      Ladies and Gentlemen,

This is it. Whether Hanley is in or not doesn’t matter. The lineups don’t matter. This is it. This is it. Game #162 out of 162.

We’ve been waiting aaaallllll year for THIS. THIS GAME! The irony of it all is nothing short of ironic. We know the story lines. We shouldn’t care about story lines. One game, one win, and we play on.

Let’s go Mets. Please, please please, let’s do this.

  26. njmetfan111 says:

All right fellas, it’s make or break time Part I today.

  27. rigsay says:

Good to see Evans in the lineup, especially with Murphy struggling a little and a lefty on the mound.

It’ll be nice to have Murphy and Schneider on the bench as PH’s late in the game……

Must bring Endy in by the 7th/8th for defensive replacement.

  28. Nate W. says:

numbers against Olsen. if the offense cant hit this guy then we know its the pressure getting to them…

avg/obp/slg (those arent OPS #’s at the end)

    Reyes, ss .438/.471/.719
Beltran, cf .444/.531/.889 (3 HR in 27 AB)
    Delgado, 1b .231/.259/.385 (our #3 hitter today?)
    Wright, 3b .310/.375/.759 (3 HR in 29 AB)
    Evans, lf .600/.636/.1.000 (6 of 10 with a 2B and HR)
    Martinez, 2b .500/.500/.500 (3 of 6)
    Church, rf .333/.400/.556 (3 of 9 with two 2B and 3 RBI)
    Castro, c .000/.000/.000 (0 of 6, 3 K’s)
    Perez, lhp .000/.000/.000 (0 of 4, 2 K’s)

    53 of 149 (.356 team BA) 15 2B, 1 3B, 9 HR (.651 team SLG%)

no wonder Manual said the offense should have a big game.

  29. das320 says:

    Let’s Go Redeem Team!

  30. nickc75 says:

You know whats scary, this reminds me of last year. The game before the last game of the year when Maine threw a 1 hit shutout and had 14 strikeouts. That was like what Santana did yesterday. And the last game of the year Glavine stunk it up for us and we lost. I hope Perez shows up, otherwise it will be a replay of last year with the Marlins. LETS GO METS!!!!!!!!!!!!

  31. imtiredofguiseppefranco says:

any time named for first pitch?

  32. amazin82 says:

Quick aside: Daniel Murphy has exactly 130 ABs this year. If he doesn’t bat today, is he still eligible for ROY next year?

    And

    LET’S GO METS!

    • khmustache says:

yes…see scott rolen in 1996. he broke his hand on his 131st at bat. since a hbp is not an “official” at bat he was eligible the next year (which he won)….so if drex doens’t get an at bat today he would be eligible next year (unless he played in a tiebreaker game)

      • mr.gee21 says:

Wow, I know tiebreakers are a “regular season” game, but no way they would count that against him, would they?

        • Nate W. says:

          of course it counts…

but its not against him. It just makes this year his rookie year and not next year. its not a good or bad thing, it just is.

        • mr.gee21 says:

Well, I hear ya’, but it’s always fun to have one more thing to root for, and rooting for a guy winning Rookie Of The Year would just add to next year’s (hopefully) great season….

        • Nate W. says:

He will probably PH today anyway. Of course if he walks then he still has 130 AB’s

really 130 AB’s is a completely bizzare way to count who is a rookie and who isnt… 150 or 160 plate appearances would make a lot more sense.

      • Johan sez U cant Hit my Pitches says:

the whole game yesterday i chanted for the irish hammer to just turn and acknowledge the fans and not once would he tip his hat or wave.. very disappointed

  33. NY Cuban says:

    LETS GO METS!!!
    LETS GO METS!!!
    LETS GO METS!!!

Come on Ollie, get it done for everyone who has been here for 162 games….LETS GET IT DONE BOYS!!!

  34. JefJarrett says:

    OK…………..

    Let’s win this thing.

  35. rockets212 says:

murphy has to be in the lineup he has been to good not to be there today

    • Nate W. says:

well Evans and Church hit Olsen, so your guy to take out would be Delgado.

I dont think you can do that though, because it looks like a bit of a panic move and as though the team needs to do something different today.

I think the same thing applies to Church as he is the regular RF and putting both Evans and Murphy out there is a very poor defensive move.

Murphy sits against lefty starters and is the best PH option on the bench because he can still handle a lefty reliever.

  36. EliPorter says:

    faux hawk for ollie

  37. Nate W. says:

very weird lineup for the Marlins today. Its sort of upside down as the 6 and 7 hitters are the best bats today. And why Wes Helms sits while Jacobs and Cantu both play is hard to understand.

    numbers against Ollie

    Maybin CF hasnt faced Perez
    Baker C 0 of 3, 1 K
    Cantu 3B .118/.150/.176 (thier #3 hitter today?)
    Jacobs 1B .111/.273/.111 (1 of 9 with 5 K’s)
    Uggla 2B .231./355/.308 (6 of 26 with 6 K’s and 4 BB)
    Willingham LF .350./536/.850 (3 HR, BB’s, and 6 Ks)
    Ross RF .360/.467/.880 (3 HR, 10 RBI!, 4 BB, and 5 K’s
    Amezaga SS .000/.077/.000 (1 BB and 5 K in 12 ABs)
    Olsen P 1 of 4 with 1 K

    Hanley Ramirez .267/.353/.400 with 10 K’s in 30 AB’s
    Wes Helms .273/.414/.409 with 3 doubles, 5 BB, and 8 K’s

  38. ccmetfan says:

Lets Go Ollie!!! Si se puede!!!

  39. pfh64 says:

Just caught interview with Seaver & Gooden…it suddenly struck me, wondering if things would have been any different for Doc, if Cashen had not miscalculated, and not left Seaver unprotected.

  40. nastyslider says:

    is there a rain delay?

  41. nastyslider says:

Jacobs is in this lineup cause he’s a mets hater and a loser!

  42. Those stats gave me all the confidence and hope i need for today. LET’S GO METS!!!!!!

    • Nate W. says:

yea, games arent played on paper but the Mets should win this game by 10 runs… hopefully the pressure doesnt get to them, otherwise they should knock around Olsen, and Perez should strike out 12…

  43. Gary Busey says:

    I HATE KARS FOR KIDS

  44. Nate W. says:

regarding tomorrows potential Brewers starting pitcher.

Sabathia is pitching today (in case you hadnt heard….)

Sheets threw 53 pitches on Sat and isnt an option with his injuries over the past month.

Dave Bush threw 43 pitches in relief of Sheets, and he last started on Tues, throwing 92 pitches. (3 IP and 43 pitches is a lot for a ‘work day’ but he could come back on one day rest.) He allowed 6 ER in 5 IP against the Mets on Sept 3rd, and has a 4.97 ERA in five Sept starts.

Suppan threw 91 pitches on Fri (him starting on two days rest would be highly unconventional)

McClung threw 59 pitches in relief on Friday (He’s made 12 starts this year, but has been a reliever since July 21st)

Gallardo threw 67 pitches on Thurs (He pitched very well against the Pirates, but it was his first action since May 1st. He would be an odd guy to put your season on, but less odd than Oliver Perez in game 7 in 2006)

Bush or Gallardo seem most likely, but both will likely see action.

  45. nyj0126 says:

Does anyone know what Perez’s season record against Florida is? Or what his numbers are? I know Santana’s were good and he dominated. Pelfrey’s were horrible, but he did average.

    • nastyslider says:

I don’t think he’s lost yet to Florida this season.

    • Nate W. says:

see above, I posted Perez’s individual numbers against the Marlins lineup.

and ESPN has stats broken down by team, you can look up just about anything on ESPN’s baseball stats area.

      add the ht_tp to: sports.espn.go.com/mlb/players/splits?playerId=5192

Perez is 3-0 with a 2.03 ERA in 5 starts against the Marlins this year.

  46. mr.gee21 says:

Finally, an ACTUAL “must win” game.

  47. losmets7 says:

This last series is way too much like last year. The Mets play the Marlins. The Phillies play the Nats. The Philies clinch the East. The Mets lose the first game of the series and fall 1 game back of something. They win the second game with a shutout that I don’t see but find out on mets.com. The other team loses, bringing us ino a tie. I really hope the ending is not the same.

    LETS
    GO
    METS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  48. serenitynow says:

hey, all. first-timer caller; long-time listener.

just wanted to say, “OLLIE, BOMA YE!” “OLLIE BOMA YE!”

    let’s go mets!

  49. Nate W. says:

why do the Jets continue to wear these awful alternate unis?

  50. mr.gee21 says:

Wait a second, I don’t remember a rain delay last year!

Guess this game really is different…

  51. nyj0126 says:

    Rule one Mets:

Do not give up a run in the top of the 1st. You didn’t yesterday afternoon and look. Get out on top ahead – even if it’s a small lead and build on it. If Oliver starts out good, he does good.

  52. nyj0126 says:

And a first pitch strike would help too.

  53. nastyslider says:

what time does this game start?

  54. mdemaio says:

The interesting thing with this delay is that it’s possible the games will now basically be played concurrently…

  55. JoseReyesForPresident says:

ARE THEY GOING TO HAVE A CEREMONY OR NOT?

I REALLY WANT TO SEE MIKE AGAIN!!!!!

  56. Nate W. says:

for the sake of baseball I hope that what Santana and Sabathia have been doing this past week helps spur a resugence of the use of starters on three days rest.

I’m not talking about four man rotations, or repeated use like Sabathia. But when a team has an off day Monday, use your ace on Sunday on three days rest instead of your fifth starter, for instance. This practice disappeared as the Braves of the 90s got older. Maddox and Glavine were the last holdouts.

Baseball would be much better for it. I hold out hope, small hope.

  57. blains2008 says:

    LET’S GO METS!

    LET’S GO METS!

    LET’S GO METS!

  58. WestCoastMets_since86 says:

LETS GO METS!!! Time for Ollie to come up BIG

    GO CUBS! GO METS!!

  59. nyj0126 says:

It’s more of a thing of been protective of health. For one or two starts it can be done, but if you do it for a long time it’ll ware on the pitcher.

It has to be done carefully. For example, Tuesday night was a night game and Saturday was a day game so one could make the argument Johan was on 2 1/2 days rest. It’s more about the hours of non-activity rather than going to bed lol If Tuesday was a day game and Saturday was a night game, more rest would be better.

He was in the moment though. It was an incredible performance. He should be entered into the Cy Young discussion if the Mets get in now having the best ERA in baseball, 234 K’s, 34 starts and 206 K’s along with 16 wins (should be 22).

  60. LL says:

I am so nervous I can’t even formulate a thought to post on here. I can’t imagine how these guys must feel right now.

  61. nastyslider says:

WHEN IS THIS THING GONNA START? HAS IT STOPPED RAINING?

  62. rockets212 says:

perez has an ERA of 4.34 over his last 4 starts and hes obviously starting on short rest so this offense better step it up and score a lot and score early

  63. khmustache says:

i am so amped up right now….my wife thinks i might actually be crazy

  64. thwebb says:

Anybody know if someone in the city with basic cable (no SNY) will be able to watch on TBS? Or will it be blacked out???

  65. KinersKornerman says:

This is great…all hands on deck. EVen at Metsblog.

  66. nyj0126 says:

This game will prove if Oliver deserves the reputation of being a big game pitcher. Not all big game pitchers throw their best games every time – but they don’t fail. They’ll always hold their own.

A lot of money is at stake for Oliver right now. I mean a lot. Tom Glavine’s legacy as a Met was completely shot last year as a Met. If he doesn’t give us a solid outing, the Mets may not have interest in bringing him back. Unless he comes at some sort of discount.

If Oliver pitches the game of his life, he may just get that 13 or 14 MM a year he’s looking for and if he gives it to us I’d gladly recommend the Mets re-signing him even at that price.

you know, piazza had better numbers as a dodger, but he really was the face of the mets for a very long time, and easily one of the top 5 most beloved ex-mets. it’d be a shame if he didn’t go into the hall as a met

  69. D-Day says:

i like the fact that we are starting at essentially the same time as the brewers. both teams will know what the other is doing at the exact same time. adds something to all of this (as if anything more needed to be added) LETS GO METS!!!!!!!!!

I’m surprised SNY didn’t put Beer Money on.

    BTW, that was sarcasm.

  71. KinersKornerman says:

This feels right. All the old Mets around, good pitcher going, inspirational effort by Johan yesterday, no Hanley, we can hit Olsen. I’m ready for a big win now.

  72. cheapseats says:

Can we please get mike piazza in that booth with those guys on a regular basis. He is awesome and so smooth in there.

Throw strikes Ollie. You shouldn’t have touched that ball. That has nothing to do with it. Get it done Ollie.

  115. wethreekings says:

I just saw that Ollie leads the majors in walks. Why do we want to resign him again?

  116. wethreekings says:

    Very nice.

  117. khmustache says:

    yes!

  118. BBmetsfreak36 says:

  120. nastyslider says:

LET’S GO ANGEL GUZMAN! LET’S GO CUBS!

  122. khmustache says:

lotta hard hit balls for the mets so far….that’s a good sign, they’ll get through eventually

  123. wethreekings says:

I hope Ollie has a brief bout of wildness next inning and nails Olsen right between his beady little eyes.
BTW, the Hoff-Power got a big hit. LET’S GO CUBBIES!

  124. WrightsRight says:

    need to score some runs…..obviously…

  130. das320 says:

Church is in some kind of slump

  131. nastyslider says:

Church looks so awful right no, Id rather put in Endy right now!

  132. WrightsRight says:

Church is this team’s Adam Dunn with all his Ks….he needs to get it together. He ALWAYS swings and misses at that pitch. ALWAYS.

  133. MainStMets23 says:

    GO CUBS!!!!

  134. Furioso says:

GLAD TO SEE THE F**KING OFFENSE IS AWAKE FOR A 3RD STRAIGHT DAY

  135. Big Gator says:

    CUBD JUST SCORED!!

  136. techwonV27 says:

Why the hell is Church playing over Murphy.. I really don’t understand this move… Church hasn’t been able to hit lefty handers all his career… The guy is a platoon player who SHOULD NOT START AGAINST LEFTIES… Come on Let Murphy play he’s a much better hitter…

  137. khmustache says:

i like that k….no nonsense, 4 heaters to the pitcher

  138. techwonV27 says:

Is it just me or does Church have the slowest and longest swing in baseball.. God this guy is Awful……..

