Marlins C Paul Lo Duca, speaking to reporters following yesterday’s season-ending defeat of the Mets, said:
“Let’s put it this way, I’ll sleep well tonight…I have a lot of friends over there, I feel for them and for their fans. But, I feel nothing for their upper management.”
In 67 games for the Nationals and Marlins this season, Lo Duca hit .243 with no home runs and just 15 RBI.
…i heard an unconfirmed story yesterday that, on Friday night, in front of Mike Piazza, Tom Seaver and other Mets notables, Marlins SS Hanley Ramirez proclaimed, ‘There will be no post-season in New York this season, gentlemen.’…like i said, i don’t know that this is 100 percent true, but does it matter…seriously…
…what’s interesting is that, despite the Phillies winning the NL East for the second-straight season, and despite all the agony that has been caused by Bobby Cox and the Braves over the years, it is the Marlins who i hope to go 0–162 next season…

Too bad all that sleeping won’t make him taller.
hahaha
Or hit better.
Or salvage his marriage.
or remove his name from the mitchell report
Or megans law.
HAHA
It’s offical I dislike the Phillies and Marlins more than the Braves.
It’s official I hate everyone in the NL East
Nationals, I can live with. Just not Dukes.
So Lo Duca is saying that Roids doesn’t affect your sleep huh.
best part of my weekend was starting a “Where’s your needle?” chant on Friday night when he stepped into the on-deck circle.
Does anybody know if steriods makes you talk smack more? There are a few guys on the Marlins team that I wouldn’t mind taking a baseball bat to. lol
I thought he said he wanted us to have bad memories?
So Reyes is the reason other teams hate us, huh? I think it’s Omar.
I guess we should have given him an extension to play 67 games. I guess roids DO rot your mind.
I couldn’t care about anyone less than Paul LoDuca. He’s a pedophile, gambler, steroid abuser and borderline dealer, and a whiny loser who was owed absolutely nothing by this organization. To say nothing of being a scrub who was released this year by the worst team in the game.
The game of baseball is worse for people like Paulie “Mets fan” LoDuca.
Sleep better knowing you didn’t have the balls to call off Guillermo Mota, you piece of garbage.
If he was still a Met I’m pretty sure you wouldn’t be saying that.
with his 2008 production…he prolly would still say those things.
touche
Actually, I hated Paul LoDuca as a Met. He was a phony and rarely got it done in crunch time. Last September he cost us two games with bonehead throwing decisions that sailed into the OF.
He had a nice year in 2006, but to me he was one of the central reasons for last year’s divided clubhouse and late-season failures and I was glad he was sent packing.
He certainly made no one forget Mike Piazza. Lo Duca was a loudmouthed bum and always will be.
It is easy to sleep when there is no more bruise on you buttocks from those Roid injections…enjoy the rest of your meaningless existence Paulie…love your “fire”
Loduca should just shut his pie hole and go get some dirt bag hoe’s from long island like he was doing for 2 years in NY…..
It’s pretty sad when a team has to pride itself in being a spoiler, not even a contender. That’s about as sad as having 600 people show up to a home game.
Is it sad having 2 World Series in the past 12 seasons. I am pretty certain that puts them only behind the Yankees in the time span.
Why is everybody so angry? The only ones to blame are the Mets. Let’s not cast blame or judgement onto other teams like last year. The Mets don’t know how to take care of their business which makes the song played after wins sickly ironic. It used to be my favorite song, but now I wish the Mets would just change it.
Boston?
Only behind the Yanks. They are tied with Boston.
Yeah, the Marlins are losers in the truest sense of the word. They couldn’t even make it to September.
And if Hanley Ramirez has so little respect for the game that THAT is what he chooses to do when standing in front of the game’s greats, to hell with him too. It was their “world series” yesterday and he wasn’t even in the lineup.
I loved it when Keith said that ramirez’ .302 BA couldn’t become .299 on the bench.
What a tough guy he is, no wonder the Sox traded him and didn’t blink an eye.
well, they traded him to get josh beckett. i don’t think either team is losing sleep on the trade.
exactly.
^^^that was to the warrior.
that is pretty funny…actually. I could actually see some truth behind that.
Neither could your squad chump.
Someone needs to grow up.
Its always tough to come to grips with the fact that your borderline MLB career was over 2 years ago.
We need to always remember next year how much the other teams in the NL east really hate us. We need to pummel them all good all year and make it so the last month of the season doesn’t matter. All of them get totally psyched to have a chance to knock us out. I knew the Marlins would be totally pumped for this weekend.
Who do the Mets play to end next regular season?
I heard the Astros.
