Yesterday, on WFAN, Mike Francesa said he has been told that Ryan Church ‘hated it here,’ while adding, ‘I know for a fact that he didn’t like the team, he didn’t like the city and he was not a happy guy here.’
However, just five weeks ago, Adam Rubin wrote the following on his blog for Daily News:
“Church revealed that his wife Tina was driven to tears by the standing ovation the Shea faithful gave before his first at-bat (after returning from the disabled list). The hard-nosed Church said the fans’ embrace cemented his desire to spend the rest of his career in Flushing. He’s even open to signing a long-term contract now to wipe away his arbitration years.”
…thanks to Franco S for the link…
Francesa returns to the airwaves today at 1 pm. To listen live, click here. If you’d like to call in to his show and let him know of Church’s comments, call 718-937-6666.
Lastly, speaking of Rubin, he will be running a live chat with readers on his blog today starting at noon.
…Update…1:22 pm…
During today’s chat, Rubin was asked about Francesa’s comments, which he responded by writing, “Ryan Church really enjoyed playing in New York. How do I know? We talked several times during the year about it. Not with a notepad and tape recorder out. Just casual one-on-one conversations, when he talked about how much more he liked New York than Washington.”
…great work, adam…thanks…

lotta things have changed since then…trade him
Apparently someone called Mike at The Fan and said he read that Church loves NY. Now Fat Mike is claiming Church told him HIMSELF that he hated it here. Mike asked the caller where he got his info and the caller said “MetsBlog.com,” whereupon Mike promptly sneered, “An Internet Blog! Who are you going to believe, them or me?”
I sure wish Church would call in the show himself, that would be awesome. Or issue some sort of statement.
‘“An Internet Blog! Who are you going to believe, them or me?”
Well, that’s a no brainer. An no, it ain’t you Mike….
Citing metsblog was a mistake. The caller should have credited the original source, Adam Rubin, which would have cornered Francessa. Telling him you read it on a blog allows him to ridicule you without having to bother verifying the claim. Fight fire with fire guys- fight smart.
hahaha fat boy…you are an idiot (Talking about Francessa obviously)
Lets get Lo Duca back lol
I can’t stand Francessa. Ever notice how he always refers to the Met players by their last names and the Yankees by their first names? Its Derek and Jobba, etc. How many times did he rip David Wright and praise Kevin Youklis? He should stick with the Yankees and shut his big fat mouth. He’s a pompous idiot !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
You guys have been way to hard on Church. We all loved him at the beginning of the year and then he went through hell all year. He played hurt with a hip injury lately. I think he can be a terrific RF and should be a building piece
yeah but hes a career .275 hitter….hes not that valuable
You could use a lot better statistics than something as stupid as a career .275 average to gauge his value. Beltran has around the same career average.
Beltran has 3 gold gloves and next year will have 300 homeruns and 300 sb for his career… Church has 47homeruns and they are same age…. Please do not insult Beltran like that… Church isn’t that good or good period….
How exactly was I insulting Beltran?
Or for that matter inferring that Church was as good as Beltran? Its just merely an example of how BA isn’t everything.
Reading comprehension, man.
First of all, Church not only has heart, but he also carried this team in the beginning of the season. He is tough and a competitor. He deserves to be back to prove he can contribute in the long run.
Secondly, if any of you geniuses have actually played sports and experienced a severe concussion (not to mention two within a couple of months), that alone could do you in for a season.
That being said, for all of you wanna be Met GMs’ out there, spare us all of your amature scouting knowledge. I am sure if all of your well thought out analyses actually mattered you would not be posting on metsblog.
yes but one thing we have been saying is we dont need all stars we need guys who can bust their butts every day and give us good enough production to compliment the big guys. if healthy for the whole season church would have been one of those guys.
sorry to double post but to follow what i said look at the cubs who won 97 games with guys like reed johnson, jim edmonds past his prime, mike fontenot, & fukudome. I really think mgmt and our fan base have to realize this is not fantasy baseball and the games are not played on paper.
i thought statistics didnt matter? or is that only when its there to prove your point?
Church’s a keeper. His big downside was that he supposedly couldn’t hit lefties, which he disproved the first 2 months this year. He hits for power, runs well, has baseball smarts, and is alomst Gold Glove caliber.
There are many areas of this team that need an upgrade before you start shopping for a RFer.
I love his defense. He gets a mulligan because of the concussion.
He gets a mulligan because he showed what he can do when healthy, which is produce at a very high level, hustle, and sacrifice his body for a catch
How the heck does the fat man continually get away with spouting fiction disguised as fact on the air?