  156. nyj0126 says:

score a run here mets in this inning. even if it’s just one. get on top.

  157. techwonV27 says:

aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaah missed the Doc interview…. How was the interview and did he look ok or did he look like a heroine addict??

    • wethreekings says:

He looked pretty good, actually. Maybe a bit twitchy, but he seemed alright.

    • khmustache says:

he looks really good. spoke very well and really gave a nice interview.

man, wasted a good ollie bunt

    • MetsFan4Decades says:

No, he looked fine. Matt asked him how his personal life was going, he talked about young kids and the sports they’re playing. Said he was doing fine.
However, Seaver monopolized much of the interview between the two of them. Seaver just likes to talk….

  158. nastyslider says:

    YEAH SHREK!!

  159. wethreekings says:

    Aight Fidel!

  160. Big Gator says:

Gotta get some runs this inning folks

  161. nastyslider says:

    ah not a good bunt!

  162. wethreekings says:

    Awful bunt.

  163. BBmetsfreak36 says:

this is why castro chouldnt bat 8th!!

  164. MetsFan4Decades says:

I seem to be saying this every game but NO ONE on this team can bunt worth a damn other than Endy and Pedro.
    Sigh….

  165. nastyslider says:

    STUPID REYES!!!!!!!

  166. das320 says:

    Wow. C’mon Jose

  167. MainStMets23 says:

olsen has thrown a ton of pitches already,no?

  168. wethreekings says:

    Cmon Clutchtron!

  169. rockets212 says:

unbelievable reyes swung at ball 4 twice

  170. wethreekings says:

    I despise Cody Ross.

    • khmustache says:

      join the club……total punk

      • wethreekings says:

Describes most of the Marlins, I’d say. Why is it that the only two Marlins that seem like decent people are the only ones that are any good (Uggla and Ramirez)?

  171. khmustache says:

    dang….

  172. nastyslider says:

WHY CAN’T WE SCORE ANY RUNS!!!!!!!!??!?!?!?!?!?!?!!?!?!?!?!

  173. WrightsRight says:

jeez….they should be pounding this clay aiken lookalike.

  174. TurboDan says:

Ugh. Offense is asleep for yet another game. We better get something going soon offensively, Ollie looks like he could have “that inning” eventually today. Then we get the pen.

  175. das320 says:

Carlos Voltron has had some good cuts, but nothing to show for it so far

  176. nastyslider says:

WHAT WAS THE POINT OF GETTING RID OF GUZMAN HE WAS PITCHING GREAT!

  177. techwonV27 says:

Thanks for the reply on Doc… It’s great to hear he’s doing good… Good for him… Hopefully, he got rid of all his demons and he can live a good solid life…. By the ways this kid Olson is really dealing hitting the corners and mixing speeds… LETS GO METS>>>>>>>>>>>

  178. das320 says:

So Chad Gaudin is pitching for the Cubs instead of Big Z

  179. WrightsRight says:

Offense needs to wake up. They’re major leaguers on the verge of 90 wins. And offensive slump should not last this long. They need to get it together soon. Not sure how long OP can hold on against these Rob Deer wannabees.

    • rockets212 says:

hopefully pitching can get us to october baseball and the offense can get us deep into october baseball

  180. rockets212 says:

hes got a good slider tonight

  181. Furioso says:

Game # 3 of this series

AND THE OFFENSE HASN’T SHOWN UP YET.

Reyes is the most worthless piece of sh*t.

    “Sparkplug” my azz.

  182. Big Gator says:

can pls somebody tell me why these guys rarely showup when it counts?

  183. das320 says:

Maybe Ollie should pitch on 3 days rest all of the time

  184. rockets212 says:

keep it up perez!!!!! another short rest complete game

  185. wethreekings says:

Alright, I have a good feeling about this inning.

  186. MetsFan4Decades says:

O.K., Ollie getting it done so far.
How about the offense stepping up now?

  187. Mets Fan on Wall St. says:

Cubs out of the 3rd. Please help us out guys, you’ve been doing a good job getting baserunners on.

  188. dominicanboy08 says:

    man, we really miss tatis..

  189. Furioso says:

Score a couple early runs and the Fish would pack it in

NOW THEY’RE IN IT TO WIN IT

GREAT JOB F**KING LOSER METS OFFENSE

    SCORE SOME GAWDAMNNNN RUNS ALREADY

  190. WrightsRight says:

Big inning….need some runs….if I say it enough maybe it will happen. I also need to get a helmet because Church’s long swing almost hit me in the head.

  191. khmustache says:

wonder if bloomberg took the 7 train to the game…

  192. wethreekings says:

Man, we are hitting everything hard, but nothing’s getting through.

  193. Furioso says:

    GREAT JOB OFFENSE / SARCASM

    YOU FRICKING LOSERS

  194. rockets212 says:

in his 3rd at bat delgado better drop a bunt down the 3rd base line

  195. nastyslider says:

THIS OFFENSE IS PATHETIC TODAY AND FOR THIS WHOLE SERIES!!!!!!!

  196. Mets Fan on Wall St. says:

    Baserunners, anybody seem them?

  197. WrightsRight says:

c’mon guys, this is ridiculous. need to be patient.

  198. smm140 says:

    this is truly pathetic

  199. rockets212 says:

hey stop worrying were going to get it done this isnt 07

  200. Furioso says:

THESE PIECES OF SH*T DIDN’T EVEN MAKE HIM WORK THAT INNING.

    F**K IT.

    GO FISH!
    GO BREWERS!
    F**K METS

THEY CAN’T BOTHER TO SHOW UP, I GUESS NEITHER CAN I

  201. nyj0126 says:

This can not be happening. Of any time when you can’t score, why not? Because the Marlins haven’t scored? I’m guessing this pitcher’s supposed to be having a brilliant performance likewise to Odalis Perez, John Lannon and what ever other medicority that’s been throw at us.

Score some freaking runs Mets. You’re getting what you need from Oliver. Now show your damn appreciation.

  202. WrightsRight says:

This will come back to haunt us big-time. They can’t wait until it’s too late. They know Olsen well. They own him. This should not be hard. It is a gift that he’s pitching. A gift.

  203. Johan sez U cant Hit my Pitches says:

    thats not cool man…not cool

  204. MetsFan4Decades says:

It is so eerie that if Reyes doesn’t get on, the whole offense goes to sleep behind him.

    • WrightsRight says:

no kidding. i mean, do they know it IS all right for them to get hits and score runs around Jose.

  205. edwin nieves says:

They have to leave it all on the field today. We need quality at bats.

  206. WrightsRight says:

mets need to start wearing war paint on their face

  207. Big Gator says:

    Ollies gangster so far folks!!

  208. wethreekings says:

    Big Game Ollie!

  209. DeantheLiLc says:

ehh wonder what kind of sugar keith was talking bout.lol

  210. Johan sez U cant Hit my Pitches says:

someone needs to get a taser on scott olsen

  211. Johan sez U cant Hit my Pitches says:

the one that “accidently” stays on his stache

  212. njmetfan111 says:

The Mets O is really pissing me off. Come on guys, lets fight through this. This might be one of the bigger games you will play in your whole life.

  213. khmustache says:

    OLLIE!!!!!

  214. Furioso says:

NOW SCORE SOME GAWDDAMMM RUNS YOU LOSER PIECES OF GARBAGE

  215. MetsFan4Decades says:

    Ollie looking great.
NOW WHERE IS THE OFFENSE ?????

  216. das320 says:

    Ollie is doing great!

  217. metsforever says:

The boys look tight at the plate. Not a surprise, but could be a problem.

  218. WrightsRight says:

they way OP is pitching, this offense owes him better. They need to get their act together NOW.

  219. Mets Fan on Wall St. says:

C’mon bats, this is the 2nd straight game you’re getting ace quality pitching you need to start doing your part.

  220. nastyslider says:

it’s a shame that our offense is sleeping when Perez is giving a quality start

  221. metsforever says:

Looks like the Cubs are going 1 inning each for the staff. Cotts now in.

  222. rockets212 says:

on a good note the brewers offense is looking about as bad as ours

  223. wethreekings says:

Ollie is winning me over today.

  224. Johan sez U cant Hit my Pitches says:

i think the bottom half of the order will come up big now

  225. metsfaninmd says:

I like Amezaga’s Joker Halloween costume. He’s spooky.

Seriously guys score some runs. You cant expect your starters to throw shutouts every day.

  226. metsforever says:

    Cubs through 4

  227. nastyslider says:

tell these mutts to stop being so agressive!

  228. Furioso says:

    CHOKERS

  229. metsforever says:

These guys look like they’re phoning in an early April night game. Where is the gangsta?

  230. Johan sez U cant Hit my Pitches says:

why cant they take some pitches… and when they finally do its strike 3

  231. Furioso says:

    THESE AB’S AREN’T EVEN COMPETITIVE

    PIECES OF CHOKING GARBAGE

  232. wethreekings says:

    Church looks AWFUL.

  233. nastyslider says:

Does anyone else think that resigning church might not be such a good idea?

  234. WrightsRight says:

church is ridiculously bad right now.

  235. metsforever says:

Church really needs to grab some bench. Unfortunately, there is nobody else to put in there

  236. Johan sez U cant Hit my Pitches says:

maybe ramon could be like the 2008 version of todd pratt

  237. smm140 says:

    their apparent plan against olsen:
    1) watch first pitch 88 mph fastball right down middle
    2) swing at next pitch outside of zone
    3) sit down on bench

  238. nyj0126 says:

So let me guess – Ollie will earn a huge check and the Mets still may not win this game? Score a run. My lord. Just do it.

  239. Furioso says:

OFFENSE JUST MAILING IT IN FOR THE 3RD DAY IN A ROW…..YEAH, THIS IS A TEAM FULL OF CLUTCH PLAYERS

WHAT A BUNCH OF B*TCHES THIS OFFENSE IS

  240. nyj0126 says:

What’s Ollie and Olsen’s pitch counts?

  241. metsforever says:

Koufax is making this look easy.

  242. Furioso says:

    NOT
    EVEN
    COMPETITIVE

    CHOKERS

    GO FISH
    GO BREWS
    F**K METS

  243. wethreekings says:

Next inning, I’m calling it now. We’ll score.

    • rockets212 says:

ummm if perez made 3rd out id agree but were basically playing with 2 outs next inning

      • wethreekings says:

Hey, who knows. I seriously doubt Olsen’s gonna get Reyes out 3 times in a row. But who knows. LETS GO METS!

  244. WrightsRight says:

    bad inning

  245. wildgeneral says:

This next inning is huge for Ollie…top of the order, 3rd time through the lineup. If he can make it through these top 4-5 guys without trouble, he’s (and the Mets are) golden.

The Mets’ bats won’t be dead all day…they will hit.

    Ya just gotta believe.

  246. DeantheLiLc says:

relax relax plenty of ball to be played yet

  247. Johan sez U cant Hit my Pitches says:

    this just in…

on his last pitch sabathia’s arm just fell off

  248. edwin nieves says:

Just the fact that Ollie is pitching a hell of a game and the brewers are losing enough to ignite this team? By the way Church is hurting us big time at the plate!

  249. Two-By-Four says:

I guess it’s appropriate that the Mets are hitting like the 1964 Mets.

  250. metsforever says:

Must be the curse of Shea. The Jets are choking too. Up 34-0, now 34-21

  251. khmustache says:

wow….scott olsen really does look like clay aiken

  252. WrightsRight says:

i guess the mets are too much of pacifists. I mean, if anyone saw Olsen’s quotes they would want to thoroughly destroy the marlins and make that criminal twerp sulk his way back to the dugout.

  253. wethreekings says:

    Oh snap.

  254. rockets212 says:

sabathia is settled down we need to win!!!!!

  255. metsforever says:

    Uh oh

  256. MetsFan4Decades says:

Yup, knew that was coming, WHICH IS WHY WE NEED RUNS.

  257. nastyslider says:

    season over!

  258. edwin nieves says:

Yeah well the Mets should be kicking him up his Aiken arce.(no pun intended)

  259. casey s. says:

    here we go…come on ollie..

  260. WrightsRight says:

and THAT is why you can’t sleepwalk through a game and you have to start executing. It’s around the 5th inning and that is when OP traditionally becomes shaky. Offense needs to grow a collective sack and start executing immediately (he says for the 5th consec inning).

  261. wethreekings says:

    Crap.

  262. metsforever says:

And that may just about do it.

  263. khmustache says:

    damn damn

  264. nastyslider says:

    yeah season over!

  265. WrightsRight says:

ALLL ON THE OFFENSE NOW. Olsen is a gift for these guys and they’re not even opening it.

  266. Big Gator says:

This is when i start getting mad

  267. wethreekings says:

Maybe this will spark the offense.

  268. metsforever says:

This is where Ollie traditionally falls apart, and this team can’t hit a lick. Look for the Brewers to score this inning.

  269. nyj0126 says:

    Trade the entire line up.

    What a bunch of crunchers…

This isn’t Oliver. He’s thrown great. This is the Mets offense. You can’t give the man one run?

  270. FireOmar says:

    I need some TUMS.

  271. MetsFan4Decades says:

If it does wind up having to play a tie breaker game tomorrow, it’ll come down to which team has the worst offense – more than anything else….

  272. Ellen says:

Crap. This can’t be happening. Come on Ollie – toughen up!

  273. lambay says:

oh boy! there goes Perez’s concentration

  274. rockets212 says:

get the pen up!!!!!! 3 days rest means ollie cant go as far jerry needs a short leash for him

  275. metsforever says:

I hate to even suggest it, but Jerry may have to go to the pen here. We all know what happens when Ollie starts to go bad.

  276. MetsFan4Decades says:

And if we had any kind of BP, Ollie would be out of there now.

  277. FireOmar says:

    Let’s stop the bleed here!

  278. nyj0126 says:

    When it rains, it pours.

Play not to lose Mets. Come on you little cowards. Please do so.

Put the season in the hand of the Chicago Cubs. I mean it’s a brilliant philosophy. You must have gotten that idea from the philosopher Aaron Heilman.

  279. metsfan42793 says:

that is exactly why we need a real left fielder

  280. rockets212 says:

    where is evans throwing to???

  281. lambay says:

awful mistake by Nick Evans there

  282. metsforever says:

    Brewers out in the 5th

  283. khmustache says:

dang…….rookies playing out of position….come on mets

  284. WrightsRight says:

JFC – i mean. These guys had to have KNOWN the IMPORTANCE of scoring early TODAY with OP going on 3 days rest. It’s absolutely inexcusable that they aren’t able to hit Olsen today – a guy they own.

