAULT!! Im sorry, guys. Ibought a new blue and orange METS hat this year and retired my old ratty black and blue hat from the 2000 WS. Today I decided to wear my old hat and not only did we win, but, the Brewers lost !!!! I am going to wear this old ratty 2000 WS hat all day and never take it off. I will not touch or look at my new hat, until we win the WC!! LETS GO METS !!!!!

      • metskelly says:

Good, we all gotta do our little superstition things tomorrow. Like i need to keep a scorecard for 3 innings then stop for the rest of the game. for some reason everytime i stop after 3 innings the mets have won.

LETS GO METS! I BLEED ORANGE AND BLUE FOR LIFE!

      • baseballdad says:

I did the same damn thing ! I now live in St. Louis and in the stores all you can find is Cardinal’s s#!t.. So I still have the old Mets black warm up hat from 1999 or 2000 and decided to go old school and order an all blue hat like the one I wore as a kid in the late sixties. This morning my nineteen year old son said hey dad why don’t you wear you old hat to try and change our luck, and I did. So we all know what happened.

    • JMPLAYA92 says:

WHY NOT PUT IN JOHN MAINE FOR A FEW INNING TOMMOROW IF PEREZ DOESNT DO A GOOD JOB
      (KNOCK ON WOOD)

    • mrmojorisin says:

The Mets should play L.A. Woman tomorrow if they win as a tribute to the last great run they had in 2000. “Taking care of business” is nothing compared to when Mr. Mojo Rising was played, the Stadium would rock.

  2. PhilsWin says:

    Cheers Mets Fans,

Thanks for winning today. We needed that so the Brewers burn CC. Regardless, mark my words….your team will not make the postseason.
    Phils Fans

    PS. WE WIN NL EAST!

    • erik says:

Try playing a real team and not the Nationals in a park where my 7 year old son can hit it out.

      • PhilsWin says:

Hmmm…maybe your son should hit for the Mets. Actually, as a reliever he would probably be an upgrade.

        • NyXmets4life says:

notice how this site is called metsblog the site for mets fans and not philles blog the site for phillie fans

        • ridethesnake says:

Yay, we will mark the words of a faceless geek.

Hopefully you guys win a game in October this year.

      • MetsFan1976 says:

Forget about the fact that they are playing the Nats (and that *they* played the Marlins without Hanley). The fact is that the Mets won the season series from the Phils. So, the fact that the Phils won the division has to do with them winning against the other, mostly bad to mediocre, teams, not the Mets. They won’t have that luxury in the playoffs. Of course, “PhilsWin” knows this, hence his extremely insecure comments here.

        • ridethesnake says:

lol — he comes on our site to soothe his low self-esteem. Sad. He’ll probably come back to see what we all thought of his comment. Double sad.

      • JMPLAYA92 says:

        HAAA SO0O TRUEE

    • Johan The Ace says:

Go away you losers. You lost to us all year, win a playoff game first and then talk

    • magic00700magic says:

      And to continue the theme…

Just like last year, the Mets give the Phils the NL east (rather than the Phils earning it).

Phllie fan, thank our bull pen which blew 30 games (8 after an 8th inning lead).

Hope you like the gifts. They are tax free!

    • backinbusiness says:

Wait I forgot, how many playoff games did the Phillies win last year?

      • PhilsWin says:

Wait, maybe I forgot. How many seasons have the Mets blown the pennant.

        • Philnym31 says:

Does the name Kaz Matsui ring a bell for you?

        • WrightsRight says:

10,000+ losses, my friend. Most futile team in sports history.

        • backinbusiness says:

Phillies fans do an awful lot of talking for winning, hey, I just remembered, 0 PLAYOFF GAMES.

          DODGERS IN THREE.

        • MetsFan1976 says:

Phillies fans do an awful lot of talking for being the biggest loser fans of the biggest loser team in baseball history.

What can you do? Second rate team, second rate city, third rate fans (if that high up).

        • ridethesnake says:

Giants won last year. That was great. If you are over 25 you may remember the last parade in Philly. What a sad, angry, pathetic sports town.

    • WrightsRight says:

You’re welcome. We’re happy to hand you the NL East for the second straight season. We’ve been in the gift-giving mood for the past couple of seasons. But just like last season, once you losers hit the postseason, we can’t help you anymore. Which means you’ll probably lose….again.

    • the doctor is in says:

Haha you guys got swept last year by possibly the worst NL champ ever, which means you guys still havent won a playoff game since 93, go back to Philly

    • metz1 says:

thats true but lets see where they go after that.

  3. mistermet says:

Anyone know if and when tickets will go on sale for the potential 1 game playoff vs. Milwaukee at Shea on Monday?

  4. Todd Pratt is Clutch says:

lots of things we would have changed this year up until this point… But we control our destiny from this point on. I personally couldn’t ask for more. No more excuses. Win and good things will happen. Pressure is on the brewers.

    • Johan The Ace says:

God, how can this team kill us with the old mets in attendance tomorrow?? What could they do to kill us. The Marlins will be so damn jacked, that the mets may not be able to play to their energy. First inning(we have seen this be4) is HUGE

      • WrightsRight says:

We need Keith, Doc, Darryl, Lenny, Seaver, etc to give them a bit of a pep-talk before the game.

  5. TexasMets says:

So how much fun will the post-game Shea celebration be if we lose tomorrow? We’ll find out.
If it’s a win and the Brewers lose then the celebration will be through the roof (yes, I know Shea doesn’t have a roof). I’ll be there, so we’ll all hopefully celebrate together.

    • CaseStreet says:

I’ll be there tomorrow and was there last year, too. Tomorrow, the house will be rockin.

      • MetfaninFL says:

Hopefully the crowd is just as good as it was today. I was watching with my friend (a Marlins fan) and in the first inning he said “Why is the crowd making so much noise, its the first inning?’ I told him that its the biggest game of the year for us and our fans would do everything they can to help our team.

        • Gary Busey says:

          Wait, Marlins fans exist?

        • X-Man says:

The fact that you had to explain to your friend why the Shea crowd was making so much noise with the Mets fighting for a WC and 2-games left, does not speak highly of your friend’s intelligence.

Then again, how would he know what a noisy crowd looks like? LOL

  6. FlightFromHouston says:

how many pitches did Perez throw last time out ?

  7. mistermet says:

Anyone know if/ when tickets will go on sale for the 1 game playoff vs. Milwaukee at Shea on Monday?

  8. danlx13 says:

is zambrano really pitching tomorrow against the brewers??????????????????????????????????????????????????????

  9. magic00700magic says:

To be honest, I think the Cubs would prefer to play the Mets than the Dodgers.

As such, I think the Cubs will beat the Brewers. That means if we win, we play the Cubbies.

In a short series, I think we can beat anyone, so I think its follie for the Cubs to think that way.

    Anyway. Lets Go Mets!!!

  10. backinbusiness says:

If we lose tomorrow, folks at the celebration will have to sit there for at least an hour to see if the Brewers lose, thanks to their 2pm start time.

    BRUTAL.

    Get it done, boys.

  11. Johan The Ace says:

God i want to have that champagne celebration so badly. This team just cant kill us at the last game ever?? Can they??

  12. Johan The Ace says:

Id be shocked if D Ease was not in there tomorrow

  13. Stepping On Your Throat says:

    Forget the East!
Useless to make the playoffs now!
Can’t You see Your Bullpen Can’t
    K anyone in the 8th?

    You tried and failed.
    Only titles matter.
    U lose again!!!

  14. mistermet says:

What time is the potential tie-breaking game vs. Milwaukee on Monday?