This isn’t the first time. He just makes up this stuff. And that tripe about “trading the core” was fabricated merely to get under Mets fans’ skins and to try to bash the Mets organization.
Fatcessa is such a lying phony.
I was listening Monday when he was making those claims and it was scary…he was yelling at callers, yelling!…he got in a roar big time at the fact that callers didnt agree with him.
Not only that, his sheer laziness is galling. It’s one thing to come to work at 1pm and start the show with “I think they should trade David Wright, and here are 5 trade proposals. Let’s discuss”. But heaven forbid he ever actually do any homework on anything.
Because he is a sports talk radio host. Those guys are paid to be loud blathering idiots for a few hours daily.
I couldn’t agree more. He was purposely baiting Mets fans. He always thinks he’s right, never lets anyone finish a thought. No wonder the other idiot Russo left. Fat pig!!
the power of christ compels you!
thank you matt
Don’t call him. It just proves that people listen. Wanna shut up the fat man… STOP LISTENING. It’s just that simple.
we need to call…because the only people that do normally dont know what they are saying and give francessa satisfaction that hes right.
the show will put on who they want. shows like that use callers to say things they don’t want to get in trouble for saying so they find the 2 people who hate wright to say he should be traded.
smugcesa is a punk
But he doesn’t care. You have to hit him where it hurts — the ratings. It’s the only way to get a radio or TV station to change it’s ways or personnel. Unless someone can get him to call a group “nappy headed-hos.”
EXACTLY. Do you really think the people making decisions about the franchise care that Francesa is lying? Minaya, Wilpon, Church, and Church’s agent - that’s it. Sports radio is a vehicle for the fans. If you don’t like the show (and I don’t), just don’t listen.
Francesa has lost all credibility when speaking about the Mets. From his insistence on trading Reyes, to his inability to let it go that the Shea attendance is announced larger than what he thinks it is, to this situation with Church.
No way Francessa recants or even addresses his erroneous information. You see the self absorbed, self annointed sports pope is infallible on anything sports related. How dare you question the all knowing pompous one. Do you not know with whom you deal? The conversation with anyone who brings this up will be that some anonymous no name mole within the Mets organization told him that Church was not happy. Facts are useless with this guy and the anonymous source is his alleged cover.
If you are a Met fan, you can’t listen to Francesa at all. He is playing the heel. I don’t think he actually believes what he is saying he is just trying to get you agitated to get ratings. I am not sure what the Mets will do with Ryan, but to say he hated it here sounds pretty false to me after hearing his wife’s story.
I haven’t listened since Russo split. Apparently he is as unbearable as I imagined.
i don’t really see what mets fans or the FO did to tick church off. we didn’t even get on him for his poor performance down the stretch. and he was as adamant about playing through that concussion as anyone. i could see if he’s just not happy in nyc, but that’s a personal choice.
Ever since Mike and the Mad Dog came on the air, New York sports has become an arena where the failures are more important than success and re-creating the truth (David Wright never gets a clutch hit…tell that to K-Rod) is more important than analysis of the facts.
Love his claim that Rollins and Utley are tougher and better than Reyes and Wright because the Phils have won the NL East the last two seasons. Hey Mike!! Here’s one thing Reyes and Wright have done that those two haven’t, won a postseason series. Hell, those two haven’t won a postseason game as of yet.
How come he doesn’t mention that utley and rollins both hit .182 in the NLDS last year?
And that Kaz Matsui outplayed both of them. By his logic, the Mets should’ve kept Matsui and gotten rid of Reyes.
wow..i just heard johan was operated on…he had a torn meniscus in his knee during Saturdays gem. wow talk about a legend in the making…i hope hes okay. they say he will be ready by spring training
source is john heyman by the way. they just said it on wfan
man i hope he will be okay….how bad is a torn meniscus? does anyone know if its serious
Depends on how big the meniscus tear was. I had surgery on mine in mid-August, just finished my 6 weeks of PT, started jogging on the treadmill last week and about to start playing volleyball next week. I, of course, am not a professional, but in terms of seriousness I’d go on the lower end of the scale as in not so serious. It hurts like a mother that’s for sure, but you can still work out/etc.
yeah i have one now actually. I hurt it in summer of 07 but was out of work with no insurance, so i just let it heal on its own…i literally coulnt move it from a half bent position for about 10 days. I thought i tore my acl or something, because it hurt like hell and it was literally LOCKED…like if i was laying downa nd someone pushed down on my knee, that the entire knee would literally explode.
HOWEVER, that being said, it healed to the point where i can still run, play some sports lightly (like half court bball or touch football)…but if i squat down or bend my knee too far in, it clicks again and locks up for a day or so. But it doesnt hurt anymore
Point being–i can live with it. Im not running no sports leagues or have kids to teach sports to. So im not going for surgery. Maybe eventually…
but Johan should DEFF be fine within 2 months at most, with some fairly heavy rehab.