Houston Astros
ugh the Mets have been bad against them too, why can’t we close against the Rockies or somebody
Loduca will sleep well tonight… with his kid’s 16 year old babysitter.
What a piece of trash, good thing you helped in any matter in that win with your TWO AT BATS THE WHOLE SERIES JUICEFACE
Obviously the Marlins are just jealous that their so-called “fans” don’t even care enough about the team to be upset they didn’t make it to the post-season. I live in South Florida and nobody cares about the Marlins…I’ve never even met a Marlins fan. They do NOT exist.
Jealousy is the only explanation for the vitriol directed at us Met fans. The whole media world seems to feel the same as the Marlin players in being happy we are, yet again, heartbroken.
And Lo Duca shows his true colors with his quotes. Can’t believe I ever rooted for such a “small” man.
hanley ramirez is the best dh playing ss in baseball
Reading the Mitchell Report, everything revolved around this piece of trash. Everyone that was a former or current teammate of his got referred to Radomski by him. He’s a POS and should be treated the same way Bonds has been, all 30 teams not offering him a job.
LoDuca can say whatever he wants, so can any of the other Marlins. I saw them celebrating like little leaguers yesterday and it bothered me, but not as much as the Mets not showing up for the biggest game of the season for 2 years in a row. Unbelievable…
But if we would have celebrated at all they would have called us bush league, nice double standard.
you are right
I agree…I thought it was Bush League for this team to celebrate as if they won the World Series. I’m glad I got to chant, “Off our Field!” I hope the Mets remember that next year. I hope they remember how Hanley taunted the team in front of Met greats. Next year will be retribution! LET’S GO METS! I would yell but I have no voice as I lost it at Saturdays game. Good times! :-D
I thought this year was supposed to be retibution from last year.
thats what I thought too.
On the first pitch of the last game of 2007 Hanley Ramirez should have been wearing baseballs for earrings after the post he put on the Mets locker room “F— the Mets” last year.
Leo Durocher would had had him laying on the ground at every AB for the rest of his life when he faced his team.
However. Let’s get it right.
Willie Mays said, when asked how he consistenly hit over 300, “if you get one hit off a good pitcher that’s OK but you have to tear apart mediocre pitching”
The Mets scored 5 runs in 27 innings of the most important games of the season so set’s not put it all on the bull pen. The core of this team must be broken up or you will have another A-Rod-Yankees situation. Plenty of potential but no pennants.
This is all on the bullpen.
What hurts the most is these bums knocking us out of contention two straight years. I could care less what they say — words mean nothing. As NJMike points out, the Mets need to pummel the other teams in the division. The Mets should be motivated by this, and for good measure, how about a fastball in Hanley’s ribs the first time we see them in ‘09…
exactly
this team will never hit anyone they are all a bunch of whimps. we’ve been waiting for 3 years for someone on the phillies or braves or marlins to get drilled and it never happens. This team is a afraid of a fight literally and figuratively, and THAT is something that has to change or they will never take that next step.
Absolutely. This team took almost no hissy fits this year. They almost never let a rival team know how rattled they are by giving them free bases. If they’d tearfully thrown at Jo Jo Reyes head just once they’d have won the division for certain.
Last Friday afternoon I mentioned to a friend the Pelfrey’s 1st pitch to Ramirez should be high and tight. The 2nd p itch should have been in the same location. I believe in the old Bob Gibson philosophy in the outer 1/3rd of the plate belonging to the pitcher. I didn’t see this from the Mets pitchers and I probably never will. I would have liked to see anger from the Mets over the Marlins actions and words because anger when channel correctly can increase concentration.
God, reading these quotes makes me wish the Mets would have stormed out of the dugout once the Marlins started celebrating as though they won the World Series. Besides a postseason berth, the second coolest way Shea could have gone out was with an ‘86-style brawl.
<__>
Dude, I was thinking the exactly same thing. lol.
now that would’ve gotten the crowd back into it.
If there was a brawl they probably would have swung and missed like they did for 27 innings of the most important games of the season.
Regardless of these quotes the Marlins took 2 of 3 from us and without santana maybe would have taken all 3. They also finished only 5 games behind us on a shoestring budget.
The 2008 Marlins overachieved while the 2008 Mets underachieved.
After where we were after the willie situation and with all our injuries and horrible pen I’d hardly say we underachieved.
So if you have a payroll in the stratosphere and sign the best pitcher in the game and then dont make the playoffs you have achieved your goals?
Of course not but underachieving would have been to finish where we were under Willie. We did not underachieve.