  15. njmetfan111 says:

I am not a pessimist, but I would hate to see Shea ending with the Mets losing tomorrow. It makes me sick to my stomach. But again, I think that the ceremonies and all the festivities might pump the team up a little bit. That, coupled with the fact that if the Mets win tomorrow they will get closer to the playoffs.

  16. AWH says:

Boy, just like last year. The Phils get hot at the end and Mets fans, in their narcissism and self-absorbtion, go back to the empty canard that the Mets “handed” the Phils the division, or that the Mets “lost”. t’s all about Met fans and the Mets. No one else gets any credit do they?

The Phillies are 12-3 in their last 15 games – that’s .800 baseball. Seems to me the Phillies got hot and “took” the division from the Mets. Last season they went 13-4 in their last 17 – that .764 baseball. Oh, and that included taking 8 stright games from the Mets.

So……..let me ask you Met fans, and please be rational and answer not in anger, but reasonably:

The Phillies have beaten the Mets in the division now 2 years in a row. Do you think it’s remotely possible that the Phillies may actually be a better baseball team?

Is two seasons in a row really an accident?

    • Sylar says:

Last year, we handed you the division…

This year… you guys deserved it.

You led by 7.5 over us at one point, you guys had a lead in every month, and you played really well down the stretch.

Congrats on your NL East title, and your 3 and out against the Dodgers.

    • njmetfan111 says:

And also, I hate how everybody bashes on Mets fans. Met fans have a worse reputation then Phil fans, even though Philly fans are worse. Sure, Met fans boo like heck, but like today they will support you like no other people. Philly fans have showed that they are sports a-holes, by cheering when players are injured.

    • backinbusiness says:

Man, you’re right, it IS just like last year. 0 playoff wins for the Philths, I can see it now.

    • khmustache says:

      beerleaguer ———>

    • WrightsRight says:

You guys do have a great team and congrats on the division. You have some great, gritty, clutch “role” players – notably dobbs and werth. And your bullpen was pretty amaziing this year, to say the least.

But…. if the Mets had an even slightly better bullpen – if they were even able to save 2 or 3 more games, it would be a different story.

    • bkfitz says:

“The Phillies have beaten the Mets in the division now 2 years in a row. Do you think it’s remotely possible that the Phillies may actually be a better baseball team?”

No. I know Phillies fans who don’t even think they deserve to be in the playoffs.

    • cleonsvan says:

      No you don’t

see you in the NLCS loser

    • jimyager says:

Well, DUDE. First the Rockies got hot and won 21 straight games last year and made it to the WS where they where swept away bu the Red Sox, does that make them a good team? They got hot at the right time and took off. Then the Cardinals barely made it in the WC with 83 wins and won the WS, does that make them a good team? The Mets have lost our closer, half our rotation and 1/3 of our team at one time in the season and blew over 20 games with a 3 run lead after the 7th oinning and we still have a chance to win the WC, The Phillies, again, sneak in. Yuo guys are not like the Braves of the 90’s where you win the division by 15 or 20 games every year. So watch what you say. IF one or two games had turned out different the Phillies would be where? They have not proven anything except they choke under the pressuer of the playoffs. I hope that we meet you guys in the NLCS and kick your butt!!!!

  17. MyaGirl says:

If anyone has two tickets tomorrow’s game… Please give a call 518-708-1496 or email me at ETrain1969@aol.com

    Thanks,

  18. imtiredofguiseppefranco says:

2 pitchers pitching for $$$ tomorrow, should be fun. hopefully we win and everyone at the stadium stays and waits for the brewers game to end.

    LETS GO METS AND CUBS!!!!!!!!!!

  19. Queens Babi says:

for all ya phille fans…….go to hell!!!!

    • gipper82475 says:

They’re in Philadelphia….so that would be redundant, no?

      • wethreekings says:

        ZING!

      • NYC2Philly says:

That’s funny…because a record number of New Yorkers are moving to Philly, especially the downtown area. I know because I bartend and obnoxious Yankees and Mets fans have suddenly cropped up, talking about how they paid 400k for a 1 bedroom condo and it was a bargain.

By the way, how are all of those layoffs in Manhattan going? 40,000 on Wall Street? Here’s to your Mets making your embattled city feel a little better about itself.

        • christian warrior says:

I’d pay 600K for a one bedroom condo in Manhattan if it meant I’d never have to set foot in a scum pit of a city like Philly again.

Let’s face it, if you guys didn’t have the Liberty Bell you’d be worthless.

        • NYC2Philly says:

Enjoy the layoffs and economic devastation your city is going to face from the mortgage crisis. What did I hear? Oh yeah, NYC is going to face a record 3 BILLION DOLLAR loss in revenue over the next two years. Projected record deficits last year. Maybe Philly can send some money up there to help you guys out. We’re reliant on medical, higher education, and big pharma (eg. recession proof industries).

It’s tough to be a New Yorker right now, isn’t it? Your fans just looked like they were ready to cry on TV.

  20. Johan The Ace says:

AARON HEILMAN, LUIS CASTILLO, DUANER SANCHEZ AND SCHOENWEIS CANT PLAY TOMORROW

    • njmetfan111 says:

OP has to pitch the game of his life tomorrow. Glavine last year probably lost some money because of his last outing, but OP can cash in big if he pitches big tomorrow. Come on Ollie, you da man!

    • Queens Babi says:

i prefer endy then church honestly church strikes out to much rit?

  21. mistermet says:

When will tickets to the one-game playoff on Monday go on sale? Anyone know? And how will tix be sold?

  22. nastyslider says:

If Ollie doesn’t pitch good tomorrow he’d better not get resigned!

  23. AWH says:

Just as I suspected.. Many emotionally stunted Mets fans are incapable of giving another team credit.

Good luck to you tomorrow. May the best team win the wild card.

    • nastyslider says:

fine congradufukinlations!!!!! Are you happy now you bag of Sh-it!!

    • khmustache says:

“many emotionally stunted mets fans”…says the troll gloating on the other teams website. save your life lessons for people that care buddy…

    • MetsFan1976 says:

A Phillies fan calling someone else “emotionally stunted’? Talk about pot-kettle-black!

    • pedro4545 says:

HAHA. Wow dude you are pathetic.

    • cleonsvan says:

maybe you can win a playoff game sometime this decade before you go boasting…

I just hope we see you in the NLCS so we can wipe your sorry team off the face of the earth

  24. nastyslider says:

If Ollie pitches a CG shutout tomorrow I have no problem resigning him, it’s time for him to live up to his reputation as a big game pitcher!

    • Philnym31 says:

How about the first perfect game or no hitter at Shea? Haha, that’d be something!

      • njmetfan111 says:

Although that would be amazing, I’ll be humble and settle for a win, by any means.

        • nastyslider says:

Perez still has to pitch good though to get resigned, it can’t be him giving up 3 or 4 runs and the offense scoring 6, this game is not only about the playoffs it’s also about Ollie’s future with the Mets.

        • njmetfan111 says:

That is an issue for later. But tomorrow’s game is about the Mets. If Ollie pitches horrible tomorrow and the Mets win, so be it. And I am not ready to judge Ollie on one start. I mean, he has been very good for us minus a few starts like the one in SF.

        • andy92072 says:

Let’s not worry about the no-no-it will happen someday. I’ll settle for a win today-and CC running out of gas and the Brew Crew crying in their beer.

If the Brewers do pull it out-tomorrow should be very interesting-Pedro on 3 days rest? Or the great “undecided”? Ditto the Brewers with Suppan, Sheets and CC being burned.

Sounds like one of those 11-10 games either way.

          Andy

  25. wallybackman'sfire says:

I don’t live in the NY area. Is there still chance of rain tomorrow?

Am just thinking that if the Mets game gets delayed throughout the day, could it happen that the Brewers game ends before the Mets game?