Look forward to my part II of my injury life story tomorrow
Fatcessa probably won’t even take phone calls today.
Church was just probably frustrated with his performance and the team’s struggles.
Church was probably frustrated with Frank Robinson and the Nats for 4 years years and that’s why he only hit 35 homeruns in 4 seasons with the Washington Nationals…..
So, let me see if I have this straight: You’re not a big fan of Ryan Church? Is that about it?
I’ve never seen anyone so singlemindedly obsessed with a single player. Did Church run over your dog or something?
does anyone even care that johan had surgery today?
sorry for the double comment
If he was pitching tomorrow, then probably. If this keeps him out of the WBC, I’m happy :-)
darling doing the playoffs:
SNY’s own Ron Darling has Dodgers-Cubs.
Darling will join Caray and Martinez for the ALCS.
Nice.
Glad I don’t have to hear him do the Phillies series.
Downside; Chip Caray.
does anyone even care that johan got surgery today? even if tis not serious i mean its still surgery.t his guy is tougher then it hough johan is the best
BLUEXORANGE, relax, i’m sure we all read it…but no offense, I know you said you heard it from Heyman, I think most of us wait for an actual post on something to comment on it….
Well if you’re waiting to get your news from this site we may be here for a while.
From SI.com
By Jon Heyman, SI.com
Mets ace Johan Santana had left knee surgery on Wednesday to repair a torn meniscus, SI.com has learned. He is expected to make a full recovery and be ready in time for spring training.
Adding to his legacy as one of the game’s elite starters, Santana was pitching with a hurt left knee on Saturday when he shutout the Marlins on three days’ rest to keep the Mets’ postseason hopes alive. The two-time AL Cy Young award winner finished his first season in the National League by going 16-7 with an NL-best 2.53 ERA and 206 strikeouts in a career-high 234 1/3 innings pitched for the Mets, who had acquired him in an offseason trade with the Minnesota Twins.

Doesn’t seem that serious.
idk about Church..he was good for like 25 games…and bad for like 50
Your posts are impossibly annoying. We get it. You don’t like Church.
And with such compelling evidence as “he was good for like 25 games… and bad for like 50″ it’s a wonder that the Mets haven’t hired you on the spot. I can just see the owners sitting in their offices saying to themselves “before we hire omar, maybe we should like give this like airfeet guy a call. I mean he clearly is a baseball genius, with his like thorough analysis of the game.”
Hahahaha. Christ, we gotta do this again with this guy??
Come on Airfeet that’s just not true. Did you even look at his spilts?
Look at these
March/April .855 OPS in 25 games
May .976 OPS in 21 games
June .746 OPS in 6 games
July .844 OPS in 5 games
August and September were terrible and that’s 33 games.
Thus he was very good for 51 games. League average for 6 games and terrible for 33.
Here is Adam Rubin’s response re: Church.
Ryan Church really enjoyed playing in New York. How do I know? We talked several times during the year about it. Not with a notepad and tape recorder out. Just casual one-on-one conversations, when he talked about how much more he liked New York than Washington. Did he love all his teammates? No. Does anyone? I probably should have written it at the time, but it was the day Johan Santana pitched a complete game and would have seemed meanspirited.
The report time for players for Saturday’s game was 11:15 a.m. Duaner Sanchez strolled in at 11:45 a.m. Ricardo Rincon strolled in at 12:05 p.m. I don’t know if they had something family-related that caused them to be late, and Jerry Manuel almost made it sound like players might have had permission to be late, but that’s the kind of stuff that irked Church. Church is a gamer, the kind of player the Mets need. He had a right hip injury the final week of the season. Doctors told him to take a week off. He instead played, and struggled, through it while taking daily injections.
Rubin also reports on the santana surgery on his blog. What a gamer, my god.
thank you, mr. church. for playing injured. i hope he’ll be back next year.
francesa…you’re scum
Well, that seals it for me. Francessa was just fabricating once again and was wrong.
If there’s anyone I trust and respect when it comes to both fact and opinion about the Mets it’s Adam Rubin. Personally, I agree with almost all his opinions on the Mets, and he’s almost always, if not always, correct with his facts. IOW, he’s careful and has integrity as well as good insight.
As for Johan, wow. What can you say? I think he deserves the Cy Young…
–Lowest ERA in all of baseball
–Most quality starts in all of baseball
–Most IPs in the NL
Pitching with a knee injury only makes his season seem that much more special.