Well, when their season was on the line in August they totally tanked. But because they were not in first place it is not a “collapse.”
blains, 18-11 in august isn’t good enough for you?
Between the 16 year old girls and needles in his rear end, I’m sure he sleeps very well.
Well, the Marlins players care more than their 10 fans do. I’ll be there booing the hell out of them next season.
HAHAHAHA – it’s like being back in high school all over again.
Just goes to show that the more things are SUPPOSE to change, the more they remain the same.
If I was a ML ballplayer, I’d never be shooting off my mouth b/c it always comes back to haunt you and usually winds up making you look stupid. But all these guys who do just that sure make for interesting reading by us fans….
As I’ve said before, I don’t expect competitors to say anything less.
But LoDuca, having spent the previous 2 years in NY and having cultivated friendships here, sounds awfully petty and little with his comments these days.
WHO CARES WHAT THE MARLINS SAID. THEY CAME IN TALKED SMACK AND THEY BACKED IT UP AND WON. THEY BEAT US. WE SHOULD WORRY ABOUT THE METS AND HOW THEY ARE GOING TO FIX THIS TEAM RATHER THEN CARING WHAT OLSON, HANLEY, AND STERIOD HEAD LODUCA SAID. LO DUCA WONT EVEN HAVE A JOB NEXT YEAR WHO CARES WHAT HE HAS TO SAY.
HANLEY BACKED IT UP FIRDAY NIGHT OLSON BACKED IT UP SUNDAY.
you hit the nail on the head
You know there is a caps lock on computers, right?
Anyone that was cut by the Nationals this year should shut up. The Marlins were acting like they won the world series yesterday. The whole team was on the field celebrating for five minutes. They’ve been running their jibs on the Mets all year. Unfortunately, the Mets had no guts to do anything about it.
No bullcrap.
Even if the team couldn’t get up, for you know, having the season on the line and all, maybe could have at least got up for a game against any divisional rival that was talking about “how much fun it’s going to be to end their season.” Obviously the teams bats couldn’t get up for either.
Everyone is always talking or writing about who doesn’t like the Mets and for what reasons. Whether it’s the marlins or braves or whomever. Well, who cares. The Mets don’t do anything more than any other team does.
I hope the team has the attitude next year of , “We’re going to do our dances and our handshakes and our curtain calls and if you don’t like it too freakin’ bad!”
I am tired of hearing garbage like, “Ooooh the braves don’t like the Mets.”
What is this, high school?
EXACTLY!!!!
I think it is more media hype then anything … they play it off like the braves and marlins hate the mets and not the phillies so they play harder against the mets …. the bottom line is these are major league players and if it takes them to hate another team to play better I don’t no.
But again I don’t get what the Marlins did after the game or befroe the game …. they talked and talk and walked the walk … the Mets could have shut them up and made them look silly but they did not do it.
It also comes off that way because the Phillies are a better team then the Braves Marlins and Nats AND THEY SHOW THAT BY BEATING THEM UNLIKE THE DAM METS WHO PLAY DOWN TO THERE COMPETION AND MAKE IT SEEM LIKE THESE TEAMS ARE PLAYING THEM HARDER WHEN THERE NOT.
i actually still like loduca better than our upper man age ment
(seriously, can we please take that word out of the filter)
This team said ‘never agai’ after last season and guess what? It happened again…
Actions speak louder than words and this team has not shown it capable of recovering via their actions…
which is Why one of the 3 HAS to go…beltran
yea lets trade THE ONLY GUY who hit in a big spot this last week. GREAT IDEA!
Why pin this on Beltran? He goes out there and gives you consistent performance, doesn’t make any of those stupid soundbites after the game like Wright (’this is a penant race, it’s what baseball’s all about. It’s fun.’ Shut up David.), and even called himself out saying that he wants to be up in the big situations to attone for ‘06. Not to mention that he and Santana were the only players to show up this weekend in the clutch when it really mattered for the sake of the whole season.
THIS
?
Wright
The Mets could use a few players like Hanley. Guys with fire, with personality. The guy is a warrior who doesn’t shrink in the spotlight. Name one position player on the Mets who steps up, who is fierce like Hanley when the games mean something. Or that has any personality/charisma.
Doesn’t shrink in the spotlight? He sat out yesterday to protect his .300 average. What a warrior.
dont use hanley ramirez as some great example of a true gamer. the guy is a punk. the mets need someone like chase utley or to go out of division, eric byrnes. Look at the dbacks before byrnes got hurt and after. BIG DIFFERENCE. eric byrnes is the exact type of player this team needs too bad he is on a fresh extension and not going anywhere.