    • Gland says:

Phillies clinch the division and on Beerleaguer one of the first few posts was about the Mets. Even when things are going well for them they can’t lose their inferiority complex.

      • nastyslider says:

I can’t wait till they get swept by the dodgers!

      • c.1970 says:

It took the Phils 161 games to clinch over a team with no LF, no 2B, no closer, a poorly constructed bullpen, an injured 3rd starter, injured out-of-position bench players turned starters, and a team carrying an albatross of a manager for the first 70 teams. I don’t know how things will work out Sunday and perhaps into Monday, but their arrogance is pure hubris—or just another pathetic example of baseball ignorance.

  26. Santana57 says:

Any word on possible tickets to Monday payoff with the Brewers?

    • nobeers says:

I went to the 98′ playoff against the reds and they were sold day of game when the ticket windows opened.

  27. MetsFan1976 says:

I posted this on the previous thread, but will try again here:

Anybody know if anything is going on at the stadium *before* tomorrow’s game? For example, will the fans have a chance to line up and watch the old-timers come in? If so, when and where?

  28. nastyslider says:

    A sellout crowd for the Phillies= 45,000
    A sellout crowd for the Mets= 55,000

  29. backinbusiness says:

    NYT:

The quotation, scrawled in blue ink, was posted beside the starting lineup, making it impossible not to be noticed. Perhaps that was the point. It read: “It’s time to be a MAN.” It was signed: “Johan.”

No kidding. You the man, Johan.

  30. SoDakMets says:

Wouldn’t it be “all hands on deck” for tomorrow’s game? After all, if we win the game, then the pressure is all on the Brewers. Add into the fact that the playoff game would be in NY and I say that we hold back two guys tomorrow (Pedro, Stokes/Knight) and make everyone else a member of the bullpen.

  31. GaryCartersHairpiece says:

If you told me the day Randolph was canned that we’d be in this spot, I think we’d all take it. I’m pissed about the division and I know we’d get waxed vs. Chicago if we pulled it off, but for Yadier F***** Molina, last September’s colossal bed-sh** and all of this year’s ups and downs (damn you to the hottest corner of Hell, Aaron Heilman) I need a champagne locker room scene. Badly.

Even if they accidentally showed a naked Ken Oberfkell…

  32. edwin nieves says:

Cubs site states they have named Guzman as their starting pitcher tomorrow: 0-0 7.+ era! Lou definitely does not want to face us in the playoffs, But we got something for Sweet Lou!!! When we face the Brewers on Monday, who will start for them? Certainly not Ben or CC!

    • metsforever says:

Why should the Cubs waste Zambrano? They won and deserve to set up their own staff.

Honestly, would you start Santana in a meaningless game (for you) with the playoffs coming up?

      • hotchipwillbreakyourlegs says:

agreed. it has nothing to do with the mets. The cubs have the luxury of setting everything up for the playoffs

    • cleonsvan says:

I hope its Suppan – pay back time

  33. wethreekings says:

Cubs are pitching Angel Guzman instead of Zambrano…
    Sh*t.

  34. Johan The Ace says:

Brewers have no starter for monday

  35. dominicanboy08 says:

guys, zambrano is still pitching, but he will pitching in the middle innings.

    • Johan The Ace says:

he is not pitching. Chicago tribune has it. Lou changed his mind and guzman will start and each pitcher will go 1 inning. all starters will play

  36. Santana57 says:

Anybody know about tickets for a possible Monday game?!

  37. SheaGoodbye says:

I have 2 extras for the game tomorrow and need to get rid of them!!! if anyones interested email me at haysj@dickinson.edu

    LETS GO!!!!!!!!!!

  38. christian warrior says:

    I love Philly fans.

Everything about them…their teams, their players, their city…screams white trash.

For all of your barking about the Mets’ shortcomings, let’s look at the fact that the big bad Phillies squeaked out the division over the Mets by a dominating 2 games. Way to go guys. Had the Mets been hitting over the past week, you probably wouldn’t be in the position that you are in.

None of it will matter, however, because if the big bad Phils have shown you anything it’s that they can’t win a playoff game. Outside of their closer their pitching is mediocre at best.

I’d like to say that I wish the Mets could meet the Phillies in the NLCS, but the Phils will probably go 3 and out against the Dodgers with 437 K’s.

    Go Mets.

    • AWH says:

Ignorance at it’s best. You obviouslly don’t know a lot about baseball. Do you watch games.

Mediocre pitching outside of the closer? Look at the bullpen stats. Look at the MLB player surveys. Johan was picked by the NL players as the top left hander in the NL. Guess who they picked as #2.

It’s just stupid to even make a comment like that.

      It really shows your ignorance.

On second thought, go ahead and gripe. You just expose yourself.

      • cleonsvan says:

you’ve already exposed your insecurity dude – just by posting here

      • christian warrior says:

You are correct. I don’t watch baseball games. I found this site one day and the people here just seemed nice, so I stuck around.

Maybe you and I could drink some Busch Beers together and you could teach me all about how great the Phillies are.

Just shoot me the address to your trailer home and we can go ahead and set that up…

    • andy92072 says:

Talk about sweet revenge-Torre in the playoffs while the Yanks go home after today. Nice!!!!! Now go beat Philly, Dodgers!!

If we get in, even better-it’s been 21 years since the Mets got in and the Yuckees stayed home.

What’s the Klingon proverb-”Revenge is a dish that is best served cold”. In this case, it’s frozen.

      Andy

  39. BBmetsfreak36 says:

does anybody think santana could pull off another bulldog preformance of monday(his throw day) and throw an inning??

  40. smm140 says:

i have two big ? for you guys…

Nick Evans is 6/10 with a 2b and hr and 4r against olsen. will jerry start him?

How hard a play will the mets make for CC? i think johan has illustrated what an ace means, and the best way to fix a broken bullpen is to take them out of the equation. with pedro coming off the books, there’s money to be spent, and i don’t think k-rod is worth what he’ll demand, esp after his overuse this year.

    thoughts????

    • Johan The Ace says:

STOP TALKING ABOUT 09!! who cares right now. we are playing for a pennant tomorrow. God. I would still play murphy

      • smm140 says:

you aren’t playing for anything. you’re sitting and watching, and nothing you or i talk about tonight will have any bearing on the outcome of tomorrow’s game.

    • metsforever says:

Can’t see it happenning unless they are prepared to totally overwhelm CC and Co. You have to believe that the Yankees are coming in high and heavy, 150/7 or so. I can’t see the Wilpons doing that two years running, especially with the glaring needs in LF, 2b and of course, the pen. Remember, the Mets need 6 new RP.

      • smm140 says:

i can’t see it happening, either. but it sure would be nice to have him going tomorrow instead of ollie. he’s just like santana, a winner who wants the ball, pitches deep into games, and can hit also.

    • MainStMets23 says:

krod not really over used this year despite the saves record…almost all of his outings have been one inning, his IP are at abt what his career averages are

  41. Johan The Ace says:

MILWAUKEE—After naming Carlos Zambrano as his starter Sunday and saying he would pitch an inning or two, manager Lou Piniella switched course after Saturday’s game and replaced Zambrano with Angel Guzman.

“It’s not going to matter because, well, it is going to matter but it’s not going to matter,” Piniella said in his best imitation yet of Casey Stengel.

  42. magic00700magic says:

So here is the big question…..

If Mets and Brewers both win, or both lose, who pitches on Monday?

Can Pedro go on short rest?

It would be Pelfrey’s third day, so he might throw an inning.

If none of the above, is it Niese? Figgy? Knight?

    • christian warrior says:

You would seriously consider throwing Pedro out there on short rest?

I don’t want to see him out there at all. At least not this version of him.

    • MetsFan4Decades says:

They’ve already posted it. It’s Pedro on Monday.