I was on the fence about bringing back Sanchez. But the news that he was late arriving for a game this late and important in the season … combined with his lateness in spring training last year … makes me question his desire and motivation. It might be best to cut bait with him as well.
I remember a game back in August or so, Sanchez came in and blew a five run lead, or walked six guys in a row, or something else along those lines. I don’t remember the exact detail, but I remember it was something fairly egregious; that he had pitched quite badly and that it was obvious.
He was interviewed in the clubhouse after the game and basically said he thought he had pitched just fine and was happy with his performance. Geez, Duaner, way to step up.
It was the first time I’d ever seen Sanchez interviewed, but it left quite an impression. I was very bothered by his casual demeanor and his seeming abdication of all responsibility for his poor workc. I lost a lot of respect for him that day.
With his decidedly subpar pitching in the last quarter or so of the season and, now, this apparently developing pattern of being lazy and disinterested, I think I can say he’s more or less dead to me now. I’d be happy if they traded him, for almost anyone.
Seriously, you can’t listen to this guy anymore. As much as Mad Dog annoyed me as well, Francesa is just terrible on his own. Yes Mike, we all know that Reyes and Wright haven’t been clutch so far. THEY ARE 25 YEARS OLD! So that means they will never get a hit when it matters in their entire careers? So stupid.
And I can’t stand when he uses the Peter Vescey “sources tell me” line like he did with Church. If your sources are so reliable why wouldn’t you just reveal them?
As as usual, Mr. Contradiction himself said that Hanley Ramirez was taunting the Mets dugout that they weren’t going to the playoffs. He made it sound like the Mets weren’t being tough and just took it. However, his whole theme last year was that Reyes and Milledge fired up “a Marlin team that just wanted to go home,” and that’s why the Marlins played so hard against them. Yet, this year they are supposed to react to that idiot Ramirez — a punk who plays lackadaisical for 159 games but for some reason plays hard against the Mets once his team is eliminated? Ridiculous. You can’t have it both ways you fat f.
Well said, Big Shea!
Church had a good 30 games this season and all of a sudden he is a Good player… Give me a break.. the guy is 30 years old never hit more than 15 homeruns in his career or drive in more than 70 runs… Give me a break… let him go he isn’t that good…
and also was a big part of the reason this team didnt make the playoffs down the stretch…last 6 games crunch time couldnt even put a ball in play….and maybe we should sell decently high on Church considering the concussions may have ended his career…mite be a career .220 hitter now
Please see my response to your garbage analysis above
You do realize that last Thursday, he had 3 hits and tied the game up at 3 with a two out two run double down the line. Also, he scored the tying run in the game the Mets won eventually in the bottom of the ninth.
you missed the first half of the season. you’re wrong.
he is a great defensive player. he is a solid bat and plays hard.
he was hurt the second half. it’s not all about stats.
and how was he hurt the 2nd half?? If a guy cant handle a concussion now how can we know he will ever be able to overcome…the guys career mite be over…and no i didnt miss hte first half of the season when he played 25 games…he was good for 25 games….thats what like 1/6 of the season
READ. He was good for 50 games. Stop lying. He was good for more games this season than he was bad.
Do you even know what a concussion is?
Your medical knowledge is outstanding, really, it is.
“Only a concussion.” Really, it’s not worse than a strawberry, or a stubbed toe. Ugh. Where did this guy come from?
Look above he had a very good 50 games and ended the season with a very bad 30 games.
Why am I arguing with a guy that has some personal reason for disliking Church anyway.
CHURCH IS 30 YEARS OLD.
CHURCH IN 5 MAJOR LEAGUES SEASONS.
47HRS 202 RBIS 358HITS.
HOW THE HELL WITH THESE NUMBERS IS HE ANY KIND OF GOOD PLAYER??????????
WAIT THAT’S RIGHT HE NEVER GOT A CHANCE TO PLAY FULLTIME EXCEPT FOR LAST YEAR WHERE HE PUT UP 15 HOMERUNS AND 70RBIS.
UUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUH IF HE WAS SO GOOD WHY THE HELL DIDN’T FRANK ROBINSON PLAY HIM FULLTIME FIRST 3 YEARS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
GOD CALL IT AS YOU SEE IT.
HE HAS DONE NOTHING IN HIS CAREER AND IS NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOT AN EVERYDAY PLAYER.
In that season that you are yelling about he had 60 Extrabase hits. Answer to that. If Church had hit all season in our lineup and had 60 extra base hits do you honestly think he would not have had close to 100 RBI?
you’re on the lower end of the intellectual scale
Why do you keep using total stats? How about actually doing math and equating them to an entire season?