And now Evans allows the guy to go to 2nd. Why isn’t Carlos telling him where to throw. This is looking very, very dire right now.

  285. nyj0126 says:

Yank him. Irresponsible ball. Now what happens if there’s a single?

  286. wethreekings says:

Don’t resign this guy. Please. Just so inconsistent.

  287. FireOmar says:

Hold on tight we’re in bullpen territory.

  288. mookie says:

oh boy. ollie and his two cent head. should we sign him?

  289. nyj0126 says:

The Mets have an inability to win consecutive games.

Look at everything since Monday. Why is that a loss from the previous has to propel a win?

  290. Dafatone80 says:

Does Evans even have the guy at 2nd if he throws there? He doesn’t exactly appear to have an arm.

  291. das320 says:

    SO SCARED OF THE BULLPEN

  292. MetsFan4Decades says:

And after watching these games all season I have absolutely no faith the BP holds it where it’s at for the rest of the game.

Can’t believe this. It’s like being in a time warp.

  293. lil pelf says:

im gonna just root for the cubs now and hope we can hit tomorrow

  294. WrightsRight says:

Most important batter of the year for Joe Smith.

  295. das320 says:

BULLPEN better be rested after the day off yesterday

  296. nyj0126 says:

It’s hard to respect fans who call this team ”resilient” just because this can win every other game. It should be called re-silence. This is pure BS. Just when you need to count on your offense that’s tore this guy apart this season, they turn into a bunch of little wimps.

I swear to god – David Wright better not answer any media questions and say ”Well, we had an opportunity to score and we didn’t.” Yes, we’ve watched it and you’ve said it over 100 times this year. Why not just do it now?

    Get an out Joe.

  297. Nate W. says:

Great move by Manual. Willingham and Ross have the best numbers against Perez and you have no room for error. Pitching change had to be made right there.

  298. das320 says:

    WHERE is that 1-1 pitch?

  299. metsforever says:

    Sabathia looks awesome today.

  300. nyj0126 says:

I personally will advocate a trade for David Wright out of an environment he won’t thrive in anymore than A-Rod if he says that.

  301. MetsFan4Decades says:

Like I said……no faith in this BP.

  302. das320 says:

WHY CAN’T YOU THROW A STRIKE?????

  303. wethreekings says:

That was an awful call. I don’t blame Joe for that walk.

  304. WrightsRight says:

Jesus Joe – of course we had serious Gary Cohen jinx in effect but whatever.

    My goodness what a disaster.

  305. Metfreak says:

    I can’t believe this anymore

  306. miker94 says:

and that’ll do it folks. it was fun…

  307. WrightsRight says:

ump is squeezing smith big time

  308. nyj0126 says:

    I won’t watch this.

    Heart?

Where are you now losers? Where’s your optomism? I’m a Mets fan like you – but I wasn’t optomistic.

Every test you fail in school followed by a good one must make you smile too. Don’t believe. Don’t give yourselves false hope. They just don’t want it. The offense, the bullpen, no one.

  309. Nate W. says:

    ..has anyone seen the offense?

Are they in suits waiting to be honored in the post game ceremonies?

  310. khmustache says:

big out there….please get one more

  311. metsfaninmd says:

Well the bullpen’s crappiness aside, Where is the offense? Score some runs!! Please. This is getting ridiculous.

  312. FireOmar says:

    SOS

  313. Ellen says:

I still think we can get to Olsen.

  314. WrightsRight says:

game is all on the offense. OP did his job.

  315. metsforever says:

This guy has been a PITA all year.

  316. FireOmar says:

Where is Giuseppe Franco when you need him, i need a Procede commercial.

  317. Metfreak says:

Its sad when you have to depend on the Cubs because you can’t depend on the Mets

  318. das320 says:

Let’s go Joe! Get out of it

  319. nastyslider says:

I really don’t want to see these same guys next year. Don’t resign Ollie and get a completely new bullpen!

  320. metsforever says:

And the Marlins aren’t even playing their best guy.

  321. wethreekings says:

Good job, Joe. You did your job.

  322. FireOmar says:

NICE! LETS GET SOME O now.

  323. das320 says:

Well at least he limited the damage

  324. MetsFan4Decades says:

Well, at least the damage was limited.

    The offense is just DOA.

  325. metsforever says:

I thought Smith might be trying to race Almezega there.

    Will Marlon be the PH?

  326. khmustache says:

alright….here we go offense….get something done here

  327. Metfreak says:

Can we score some runs now this guy isn’t that great

  328. Dafatone80 says:

This one’s far from over. Let’s go Mets.

  329. nastyslider says:

WE HAVE TO GET THIS OFFENSE GOING. 2 RUNS SHOULD NOT WIN THE GAME FOR THEM!!!!

  330. WrightsRight says:

LETS GO OFFENSE, GET YOUR HEADS OUT OF YOUR A$$ES AND DO SOMETHING! IT’S RIGHT THERE BEFORE YOU!!!!!

  331. Nate W. says:

So, can the Mets outscore the bullpen by 3 runs over 3 innings. Normally thats a tall task, have to grasp the moment guys…

  332. metsfan42793 says:

Robinson I don’t want to cancel the season yet so do something

  333. Flushing_is_Burning says:

for the love of god, score some runs, at least even it up, you know the Brewers see an opportunity

  334. Ellen says:

What??? Olsen hasn’t even thown 70 pitches??? Where IS our offense, for Pete’s sake????

  335. metsforever says:

  337. wethreekings says:

  339. Dafatone80 says:

  344. metsfan42793 says:

    CMON REYES U CHOKER

  345. wethreekings says:

Unfortunate for Jose. He’s had no luck.

  346. Metfreak says:

Do they realize that this might be the last game

  347. Two-By-Four says:

The late game offensive woes (for you delusional optimists the facts support this and everyone else sees it) that hurt this team all season has in this series expanded to the entire game. If they don’t hit the rest of this game I’m sure the bats will come back to life in ST.

  348. WrightsRight says:

Someone on this team has to get a big hit…it can’t end like this

  349. wethreekings says:

    Clutch-TRON!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  375. FireOmar says:

Is anyone at the game blogging?

  376. MetsFan4Decades says:

Whoever said it before – you’re right. How does Olsen even see under that cap??

  377. Metfreak says:

These guys are swinging at balls

  378. metsforever says:

Let’s go. Do not rely on the Cubs. They are running in random pitchers every inning. The Brewers will likely win that game.

  379. wethreekings says:

Jacobs was not on that bag.
    Oh well…

  380. FireOmar says:

here comes SHO – oh boy. bullpen needs to be solid.

  381. WrightsRight says:

sigh – bullpen needs to grow set during the commercial break and hold this tie.

  382. MetsFan4Decades says:

  386. wethreekings says:

    Officer Stokes. We meet again.

  387. Metfreak says:

No really couldn’t Maine come in for the rest of the game I know he would have to warm up for a while but I rather see him

  388. metsforever says:

  389. wethreekings says:

    Good job Endy.

  390. khmustache says:

    hot doggin rook

  391. FireOmar says:

    wow

  392. wethreekings says:

Cameron Maybin looks like a baby deer trying to run while its legs are still forming.

  393. miker94 says:

what a shame that this is the ny mets bullpen. we need about 6 more runs to be safe…

  394. MetsFan4Decades says:

Caught a break there on that only being a single.
    Come on, Stokes.

  395. Flushing_is_Burning says:

brewers batting no outs, man on 2nd

  396. nastyslider says:

We’re screwed. Brew Crew’s gonna tie it and we’re about to give up a lead.

  397. WrightsRight says:

    I can’t even watch Stokes pitch…

  398. metsforever says:

Brewers man on third one out

  399. wethreekings says:

    What happened to Cy Marshall?

  400. SPR says:

  411. WrightsRight says:

i dont want to see show vs. jacobs.

jacobs owns the mets and law of averages vs. show, etc.

  412. FireOmar says:

  428. metsforever says:

  464. nastyslider says:

  465. WrightsRight says:

mets need to make up for dropping the ball in 2006 after endy made that catch.

  466. wethreekings says:

    Jason Kendall
    Hehehehe.

  467. FireOmar says:

end of 7th 1-1 in mil

  468. Metfreak says:

This season aged alot of us Met fans

  469. MainStMets23 says:

love how both games are neck and neck right now, someone will be celebrating today!

  470. wethreekings says:

Too bad we have automatic K Church up next

  471. MetsFan4Decades says:

‘Ryan Church happy to see Olsen out of the game’.
    I don’t think Church’s probably is Olsen…..
Come on, Ryan do something here.

  472. FireOmar says:

church has a gun in right field, he’ll come around.

  473. metsforever says:

    This guy looks awful

  474. FireOmar says:

    ok maby not.

  475. wethreekings says:

    EVERY SINGLE TIME!!!!
    THE SAME EXACT PITCH!!!!!!!!!!

  476. SPR says:

Wow, Church is pretty useless lately…

  477. FireOmar says:

    Sabathia finally hit 100 pitches.

  478. Metfreak says:

Can we get 6 out from the pen

  479. Mets Fan on Wall St. says:

I’m thinking now that we have Endy in the game we can bring in Murphy for Church. I guess you want him as a PH, but Church has been beyond awful for the week except for his game against the Cubs.

  480. miker94 says:

wow, someone please needs to sit church down. he is simply horrible. why the he.ll isn’t murph in for him?

  481. metsforever says:

The Yankees are going to be very happy with Sabathia next season. He is a horse.

  482. WrightsRight says:

ok, i’m officially done with church. 3Ks in a game like this? No excuse.

And my goodness, is this a mirror image of what happened after Endy’s catch in 2006. Always an inability to capitalize on any momentum.

  483. techwonV27 says:

How Awful is Church…. HE IS NOT AN EVERYDAY RIGHT FIELDER……………

  484. nastyslider says:

    where are you Tatis?

  485. das320 says:

    Church just keep striking out

what has he got? like 8 in the series?

  486. Flushing_is_Burning says:

love church, but has he become an automatic out now?

  487. gipper82475 says:

Looks like I picked the wrong week to quit sniffing glue.

  488. metsforever says:

Cubs out in the 8th. Mets better win, cause the Brewers will. The game is going that way.

  489. das320 says:

    HUGE inning here

  490. metsforever says:

    Show time.

  491. wethreekings says:

Looks like we will seriously need an outfielder after all.

  492. MetsFan4Decades says:

    WTF ???????????????

  493. nastyslider says:

    DIE SHOWINWEISS!!!!!!!!!!

  494. FireOmar says:

    I HATE SHO – I HATE SHO!!!!!!!!!!!

  495. Metfreak says:

    WHY WHY I HATE HIM

  496. wethreekings says:

Why was Show in there? WHY? WHY?????????

  497. Dafatone80 says:

If we end up losing to Wes Helms…

  498. WrightsRight says:

I despise Show with every fiber of my being.

  499. metsforever says:

And that will be the season. Why, Jerry, why?

  500. Mets Fan on Wall St. says:

WHY DIDN”T YOU BRING IN A RIGHTY!

  501. khmustache says:

damn damn…..why is schoe in this game

  502. gipper82475 says:

And THAT’S why this punk got booed on Opening Day.

  503. metsfaninmd says:

Oh my god. That was perhaps the worst thing I’ve ever seen.

  504. SPR says:

    Blowenweis!!

  505. wethreekings says:

Oh, god. That may have done us in.

  506. FireOmar says:

    BATTING PRACTICE

  507. Nate W. says:

    managerial genuis right there…

  508. Ellen says:

I absolutely positively cannot believe this. But we should be used to this….

I guess we have to just hope the Cubs pull it out.

  509. Metfreak says:

    THANKS YOU FREAKING LOSER

  510. metsforever says:

He has to be gone. you know the Brewers are winning that game

  511. wethreekings says:

This is now officially on the bullpen if we lose.

  512. nastyslider says:

  517. DeantheLiLc says:

  518. FireOmar says:

SOMEONE PLEASE TELL ME TO BELIEVE WE CAN STILL PULL THIS OUT.

  519. gipper82475 says:

    Oooooooommmmmmaaaaaarrrrrrr

  520. metsfaninmd says:

    Scott Schoewenweis is amazingly bad

  521. metsforever says:

Brewers are letting Sabathia hit in the 8th. That guy is a horse, and gives an idea of the Brew pen as well.

  522. Metfreak says:

Who do we have that can 6 outs Why does a crappy team like the Marlins are playing like they need this game more then us

  523. miker94 says:

well, it’s been….no actually it hasn’t been fun, so i guess i can say it’s been interesting. see ya next year.

  524. MetsFan4Decades says:

It’s a time warp. I’m stuck in a time warp between 2006 and 2007. Only it wasn’t Shoe giving up that HR in the 8th but Heilman….

  525. nastyslider says:

THAT SHOT JUST ENDED OUR SEASON. GOOD JOB YOU PIECE OF CRAP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! THIS BULLPEN IS WORSE THAN A DOUBLE A ONE!!!!! GOD

  526. WrightsRight says:

Was that Wes Helms or Yadier Molina? Uncanny.
Chavez makes a great catch, and the bullpen comes in and says F You to their teammates and the fans.

Unwillingness to come through when momentum shifts to their side. So when the other team sees us looking like chickens with our heads off after a great moment, they pounce.

I hope Show is in a cab heading to Laguardia and back home. Hate his guts.

  527. Nate W. says:

Did we really expect the pen to not allow any runs?

The offense knows they needed at least 3 or 4 more to win, so they shouldnt be surprised. And neither should we.

That said, Manual is still a moron.

  528. lambay says:

    It’s not quite over yet.

    LET’S GO METS

  529. bittergreen says:

ON the plus side, that is the last time will see Schoenweiss.

  530. wethreekings says:

Good news, though guys. The longer the game goes in Chicago, the more tired the Brew Crew could potentially be.

  531. metsforever says:

Cameron single 1 on 1 out

  532. wethreekings says:

Everyone on this team sux. OMG

  533. MetsFan4Decades says:

    Holy Mother of God……
This bullpen just plain out sux.

  534. khmustache says:

  538. Flushing_is_Burning says:

    F*ing scho

  539. wethreekings says:

I HATE EVERYONE IN THIS BULLPEN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  540. Nate W. says:

…should have left Stokes in. No one else can get outs without giving up at least one run per out.