“Name one position player on the Mets who steps up, who is fierce like Hanley when the games mean something. Or that has any personality/charisma.” – I would say that sounds like Jose Reyes but everyone got on him last year for having a personality, and that’s why teams hate us and play hard against, etc etc. Give it a rest. If we saw Jose or DW or any of our guys on another team, we’d hate them for being competitors.
Get Elijah Dukes! lol
perhaps if the Marlins aimed a wee bit higher they might make the playoffs.
Well, what LoDuca said must be true, it was written on Dodger Stadium letterhead.
“who i hope to go 0–162 next season”
Unfortunately, the Marlins will only be better next year. Which means the Mets will have to improve if they want to be close enough to fail on the final weekend next year.
I can’t wait to play spoilers against the Marlins next year.
No. Two words: Fire. Sale.
Yeah, but the marlins will have expectations next year. How did they handle that this year in August and September?
I would not be surprised at all if Hanley said that.. The guy is a complete a$$. After the game saturday my buddies and i hung around the diamond club (think that was the location) and saw all the marlins players leave shea. Granted it was funny to see the rookies all in costume, the vast majority of them were nice. One of them dressed up in a bunny costume (including furry hand mits) attempted to sign a ball for this 10 year old kid we made friends with. Mike jacobs was actually very nice to us and we got a good laugh out of rhodes, as we asked if he could groove one to delgado come sunday, to which he laughed and said he cant but we’ll see… Now hanley came out with his video cam and as my buddies and i were yelling to him as he was about a foot away he just blew us off.. fine…. but the the lil 10 year old kid was calling for him to sign his ball and the guy wouldnt even turn and pay the kid any attention… do these players not remember that they were once young kids as well…? sorry for the vent, but that just rubbed me the wrong way.
We could learn a thing or two from the marlins…… What’s their payroll again???
Until the Mets prove they can win in the clutch, they’re going to be the butt of jokes.
My wife (another angry Mets fan) turned to me yesterday and said “I hope the Mets bullpen are voting Republican – because I’d hate for them to be pitching for Obama.”
WE HAVE NEW RIVALS GUYS AND IT SEEMS EVERYBODY IN OUR DIVISION. HATES US…CAN WE GUESS WHY?
1)NEW YORK ( BEST PLACE IN THE WORLD)
2) BIG MARKET TEAM (COULD BE)
ANYTHING MORE REASONS?
Any* Oops haha
I agree, New York teams always have a target on our backs when playing against smaller market teams. Playing us is their big stage and we must always be on our A game.
We need to treat EVERY game in our division as a playoff game next year. Go all out, run up the score and take no prisoners when we play our division foes. If we take care of beating the snot out of the Nats, Phils, Braves and Marlins everything else will fall into place.
We need to have a 2006-like year and run away with standings next year.
Like I said in a previous post…Guys like Hanley Ramirez are jealous of the Mets. It’s not the fact that Reyes celebrates after homeruns, but the fact they are jealous of the fans we have in our stadium comapred to having to come home and see not even half the stadium filled with Marlin fans. They are frustrated at seeing us on top the division most of the year and because they can’t win games themselves they got nothing better to do than hate on us. It’s jealousy and I can’t believe I’m saying this but I honestly hate the Marlins more than the Phillies right now.At least the Phillies win to back it up, what have the Marlins done in the last 5 years? At least teams like the Braves don’t talk about how much they hate the Mets all the time.I sware the Marlins are obsessed with hating us.
I agree with the duke,,, I hate this organization. They stink….
I am with everyone who says they hate the Marlins more than the Phillies. However, the METS need to hate the Marlins, and when they’re out having a tea party in CF during warmups then I have to question how hard they’re actually going to play against each other. I hate to regurgitate Keith here but how much of a killer instinct are you actually going to have if you’re all chatty before the game? I’m not talking about being friendly with players who were once a big part of the Mets, like, say, Cliff Floyd.
People who do not understand Carlos Beltran need to go read anything Joe Posnanski has written about him. And then STFU.
ALL THE METS HAD TO DO WAS BEAT THE MARLINS IN A SHORT SERIES. NOT EVEN SWEEP THEM JUST TAKE 2 OUT OF 3 AND THEY COULDN’T DO IT. PATHETIC!!!!!!!
Beltran, Wright, Reyes all need to stay. That’s first of all. Second, if the above is true, Piazza should have gone “Guillermo Mota” on Hanley “I’ve won nothing” Ramirez. Third, the first Met to pitch to Ramirez in ‘09 had BETTER knock him on his backside. And I don’t mean “brush him back”. HIT HIM.
And we will all sleep well knowing that idiot is no longer on the team….and thank God for that!