If you do you get
.275 20-25 80-100 RBI with gold glove defense at a cheap price.
plus the fact that he was a BENCH player in Washington. they never gave him a shot. so measuring his “career” is not really accurate.
Church busts his butt every game, plays hurt and is someone id love to be added to the “core” guys when they are mentioned.
If Church was so GOOD why the hell was he a bench player?????????? Ever think of that??? Bench player for the Washington Nationals!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Do you think Manny Ramirez,Albert Pujols, Vlad Guerrero would have been bench players his first 3 years in their careers????
You’re talking about the majority of time with a guy managing the club that FELL ASLEEP during a game. That tells you nothing except he surely didn’t give a rat’s a$$ about winning.
techwon you are an idiot. Apparently an illiterate one. I am going to post some of Ryan Church’s stats for you after this for your convenience. Why don’t you go ask one of the older boys on your short bus to read . them to you. Please, don’t forget to ask them to read them nice and slow so your poor wittle bwain can keep up.
2007: 470 ABs and 530 Plate Appearances, he played … a lot. Well THAT doesn’t sound like a bench player to me.
.464 Slg% in 2007, good enough for 34th in the entire NL. So power is not an issue.
We witnessed what an exceptional defender he is this season: great arm, good range, gets great jumps and reads fly balls really well, so defense is not an issue.
Is Ryan Church Manny, Pujols or Vlad?? not at all. Do you want a team of 25 all stars? That can be very expensive.
The reason Church didn’t play all that much in 2006? The Nats had some guy named Soriano in the OF. They had also traded for Austin Kearns that year, so the GM was obviously going to demand he played. The Nats gave up a lot for Jose Guillen the previous season AND paid him $4M for 2006, so he was obviously going to play over Church.
Instead of making a clown out of yourself and just shouting as loud as you can so people pay attention to you, why don’t you do some research so you could actually have a conversation like an intelligent person.
its not worth speaking to this guy or airfeet…they do not have a clue about what/who is good and what/who is not good….my suggestion ignore these two and they will go away
True, but I figured someone had to inject actual facts into the conversation to go along with the rants of two raving lunatics.
Actually he was a good player before those 30 games. That’s what 43 doubles playing with almost no support in a huge stadium, and being considered one of the best defensive RFs in the game will make you. A good player.
What these guys don’t see is that Church in 2007 had 60 extra base hits. That’s a lot of EXBH.
Great 60 extra base hits in 2007 makes him a perrenial all star caliber player… LOL…. Let’s just throw away the fact the guy stunk 3 years and couldn’t play for the Nats…….
Actually he did not stink in 2006 either. He hit well enough to earn a startin spot. He had an .892 OPS that season.
SELL HIGH…the guys career is over not because hes a bad player but because he wont be able to overcome that concussion…obviously he was affected by it when he came back…what makes anyone think next year he’ll be fine
Um, medical science. What makes you think he won’t?
So now you are a doctor and you know that he will not come back from a concussion? You are getting worse Airfeet. We have no idea if he will be or not but his value to us in RF is better than what we can get in return for that reason. He’s cheap, plays good defense and has potential to be a very decent player.
i mean theres a better chance he wont than he will considering we’ve had a sample of bad play after his injury and NO sample of good play….so right there puts my odds over yours
Are you serious? Of course you are. That is the dumbest thing I have ever read.
My God, did you even go to school?
Who knows whether Church really likes it in NY or not, but I could care less. All I know is that Church is one of the major reasons this team is not prepping for a playoff game right now. With the exception of 1 game, he was horrendous for the month of Sept. His presence, along with with Castillo’s in the lineup hurt the team.
LOL, but his presence in the lineup for the first 3 months is one of the few reasons that we were in position to even care about September. Not to mention some of the defensive plays he made in the final weeks.
i mean i don’t think theres anyway Church can be as good as he was those 50 games in the beggining of the season…his career numbers will tell you this…maybe he was just in a HOT streak…and he came back down to earth during hte end of the season
You mean the career numbers where he played in the biggest stadium in baseball with no one protecting him in the lineup and still almost led the world in extra-base hits and played a steller defense? Those career numbers?
BIGGEST STADIUM IN THE MAJORS WOULD ACTUALLY HELP HIS CAREER BA…..LOWER PRODUCTION HOWEVER…BUT HIGHER BATTING AVERAGE
can u stop commenting? thx
Delgado was awful for a year and a half. Do you think we should get rid of him too? Look at the season Brad Lidge and Cliff Lee just had. Cliff Lee was in the minors last year.
Fellas, guys get injured, they rarely play at 100%. Maybe Church shouldn’t have been playing this season at all but the Mets didn’t have the outfield depth or the luxury to sit him and let him rebound on his own time. Not Church’s fault.