      • christian warrior says:

Well then let’s all pray that we can avoid having to take part in a Play-In game on Monday.

  43. metsforever says:

Whoever it takes. Pedro on a short leash, Pelf ready to go.

  44. BBmetsfreak36 says:

    btw…santana’s thrown 14 straight “quality starts”…
man i hate that term but the fact of the matter is its true

    Magic’s Sunday review

    Olsen (fla) v. Perez (ny)

Olsen had 4 starts against NY this year.
Florida have lost all 4 starts and Olsen took the loss 3 times.

Perez had 5 starts against Fla this year.
Mets have won all 5 starts and Perez took the win 3 times, including 3 wins against Olsen.

    Lets hope this trend continues.

  46. dykstraw says:

    omg

    that is all

  47. smm140 says:

why are stupid phillie fans on here??? their team just won the division and their first response is, oh lets go type about it on the mets site???? seriously??? that’s the most fun celebratory event you can think of? incredibly lame.

    • christian warrior says:

They’ve come to the stark realization that absolutely nobody cares about anything having to do with Philadelphia.

      It’s true.

      • Gland says:

I work in Philly. It has long amazed me how little the “fans” know about their team. Even the self proclaimed “huge fans”. I can’t tell you how many times I’d hear things in the office like “Hey, do the Phils play today?” or “Who do the Phils face?”. Not a clue. And they never knew when anyone was hurt or if someone got called up. So lame.

        • christian warrior says:

Just this afternoon I had a Phillie Phan busting on me because I was wearing my Johan jersey. I attempted to engage him in some intelligent baseball discussion, and I am sure we all know where that went. There’s a reason Neanderthals went extinct. Turns out that he didn’t know that Chase Utley was a LH hitter, OR that Brad Lidge had ever played for another team in his career.

Phans of Philly teams are sad, pathetic, little people.

          Who live in trailers.

        • MrDudeAndStuff says:

You’re making a gross generalization based off of a couple knuckleheads who post on a blog or few choice encounters.

There are just as many on both sides of the coin. No fan base is free of sin.

        • christian warrior says:

No. You’re wrong. The fans of the Mets are beyond reproach.

        • CitizenSnips says:

It’s strange how Phillies fans view Mets fans in the same light, though in the same token I have yet to see an entire stadium of Mets fan cheering when an opponent was clearly injured on the field and then booing when they got up and were escorted to the dugout.

        • MrDudeAndStuff says:

There are enough fans on this blog who have said things like how players should be stabbed to death for succeeding. I’ve seen that with Victorino, Dobbs, and Rollins on this blog the past couple days.

There are enough fans who go to Phillie blogs and like to gloat when there are successes for the Mets.

My point simply is that there are knuckleheads on both sides of the coin. I don’t sum up an entire fan base because of a handful of idiots who say or do stupid things.

        • nastyslider says:

Well Victorino and Rollins should be stabbed to death. lol.Not for succeeding though just for being D-bags!!

        • MrDudeAndStuff says:

Those kind of comments and thoughts are uncalled for and inappropriate, but you have pretty much proven my point.

        • KinersKornerman says:

Mr. Dude, welcome back. On behalf of the more civilized Mets fans, might I offer a begruged congrats.

The thing is that some of us hate that your team is a gritty bunch, and while we think the Mets have more pure talent, the Phillies don’t quit. That gets under our skin.

        • MrDudeAndStuff says:

I understand that a team succeeding gets under the skin of rivals. It’s the nature of the game, as we all very well know.

You know when I post here, it is generally to offer a counterargument to knuckleheads who say stupid things.

But I do read this blog very often, but post rarely, as I’ve said in the past.

As for your Mets, congrats on still fighting and grabbing it down to the end. I wasn’t able to see Santana’s performance, but from the highlights I’ve seen and the box score I read, he seemed brilliant. I won’t lie, as an opposing fan, I’m jealous you guys have him.

        • KinersKornerman says:

From a purely baseball fan perspective, it was masterful to watch. From a Mets fan perspective, it was inspiring. You could tell he was on a mission, and would not be denied.

Hey, what’s the feeling there? Would you prefer to take on the Dodgers or Cubs?

        • MrDudeAndStuff says:

Over here, we have matched up relatively well against the Dodgers, Cubs, and Brewers. Split 4-4 with the Dodgers, 2 of our losses being late inning bullpen meltdowns when we had that bad stretch. Won season series against Brewers and won season series against the Cubs 4-3 (another 2 were late inning bullpen meltdowns during that bad stretch in August).

So we feel we can match up well against them and have success against their pitchers.

I’ll be honest, the only potential playoff team that frightens me are you guys just because in the event we meet in the postseason, there would be a hightened sense of emotion and the games would be played on pure adrenaline.

It’d be exciting, but considering how you guys have done against us this season, the advantage weighs on you I think.

        • KinersKornerman says:

I agree that a Mets-Phils NLCS would be incredible. You have the luxury to think about that, but we still have to consider tomorrow. The Cubs scared me this past week. They are damn good. Dodgers are lucky to be in a crappy Division, and Joe Torre is not a good strategist. Piniella is much better manager. I hope you’ll understand if I can’t bring myself to critique the Brewers.
As much as we trash talk the Phils, Ryan Howard seems unstoppable. Why don’t other teams just walk him? Your starters are solid for a short series, and Lidge has been unshakable. I think you could take a Dodgers, unless Manny goes nuts.

        • christian warrior says:

          Pardon me while I barf…

Respect and Philadelphia don’t belong in the same statement…

        • MrDudeAndStuff says:

I will admit, it will be nice to sit back and relax tomorrow. I know you guys will be on edge and I totally feel you on that one.

All I can say for you guys is to sit back, buckle up, and just be concerned only about your game. As much as what you need to happen is dependent on the Brewers, the more you scoreboard the watch, the more it’ll drive you crazy.

The Phils have had a knack for handling Manny. I think a lot of that has to do with him coming up through Cleveland and Charlie Manuel. When Manuel was with the Indians, he oversaw the beginning of Manny’s career, so he knows all about him in and out.

As for Howard, it’s almost like there’s no getting around him recently. He used to strike out because he’d go fishing on bad pitchers constantly, but he has been so patient lately. Although Burrell has been so-so behind him of late, he still has the ability to crack a game changing double or homerun.

Apparently, according to Sportscenter, his September numbers have only been matched twice before, one of which was Babe Ruth’s 1927 September.

        • jamie says:

Mr Dude, good luck…I really, really hope we get to play an NLCS against your guys.

        • MrDudeAndStuff says:

No doubt it would be exciting. I’m sure we can both agree that we’d love to see it, but would be incredibly nervous if it came to that.

          Good luck tomorrow.

        • jamie says:

if we manage to get there, I’ll be thrilled; but yes, a heart attack per game.

thanks, hope we can hold up our end.

        • KinersKornerman says:

Hadn’t considered Chollie and Manny connection. Good point. The Cubs weak spot is their defense. I wish we had kept the pressure on by running more, but Reyes and Wright seem to get conservative on the bases at the worst times. If you can test the Cubs by taking the extra base, they can be rattled. You would have loved how Jose shook up Zambrano by faking down the 3rd base line. Next thing, Delgado gets a grand slam.

        • MrDudeAndStuff says:

Zambrano has been uncharastic of himself lately. He’s been giving up runs and getting emotionally shaken up over things that don’t go his way.

When we played the Cubs for the last 4 game series, we hit those starters pretty well. We missed Zambrano, but everyone else we did well with.

The Cubs are very beatable. It just seems MLB has a “thing” for the Cubbies this season making them. seem scary and unstoppable. Every year, there seems to be a team MLB follows closer then others. Cubbies and Rays I think are those this year.