  541. nastyslider says:

THIS BULLPEN REALLY NEED TO DIE!!!!!!!!!! IM NOT KIDDING THEY HAVE RUINED THE DAY OF 55,000 PEOPLES DAY AND THEY DON’T EVEN DESERVE TO LIVE ANYMORE!!!!!!

  542. GaryCartersHairpiece says:

What did that guy say about every time the bullpen door opens?

The only thing I am shocked about is that it isn’t Heilman.

    Yet.

  543. FireOmar says:

Aslo, while I was typing this, Ayala pours some more gasoline on the fire…

  546. metsfaninmd says:

This is so fitting and so predictable and yet I still feel the urge to vomit.

  547. metsforever says:

man on 1st 2out in Mil

  548. bittergreen says:

Brewers have the momentum in their game. The only hope now is Cubs beat the brew-crew.

  549. Flushing_is_Burning says:

  550. lil pelf says:

we’ve needed an eigth inning guy for how long, HOW F’ING LONG!!

  551. Dafatone80 says:

The heart of our order’ll come up again in the 9th, if not the 8th.

Not sure if we’ll get it done, but we’ll have a shot.

  552. tepperware says:

I’m livid, but it shouldn’t be a surprise.
Can’t expect the bullpen to magically become good out of the blue. At least they are consistent!

  553. WrightsRight says:

Game over…sorry cockeyed optimists but this is a good old fashioned buzz kill.

    Pray the cubs win.

  554. techwonV27 says:

Flushing is Burning please elaborate what part of Ryan Church’s game you love…

  555. Two-By-Four says:

Schoe does it again. How many of you thought Schoe would get the job done?

  556. mookie says:

And we no one but omar to thank for these sorry excuse of human garbage.

  557. wethreekings says:

How does this even happen? I hope Omar dies, and goes to h.e.ll. While he’s there, he’ll meet the devil, who will say, ” Your punishment is to watch the 2008 bullpen blow every lead they get, for all eternity”

  558. MetsFan4Decades says:

Seriously, even if the Brewers lose, we’d need Pedro to pitch a complete game tomorrow to win. The odds of that happening are absolutely nil.

Bottom line, the BP cost us this season. We shouldn’t even have to be playing today for a chance at post season. 8 blown saves for Santana alone would have clinched the division days ago.

  559. bittergreen says:

Ryan Braun 2 run homer for Brewers. Season over.

  560. metsfan42793 says:

well guys the brewers are going to win thanks to ryan braun have a nice offseason everybody

  561. napes22 says:

I blame Manuel for this. You pull out Schoenweiss you never all him to face a righty. And his idiotic reliance on Ayala killed us again.

Sanchez, Figaroa, Knight .. .why go to Ayala…reall

    • metsforever says:

Once he put him in, he had to face 1 batter. Of course, he never should have been in.

It is fitting that the season should end this way. No timely offense and the bullpen blows it up. The season in a nutshell.

      see you at Citi

  562. wheres.the.magic.number says:

so how many runs will we give up here in the 8th – 3,4,5 ??? dont forget the 9th – maybe aaron can hold them to just 2 more then so we have a fighting chance of coming back

  563. FireOmar says:

Brew crew up 3-1. Its over.

  564. nastyslider says:

    BREWERS WIN WE LOSE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  565. metsforever says:

    Season over officially.

Will they just blow this place up now?

  566. wethreekings says:

THIS IS THE WORST DAY OF MY LIFE!!!!!

  567. Dafatone80 says:

Okay. Two innings to score two runs. Let’s get this done.

    • FireOmar says:

Score two runs, but whose gonna keep the marlins from scoring?

    • MetsFan4Decades says:

I want so much to go down the road – but I really think our ship has sailed.

      • wheres.the.magic.number says:

Hopefully Omar & Jeffy realize and face the facts that Moises, Pedro & Duque can no longer be counted on. Add Luis to the list and we’ll be even better off. The ship has definitely sailed, or was torpedoed and lies on the bottom.

  568. metsfaninmd says:

Braun just homered. We are all totally F’d in the A.

  569. FireOmar says:

    Its over Johnny.

  570. Flushing_is_Burning says:

even they get in to the postseason they are not going to go far with this… I think I’m going to throw up

  571. nastyslider says:

2 YEARS IN A ROW CAUSE OF THIS CRAPPY BULLPEN. OMAR NEEDS TO BE FIRED I DON’T CARE WHAT GOOD HE’S DONE, THE BULLPEN IS THE WORST IN THE NL WITH THE HIGHEST PAYROLL!!!!!!!

  572. metsfan42793 says:

I REALLY HOPE EVERYONE IN THIS BULLPEN GOES TO HELL. I HATE EVERYBODY. THEY DONT DESERVE TO LIVE. THEY SHOULD FEEL ASHAMED OF THEMSELVES FOR RUINING THE TEAM AND THE FANS.

  573. njmetfan111 says:

Great to see Shea go on such a positive note. Seriously, when they tear down Shea the players should just stay in it. We’ll get Cerrone to coach the team and get the most talented players from metsblog to play for the team next year.

  574. nyj0126 says:

    Reseliency? Oh so precious.

If there was a game tomorrow and they won, I suppose they’d be resilient too, right?

What about those three losses out of six to the Braves – all in which were blown saves except for one legit loss?

  575. wethreekings says:

At least we can look forward to a bunch of Phillies trolls.

  576. gipper82475 says:

    Omar Minaya. 4 year extension.

    Enough said.

  577. FireOmar says:

THE ONLY PERSON NOT WORRIED TODAY IS OMAR. OMAR DOESNT CARE – HE HAS HIS CONTRACT.

  578. Metfreak says:

I can’t understand how you have a team like the Marlins come to town and talk crap and the Mets take it up there fanny

    • WrightsRight says:

the warpaint on their face says it all. They were taking this game seriously, they looked the part.

  579. WrightsRight says:

This is what happens when the Mets leave their bats at home. They’ve got to understand that their bullpen is the worst in history, that it is a miracle if they can record 3 consecutive outs. This game was their’s for the taking against a guy they absolutely own.

Regardless, I hope Delgado beats Show’s head in with a bat.

  580. SPR says:

Not really surprising that the bullpen killed us, but still a crushing defeat to not make it to the post season for the 2nd straight year with one of the highest payrolls in the MAJORS.

For the record, I’m rooting for the Cubs once this is over. First the Dodgers, then the Cubs.

  581. nastyslider says:

THIS CROWD IS PISSED AND THEY SHOULD BE!!!!!!!!!

  582. metsfaninmd says:

Okay so this should be demoralizing and depressing. The crappy beer in the fridge will taste that much worse.

  583. darknova says:

Wow, losing the season because of a scrub for the second time in two years (Yadier Molina and now Wes Helms) is just depressing. Oh well, we’ve still got a few outs left, I guess. Not too promising, though.

  584. Two-By-Four says:

Baseball always exposes your weakest link and in this case it’s the bullpen. These guys remind me of the 1962 bullpen.

  585. metsfan42793 says:

WHY IS MARLON ANDERSON ON DECK. JERRY U R JUST AS WORSE AS WILLIE

  586. washtiger says:

And Omar is getting an extension because…?

  587. BLUEXORANGE says:

oh well…didnt we all expect the bullpen to just blow it….better luck next year its over……go jets go islanders go …whatever

  588. FireOmar says:

    murphy looked great there huh.

  589. metsforever says:

Can you really be surprised how this season ended? Bullpen blows up the season, just as they f’ed up so many games this year. Fitting, I guess.

  590. WrightsRight says:

thank god – marlon andersen is here to save the day.

  591. FireOmar says:

So was it Willie or the Bullpen?

  592. MetsFan4Decades says:

Marlon, just lean into the pitch.

  593. bittergreen says:

Marlon Anderson? Why not just send up Ayala to hit?

  594. FireOmar says:

marlon anderson saves the day – not.

  595. nyj0126 says:

I refuse to care anymore. This team deserves to be known as chokers. I’m sorry. It’s the same story as last year. Maybe next year it won’t happen because they get the Reds to end the year, but this is just Deja Vu.

  596. rogasm says:

How many people are actually going to stay around for the Shea celebration? My guess is not many.

  597. Big Gator says:

The whole team needs to go except santana.. The whole team!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  598. gipper82475 says:

I would guess Omar skips any part of the Shea Goodbye ceremonies….for his own safety.

  599. metsfan42793 says:

WOW MARLON MY GRANDMA WOULD OF BEAT THE THROW

  600. metsflip says:

    I guess it’s “Shea Good-Bye” afterall

  601. WrightsRight says:

why is marlon still on this team? why?

  602. FireOmar says:

CAN’T WE SHEA GOODBYE TO OMAR?

  603. khmustache says:

now uggla can field….i’m at a loss here

  604. nastyslider says:

PLEASE KILL YOURSELF SHOWINWEISS, HEILMAN, AND AYALA!!!!!!!!

  605. mr_met says:

what the s hi t is going on with mlb tv

  606. bittergreen says:

I’m not even bothering to watch the Mets. Only hope is Cubbies at this point. They are bringing the tying run to the base.

  607. MetsFan4Decades says:

What a waste of the signing of Johan.
Our BP just sux, big time. They have consistently been the problem all year. Yeah, we’ve had some spotty defense but overall, the season killer has been the BP.

On that note, nice double Jose.

  608. metsfan42793 says:

BELTRAN YOU DID IT ONCE LETS DO IT AGAIN. SAVE ME AND SAVE EVERY MET FAN

  609. mookie says:

Lord what ever I did to tick you off. I’m sorry, I didn’t mean to.

  610. Wright88 says:

Bad move having the ceremony after the game.

  611. imtiredofguiseppefranco says:

shea goodnight folks, i cant believe it. maybe sabathia gets killed with 4 runs

  612. metsforever says:

    Brewers win, season over.

  613. bittergreen says:

    Brewers win. 3-1.

  614. WrightsRight says:

    i would take a single…just score a run…just score something.

  615. Wright88 says:

Delgado..please please just one HR. All I want is one HR.

  616. metsforever says:

The Yankees will be very happy with CC next year.

  617. MetsFan4Decades says:

Damn. We haven’t been able to hit Rhodes(?) yet.

Please, please, Carlos. I’m begging you. Get a hit. Keep it going.

  618. lambay says:

surely delgado has to be due a hit of Rhodes. Please!

  619. metsfan42793 says:

wow the brewers are wearing their wild card champion shirt

  620. Kellman says:

MLB.TV WHAT THE HELL WHY NOW, GIVE ME MY MONEY BACK

  621. imtiredofguiseppefranco says:

sabathia is a beast. no way the brewers are a better team than the mets though.

    • metsforever says:

Bill Parcells once said you are what your record says you are.

The Brewers are better because their pen blew one less game.

  622. tomg says:

    brewers win

  623. nastyslider says:

THIS SEASON IS OVER!!!!!!! AND SO ARE THE NEXT 4 YEARS WITH OMAR MINAYA!!!!!!!!!!

  624. Wright88 says:

    sht…sub 1 era lefty

  625. Wright88 says:

    drop down a bunt..

  626. metsfan42793 says:

this is going to be 3 straight fastbals hign and in and delgado will k

  627. Wright88 says:

    OMFG THATS HOW IT ENDS?!

  628. MetsFan4Decades says:

    Almost.

  629. lambay says:

    and that’s all folks!

  630. metsforever says:

And there is nothing coming up in the ninth. One inning left in the dump we call home.

    Good riddence

  631. imtiredofguiseppefranco says:

games over poeple, next season will be even worse.

k-rod just got a phone call from omar saying the check is waiting

  632. nastyslider says:

    F-U:CK,F-U:CK
    F-U:CK
    F-U:CK
    F-U:CK
    F-U:CK
    F-U:CK
    F-U:CKF-U:CK
    KILL THIS BULLPEN

  633. das320 says:

    4 hits the whole game

  634. washtiger says:

Delgado gave it a ride but not enough. That’s all folks.

  635. metsfan42793 says:

well guys our season is over. there is no point of denying it. we need a complete makeover next year. heilman, shoe, and feliciano need to be knocked down with shea stadium

  636. Fiya Minaya says:

Deja Boo! Thank you Minaya the Mouthbreather for neglecting the bullpen for 2+ years- you genius.

  637. mookie says:

    f u minaya

  638. nastyslider says:

    CALL K-ROD NOW!!!!!!!!

  639. das320 says:

the brewers win because they can hit

  640. gipper82475 says:

The Wilpons have to back away from that 4-yr Omar deal now, right? It was never officially confirmed….they just HAVE to back away from it.

    Right?

    Right?

  641. WrightsRight says:

“We’re going to be creative next season. We’ll have Show setting up Ayala. It’ll be great, you know what I’m saying?”
    - Omar

  642. mr_met says:

goddame it you cunting mlb tv give me my money back

  643. oleosmirf says:

the mets need a buckner like miracle to win this game and to be honest they dont deserve it not after wednesday night’s debocle.

  644. metsfan42793 says:

WHY IS LUIS CASTILLO IN. JERRY U R A BIGGER IDIOT THAN WILLY

  645. MetsFan4Decades says:

I’ll be on this blog all winter just to keep up with the deals they’d better be making for a real BP.

  646. nobeers says:

    just fire jerry now

castillo gimme a fkin break, at least make the last inning at shea respectable.

  647. nastyslider says:

LETS LEAVE THIS BULLPEN WITH THIS STADIUM AND HAVE THEM ALL GO DOWN. I MEAN THEY WERE THE FINAL MEMORIES OF THIS STADIUM!

  648. DeantheLiLc says:

just re-lived the last two innings of ‘06 and the last month of ‘07 all in the last 25 minutes… i feel absolutely sick..

  649. nyj0126 says:

I quit on this team. It’s over. The candle’s burnt out.

Am I the only one who’s had MLB.com service go out in the last 2 innings?

  650. techwonV27 says:

Who here wants Church as an everyday RF next year???? If you want him next year please elaborate because I can’t find one reason to bring this lackadazical player back again….

  651. imtiredofguiseppefranco says:

luis ayala should kill himself literally

  652. bittergreen says:

Why put Ayala out there for a 2nd inning?

  653. kd bart says:

In the end, the thing that constantly did them in all season long, did them in again. Worse bullpen by a contender I’ve ever seen. A halfway decent bullpen and they win the division by at least 5 games. Cost them way too many games.