The guy is capable of being an outstanding player for the Mets. Don’t give up because of a few bad ABs when he wasn’t even 100%.
DElgado is a former MVP one of the better hitters of his time…Church is in a completley different category hes a career .275 hitter w WAY LESS power
Delgado is not a former MVP you dense imbecile.
Comparing Delgado who will have over 500 homeruns to Ryan Church who has 47 career dingers is just ludicrious…
If we arent trading any of our core….we should definitely start to unload players that contributed to the collapse that aren’t within our core of homegrown talent…and yes that include RYAN CHURCH
Ok so Ryan contributed to the collapse but did not contribute to us being in position to collapse? That is ridiculous. You have plenty of room in LF and 2B to change the offense. You have plenty of room in 2 SP and a new BP to change the team.
Hey real instead of you calling me names can you rationally please tell me why church is what church has been all his career… First of all he never got full playing time until his 4th major league season with the Washington National… I repeat He never got full playing time until his 4th season with the Washington Nationals. He was a platoon player and under a great manager and baseball mind Frank Robinson. Full season last year with the Nats he hit 15 homeruns and 70rbis. Please do not give me the size of stadium for his excuse.. Nats ballpark is no bigger than Shea stadium… Can you please tell me why church has put up 47homeruns 202 rbis and 358 career hits in 5 seasons and the guy is 30 and you consider him a good player???? I can’t logically understand why… If you know something I don’t know please tell me……
I have many times you just don’t read.
He had 60 extra base hits in his first full season. That has nothing to do with the Nats stadium at all. IF he had played for a team that had runners on base and had 60 EXBH you don’ t think his RBI total would have increased?
Instead of using years for your totals, why don’t you use games or AB’s?
I could care less if you want to trade him, but your disdain for this guy is absurd.
the guy bashes new york and you wanna keep a true collapser around?
Please read the update from an actual reporter, Adam Rubin.
Anyone who listens to anything the fatone says about the Mets is insane. He hates the Mets bashes and undermines them at every term.
Mike who? Please. The man is hemorrhoid. He can’t even pronounce his own last name. I refuse to listen to the FAN when his shows air, and immediately switch stations when he voices a commercial spot. If there’s a God in heaven, his ratings will sag as much as his blubbery gut.
I’m glad that was cleared up, I like Chruch a lot.
Dude is solid, excellent fielder and has a cannon.
When he was going good he was our best player at the time.
Keep Churchie, I’m sure he’s not going anywhere.
Churchie was making Omar look like a genius when he was going good prior tot he concussions.
By the way if you want to get rid of Omar your nuts this guy stole 3/5ths of our rotation. Johan, Maine and Ollie.
People act like they are suppose to win the world series every year or make the playoffs.
I know we were built for that but Omars weakness is the pen. Putting a pen together is like rolling the dice. Outside of a top notch closer bullpen stats change from year to year.
He put together a top notch offense and starting rotation.
Remember folks consider the alternative.
How pissed would you be with Cashman that dude is shot.
I like Church, I think he has the attitude this team needs and it is definately possible that his concussions were the cause of his late season struggles.
However, one thing that does worry me is that his late season problems brought him down to around his career numbers. It maybe that his early season performance was simply a hot streak that was corrected by his lat season struggles.
Even so, his career averages won’t be terrible considering the defense and the price. If he hits .275 20 90 in the 7 hole which is what his averages would be over a full season there is nothing wrong with that.
Church never hit more than 15 homeruns and drive in more than 70 rbis… Where do you get those numbers??? Do you not get the FACT HE WAS NOT GOOD ENOUGH TO PLAY FOR THE WASHINGTON NATIONALS?????????????????????? THE GOD AWFUL GNATS DUMPED HIM FOR LASTINGS MILLEDGE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! THE MAN HAS 47 DINGERS IN 5 SEASONS AND HOW THE HELL DO YOU GET 20 AND 90?????????????? GIVE ME A BREAK!!!!!!!
Here you go yelling again. I can’t take any post like that serious.
I never said he had done that just that would be what his averages were if equated over an entire season. You can’t read.
Let me help you out.
Take last season in Washington. He had 470 AB’s. Bump that up to 640 which would be 160 games getting 4 AB’s.
Thus you need to multiply last year’s stats by 1.36.
Which would give you .272 20 95.
I know math must have been hard for you.
Look Church is not the problem. The top 5 problems are:
1) Bullpen
2) Bullpen
3) Bullpen
4) Bullpen
5) Bullpen
Once those are solved then you can begin looking at options at SP, LF, 2B and C and once those are solved you start looking at if you want to do something with Church.