        • jamie says:

the cubs are best in the league in deffensive efficiency, and second in baseball to Tampa Bay. I really don’t think they have a weak spot.

        • KinersKornerman says:

Defensive efficiency measures the percente of balls in play that are turned into outs (not including HR).

DE is dependent on pitchers putting balls in play. Dempster and Lilly are good stikeout pitchers. Marmol, Cotts, Wood, Dempster, Lilly, Harden and Gaudin all have K/9s over 8. So let’s not go too crazy about DE with regards to the Cubs.

        • jamie says:

well slap me in the mouth!

yes to all that; but k rate or no, that still indicates exactly that they’re one of the best in baseball at turning bip into outs, which means they’re an excellent defensive team (or reeeeeeeal lucky). they may have had less chances, but why’s that crazy?

        • freubr01 says:

Do philly fans really think they match up well against the cubbies? Z, Harden, Dempster, Lilly? Hamels, Moyer, Myers, Blanton? Not looking so good…the phils won’t make it to the WS because of 1 reason…Cole Hamels can’t pitch on 3 days rest. What happens if the phils are down 2-1 or 3-2? You think Hamels wants the ball on 3 days rest for a decisive game? Look at his era even on regular rest, its not too good. He needs at least 5 days…that will hurt the phils when they go up against the cubs/mets/brewers who have that ace they can throw 3 times in a 7 game series. If the phils don’t at least make the WS, it will be a failure…and think about this: they still have to pay Howard and Hamels and resign Burrell after this year…and their lineup is all in their prime now…its now or never for the Phils

        • MrDudeAndStuff says:

Not saying they will match up, saying they have matched up and matched up extremely well. On paper, Cubs have a great rotation, but the Phillies have hit it and beaten it.

  48. snowmanrt says:

I’d feel much better if Big Z was starting……Angel Guzman 7.04 era in 5 games…..must be nice for the brewers…

    • christian warrior says:

Keep in mind that Zambrano has not exactly been good as of late…

      • Salz says:

It would be nice if anybody knew what the Mets were doing with the playoff game… what time it’d be, when they’d be selling tickets, etc… this is annoying me!

        • kickingmule says:

It’s not what the Mets are doing – It’s a MLB call. My guess is that it’s a 7 PM game. Not going to make the Brewers play an afternoon game when they have to travel.

When the Mets played in Cincy for their one game play in 10 years ago, it was a 7 PM game.

Last year, Philly put one game tickets on sale via the internet at 10 am Sunday morning. I’d check the Mets Website all morning for info.

        • Salz says:

I hope it’s an 8 PM game cause I have a family dinner at 7. Argh

        • kickingmule says:

I hope there is no game and the Mets are on a plane to Chicago ! Would make the food at your dinner taste much better.

  49. johansleftarm says:

does anyone know what time the ex players will show up to the game tomorrow?

  50. backinbusiness says:

I seem to recall last year that the Phillies website said something like “on sale at 10am” and then those people who bought tickets that year from phillies.com (incl. me, who lived there) got an email saying, psst, it really goes on sale at 9am or 9:30 or something.

    Ugh.

  51. Take a deep breath and say a prayer.

    Oh. boy.

Ollie pitching for his life (and not to mention, HUGE bucks.)

I need to breathe. And not envision Tommy Glavine.

  52. nobeers says:

Looks like the Cubs are giving the game to the Brewers tomorrow.

I think im gonna hide in my closet tomorrow.

    • If Lou’s playing regulars like Soriano and Lee and what not, they def. have a chance. You know they wanna ruin a divisional rivals chance at the post-season.

    • nobeers says:

P.S. Angel Guzman with his 5 starts and 7.04 ERA is starting in place of Zambrano.

      • Sylar says:

Piniella said it was likely that no Cubs pitcher would throw more than two innings Sunday.

“We’ll have to pitch as many people as we can,” he said. “We’re in a situation where we’ve used six starters this week and there’s really not much of a choice.”

Guzman won’t be in there long enough to concede the game

  53. budkin says:

O Perez on the last day… yikes.

  54. ags412 says:

    Let’s Go Mets! Believe!

  55. kickingmule says:

If it was the Mets playing the Cubs on the last day, Guzman would scare you to death. Just the kind of guy who would go 7 innings and give up 3 hits to make it feel as bad as possible all winter. So who knows.

The Mets need to win, and take a Brewers loss as a bonus. I do fear the karma of a lefty making his last ever start for the Mets, on the last day of the season, with the last play-off start in the balance (deja vu all over again). If Ollie gets 3 outs in the 1st though he rates ahead of Glavine.

  56. MetsFan4Decades says:

Ollie can’t possibly pitch any worse than Glavine did. Key is we need to score early and first.

Here’s hoping Ollie gives the team a chance to get a day of rest on Monday.

    • jamie says:

sure he can. he’s doctor ollie and mister hyde. Let’s hope the good doc shows up tomorrow.

I swear, I’m prepared for ANYthing to happen, from a perfect game to 07 redux. I can’t sleep, and don’t have enough beer.

      • MyaGirl says:

This is what its all about. I’m 27 years old, and I have done it all. This is MY Christmas!!

Johan’s performance today for the first time in my life gave me chills while watching a Met game at home.

      • MetsFan4Decades says:

lol – I refuse to believe Jerry will let Ollie stay out there and give up 7 runs in the first w/o even getting two outs.
Or…I refuse to believe I might have to witness that two years in a row…

I hear ya – talk about nerve racking…..

  57. MyaGirl says:

I got my tickets tomorrow! I am so excited I cannot sleep.

I can’t wait to see my childhood heroes again, more specifically Mike Piazza. I’ll get to see the great Willie Mays live and in person. Tomorrow will be a day I never forget.

This is the 3rd time I’ve went to the last game of the season, when its for all the marbles. I pray they win tomorrow.

Let’s Go Mets!!! I still Believe.

  58. OrangEandBlue says:

It will be the Mets versus the Phillies in the NLCS this year. I can feel it.

  59. ih8olives says:

This is Sabathia’s 4th start in 13 days. He’s had 2 loses in three of those starts Pinella is using all his starters and no matter who he started they werent going more then a few innings and then turning it over to the bullpen, which is extremely good. As far as ollie on 3 days rest, he’s notorious for being a rubber-arm and he’s a big game pitcher (2006 playoffs, yanks this year, etc) and if jerry uses the same lineup he used today it will open things up. PLUS olson isn’t nolasco.

  60. johansleftarm says:

does anyone know what time the ex players are showing up to the stadium?

  61. MetsFan21 says:

I will say this… Whether the Mets win or lose, priority NUMBER ONE is the pitching staff and the bullpen. It will be interesting to see which Oliver Perez decides to show up because regardless, having a front row seat to see Johan toss a three hit complete game and man-handle Florida should motivate you to bring your “A” game and only your “A” game. Ollie – I hope you don’t sh*t come 1:05pm start because I do not want to see a repeat of Glavine’s performance last year.

The Mets would not be in this situation if the damn bullpen didn’t blow games against Atlanta which should have been back to back sweeps; and instead, the Phillies would be fighting for the wild card. Anyhow, I’d rather play the Cubs than the Dodgers… and let ManRam destroy the Phillies by himself. Besides, it is only fitting that the Phillies win the NL East… because once again, it will be three and out one more time.