  654. metsflip says:

Right now, I’ve got nothing to say…

  655. Flushing_is_Burning says:

i want to say we still have a chance, but we have to endure 3 outs by our pen without giving up a run, and batter due up for the Mets aside from wright has no chance. Proof us wrong Mets!!!!!

  656. DMSMets says:

I said it last year when we blew it and I’ll say it again (regardless of the outcome of this game)…we need to just start from scratch. I don’t care who we release/trade/whatever. Obviously certain guys are off limits. But IMO our bullpen must be completely revamped. Not sure who A Reyes is gonna work out at 2B or what other options we have there (I guess Castillo, not sure what we’ll do with R. Martinez) but 2B is by far our weakest offensive position on the team.

That being said….GO METS….LETS COMEBACK NOW!!!!!

  657. edwin nieves says:

    SHEA GOODBYE

  658. FireOmar says:

    I’m speechless. Fire Omar.

  659. oleosmirf says:

omar did everything he could do to put together a playoff team. its not his fault the bullpen was awful, or david wright’s inability to hit in the clutch or that the mets cant hit with men on…

    • wethreekings says:

DAVID WRIGHT IS NOT THE PROBLEM!!!!
      CAN’T YOU TELL?
LOOK AT THE GAME AND TELL ME WHAT YOU SEE, YOU BLIND FOOL!

    • FireOmar says:

omar did everything he could do to put together a playoff team.

      HUH?

    • gipper82475 says:

      Oleo,

How is it NOT Omar’s fault that the bullpen was awful? He built the pen! We all knew the pen was a glaring hole going into this season and Omar did nothing to improve it!

  660. metsflip says:

Well….. We can score 2 runs in an inning…

  661. nastyslider says:

    Mets 2009

    Reyes
    Murphy
    Wright
    Delgado
    Beltran
    Milton Bradley
    Orlando Hudson
    Castro

    Bullpen:
    K-ROD
    K-ROD
    K-ROD
    K-ROD

  662. danlx13 says:

they should have put pelfrey in for the 8th and 9th instead of shoew and ayala and we would have a 2 2 tie right now

  663. dominicanboy08 says:

why was scho pitching to a right hander batter? that changed our momentum, wtf is wrong with jerry

    • WrightsRight says:

did the marlins pull a bait and switch there? I mean, Manuel is smart enough to know that Show can’t get righties out. No idea what happened there.

    • MetsFan4Decades says:

He brought him in to pitch to Jacobs. They countered with a pinch hitter for Jacobs.

  664. nyj0126 says:

This is how Shea Stadium should be remembered. At least since 86′ it should.

  665. nyj0126 says:

Why should Jerry Manuel return if he pitches Aaron Heilman in clutch situations 3 days before the season ends and puts in Louie Castillo when Ramon’s done his job more than well?

    • MetsFan4Decades says:

Dude, just about the whole BP sux. It’s a crap shoot.
That being said, Heilman is the last guy I would have brought in.

  666. washtiger says:

The BP notwithstanding, how can the bats be a no-show in this series? Five runs in three games. Absolutely pathetic.

Never should’ve been in this position to begin with, but we all know that already.

Did Omar get the extension? I hope not…

    Please blow up the BP!

  667. Fiya Minaya says:

Sickening display of incompetence by Minaya- two managers and two straight years of shocking disappointment! And it’s the manager, right?

  668. nastyslider says:

6 TD’S BY FAVRE HOPEFULLY THAT TEAM WILL HAVE A BETTER FATE THAN THIS ONE!

  669. DMSMets says:

Even when we were leading the East last week I was ho-hum about us making the playoffs. I mean who honestly thought we would go deep in the playoffs with this pen? I didn’t. Its a shame that we put together such an exciting comeback to get back into 1st place and build our lead to 3.5 games (at least, maybe more), but when your pen is this pathetic you won’t win any championships. I won’t blink an eye if I never have to see Shoe, Heilman, or Alaya again….

  670. danlx13 says:

this team has no fight in them at all

    the game is over
    the season is over
    and shea is done forever

  671. breweres are wearing their wild card champion gear….

champange was in the red sox club house prior to buckner letting the ball go through his legs..

karma can be a bi-t-c-h some times

    lets go mets

    • imtiredofguiseppefranco says:

      stop dreaming please

      • its the only thing left right now because thinking about omar giving heilmann and felicaino extensions trading joe smith and coaxing robbie alomar to come out of retire ment is just scary

    • RobGoBlue says:

I guess this is the point where I acknowledge all the Susie Sunshines out there who would shout down people pointing out all the siilarities between this year and 2007. Telling the realistic ones they weren’t “real fans”, etc. Second verse, same as the first. Ride your happy litle rainbows right into the off-season, boys. Enjoy that “home-field advantage” at Citi Field. It won’t be just Schoeneweis getting booed on Opening Day this time.

  672. imtiredofguiseppefranco says:

if the mets win this game, i will go absolutely insane, but i have a better shot of the knicks winning a championship

  673. wethreekings says:

I hate this team so much right now. This just ruined my week.

  674. Clutch says:

No..it is his fault for putting together a bunch of spineless no talent cowards…it his his fault for putting together a bunch of CHOKE ARTISTS!……..enough said……I say trade everyone but Santana and Pelfrey…..what more fitting way to end shea than another disaster from this franchise

  675. nyj0126 says:

If Matt Cerrone has any guts – he should ask how many Mets fans will seriously be committed to believing we can win next season? I’m going to guess more than half do, but a big chunk leaves.

    • WrightsRight says:

I’ll be here again next year but I will be extremely cynical. And I will be livid if Omar doesn’t blow up the pen and get rid of Castillo. He must make those moves. No excuses.

  676. WrightsRight says:

Like I said, offense did not show up today which is inexcusable. But it also allllll comes down to the bullpen. The bullpen has destroyed this offense because no matter how many runs the Mets score it doesn’t matter anyway.

  677. lambay says:

i wonder when feliciano last threw a strike?

  678. imtiredofguiseppefranco says:

johan just demanded a trade in the offseason

  679. johnfromflushing says:

what chokers … the whole team……

cant wait till they blow this thing up …..

  680. oleosmirf says:

man milton bradley is the most ghetto thug in the history of the mlb. you think millege or dukes is bad. Bradley is 100 times worst.

he tried fighting an announcer b/c he called him out for his attitude problem for god sakes.

    STAY AWAY FROM THAT PSCHYO!!!!!!!

    • WrightsRight says:

i actually think the mets could use a psycho or two on this team. 1986 was filled with psychos. These guys are all choirboys. Has done us a lot of good.

      • MetsFan4Decades says:

We don’t need any psychos. Don’t we have enough problems?
And that ‘86 team, who I followed religiously, were a good chunk on drugs. That being said, I just loved those guys.

  681. danlx13 says:

i know the bullpen really hasnt been good all year and today but if this team really wanted to win they would have put up 7 runs

  682. FireOmar says:

    Met Fans = :(

    Omar Manaya – :) HAHAHAHAHAHAHAH!

  683. JoeDinBuffalo says:

    LETS GO METS!

  684. Flushing_is_Burning says:

worst mets bullpen in recent history, these people make benitez look decent, and that says a lot

  685. imtiredofguiseppefranco says:

    man what a season………………..

  686. lambay says:

i wonder was that Jerry’s last walk to the mound as the Mets manager?

I cannot make my mind up if I want him back. and i could sure say the same about Omar

  687. washtiger says:

Devasting HR’s vs the Mets over the years:

    ‘87 — Pendelton
    ‘88 — Scoscia (sp?)
    ‘06 — Yadier f’in Molina
    ‘08 — Wes f’in Helms

    I’m sure there are more.

  688. Jim Bowden says:

I JUST WANTED TO SEND YOU MY THANKS FOR TAKING CHURCH, THE AA OUTFIELDER AND AYALA, THE TOTAL LOSER WITH NO STUFF, OFF OUR HANDS.

WHAT WERE YOU GUYS THINKING, DRINKING?

ALL THE BEST IN THE MONTH OF OCTOBER.

    YOUR FRIEND, JIM

    • kd bart says:

Church was their best player the first two months of the season. The concussion ruined his season. Threw it completely off track.

  689. mr_met says:

why cut my frigging service now????????!!!!!!!!!!! what if the mets score in the bottom of the 9th!!!!!!!!!! do your job and get it back on you moronic mlbtv bastards!!!!!!!!!!!

  690. Clutch says:

I just wanna thank my dad for making me a fan of the most pathetic franchise in sports history

  691. MetsFan4Decades says:

Christ. Someone will win, someone will lose. Why in God’s name does it have to be us that always loses?????

  692. FireOmar says:

    Met Fans – :(
    Willie Randolph – :(
    Jerry Manual – :( Cmon Gangsta’s
    Bullpen – DUH?
Omar Manaya – $$ :) $$ HA HA HA HA HA!

  693. rM teM says:

this team just vacume’s the joy out of baseball.
what a lousy, crummy year this has been.

  694. Koko says:

See you guys in the offseason. An interesting ride this season. I’m disappointed, but considering the health of the team, I’m actually kind of proud of them – well most of them.

  695. kd bart says:

In a way, it was amazing this team lasted this long after the injury to Wagner. By far, the biggest injury of the season. Had no adequate replacement for him.

    • darknova says:

Exactly. You can’t expect a team to really do well with a bullpen with no reliable closer, or even with no one that can get an out when needed.

I really hope this doesn’t drive them to throw a huge blank check at K-Rod, but we’ll see.

  696. WestCoastMets_since86 says:

this is unreal…un real I have no idea what to even think right now. where the hell do we go from here?!?!?

  697. RobGoBlue says:

I guess this is the point where I acknowledge all the Susie Sunshines out there who would shout down people pointing out all the siilarities between this year and 2007. Telling the realistic ones they weren’t “real fans”, etc. Second verse, same as the first. Ride your happy little rainbows right into the off-season, boys. Enjoy that “home-field advantage” at Citi Field. It won’t be just Schoeneweis getting booed on Opening Day this time.

    • metsforever says:

Don’t think you have to worry about Schoeneweis getting booed on Opening Day. He will be very far away

    • MetsFan4Decades says:

Dude, you want to take out your frustrations on any fan who wanted to believe this year was different? This isn’t any of the fans fault. Get a grip. If you’re a fan, there is just no point in watching the games if you’ve convinced yourself from the get go it’s over before it began.

  698. darknova says:

Honestly, being realistic, you had to see their bullpen doing them in in the end. I’ll live through seeing them choke, but to know that those loser scrubs Olsen and Ross were mouthing off so much before the series and now get to feel some smug joy over this is what really gets me. I hate those loser scrubs.

  699. Gary Busey says:

    Dear Willie Randolph,

    It’s not you, it’s us.

    Love,
    Mets relief pitching

  700. metsforever says:

Will the Mets make even a token effort in the bottom of the inning?

  701. imtiredofguiseppefranco says:

willie is having a beer with a cigar laughing his a** off at what a joke this team is

  702. rM teM says:

    there is no excuse

  703. metsfan42793 says:

Shea doesn’t deserve to go out this way

  704. nyj0126 says:

MLB.com must have some people in the Mets front office. It’s kind of fitting how they’re central headquarters in in New York City, don’t you think?

It’s funny. I’ve had decent service all year. Bad weather can screw with it sometimes. It can freeze and it’ll catch up like 10 seconds like a fast foward tape. It gave me enough to want to come back. Direct TV the year before just blacked out random games or would always leave out a few only giving you like 4-5 games a week. It’s amazing how 2 innings can decide whether or not you’ll give someone $180 again next year.

  705. nastyslider says:

    HUGE CHANGES IN THE OFFSEASON.

  706. metsflip says:

    Who is the Marlins closer?

  707. imtiredofguiseppefranco says:

for people who think the mets will actually “try” and win this game , need to wake up

  708. nyj0126 says:

I’ll be having a beer with Willie soon than too because it’s hard to take this team seriously as a Mets fan. I’d much rather see them have a sub .500 year next season so we don’t have to go through this all over again.

This offseason will be longer than last one. It’ll feel like it’s 10 months until what ever weird spring training jerseys come back and randon losers are competing for the 5 spot in the rotation.

  709. metsflip says:

You guys r talking about next year and this year isn’t even over yet…
Just wait for 3 more outs and you can talk about it ;)

  710. johnfromflushing says:

excuse makers please ….. the f ‘in brewers have 1 pitcher..

  711. FireOmar says:

My guess – 9th innning will be a tease. Then … over. I hope the fans have the wherewithall to stay for the post game festivities. There are a lot of great Mets there today from the past with bigger hearts than most on the 2008 team.

  712. metsfan42793 says:

    cmon arod jr

  713. imtiredofguiseppefranco says:

matt lindstrom, lmfao payback is a bit*h

  714. HOFMets57 says:

    1-2-3 inning…

  715. oleosmirf says:

    OMAR IS NOT TO BLAME

noone had any idea that the bullpen would be this bad, you want someone to blame how about willie randolph for losing all those games in april and may.

how about david wright for swing at ball 4 on a 3-0 pitch with no outs and a man on third

    • gipper82475 says:

      Oleo,

I blame Willie too….and he got what he richly deserved. But, Willie would not have been back to start the season if not for Omar pleading for him with the Wilpons.

Everybody knew the pen was thin and Omar did not improve it,

David had had an off year and the honeymoon is over, yet still drove in a club record (tie w/ Piazza) RBIs for a season.

  716. JoeDinBuffalo says:

    LETS GO METS

  717. metsfan42793 says:

wow matt lindstrom pitching the final inning at shea. just imagine if we still had him. imagine if we still had kazmir. ughhhhhhhhhh

  718. rM teM says:

for me this season started by going down to spring training for a week. going to see more games at shea than ever. watching the
rest on tv, all but about 6-7.
and all for this. it wasn’t even fun.

  719. Jim Bowden says:

YES, IT DEFINITELY WAS THE INJURIES!

    YOUR BALLS ALL WENT MISSING.

    HAHAHAHAHAHAHA

    YOUR FRIEND, JIM

  720. edwin nieves says:

Truly should change our name to the Melts cause when the heat is on that’s what we do.

  721. nyj0126 says:

Matt Lindstrom? He’ll sit em’ down. It’s only fitting an ex-Met of Omar’s will destroy us, right? Give it back to the Mets. Jacobs loves to do it too.

Who’s the happiest man on earth? It ain’t Willie. It’s Paulie Lo Duca in the dugout.