You forgot to mention the bullpen. :)
Thank you. Church is not the problem. I’m not a real Church fan. I didn’t like the Milledge trade and I suspect that eventually Milledge is still going to be a better player than Church. But Church is pretty good and we can live with that. I would like to see him play less against lefties. I hope his concussion issues are in the past and not in the future. But he is not the problem. He slumped at the end which was unfortunate, but everybody slumps now and then. The bullpen’s failure however, was not a slump. It was a travesty and every resource should be spent on fixing that travesty, not worrying about RF.
if it wasnt for church’s memorable slide
we wouldnt have made it to game 162 in contention
THE GUY BASHES NEW YORK AND YOU GUYS WANNA KEEP HIM ON OUR TEAM…LISTEN TO YOURSELVES…IF HE DOESNT LIKE IT HERE HOW CAN U EXPECT HIM TO GET A CLUTCH BASE HIT..MAYBE THATS THE EXACT REASON WHY HE DIDN’T DOWN THE STRETCH
Are you actually FAT Mike? Why would you believe FAT Mike over Adam Rubin. Or an actuall Church quote?
This is Mike Francesca, isn’t it?
when did he bash ny?
Umm…he didn’t bash the Mets, Fatcessa with his impeccable reporting did.
i believe fatcessa….hed have no reason to just make up a complete fabrication
To get idiots to listen, duh.
Well, I think that comment tells us a lot about your posts.
Meant for airfeet, not you trs86.
Actually, the reason is called GRP (gross ratings points). It basically translates to the more controversy you can cause that will get people to tune into your station, the more advertisers will pay to put commercials on your time slot, and the more you will get paid.
How’s that for a reason?
guys im not gonna lie…this is Mike Francesca
Are you kidding Airfeet?
Francessa has every reason to make things up or highly exaggerate. One, he hates the Mets, despite what he says. Two, he’s so damn defensive about his own team which is more of a failure the last few years than the Mets considering their payroll. So he’ll do anything he can to try to diminish the Mets in order to try to make his own choking Yankees look better.
You = Idiot
if we are to some day find out what francesca said is true…would all of you change your minds regarding church?
If it turns out to be true it will be the first time.
Yes, I’m willing to reconsider. But I don’t want to hear a sound bite taken out of context like most of the garbage we hear. I want to hear what he actually said.
I bet it was like. “hey, mike I just heard that Ryan Church hates the Met’s road jers…”
“he hates the mets?!? hey everyone Church hates the mets.”
Hey Matt! Why don’t you use your status as the owner of Mets Blog and call him yourself! I’m pretty sure you can get past his screeners
everyones gotta stop praising church like hes the best player in MLB…i mean if Reyes Wright Church Beltran were all phenominal players…why couldnt our team slip into the playoffs?? and yeah obviously the bullpen blew it…but the offense could have easily stepped up and got us in
This is all the latino players on the METS that started up this rumor about Church not enjoying his time as a MET and being in NYC.
Watch it dnyciras, not a smart thing to say.
The hard-nosed Church said the fans’ embrace cemented his desire to spend the rest of his career in Flushing.
This was before he got booed. NOW he hates NY.
Ok guys we are getting little out of hand here… We are talking about Ryan Church here.. Again I repeat we are talking about Ryan Church!!!!!!!!
Ryan Church can’t hit left henders period… The Nats looked at him for 4 years and dumped him to the Mets!!!!!!!! I repeat Washington Nationals a triple A team dumped him to the Mets..
That being said Church has some value and could be traded for bullpen help…
Let Church go and have Tatis/Pagan/Chavez duke it out in RF and Get Manny in LF…
why does everyone want Church’s dong in their mouths…i dont understand everyones man crush on hte guy
Matt, if it bothers you so much what Mike said, CALL HIM YOURSELF!
I bet you won’t last 1 minute before he rips you apart. Haaa
Trying to decide who is dumber– techwonV27 or Airfeet. Its like having a choice between dying of brain cancer or AIDS.
Eh, they are the same person. You can TELL byTH E ranDOM caPITAL letters and LSCK of puncuation.
Like you real with all your screen names on this site.
You know I don’t do that and I actually take offense to that. I have been here since the begining of the site and have had one screen name. Anyone that has been here long enough may not agree with everything I say but know I am always the same.
I think they are the same person under an Alt.
That’s kind of a pathetic way to spend an afternoon.
The people who are taking Francessa’s word as gospel truth still havent read the update Matt posted. Either that or they are horrible at trolling.
Trade Church and Schneider for Milledge and Jon Rauch
Ok you really are an idiot. Rauch does not even play for the Nats.