  62. JoseReyesForPresident says:

THIS IS THE GAME THE MOST IMPORTANT OF ALL APPARENTLY AM GOING TO TOMMOROWS GAME AND WE AS FANS, HAVE TO SHOW WHY NEW YORK REALLY DOES HAVE THE BEST FANS IN THE WORLD AM GOING TO ROOT AND SCREAM UNTIL THE GAMES OVER IF THEY LOSE ILL BE DISSAPOINTED BUT IF I SEE THEY SHOW EFFORT AND TRIED THEIR BEST ILL LEAVE SATISFIED

  63. mrmojorisin says:

The Mets should play L.A. Woman tomorrow if they win as a tribute to the last great run they had in 2000. “Taking care of business” is nothing compared to when Mr. Mojo Rising was played, the Stadium would rock.

    • hotchipwillbreakyourlegs says:

I’m wondering the same thing. And will TBS show the ceremony (probably not. I’d guess they have 4 episodes of According to Jim fired up and ready to go after last pitch)

    • Tina says:

baseballchannel.tv (which i have never heard of before, but apparently mlb runs a channel in addition to the games) is showing it, it looks like. Right now they’re showing the post-9/11 game, and after the game today they’re showing the ‘69 win.

  67. SantanaCYYOung says:

i’ve been a pessimistic ahole for the majority of the season, i’ll admit it.

but i would give my left nut to see the mets in the playoffs with the chance to play the phillies in the nlcs

    • Ceetar says:

What would you give your right nut for? Triumph over the Red Sox in th World Series?

They’ll get it done today. It’s not last year, it’s this year.

As much as I wanted the Phillies to choke and didn’t believe they deserve to be there, playing them in the postseason would go a long way to taking this town back from that joke in the Bronx.

Scott Olsen: “Silence is golden. It’s not that good of a stadium. I remember Tom Glavine walking off the mound with his head down without getting three outs. Anything we can do to keep them from going on is our goal going in.”

    • ridethesnake says:

It’s also not quite as bad as your stadium, where it is always silent.

    • christian warrior says:

Given Scott Olsen’s record of success against the Mets so far this season you’d think he might want to avoid saying things that could potentially make him look foolish.

But I guess he’s used to looking foolish. He does play for a team who’s city could not care less about and plays every night in front of an average of 234 fans.

  71. ridethesnake says:

They should have Niese warm up alongside Ollie at 12:30pm. If Ollie gives up 2 runs in the first, out. No way you let him pitch to 9 guys and give up 7 runs. Not after last year. Who cares if Niese is wasted? Have plan B ready and loaded in the bullpen. It will also tell OP to focus.

    • stickguy says:

everybody needs to be stretched and loose, prepared to pitch. Except for Pedro and Johan.

don’t have them throwing in the 1st, but have them in the mindset that they are pitching, and to be physicially ready.

      • christian warrior says:

I guess I am alone in that I want Pedro Martinez no where near an important game at this point. I am serious. I don’t even want him on the postseason roster. He has done nothing to show that he deserving of pitching a potential play-in game. His 80mph fastball is not going to cut it.

If I were Jerry Manuel, the only way Pedro pitches in either one of these last two games is if we are up by double digits. Nothing personal, I’ve loved Pedro. But this is crunch time, and Pedro don’t have enough left IMO.

  72. stickguy says:

also heading out soon to start the trek to shea (from SJ). I really hope today works out better than game 162 last year that I also had the (mis)fortune to attend in person.

I really only ask for 2 things: good Ollie to show up, and the rain to hold off.

OK, make it 3: the Cubs to skewer the Brewers!

if you told me in april that the mets would be playing game 162 at home, with a shot to make the post season, id have signed then for it with no hesitation

the wilpons must be be estatic, they have gotten 2 consecutive years of meaningful september home games….

being a life long mets fan i have accepted that this tight rope act is just how things are done, never seem to take the easy way

NFL sunday is back page today fellas, its all about letting the mets AND shea, live to see another day!!!

NEVER SHEA DIE!!!!!! LETS GO METS!!!! LETS GO METS !!!

We be celebratin’ like gangsta’s this afternoon!
LETS GO METS! YOU GOTTA BELIEVE!
PS Those attending the game today; please remember to bring your Daily News and make it into confetti and let’s send the old girl out with a old fashion “Shea paper blizzard” a la 1969!

  78. Darth Manuel says:

Who’s Will is stronger? Thats what this ones all about. Do the Mets come out and rise to the occasion and oppose their Will on the Fish. Do the Mets allow themselves to become a victim? This single game will determine how fans will remember these players for decades.. This game will show us that the Mets do have GUTS after all. Cause this isn’t about anything else.

  79. NyXmets4life says:

in the words of gary cohen “it would behoove the mets to win today”

  80. danlx13 says:

i say that when the game begins and ollie throws out the first pitch, the mets should have their second option warming up in the pen wether it be knight or figeroa…..i do believe ollie can pitch a good game but after his last couple outings i dont trust it.

    • Nate W. says:

Tom Seaver should throw out the first pitch. And the next 15 or so…

    • Phillies fan 4 life says:

      Phillies Fan here,

Congrads on your win yesterday guys. I told everyone on here not to count your chickens until their hatched. Today is the biggest game of the season for your team, so lets see how they make out! If your team really wants to make the post season, today is the day to shine! I’ll be rooting for you guys. I’m dying to see the Phils and Mets face eachother in round 2 (I believe we have the ”new” Yankees and Redsox rival in baseball).

I totally don’t agree with everyone on here putting the Phils down because we clinched the division during the Nats series..That’s not fair, because we play the same teams through out the year, and we won it fair and square. I also hate hearing about ”our small ballpark”. It’s all excuses. Good luck today..Even though you really don’t need it, cause your going to win. Just make sure Manuel has a plan backed up for a possible Monday game against the Brewers, because that’s what’s going to happen.

Stop prodding. Your team is overrated. The Nats didn’t even show up to stop you. Your ballpark is ridiculously small. Excuses? Probably. Facts? Undoubtedly.

The Phils should have had the division wrapped up a long time ago. Instead, they barely squeaked out the division crown from a team that’s been giving away games for a few weeks now.

The division had to work itself out somehow, and it broke the Phillies’ way. But to say that the Phillies are somehow a better team than the Mets are, or that they are in any way more deserving of the division title than the Mets is just absurd.

  81. Nate W. says:

I’d like to thank the Phillies for sweeping the Brewers earlier this month. If not for that we might be looking at both of them one game up right now. So thank you Phils, but remember this; Next month is the month that your franchise cant win games.

  82. danlx13 says:

we would rape the phillies if we played them in the nlcs

    • Phillies fan 4 life says:

Here we go with the ”craziness” already…First of all, you should concentrate on winning these next 2 games, before you go into talking about the Mets ”Rapeing” the Phils. Like I said I’m rooting for you guys to make it in, and expierinece the celebration like we did. But we all know (and I’m sure you know deep down in your heart) that the Mets bullpen doesn’t have what it takes to ”Rape’ the Phillies.

      • rustyjr says:

FIEST YOU SHOULD WIN A PLAYOFF GAME THEN FELATE THE ROCKY STATUE THEN YOU CAN DICTATE WHAT WE SHOULD DO TROLL!!

        • Phillies fan 4 life says:

You know what? First of all…I’m rooting for your team. I’m not a ”troll”. Next time read my blog before you jump the gun, and talk sh*t about someone. I’m sure I could say ”Alot” right now to put your team down, but that’s immature, and dumb. Save your rude comments for a ”real” Phils troll.

        • rustyjr says:

then i extend to you sir or madam by sinceierest (sic( apologies

        • nastyslider says:

WHY ARE YOU EVEN ON THIS BLOG RETARD? THIS BLOG IS FOR METS FANS NOT “PHILLIES FANS COMING ON HERE AND BEING DICKS”!!!!!

        • rustyjr says:

hold up nasty i just read this guys blog – he’s ok – hell ive gone to beerleaguer to be a dick also – but this guy is benign

        • Phillies fan 4 life says:

It’s all good…Just because were fans of opposite teams doesn’t mean that were ”all” enemies.