  722. HOFMets57 says:

    Break up the core.

I don’t care who. Reyes, Wright OR Beltran.

In fact, get rid of all 3!

    • wethreekings says:

      Oh shut up.

    • stillbelieve says:

that could probably be the dumbest thing ive ever heard. you honestly think we will be better off without them? your out of your f-ing mind.

GET RID OF THE WHOLE BULLPEN
AND WHY THE HELL WAS JOHN MAINE ACTIVATED IF HE WASNT GONNA SEE THE LIGHT OF DAY?

  723. nyj0126 says:

Paul Lo Duca, Willie Randolph, Matt Lindstrom, Mike Jacobs and a handful of others – probably even Heath Bell will all sleep good tonight.

  724. oleosmirf says:

and who holds the closing ceremonies after the game. what happens when they lose who would stay???

  725. RobGoBlue says:

Yes, the Brewers have one pitcher. He got them to the post-season. Omar, meanwhile, stood pat with an obviously flawed team. You tell me who deserves what.

  726. Fiya Minaya says:

Only fitting that a quality Minaya castoff (Lindstrom) end this abortion.

  727. metsforever says:

Gee whiz, why can’t the Mets get relief pitchers like this guy? He can throw.

    Oh, yeah……

  728. JoeDinBuffalo says:

    LETS GO METS!!

  729. rM teM says:

should’a taken one for the team

  730. imtiredofguiseppefranco says:

    clutch situations

ryan braun > dwright aka arod jr

    and its not even close

  731. FireOmar says:

    nice pop up!

  732. nyj0126 says:

I thought last year may have just been something bad. Just a fluke. It’s not.

This is it boys. Those 2006 Mets are as long gone as 2000. 2006 is actually more a lot like 2000.

  733. metsfan42793 says:

    END THE GAME ALREADY

  734. nyj0126 says:

At least we won’t end against the Marlins next year.

  735. nyj0126 says:

I would have felt so much better had the Mets just loss yesterday.

Because than the Brewers win today would have sealed the deal and we wouldn’t feel the pain of the Mets incompetence on today as much. Oddly enough, they probably would have won.

  736. nastyslider says:

    Look at the Bright side

We still have Santana for 5+ more years
The Bullpen will get changed ( you can count on it)
Castillo will hopefully be gone next year.

  737. imtiredofguiseppefranco says:

everyone should just leave the stadium and noone should stay for the celebration

    FU8CK THIS TEAM

  738. FireOmar says:

    wow.

  739. rM teM says:

all the time, effort and money i wasted on these losers

  740. PhuckDaMuts says:

So your team is full of chokers. At least you won’t have to see anymore of that armpit of a stadium. There is always next year.

    Go Phils!

  741. BBmetsfreak36 says:

urg….i really thought this time was going to be different

  742. metsforever says:

2006 was a one time deal. The team was built for one chance, take a look at the roster. They were old then and the staff was put together for one run. It was proven last year and made obvious this year.

    • SteamboatWilly says:

I could not agree more with this post it is absolutely the truth.

    • wheres.the.magic.number says:

unfortunately for 2008 we still have and depend on: Alou, Pedro, El Duque, (and now Castillo, Marlon & possibly Damon appear to fit that category also).

  743. MetsFan4Decades says:

It’s going to be a long, long off season.

I am just so damn disappointed. We do we always have to be the team to lose?

  744. nyj0126 says:

The moment we’ve all been waiting for.

Can the Marlins please jump on top of each other just to run it in their face? Can we see a little Braves clubhouse action?

  745. Gary Busey says:

    CONGRATULATIONS RED SOX

  746. Flushing_is_Burning says:

see you guys next season. bye shea. F U Omar!

  747. metsfan42793 says:

i think luis castillo is on deck

  748. Clutch says:

Julio Franco was released on July 1st. Rickey Henderson became the 1st base coach of the Mets soon after.

    Than the mortgage crisis.

Did I or any of these things curse the Mets?

  752. imtiredofguiseppefranco says:

krod is smiling alot now folks. he just earned another 50 million for what we were originally going to give him

  753. rM teM says:

    whatever

  754. metsflip says:

CAN’T WAIT TILL I FREAKING GO TO SCHOOL TOMMOROW AND HERE THE SAME CRAP AS LAST YEAR!!!!!!!

  755. MetsFan4Decades says:

Church on deck, waiting for a chance.

    HAHAHAHAHAHA !!

  756. Jim Bowden says:

SURE HOPE MY BOY RYAN GETS ANOTHER CHANCE.

    HAHAHAHAHYAHAHAHAHA

  757. imtiredofguiseppefranco says:

this hurts more than game 7 of the nlcs

  758. metsforever says:

Blow it up tomorrow. The ghosts of Shea and the deals with Satan made by the 86 team and the 69 Jets have to be put away.

  759. imtiredofguiseppefranco says:

i just started to cry and throw things, if church hits a hr God is a met fan

  760. rM teM says:

    here goes nothing

  761. metsforever says:

    K time

  762. redeeem team time for church to redeem himself for his last 6 ab’s what a time for a yakker

  763. gipper82475 says:

If there aren’t deafening FIRE OMAR chants during the ceremony, I will have lost all respect for my fellow Mets fans.

  764. lambay says:

well done there Easley! Just adding to the torture

  765. HOFMets57 says:

This is only prolonging the inevitable.

    Season OVER.

  766. FireOmar says:

    YOU GOTTA BELIEVE.

  767. metsflip says:

    WOOOOOOOOOOO HOOOOOOOOO!

  768. metsfaninmd says:

For everyone saying this was not a repeat of last year, you’re wrong, it was. When was the last time the Mets won a series? We split with the Nats. I’ll repeat that: we split a 4 game series with the worst team in the league. September came around and we couldnt win a series to save our lives. Pa-the-tic. I blame the bullpen because really, how could you not? But overall they have bad at-bats, swing at bad pitches and dont create offense. I’ve seen worse teams do all those things.

  769. metsfan42793 says:

i cant believe i thought that was gone

  770. FireOmar says:

    maby not.

    Good bye friends.

  771. Clutch says:

do you ever notice that when an event or celebration at shea occurs, they always lose…..Bob Murphy day…..lost to the Pirates( that was the game that Piazza played first for the very first time),…..celebration of the 1986 mets in 06..loss……..Mike Piazza day(his last day as a Met..loss….and now…last game at shea/…..another loss….can anyone think of a more fitting way to close out this POS stadium?

  772. MetsFan4Decades says:

    Wow. Nothing left to say.

  773. metsforever says:

At least the Yankees failed this year. I won’t have to listen to too much tomorrow.

  774. lambay says:

just like Piazza to end the Subway Series. Ah well

  775. metsfaninmd says:

    “abject disappointment” – Gary Cohen

The man has a way with words

  776. nyj0126 says:

    Don’t you just love it?

  777. kd bart says:

I thought it was all Luis Castillo’s fault. Not it is all Ryan Church’s fault.

THE #! REASON IS THE BULLPEN AND IT IS NOT EVEN CLOSE!!

14 games loss when they had the lead in either the 8th or 9th inning.

  778. gipper82475 says:

BLOW IT UP (the team…..bulldoze the stadium)

    • Danny1986 says:

      It’s almost funny….

Despite all the disappointment, elation, dedication, and rage I’ve felt with this team since April, I’m honestly relieved that this 2008 roller coaster ride is over. I can now go on and concentrate on being happy as opposed to letting this sorry band of losers get the best of me, my well-being, and all along allowing me to drive my wife crazy. Because they simply aren’t worth the energy. It’s plain as day.

Odd, as this just occured to me. I asked myself the question: Who on this team do I love/respect? Like I did Keith, Lenny, Wally, Leiter, Piazza, Straw, Carter, McDowell, Orosco, Olerud, Mookie, Fonzi, Mitchell…the list goes on…

The answer….2 guys on this current roster. Maine and Johan. Why? B/C they are gamers. They are the only guys in that clubhouse that are willing to say “Phuck it…everyone get on my back and I will carry us. We are not losing today!”. And then they go out and do what they have to do. Can we honestly say that about Reyes, Wright, Beltran (who probably has the most ability to do so), Delgado, etc.? Maybe at times, but never consistently. And we get the deer in the headlights look from the team ‘nucleus” far more than we do the opposite. They don’t have the balls. And that defines this team for me better than anything.

      Have a great winter, Gipper.

      Go Gmen.

  779. imtiredofguiseppefranco says:

everyone should leave the park. boo no celebration

    these marlin announcers r immature

  780. mr_met says:

oh great. only right after the last out came back on the mlb tv

  781. nyj0126 says:

Try living in the Philly area – they’ll probably lose anyway.

Abuse is coming for me I suppose… but I’ve turned my resignation papers is as a Mets fan I suppose a little after 5 lol

  782. HOFMets57 says:

    Omar = CULPRIT.

  783. damnit let the dismantling begin fire omar cut castillo, blow the bullpen up keeep smith only keep smith get rid of every one else no more alou and they neeed a season sweeep of the marlins next yr

  784. nyj0126 says:

    Resilient?

  785. metsforever says:

    HEILMAN DEAD
    SCHOENEWEIS DEAD
    NEIDERMAYER DEAD

Oops, guess I am aging myself.

    Go Giants.

See you all next year, or more likely on the hot stove edition.

  786. Wright88 says:

heh..kind of funny that Shea in part prevented 2 HR’s. Prolly would’ve been out in some of the smaller parks.

  787. nyj0126 says:

If Omar gets a 4 year extension, will this effect any of your guy’s dedication to the Mets?

    • MetsFan4Decades says:

      No.

    • rockets212 says:

it’ll effect my dedication to the current organization but not to the mets in total

    • Nate W. says:

I will not be a fan of the team until there is a new GM. Hibernation time for me.

I’ve been planning on writting a letter to the ownership informing them of this, but it apears the choice to retain the GM has already been made.

    • Two-By-Four says:

I’ve always had the philosophy that if ownership doesn’t care enough about their team to put a championship product on the field then why should I. After all no matter how many times we use the words, we, us, etc. when talking about the Mets they do not belong to us. In the end it is still a matter of entertainment. It’s like going to a movie. Wouldn’t you rather see a great motion picture than a mediocre one? Now maybe that’s the description of a fair weather fan or band wagon fan but it also describes a normal person. I don’t know about the rest of you guys but I’m going out tonight and have some fun.

  788. kd bart says:

And Gary the thing that did them in in all 3 years was the bullpen.

  789. Nate W. says:

How fitting that while the Mets pen has been spewing runs all year and they never found an 8th inning guy, a former farmhand that Omar Minaya gave away for nothing nails down the save that end the season after having a solid year as his teams 8th inning guy.

    Four more years!!!

  790. rM teM says:

I don’t think I’m going to post again until next year.
Goodbye until then everyone. I hope you all stay healthy until then.

  791. DMSMets says:

Jim…I didn’t realize a guy who hits .279 with 12 HRs in only 90 games is not MLB worthy. I guess we should just go ahead and take some of your other good players too….oh wait….you do not have 1 player on your team that I want on our team (not any more anyways…I always liked Church, even before he was the Mets)

Well…we missed the playoffs. Not that I was expecting otherwise after the first 70 or so games of this season. I don’t know whats more suprising….1) the fact that we were even in this position based on the performance of the team after the first 70 or so games…or….2) our horrendous bullpen.

    • kd bart says:

The day Wagner went down for the season, this team’s chances were severely compromised. An already poor bullpen was made that much worse. After Wagner went down, this team loss 7 games in which they had a 2+ run lead in the seventh inning or later. They loss 11 games when they had the lead going to the ninth. The Phils loss none. The bullpen was the deciding story, It was too much to overcome.

  792. EliPorter says:

    as bad as it gets

  793. nastyslider says:

OMAR HAS TO BE FIRED TONIGHT. THE WILPONS DON’T DESERVE TO TREAT FANS THIS WAY. NOT 1 PERSON IN THIS THREAD WANTS THAT PIECE OF CRAP BACK NEXT YEAR!!!!!!

  794. lil pelf says:

    shoulda got manny

  795. nyj0126 says:

Was it just the players again? And if it was just the players again this year like last, than why not hold the man responsible for putting the players on the field.

  796. SPR says:

It’s been great ranting and cheering and hoping against hope with you guys for 162 games. There are some idiots out there that make this site interesting.

    See you in April!

    GO CUBBIES!!!

  797. SPR says:

It’s been great ranting and cheering and hoping against hope with you guys for 162 games. There are some idiots out there that make this site interesting.

    YOURSELVES.

    CHOKERS 2x

Nice of them to bother to show up this series

  800. BullpenHelp says:

Don’t say this year was different.

Last 17 games, the Mets were 7-10, losing series to Atlanta twice, Florida once and splitting with the Nats and a Cubs team that didn’t care.

Last 17 games, the Phils were 14-3, only losing one series to the Braves while sweeping the Brewers, Braves and Nats and winning a series against the Fish.

If the Mets had lead by 7 games with 17 left to play, we’d have blown the lead again.

And you say this year was different.

  801. bittergreen says:

no matter how awful the bullpen was, 4 hits during this game is even worse.

  802. EliPorter says:

    looks like a graveyard

  803. Clutch says:

No…what will effect my dedication is if anyone other than Joe Smith comes back from this worthless bullpen……..what will also effect it is if he does not bring in some decent run producer who actually defines the word CLUTCH

  804. kd bart says:

Fire Omar. That will solve it all. He only made this team relevant again or have you all forgotten 2001-2004.

  805. danlx13 says:

    2009 bullpen :

    Stay:

    Maybe stays:

  806. Furioso says:

So glad our untouchable core put up such pretty stats this year

Until it counted the most anyway

    • Prismo says:

Pretty sure Beltran hit a 2-run homerun today.
Go root for the yankees you mother ****er.

      • Furioso says:

        And Wright “the captain”

        And Reyes “the sparkplug”

        ???

Enjoy your octber d**khead…..oh wait, THERE IS NO OCT FOR THIS TEAM

        • ridethesnake says:

Furioso — I hate you more than the Mets. I can’t imagine what people who know you feel about you, behind your back.

    • MetsFan4Decades says:

Man, I am as pissed as you but you truly are one miserable fan. There is no way I would follow this team if you can’t handle disappointment. 40 years now….

If you can’t take the heat, go take up knitting.

