He better, otherwise Manuel’s going to look even worse (not that Manuel should be here) for not using him and wasting this past month.

    • Jaded1983 says:

I think the decision not to use him came from those final two bullpen sessions where he could only throw around 81 – 82mph. I think (again key word is think) that manuel did intend to use him if he had his velocity. once it was apparent he did not have it, the decision to shut him down was made.

    • mrose says:

Ceetar, I know you aren’t implying this, but I think anyone critical of Manuel for not using Maine at the end of the year was looking specifically at short term adn not long term. I know they kept saying he couldn’t injure it more, and John told me that himself, but come on, whos to say he doesn’t change his delivery, or what not, and blow out his elbow? We need him in our future….so I hope weather he comes back the same or not, people don’t blame anything on Manuel

      • Ceetar says:

I dunno, if his doctors cleared him, they cleared him. It’s not up to the manager to play doctor. Sure, he probably needed to be monitored so he didn’t hurt himself, but both Manuel and Warthon would’ve been looking for that.

The whole thing confused me..he was basically in the same condition before and after teh dL stint, so why’d he go on at all? He definitely had a dominant inning here and there prior to, and had they decided to go right to the bullpen, allow him one inning here and there..who knows.

  2. zen says:

    heyman: mets talking manny.

omar…sign him. you know what i’m saying? omar.

    • dave27 says:

I don’t see how anyone thinks an aging, aloof, basket-case is what this team needs.

People who know think they need a Pete Rose-Keith Herenandez-Kirk Gibson type leader, and people come up with Manny.

      Priceless.

      • zen says:

this team needs a guy who doesn’t care what anyone thinks. manny is great. he carried the red sox in the playoffs for year then the dodgers too.

        2 years @ $50 million + k-rod = world series ring.

    • DerangedHermit says:

Uh, no. We’re not a touring circus. Well, except Heilman and Schoeneweis. Apparently, they’re those things you hit with a hammer and watch them go up in the air.

      Sign Pat the Bat.

    • BLUEXORANGE says:

      when did heyman say this?

      • zen says:

        today on the radio.

apparently church didn’t like it here either which is weird since he was loved before he got hurt.

        • Jaded1983 says:

does heyman have a quote from church saying that?

        • mrose says:

Ugh i’m willing to bet this quote was taken out of context
something like church saying he didn’t like being booed and it bothered him that he wasn’t playing better…
          i hate the media

        • Hit The Weights Zeile says:

i love how mike agrees with him by saying “i heard that too” great source mike. gotta love when the yankee media just makes stuff up to ruin the mets.

        • Jaded1983 says:

yea i find that hard to believe. the dude plays real hard and its obvious it annoys him to high heaven when he strikes out or pops out in a tough situation. ny fans seemed to like him a lot…

  3. Philnym31 says:

Maybe we take a shot at signing Rocco Baldelli? He is a high risk, high reward player, but I couldn’t possibly imagine his price being that expensive.

    • dave27 says:

How about someone without the “high risk” part? We seem to lose out every single time.

Baldelli is a nice player who has proven completely incapable of staying on the field.

      • Mets17 says:

Oliver Perez, John Maine and id say that Milledge for Church and Schnieder was high risk, they all seemed to work out for the most part

        • dykstraw says:

maine worked out, ollie was a wash, and you think the milledge trade worked out? when now there are whispers of trading both church and schneider? and milledge is still what, 22?

  4. imtiredofguiseppefranco says:

sign krod and manny and darron oliver

  5. dykstraw says:

people are talking about manny and varitek.

    LOL.

it’s mo vaughn all over again.

  6. BLUEXORANGE says:

if we sign manny. then starting pitching isn’t a concern to omar. we don’t even know how maine or even pelfrey will turn out. yes i said pelfrey. you never know. t would be nice to go after a proven starter. but if we do end up getting manny i think we should go after lowe or sign perez again. this off season is going to be crazy, but one thing im going to say is WERE NOT GETTING CC!!. so before all those comments pull through id like to get it out.

    • Jaded1983 says:

especially since he has pitched 253 innings and will be making his 4th straight start on 3 days rest on thursday. just has “another injury besets the mets” if we sign him written all over it!

  7. HitTheSinkerBall says:

K-Rod is the man get him. He is a proven winner. Gets it done in the clutch 208 saves already …. oh and he is only 26 years old. Bring in K-Rod Omar!!!

  8. BLUEXORANGE says:

man i can see it now jimmy rollins “man…k rod…every time he celebrates he acts like he won the world series. man we gotta teach this guy a lesson WERE THE TEAM TO BEAT” man if we get k rod its ganna be a hilarious season

    • HitTheSinkerBall says:

lol it really will but K-Rod wont care … he will throw one at jimmys head lol

      • BLUEXORANGE says:

haha hell yea. i mean lets just get k rod and even if we lose for the third straight year. at least the season would be entertaining……no way hahah. if i were omar i would sign k rod and become better by subtracting. release like everyone in that bullpen and sign a whole new set and see how it goes lol anything is better than this bullpen. id take a chance on manny and pick up Delgado’s option just imagine that lineup. you can always imagine it and it looks good on paper and all but yea it wasn’t the case this year…maybe manny can actually give us some clutch hits

  9. I think we are going to get CC!

  10. Joe Bacci says:

Get Well Soon John! We need you!

  11. Flushing_is_Burning says:

I think world series will be the Cubs vs Angels, meaning after that 50+ saves during the regular season, KRod still has a month worth of pressurized pitching ahead of him. I’m just a little concerned about the condition of his arm after the 08 season.

    • i’m sure the insurance policy on a 26 yr old’s pitching shoulder is a little less expensive than a few other options out there. this guy can flat out pitch. if you worry about injuries, you’ll never have a pitching staff.

cc would concern me, but i wonder how much stress he actually puts on his arm. he is so large, that if his mechanics are good, it should be minimal. i would be more concerned about his knees.

  12. 4eyeJoe says:

c’mon, varitek and manny……. i thought the lesson learned this year is not to go with old players. get a bunch of young players on this team that is not afraid to knock the day lights out of Han Ram, Victorino, Frenchy, and Dukes.

what is the deal with Church hating New York? this is the first time i heard about this and Fat-man says he heard it from a trusted source.

    • varitek wasn’t great this year. he will be looking for a contract similar in years to posada. how is that one looking for the yanks right now?

i agree about manny though. the guy is a beast. he would be perfect.

  13. Is Tek really going to be looking for 4/52 this off season? Oh boy.. The way he’s hit sometimes this year I think I deserve just 15% of that by just watching it.

Get well soon Johnny!!! I think when he went down, that was pretty big (not as big as losing Tatis or Wagner. I think losing Fernando was a huge part of our ‘collapse’ this year.)

Personally, I want K-Rod. Like HitTheSinkerBall said, he won’t be afraid to plunk Rollins in the head. He pissed off a lot of guys in the AL West with his celebrating (read that in ESPN the Magazine) so it would be great to have him on our team.

  14. TobeRinkler says:

Lesion? News was that it was a bone spur. Is this a more serious condition than that was? Does it impact more or less on his projected abilities after recovering?

We need to know these things!

  15. danlx13 says:

if he turns out to be what people expected this yr from him then we would have 3 aces in johan pelf and maine

  16. zen says:

maine had successful surgery. will bring throwing in december.

    –daily news

  17. rustyjr says:

get well johnny boy – we need you ( damn do we need you) 1!

  18. The Slider says:

And the difference between a “lesion” and a “bone spur” is . . . ?