        • christian warrior says:

You sound like a nice guy, but I still don’t like you. Today we are indeed “all” enemies.

And why are you on Metsblog again?

        • Phillies fan 4 life says:

I might sound like a nice guy, but you seem like a di*khead, but it’s alright to be jealous there Mrs.christina warrior. Once again..Good luck today.

        • Phillies fan 4 life says:

I’m on the blog, because my grandfather (R.I.P) was a huge Mets fan, which is why I have total respect for the Mets, reguardless of how much of a Phils fan I am.

      • danlx13 says:

first off…u r on the wrong website..this is metsblog

2nd…way to spell “raping” wrong…i guess u guys in philly never learned that u drop the “e” and add “ing”

3rd…we would completely rape u and u kno it..we raped u during the season and we would do it again in the playoffs

  83. mouserdz says:

    FYI

I called the Mets ticket office about the potential “one-game playoff” tickets, and they said they won’t release any information until after today’s game.

hmm, its looking like just another Sunday off day here at metsblog…

    • rustyjr says:

LOL NATE I THINK MATT IS WAITING FOR THE PREGAME SHOW LIKE ME WITH HIS SECURITY BLANKET – LIKE MOST OF US METS FANS – sorry about the caps

    • Gland says:

I know right. It’s not like there’s a big game about to start. I think this site does a pretty bad job on weekends. With all of the new ads and revenue he must be generating, you’d think that he’d hire a weekend person to put up posts.

It shouldn’t be asking too much. He kind of did pick a sport where they play every weekend during the season.

      • rustyjr says:

i disagree gland matt has a right to sleep in albeit – possibly the most important game of the season thus far – for all we know he might be at the game scouring the crvices for info – either that or he was drinking too much peppermint schnapps last nite :)

        • Gland says:

Matt can certainly sleep in as late as he wants. But he is running a business, and there’s no reason he can’t get one of his team members to put up a post.

I mean people are going to other people’s blogs to get the info and bring it back here. That should say something.

Sunday’s lineup: Evans subs for Murphy
    September 28, 2008

Here’s the Sunday lineup with the postseason on the line. It’s the same as Saturday, with Nick Evans subbing for Daniel Murphy against Marlins lefthander Scott Olsen.

    Reyes, ss
    Beltran, cf
    Delgado, 1b
    Wright, 3b
    Evans, lf
    Martinez, 2b
    Church, rf
    Castro, c
    Perez, lhp

LETS GO METS! LETS GO METS!

    • nastyslider says:

Honestly yesterday’s lineup was not much of a success why make the lineup so top heavy?

      • ridethesnake says:

I really love the balance this lineup gives them — I hated that 7-9 was so soft. Church and Blastro have the pop to offset Martinez (and Easley eventually?)… oooo, I like this lineup if Church has a good, patient day at the plate so much

    • rustyjr says:

if i remember correctly – WE OWN TAZER BOY !! LETS GO METS !!

  87. steadyeddie says:

Where the heck is Rick Peterson when we need him?

    • rustyjr says:

i have one question – i was at yesterdays game and they took down #3 and not number 2 anybody know why??

      • Ceetar says:

The same thing they’ve been doing all season. Reveal the number of games remaining, including today. They’ll then remove th 1 after today’s game.

        • rustyjr says:

ohh okay – that did;t occur to me – just seemed like they would pulldown#2 to reveal # 1 when after today (except for the playoffs ) there won’t be 1 game remaining thanks for the explanation

  88. rustyjr says:

guys i was at yesterdays game and all i can say is WOW !!! i was at game 6 in 06 the maine 1 hitter last year and scores of other amazing games over my 36 years as a die hard mets fan – but yesterday was just as casey would say “AMAZING AMAZING AMAZING !!!

  89. mrosey says:

“Go Mets Go! Go Mets Go! Hey New York what do ya say, METS ARE GONNA WIN TODAY!!!!”

(That was meant to be rooting for the Cubbies too)

    • rustyjr says:

why would lou put a sept call up to start today’s game?? its like he doest want to see the mets in the playoffs

  90. metsflip says:

I think I’m more rooting for the Brewers to lose than the Mets to win…
Because if the Mets let me down and faulter, we always have the Brewers to lose to the Cubbies and have the playoffs

  91. EliPorter says:

    can this game start already

    • rustyjr says:

i’m with you on that i’ll be off line at 11:25 to start the pregame with some brooklyn lager

    • nobeers says:

Sadly with the current conditions and the forecast we could be waiting a while. At least the Cubs game is on at 2:00…

  92. rustyjr says:

i thought they said scatter showers rain for later tonite??

    • MetsFan4Decades says:

For Flushing, I’m seeing rain in the AM, then scattered thunderstorms through the afternoon hours. Chance of rain: 40%. 60% tonight.

Scattered thunderstorms usually mean they don’t linger over the area long, so to me, looks like they’ll get the game in but might be some delays?

      • rustyjr says:

either way – could work to our advantage- just wondering if – the game is made official and it is raining – would they call it?? wheter the mets are winning or losing

  93. Maineiac says:

Can someone wake me up from this Nightmare where the Mets blow there playoff chance on the last game of the season? It’s like its on freakin’ loop.

And thanks Omar for our bullpen, we appreciate your effort in building a World Series team.

  94. rustyjr says:

ok guy’s and gals im about to wear a butt groove (damn your filters Matt!!!) in my couch and watch 6 – 8 hours (prob more) of pre game , game and post game spectacles with a beer in my hand all my mets memorabillia surrounding me and my wife looking at me like i’m a fcuking idiot ( and she’s also a die hard!!!) lol just remember my mets breatheren in the words of the late great Tug McGraw “YA GOTTA BELIEVE”!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  95. techwonV27 says:

  98. techwonV27 says:

I hope Manuel uses the same lineup as yesterday I like beltran batting 2nd and Murphy hitting 5th…
    LETS GO METS>>>

    • nastyslider says:

It is nearly the same but Evans is playing instead of Murphy and I agree cause Evans is 6 for 10 against Olsen with a HR!

  99. ordonez_should_be_in_the_HOF says:

Hey – definitely a desperate attempt, but any DC fans meeting up somewhere for this game? I’m thinking of heading to a bar solo but would much rather meet up. Thoughts?

    • rizz98 says:

I’ll be at 51st State, which is at 25th & Penn Ave NW. It’ll have the game & the sound on definitely, as well as the Jet game on TV. Look for the Mr. Met shirt, I’m trying to exorcise the demons from last year (when the entire bar was ready to hop on a bus to NY to strangle Glavine).

  100. imtiredofguiseppefranco says:

im so upset, i cant even watch the pre game. this is amazing. blacked out in florida

  102. MetsFan4Decades says:

    O.K., I’m ready.

    Let’s GO METS !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  103. nastyslider says:

Has anyone linked Perez’s recent struggles to the fact that Castro wasn’t catching for him? Yesterday Gary mentioned the success Santana had with Castro and that big game against Philly which Perez pitched was caught by Castro too. Hopefully the Perez Castro duo will be successful today!

  104. bvaz says:

this is the best way I can sum it up. all Mets fans were sick of the media talking about the “collapse” of last year. frankly, this could not have worked out any better. the way yo stop talking about the collapse si to have the same situation this year and this time they get in.

  105. TilMetsDoUsPart says:

    This should be our lineup:

    Reyes
    Castillo
    Wright
    Beltran
    Delgado
    Evans
    Schneider
    Church
    Perez

    • bvaz says:

      you know what? ENOUGH.
let the freaking manager of the team manage the freaking team.

and by the way, sitting martinez for castillo makes the least amount of sense of anything I have read on this site for years.