  807. nastyslider says:

    DO NOT RESIGN PEREZ!!!!!!!!!
    GET BURNETT INSTEAD

  808. imtiredofguiseppefranco says:

    BREAKING NEWS

    Johan Santana demands a trade

  809. Fiya Minaya says:

Do I get another apology letter from Wilpon? A firing of Minaya will suffice this year, Fred.

  810. imtiredofguiseppefranco says:

    LETS GO RAYS!!!!!!!!!!!

  811. nyj0126 says:

Wait, we should root for the Cubs?

The team that layed down like a prostitute in Atlantic City for the Brewers?

  812. erik says:

Oh well everyone. It was an interesting ride. Talk to y’all after the WS when the firings, trades and signings begin.

  813. MetsFan4Decades says:

No excuses. Don’t want to hear any of them. They just didn’t get it done. The BP sux.

I’ll be back next year, no matter what. I’ve been a fan for 40 years, through some really bad teams and some good ones. I can only hope Omar gets it done over the winter so next year they actually field a team who has a chance. And that means getting a BP that can compete.

  814. mrBill aka DWright says:

This loss is for WILLIE!!!!! Perfect payback for the way the Mutts organization treated him.

    Couldn’t ask for anything better!

    • ridethesnake says:

If Willie was 35-34 instead of 34-35 they make the playoffs. Most of this season is his fault.

      • ccmetfan says:

had they fired Willie during the Rockie road trip or instead of having the useless meeting, things might’ve been different. Anyway, the players have to their jobs and it’s on them, not the coaches or managers.

  815. domosnacks5 says:

Well, there’s nothing I can say besides that was truly the sorriest thing I’ve ever seen. Absolutely disgusting. I’m not going to let it effect me this year. All you naysayers were right. Furioso, you’re right. My blind loyalty was for naught. I thought that the team would really try to win this for the fans, truth is, they don’t care. I personally have spent about 2,000 of my own dollars on tickets and gear this year, and that is alot for a 21 year old. Won’t make that mistake again.

Wilpon’s better do their damnedest to fix this. I want none of these gutless spineless jellyfish ballplayers besides Santana, Murphy, Joe Smith, and Endy next year. Wright, Beltran, and Reyes can stay too, but they clearly aren’t the leaders that the ownership tries to portray them to us.

Congrats to CC, the Brewers, and the Phils. And even the troll Phils fans. Your team had guts, wish I could say the same. I’m going to need to take a while to gather my thoughts, and watch this postgame ceremony. Thank god we’re done with this house of horrors.

    • domosnacks5 says:

This doesn’t mean I won’t be back, I just can’t see myself spending all this money on a team that gives me nothing but pain in return.

Hopefully Omar can put a roster of quality people and ballplayers together, because I do genuinely think Jerry should be back, but I can’t see Omar bringing back the manager of a collapse again and making that mistake, but by NO means does Jerry deserve to lose his job.

The 37 guys we’ve been carrying the past 30 days do.

  816. fulltilt720 says:

    im going to kill myself.

    • nyj0126 says:

It’s only a baseball game lol Relax. Could you say you didn’t see it coming? Don’t harm yourself. Challenging the spirits above to not guide this thing is much more realistic. The ghosts were in the way.

I can’t people are yelling “choke” outside, it can be heard on post game live.
The Mets tried their best but it wasn’t enough. The offense has to be taken care of this off season along with the bullpen. Can’t wait for 2009, the new, younger mets hopefully.

    • Furioso says:

5 runs in the final 3 games is “trying their best”

      ??

      Yet another battered wife.

    • darknova says:

Hey, they fans SHOULD be yelling ‘choke’. This team was gutless. This was a pathetic effort. Those guys need to hear it from us big time. Hoping for a big shakedown this offseason.

  818. nyj0126 says:

Phillies in Atlanta this year: 9-0

    Mets in Atlanta: 1-8

If the Mets had gone 4-5, we’d be tied.

Let’s think about some more details.

Mets up 7-0 on a Pedro start in Philly. Philly comes back to win 8-7 in 13 innings. Mets don’t score for 9 straight innings.

Wait? Is that it? Mets up 5-2 after 8 innings from Johan against the Phillies. Mets give up 6 runs in the 9th with what started out by Duaner’s back-to-back-to back identical singles.

That separated 4 games right there. Forget the Braves games right there. Had the Mets won those two games, they would have finished 2 ahead of the Phillies.

What a disgrace this team is.

    • MetfaninFL says:

What about the 4 games in SD that we lost in June? What about the game against the Brewers where Perez was staked to a huge lead and blew it? You can pick and choose any game of the season and say gee we should have won it but the bottom line is we are one game worse than Milwaukee.

  819. Furioso says:

    gutless chokers

    • domosnacks5 says:

as much crap as I’ve given you the past weeks. You were right.

Just thought I’d try to clear the air, you know this team, and although I try to be more optimistic, you were certainly more REALIstic. Hopefully we can talk more in the offseason about how to fix this mess.

      Just want to make amends.

      • Two-By-Four says:

We’re all Mets fan and want them to do well. We root in different ways but that’s what makes it great. The players tried but perhaps they tried too hard to the point where they pressed a bit on offense. The bullpen, though, belongs on a last place team. They singlehandedly sunk the ship.

  820. Clutch says:

No but David Wright is gonna say that this really isn’t last year over again and that he knows they owed us one….but now they owe the fans two

  821. Darth Manuel says:

unless major changes are made in the offseason I will not follow the Mets next season or until they do.. I cannot handle MENTAL WEAKNESS.. AND LACK OF LEADERSHIP

    • ridethesnake says:

You’d prefer he was a jerk? He is 25 and had a down year, relax. He was money last September. It’s “fans” like you that get in his head. Thanks for ruining him and the Mets. Yes, I blame you directly and “fans” like you.

      • Furioso says:

You know what? If the fans can “ruin him” then f**k him anyway.

The fans have a right to be upset. This team let them down. There’s no other way to say it. They’ll be many loyal fans such as plenty of you guy’s and sadly even myself even if I don’t want to admit it who’ll return, but they’ll be much less of us. There’s no deny in that. The intensity will slowly dwindle.

Maybe leaving Shea Stadium will leave some of the ghosts behind. It still is a game and now we get a nice stadium – not a slimey one anymore. So let’s not bring any of the haunted memories from last season.

The core of this team is still amazing. It’s literally like a seasaw though. The bullpen is a 0 on a 1-10 scale, where as the rest of the team ranges from 8-9. The lack of consistency in the offense has dragged the Mets down, but everyone except for Johan and a couple other’s have not been clutch.

Eff Citi Field and the New York Muts…….hey wright, now you can go worry about whether ur gonna start either Rex Grossman or Scott Norwood on your fantasy football teams with your other fairy brothers…….yes, that was in reference to other big game choke artists

  832. Nate W. says:

where can one actually shake up this team?

changing the core of the team means trading one of Beltran, Wright, or Reyes. Who actually wants that? Just letting Delgado and Perez go isnt a huge move, imo.

You say what they really need are some dirt dog role players. But what of Easley and Chavez, they fill that role. Maybe more are needed.

Do we let Degado leave and bring in the circus that is Manny Ramirez. Probably on contract that is good for 2009, but bad from 2011-2013 or so.

Trading Castillo, Heilman, and Schoe will make most of us feel better, but does it really do much? Not really, imo.

    • SteamboatWilly says:

Easley and Chavez?? Chavez is an absolute instant out at the plate…..lets move on and away from both these scrubs.

  833. Darth Manuel says:

    For me personally…

Omar needs to do fix THESE things…

GET RID OF EVERY COACH THAT WAS A PART OF WILLIE’S METS. EVERYONE IN THAT BULLPEN OTHER THAN SMITH NEEDS TO GO.. AND OF COURSE

    BRING BACK

BOBBY VALENTINE…—he is the only way I come into next season with any positivity towards this franchise

    • MetsFan4Decades says:

Bring back Valentine – again? What are we the Yankees and Billy Martin? There was a reason they fired him once.

      • Darth Manuel says:

FIRE JERRY!!! He had his shot and he let us down.. He and the rest of the Willie crew should be banned from Citi field. Hojo is a joke.. a fuking joke…

  834. WrightsRight says:

Go Cubs – hopefully they win and hopefully the Phils collapse miserably…

Horrible ending to a rollercoaster of a season.

The changes this team needs to make are clearcut. They might not be easy to make but we know what they are.

    • nyj0126 says:

The only team in the NL Playoffs I hold no resentment too are the Los Angeles Dodgers.

I believe the Cubs are a weak bunch to score so little off this team. The Brewers took the Wild Card and the Phillies took the Division. I’d much rather see an AL team do it – even if it were the Red Sox. I’m rooting for Tampa Bay. Ozzie Guillen is an annoyance so I’m rooting for Minnesota there. They gave us a gift in Johan so maybe they do deserve a little luck.

And the Angels? The team to beat in my mind. Oh Carlos Beltran – you did come through today. Can’t say you didn’t. But please don’t say something like that next spring training.

Also, I don’t want to hear about how John Maine’s injury effected the Mets. Nor Billy Wagner’s. Billy Wagner started out the year on a great hot streak until he blew 3 saves in a row right before Willie got fired. This was ironically when the Mets began to turn a corner though.

It’s like Billy Wagner did well when the Mets were mediocre and than the Mets did well when Billy Wagner lost it.

What were Billy Wagner’s stats since the first of those three consecutive saves? Not very good. He saved less than 80% of his games. If you want to throw the All-Star game in there too which was true pay back to other NL clubs, it’s even lower too.

If we couldn’t win with Pelfrey on the mound on Friday. He didn’t actually pitch bad, but he was winless against the Marlins this year. I believe he was 0-4. John Maine wasn’t pitching well before the injury. I’m not saying he would have hurt, but when you only score 2 runs there’s only so much that can happen.

This season can be related to one game this week. Look at Daniel Murphy getting on 3rd with no one out. No one cashing in. David Wright? What about two of the three previous innings? What about the 1st, 2nd and 3rd innings of Friday?

  835. nyj0126 says:

The development in Mike Pelfrey was a bright spot too. This team had such a more productive roster.

It makes me feel a little better than the Mets started out on the bottom and work there way up. It took some courage to play through injuries. I won’t forget that Santana start nor the Tatis Carlton Fisk impression. I just think there’s a load of things that can be complemented to this roster.

I believe you have to sign K-Rod. I think Ollie did good enough today to prove he at least deserves to be re-signed, but I wouldn’t get ripped off on him. I’m thinking in the 11 or 12 MM a year ball park is fair.

    • kd bart says:

The Phils took a chance on Lidge, who looked awful at the end in Houston, and it paid off. Man didn’t blow a save all season. No guarantee he’ll do that next season. Remember Turnbow. Great one year. Awful the next. The 2006 were so good because Sanchez and Wagner basically made the 8th and 9th inning a lock. Since, Sanchez’s taxi accident, it just hasn’t been the same. The Mets haven’t had that dominant 8th inning guy since. Heilman being the biggest failure at that role.

  836. metsforever says:

And to make things really bad, I had Denver in the Suicide Pool.

  837. JoseReyesForPresident says:

DO WE DESERVE THIS…I MEAN WOW 5 RUNS IN THOSE 3 GAMES…5 RUNS!!!!!!! YOU KNOW WHAT IF SILLIE PHANS WANNA CALL THEM CHOKERS AGAIN SO BE IT THATS WHAT THEY LOOK LIKE….SERIOUSLY IF MINAYA DOESNT DO SOMETHING WITH THAT BULLPEN…WE ARE GOING TO REPEAT THE SAME CRAP IN 2009 AND THESE GUYS DONT CARE ALOT ATLEAST SOME DONT BUT WE DO WE PAY TO SEE THIS TEAM AND FOR WHAT TO CHOKE IN THE LAST GAME AT SHEA…UNBELIEVABLE

  838. kd bart says:

Stop looking for other excuses. This was a bullpen story all the way. The #1 reason and it is not even close. Even the games they won down the stretch were a struggle because the bull pen could not be trusted with any kind of league. The bullpen will be cleaned out and replaced but there is no guarantee that it will be any better. Middle relief is the hardest thing to build. A reliever who can look great one year, can be downright awful the next and vice a versa.

    • MetsFan4Decades says:

So true, it’s all a crap shoot. That being said, the BP needs a major overhaul. Need more than one arm that can get rightly/lefty outs. Too many specialists.

      • Furioso says:

        “BP is a crapshoot”

Already making excuses for 2009? GOOD LORD

      • kd bart says:

They need a Sanchez before the taxi accident. The bullpen just hasn’t been the same since then. The 2006 Mets were confident they would win any game they led going to the 8th before the accident. In 2008, to a man, do you think the mets were ever confident with anything less than a 6 run lead going to the 8th inning.

  839. bigvito22 says:

  842. greg914 says:

Get another starting pitcher. Burnett or Sabathia. Three good starters for next year, Santana, Pelfrey and Maine.

    5-6 new relievers including K-Rod.

Consider trading the softee David “D-Rod” Wright. He is as soft as A-Rod and needs to get the hell out of here as the face of the franchise and the choking.

    Fire Minaya, keep Manuel.

  843. X-Man says:

Well, can’t say I’m surprised. Different year, same results. What’s that tell you? If we keep Wright, Beltran & Reyes, then we have to surround them with clutch players and winning players. This team is made up of “Individuals” with good “Individual” numbers and stats, that’s it. Only one on this team who has that “Winning” attitude and clutch personality is Santana, but he can only help every 5th day. We need players like Santana on the offensive side. I won’t even get into the BP because that’s been well documented. Simply put, WORSE BP in baseball on a team with the BIGGEST payroll in the league. Just two less blown saves out of the 30 they blew and we would be talking about the post season.

Now, it’s time to switch gears and think Football., GO GIANTS!!!!!!!!

  844. Darth Manuel says:

Yeah, it’s not like he was hitting over .300 before his second concussion and was the Mets best player the first two months of the season and was one one of the only reasons their record wasn’t much worse. The concussion threw his season completely off track. It was obvious, he wasn’t the same player after he came back.

    • kd bart says:

You do realize that the Brewers had a 5 game lead on the Mets going into September and went 10-16 for the month to almost blow a playoff spot. Neither the Mets or the Phils were looking at the wildcard going into the month.

    • MetsFan4Decades says:

No. I want the money and effort to be spent on pitching. We need a starter, we need a BP. We don’t need another aging outfielder with deteriorating defensive skills who only might bring a bat to the table. Haven’t we learned something?