  106. Man i’m excited as hell, i woke up early on a Sunday! Let’s Go Mets!!!

  107. DavidDog says:

Ok guys, misery wants company, so in the hopes of making some of you feel a biot less miserable in these stressful, gut-wrenching hours, let me tell you a sad sad story. It is my story…

After watching practically every game this year from the first pitch to the last, I had to fly to South Florida this weekend for a family visit, planned and booked a long time ago. I got in at about noon yesterday, and I got to watch the game with my 92-year old grandfather ( …a Marlins fan! and although he claimed he was going for the Mets for this one, you could tell he wasn’t– awkward situation to say the least), with the Marlins broadcast to boot!!! (and the caption for deaf people clogging the bottom half of the screen… but at least thanks to Johan I wasnt subjected to too much of the infamous Marooney truck or van jingle…). This is where it gets good. Now that all our season comes down to this last terrible game (and possibly 2..), I am flying back today on a 2 o’clock flight, leaving the house here at about 10 to 1 and walking back into my own house at presumably 5 pm or so… I don’t think I need to say anything else, but I am willing to take your advice if you have any… My plan is to wear earphones, turn off my phone (i have many philly fan friends…), never look up at screens, monitors etc…. and get home and turn on MLB.tv on my computer and hopefully watch the archived game, trying to keep away from all other sources of live information. Rain, brewers, farewell to shea celebrations, and whoever up there hates me and the mets, seem poised to further complicate my plan…

and in addition to all this, I also wont be able to watch tomorrow’s tiebreaker tomorrow if it is at any time before 7 pm….

and you guys though this was rough on you!

    • bvaz says:

I don’t know what airline you are flying but I think jet blue has xm radio. I was lucky enough once to catch a fox broadcast on a flight on tv and other times have had the radio broadcast.

  108. BillyDeeWilliams says:

I have a good feeling about today.

  109. MetsFan4Decades says:

    H. Ramirez not in the lineup today. Hurt his shoulder yesterday on one of those plays. Just another plus…..

  110. mrosey says:

According to Mlb.com Gameday, HANLEY RAMIREZ IS NOT STARTING TODAY’S GAME. Alfredo Amezaga will move to short and some guy named Cameron Maybin (a sept call up who is 14-28 this season) will be CF.

The Mets will stick with the same lineup save Nick Evans will start for Daniel Murphy.

  111. nastyslider says:

Perez really freakin me out right now!!!!!

ERA: Current Month: 6.26 Last 30 Days: 5.40

  112. zen says:

    Reyes, ss
    Beltran, cf
    Delgado, 1b
    Wright, 3b
    Evans, lf
    Martinez, 2b
    Church, rf
    Castro, c
    Perez, lhp

    today’s official line-up

    as per daily news

    • Wright 4th against the lefty :o i dig…

    • nastyslider says:

This may sound weird but I would want Church in the 8th hole that will help him draw more walks and have more hitters counts, Castro is prob a better bet against the lefty right now in the 7th hole, but Jerry prob knows what he’s doing.

    • Phillies fan 4 life says:

I was just on ESPN.com, and your team is up 54.6% compared to the Brew Crews 45.4% to gain a spot in the wildcard. However it’s going to be tough for the Mets, and the Brewers considering if it comes down to a tie breaker game tomorrow. Who do you suppose will take the mound tomorrow if that happens? Just pray to God it’s Maine, and not Perez.

      • khmustache says:

probly pedro….congrats on the win (i know we don’t have anything to do with it….but….well you weren’t a jerk, so…congrats)

      • nastyslider says:

Brewers don’t even have a pitcher scheduled for tomorrow, but knowing them they’ll prob have Sabathia pitch back to back games. lol

  113. Nate W. says:

Cubs scratch Zambrano, say FU to Mets…

“Now, the Chicago Cubs won’t start Carlos Zambrano in their regular-season finale Sunday against the Milwaukee Brewers.

Instead, it will be Angel Guzman, a Sept. 1 call-up who has appeared in only five games — all Cubs losses — and has a 7.04 ERA in 7 2/3 innings.”

    thanks a bunch Lou…

  114. khmustache says:

    fonsie!

holy crap everybody i haven’t been this excited to watch in a game in a very long time….

    LETS GO METS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    dude…wally got fat….

  116. Johan The Ace says:

THIS BLOG IS A JOKE!! BIGGEST GAME THE FRANCHISE HAS PLAYED IN A WHILE AND THEY HAVE NO UPDATED THREADS

  117. techwonV27 says:

I don’t think they’ll get this game in time by the looks of it… I think it will be delayed about an hour or more meaning Brewer game and MEt game will start almost at the same time… By the ways why is Daniel Murphy not in the lineup… I mean come on I know Evans hits pretty well against lefties but take Church out instead of Murphy…. MET fans who would you rather have up in a big spot with men on??? Church or Murphy??? Murphy is such a better hitter it’s not even close… LEts go Mets….

    • nastyslider says:

Evans is 6 for 10 against Olsen with a HR!

      • techwonV27 says:

I’m not complaining about Evans in the lineup against the lefty.. My problem is having Church instead of Murphy.. Church can’t hit a beach ball against a lefty all his career.. Geeeeez play Murphy he’s a much better hitter than Church…

        • Nate W. says:

If anyone should sit against Olsen it would be Delgado. Evans at 1B, Murphy in LF

Murphy hasnt faced Olsen, btw. Meanwhile Church has two doubles and a single in 9 AB’s.

  118. Nate W. says:

numbers against Olsen. if the offense cant hit this guy then we know its the pressure getting to them…

avg/obp/slg (those arent OPS #’s at the end)

    Reyes, ss .438/.471/.719
Beltran, cf .444/.531/.889 (3 HR in 27 AB)
    Delgado, 1b .231/.259/.385 (our #3 hitter today?)
    Wright, 3b .310/.375/.759 (3 HR in 29 AB)
    Evans, lf .600/.636/.1.000 (6 of 10 with a 2B and HR)
    Martinez, 2b .500/.500/.500 (3 of 6)
    Church, rf .333/.400/.556 (3 of 9 with two 2B and 3 RBI)
    Castro, c .000/.000/.000 (0 of 6, 3 K’s)
    Perez, lhp .000/.000/.000 (0 of 4, 2 K’s)

    53 of 149 (.356 team BA) 15 2B, 1 3B, 9 HR (.651 team SLG%)

no wonder Manual said the offense should have a big game.

  119. khmustache says:

so if nolan ryan shows up, do you think robin ventura will charge him again?

i’m so excited, and i’m so nervous. please let 1:00 come already!

  123. Nate W. says:

regarding tomorrows potential Brewers starting pitcher.

Sabathia is pitching today (in case you hadnt heard….)

Sheets threw 53 pitches on Sat and isnt an option with his injuries over the past month.

Dave Bush threw 43 pitches in relief of Sheets, and he last started on Tues, throwing 92 pitches. (3 IP and 43 pitches is a lot for a ‘work day’ but he could come back on one day rest.) He allowed 6 ER in 5 IP against the Mets on Sept 3rd, and has a 4.97 ERA in five Sept starts.

Suppan threw 91 pitches on Fri (him starting on two days rest would be highly unconventional)

McClung threw 59 pitches in relief on Friday (He’s made 12 starts this year, but has been a reliever since July 21st)

Gallardo threw 67 pitches on Thurs (He pitched very well against the Pirates, but it was his first action since May 1st. He would be an odd guy to put your season on, but less odd than Oliver Perez in game 7 in 2006)

Bush or Gallardo seem most likely, but both will likely see action.

  124. throatneedle says:

LETS F-ING DO THIS GUYS! PRETEND YOU’RE PITCHING AGAINST THE YANKEES OLLIE AND F-ING WIN THIS GAME!