      • Two-By-Four says:

Have you seen his numbers with the Dodgers:

        .396BA .489OBP .743SLG 213OPS+

These numbers don’t belong to just another good bat. He had 53 rbi in just 187 at bats.

  850. techwonV27 says:

Who here thinks Church should get the automatic RF job next year????? If you think he should please tell me why because I can’t think of ONE reason why………..

    • nyj0126 says:

The only reason why he’ll probably be there is because a lot of his trade value has been diminished since his two concussions. He’s a risk. Who else could play RF for the Mets?

The Mets have a group of guy’s who’ll be back here. Angel Pagan, Daniel Murphy, Nick Evans among others. I can see Murphy starting.

I just don’t see how you don’t start Church unless you trade him for someone else unless Fernando Martinez is ready. What value does he have to the Mets if he doesn’t start? There’s no doubt in my mind that Xavier Nady is much better and the Mets should have him.

I’d actually be open to the idea of signing Bobby Abreu and trading Ryan Church for some bullpen help. The Yankees may want to go younger and got money coming off the books now. He’ll provide the same thing, but make a trade can help our bullpen.

If Church is healthy, he can put up 25 home runs, bat .300 and play a solid RF. Injuries and the Mets woes lingered on to him. It’s not just him. Wright could have done better. Among others.

Why should Brian Schneider or Ramon Castro be penciled in as the catcher? Because they’re signed? Didn’t those guy’s drag down our line up? I know Lo Duca wouldn’t have done any better. But losing the 2006 version of Lo Duca killed this line up.

  851. nyj0126 says:

We can get true pay back on Milwaukee.

Sign C.C. Sabathia. If the Mets had two Johan’s which is what C.C’s talent level basically is, the Mets win both these games this weekend and the Brewers lose both of there’s.

If you let Oliver go, you get some picks. If you sign C.C, you lose some picks. Ollie will cost anywhere from 11 to 13 MM, where as C.C. will cost roughly 10MM more. We have more tan 30MM coming off the books after Johan’s pay hike, Alou, Pedro, El Duque and other’s departures.

They should use all 30MM, if not more as due with inflation and a new stadium. I say you give C.C. a similar deal to Johan. And look at Fuentes or someone via trade.

  852. Clutch says:

i was hoping for another concussion last week….almost happened but the baby ran around the catcher

  853. DMSMets says:

nastyslider…why don’t you want to re-sign Perez? Perez wasn’t the reason we lost today, or the reason we blew a chance at the postseason. Just a comparision….
    Perez (doesn’t include today)
    10-7 4.25 ERA 188.2 IP 174 Ks 102 BB 1.34 WHIP .235 BAA 33 games (all starts)

    Burnett:
    18-10 4.07 ERA 221.1 IP 231 Ks 86 BBs 1.34 WHIP .249 BAA 35 games (34 starts)

So, neither pitcher is lights out. Although Burnett does have better K/BB ratio, their ERA is similar, WHIP is similar, and an edge to Burnett in IP and an edge to Perez in BAA. Burnett is also older (by 4 years) and in terms of Ks and IP, he set career highs this year. He also has had some injury problems (only gotten over 150 IP 5 times in his 10 year career).

I know its easy to look at ERA and give Burnett the edge, but if you average 30 starts a year, the ERA difference only amount to about a total of 5 total runs difference. So would you sacrifice 4 years of age for about 5 runs per season? Put it this way…age indicates that Perez probably hasn’t peaked yet and Burnett already has. I’ll keep 4 extra years of youth with Perez instead of 5 runs and few more Ks every year.

    • DMSMets says:

I thought I’d add to my last post that I would take Perez over Burnett. But not Perez over a potential ace that we might could pick up. If we have a good shot at an ace or at least #2 pitcher, I’d take him over Perez (not to mention we’d get a couple picks out of not re-signing Perez).

    • nyj0126 says:

Burnett’s an injury risk. No one even knows if he’ll opt out. Toronto will spend money. They’ll give him an extension.

Here’s why I’d rather get Ollie. One, Ollie doesn’t get hurt. Sure, he’s inconsistent, but he’s gotten better. Ollie’s handled the New York atmosphere before. A.J.’s been in Florida and Canada. Secondly, A.J has been in the AL East. All the Yankees, Red Sox and Rays would love to get him out of Toronto and onto their teams so they’ll pay up.

What makes AL teams think Ollie can succeed there? Texas is pretty dumb with money so maybe them – but I think Ollie’s a Met to remain. It’s probably not a good thing to carry the dynamic of this team into next season, but I do think Oliver’s come a long way. If we lose Oliver, you really are a big loser in the Nady trade too. I’d call it even if the Mets re-sign Perez.

      • DMSMets says:

I completely agree, nyj0126…Perez is tried and true in NY. Granted, he is no ace but he is certainly a good middle of the rotation pitcher. And I’ll say again, if we know we can go out and get a big time SP (like Sabathia) then obviously I would be in favor taking Sabathia or someone else like that over Perez. But…SP isn’t really our problem. We need to focus our offseason efforts on fixing the problem. That being the bullpen.

Also, on a side note….what is Pedros contract situation looking like? I guess he is still has a couple years left, right? But, if he is contract is up this year….I would certainly take a chance on Burnett rather than re-signing Pedro. But, like I said, I think he does still have some more time on his contract, but can anyone verify that for me? Thanks.

        • wheres.the.magic.number says:

could you really deal with another season of Pedro – will he make 15 starts or or wont he. will he give up 3 runs in the 1st inning of every game…. his last game was gutsy, but everyone needs to be realistic at this point. it’s been 3 yrs since he could dominate. if a rookie came up and three typical Pedro games, 5 IP 5 runs, –> the rookie would be sent down for good.

    • Two-By-Four says:

Burnett pitched against the AL East while Perez pitched in a much weaker division in a much weaker league. It’s like comparing apples and oranges.

  854. imtiredofguiseppefranco says:

  855. Darth Manuel says:

How could any of you want Jerry Manuel back next season.. He completely blew this.. I don’t want to see anyone from this coaching staff anywhere near CITI field.

    • DMSMets says:

Yep you’re right. Manuel blew this. The guy went out there and intentionally gave up HRs to Uggla and Helms and then forced our offense to manage just 5 runs in the final 3 games.

Come on….Manuel isn’t great by any means, but without him this team wouldn’t have been in a position to blow it because we’d have been eliminated in August. Place the blame where it belongs…on the freakin bullpen.

Blow up the pen and start over, They should have a whole new bullpen opening day next year.

  862. NYP-BOS-NYP says:

I am going to say little today, because right now everybody is angry and thus many are saying ridiculous things.

Yeah, call me names, furioso and others, go ahead. But this team is not bad. They just weren’t good enough. Do we need a new bullpen? Yes. Do we need to work on situational hitting? Yes. Do we need to fire the entire front office and blow up the entire team? No, we do not. We ended up with the fourth best record in the NL. That’s fourth out of sixteen teams, and we missed being third by one game.

No, that’s not good enough, but it’s not indicative of a team that’s “terrible” or needs to be “blown up” like so many of us are saying now out of anger and frustration.

I’m bummed, but the writing was on the wall, and has been there for weeks. Nevertheless, we remained competitive right up to the end, despite overwhelming odds. I suppose that’s a small accomplishment, but it’s an accomplishment nonetheless, and it’s something to build on, not something to throw away and start over.

I believe after a few days or perhaps weeks, when everyone gets the rants and raves and cursing out of their systems, after cooler heads prevail, I think most of us will realize that this was not the worst Mets season of all time. It’s not even close.

Talk to you all in a few days.

Good post. At least we have a few rational people still here.

    • Two-By-Four says:

I hope you realize that all of next year this team will constantly be reminded of the dual collapse. Do you think it will be an easy experience for them to go through? Do you think the players will not have lingering doubts in their mind? That’s the only reason you may have to consider a trade that you would not have otherwise made. You saw how this team began the season. The small amount of research I have done shows that teams that have epic collapses (and in this case follow it with another devastating ending) generally follow it with bad seasons.

A few questions exist. Tough ones too.

I love how great a hitter Manny Ramirez, but what is this really going to do? Have any of you guy’s looked at the Mets offensive numbers?

No one can say Reyes crunched. Wright did for a little while, but he got hot. Didn’t Beltran? And my lord, what about Delgado? Wasn’t he amazing? If it weren’t for Delgado, would have any of these games even counted?

So signing Manny Ramirez would just be tipping the seasaw in one direction over the other. Not an intelligent idea if you ask me.
Starting pitching is not the problem either. This is one of our greatest strengths. We need to re-sign Oliver Perez. I don’t want Lowe, Burnett, Sheets or who ever else out there who’s in the same ballpark but is either older or more injury prone. Ollie’s a Met. He was who we traded Xavier Nady for. Xavier was not a guy we should have every traded, but for Ollie it was worth the price.

Trading Nady for Perez may have actually be one of the best because it follows the philosophy of pitching over hitting. You need to have both. The Mets got a lot out of Fernando Tatis this year, as did Nick Evans and Daniel Murphy. Even Angel Pagan in the first month too and Endy in the next couple after that. There can’t be no revolving doors in the line up again. We need to have a concrete 8 man line up. The only exception can be using a combination of Schneider and Castro.

  864. Ellen says:

I am really emotional about all this right now. I hate the season ending as it did and I hate to say goodbye to Shea. It was a garbage can but it was “our” garbage can.

    • nyj0126 says:

I couldn’t agree more. I’ll unfortunately have to remember this season the way it ended, but it doesn’t mean it has to be the end of the Mets. It’s just major things need to change. Leaving this stadium will be a fresh new beginning all of us can use.

It’ll take time. All I can recommend to Mets fans is do what ever is in your power to just not think about baseball for a few days. If you want, watch the playoffs and root against the Phillies. And than take a deep breath and start from scratch and hope for change.

If we had a mediocre bullpen, the Mets could have won 95 to 100 games. I believe they blew 29, 11 in which were in the ninth. I’m not sure what the exact number is that they won of those games – let’s say it’s 10. So out of those other 19, if the Mets had just blown half the amount – they would have had 98 wins. The best in baseball.

It says a lot about our line up in the long run – even if not in the last week. It says something about our starting pitching. It even says something about Jerry Manuel for changing these guys.

  865. nyj0126 says:

The hitting wasn’t clutch nor consistent – but who ever is brought in will follow this same dynamic. Statistics do speak for themselves in terms of walks, first inning runs, three 110+ RBI guys, a great middle of the order, a lead off guy with 50+ stolen bases who could have been an MVP candidate.

I know it sounds crazy, but I really do believe we had one of the top 3 offensive line ups in the NL and 5 in all of baseball. And I believe the same statement can apply to both our starting pitching and the depth we’ve had on our bench to work through the injuries.

However, we arguably had the worse bullpen. Even worse than the Pirates who barely even have a closer themselves. This dragged down the team.

The only two guy’s that should return to the bullpen are Joe Smith and Brian Stokes. The reason why I say hold onto Stokes is it’s a low risk to hold onto him as a long man. He may prove to be alright, maybe not. And I say Joe Smith because he held it together better than any other reliever.

I don’t want to see Feliciano or Schoenweis back, but if I’m going to pick one of the two I pick Feliciano because he’s younger, cheaper and has shown he’s more durable to pitch in numerous games.

Aaron Heilman has to go. He can’t be a starting pitcher on this team. It’d create the risk of being knocked back into the bullpen. Just trade him. Even if it’s not for a lot. He’s burnt out. He doesn’t want to be here.

Don’t re-sign Luis Ayala. A little bit of a tougher call, but if you do make it a cheap signing. The reason why I say don’t bring back Ayala is because he had a horrible season. Just because he threw slightly above average with the Mets doesn’t justify he’s a good pitcher. Just look at how Guillermo Mota transformed. If you sign him, make it cheap and make him earn his way onto the team. Don’t just give it to him.

So if we’re being responsible and realistic and look at trades and the FA market, here’s what the bullpen looks like:

    Stokes – Long Reliever
Middle Reliever – (Fill in the Blank)
Short/Middle Relief – Ambiorix Burgos or Eddie Kunz
    Feliciano – Lefty specialist
    Joe Smith – Righty Specialist
Set-Up Man – (Fill in the Blank)
Closer – (Fill in the Blank)

  866. nyj0126 says:

I don’t know about the rest of you guys, but the one thing I’d really love to see is what I’d call this.

”The beginning of a New Era.”

    Forget about 2005, 2006, 2007 and 2008.

Forget about the sucess of 2006 and the crunches of 07′ and 08′.

Give me a new general manager. Or at least just don’t give him an extension. Give me a new manager. Yes, a new manager. Now the man who was the bench coach 05-08 and a part of our recent history. Get a new pitching coach. Get new 1st and 3rd base coaches (especially that base), a new bullpen coach among others.

Hold the core of the roster and provide some of a new momentum.

    We need a new chapter.

  867. nyj0126 says:

Would all of you guy’s be open to that idea?

No Omar, no Jerry, no Sandy Alomar, no Louie Aguayo, no Ken Oberkfell, no Pedro Martinez, no El Duque, no Moises Alou, no Billy Wagner, no more signing old players.

Give me something new. Just because one era starts doesn’t mean you can’t bring back the guy’s wh you need. The guy’s who can still make you better.

A new stadium should have a new manager. Maybe the problem with 08′ was we carried too much of 07’s baggage. Particularly Willie and the bullpen.

    • Ellen says:

I think it is a good idea. You cannot put this on any one individual. I was never in favor of replacing Willie with Manuel but he did a good enough job with what he inherited. Now is the time though to really think if he is the one to take us past this next year. I am not convinved he is.

  868. docgoodens8ball says:

Aguayo needs to go too. He is terrible. Stevie Wonder would be a better 3B coach.

  869. LL says:

This really sux bad. But for some reason I am not going ballistic over here. I’m not totally depressed. I have not lost my mind. Maybe because it’s not surprising, with what we went through last year. Maybe because of our rough start.

But this all started with Duaner and the taxi cab incident in Miami. We lost our 8th inning setup guy because of that and Xavier Nady, a very consistently hitting above average RF with pop that provided balance in the lineup good production and protection out of the 6 spot. That incident is still haunting the Mets today.

Changes will definitely be made for next year. The obvious one being the bullpen. Minaya will work well for this team. He will get what we need.

    New era next year!