U guys gotta quit it with your man crushes on Ryan Church
They also have man crushes on Reyes and Wright.
U gotta quit posting. Also, nobody’s saying they think Church is the greatest player. We just wish Mike Francesca wasn’t a lying Yankee fan fraud.
Question for anyone bashing Church … would you rather have someone like Nady in RF? And if so, why?
absolutely….Nady is WAY better than church are u serious?
Thank you, Airfeet. You just proved how clueless and subjective you are.
Seasonal Averages:
Church — 17 HR, 75 RBIs, .804 OPS, 112 OPS+
Nady — 21 HR, 78 RBIs, .793 OPS, 108 OPS+
Career RF ZR:
Church — .891
Nady — .871
Advantage … Church :!:
Church is a slightly better hitter and a better fielder.
I would love to have Nady play RF.. Anyone who thinks Church is a better player than Nady is just simply clueless.. Please do not say anything about Church’s defense because I don’t remember one game where Church’s defense was a game changer in 90 games…
moron
I really love the picture of Church slamming his bat to the ground…pretty much sums up his season
Airfeet, there has not been one poster on here who said that Church was an allstar. You and your alterego need to go have a chat with each other or yourself.
Church for the money is fine. You can’t have or afford an allstar in every postion. You have a hole in LF, 2B, 2 SP and an entire BP. The last of our concerns in a guy that should be at least league average in RF.
LISTEN ALL CHURCH LOVERS!!!!!!!!!!! I WILL ASK 3 QUESTIONS AND IF YOU CAN ANSWER THEM I WILL SHUT MY MOUTH ABOUT CHURCH…
1. 4 YEARS WITH THE NATS.. IF CHURCH WAS SO GREAT HOW COME HE NEVER GOT A STARTING JOB HIS FIRST 3 YEARS WITH THE NATS AND PLAYED PART TIME???
2. IF CHURCH IS SO GREAT WHY IS HE 30 YEARS OLD AND HAVE 47HRS 202 RBIS AND 358 CAREER HITS IN 5 SEASONS.
3. IF CHURCH IS SO GREAT WHY THE HELL DID THE TRIPLE A NATS TRADE HIM FOR MILLEDGE????
CREAM ALWAYS RISES TO THE TOP..
Already did but I guess I will again.
By the way not a Church lover, just a defender against the blind retards.
1) In 2004 Church was a late callup and was clearly not ready so there is one year.
In 2005 he was Jose Gullien’s back up. Before you critque Gullien he was their best player that season.
In 2006 he did very well and basically became the starting RF in August and September.
In 2007 he played fulltime for the first time in his career starting in May and put up his best numbers of his career including his 60 EXBH.
In 2008 he came out on fire and was hitting up until the 2nd concussion.
2) Same question as the first one and already answered.
3) Because he and Schnider were becoming expensive to the Nats and they were not in position to win. Millege is a high risk high reward player that a team with no expectations can take a chance on.
Next.
You’re a poop.
How does this dude churn out so many posts under like 5 alias in such a short time?
maybe cuz theres more than 1 person with a working brain
Nice try.
So, count the number of names who post here, subtract you, and that’s how many people on this site have working brains? Is that how that works?
Hey night who would rather have… Church or Nady playing rightfield??? Don’t bring up Church’s defense… He played 90games in RF this year and I don’t remember one game changing play………
You expect me to give you a serious answer?
lol
Not to mention the game changing plays that he made in the last 2 games on defense. Do these guys even watch the games. There were two very difficult plays the last 2 games that I don’t even see how Church made. Much less an idiot idea of Tatis or Evans out there.
i cant believe Aaron Heilman just asked people if they would rather have Nady or Church and expects some people to say Church…just absurd
Only Church’s wife and his kids can answer that question and say Church if they have any baseball brains…
Ryan Church has to be the greatest Right Fielder for a guy who has less than 50 homeruns by the age of 30 in the history of baseball.!!!!!!!!!!!!
Why are you OBSESSED with the home runs?
Becuase Right Field is a power hitting position…
Which can be measured by OPS much more effectively.
listen like i said before these two only want to talk about stats when it proves their point….remember same two people that dont think DW/reyes/beltran are any good and shouldnt be here
are not*
“Right field is a power hitting position”
Um, I hate to break this to you, techwon, but Right Field is a fielding position. Hence the word “field” in the title. Nobody bats in right field, except maybe during batting practice.
Yeah, yeah, I know what your’e saying. But what you’re saying is ludicrous. There are no rules that say players in certain positions have to hit home runs, and players in other positions don’t. That’s about the stupidest comment you’ve made so far.
Church, as has been demonstrated here repeatedly, hits many extra base hits. He just happens to hit more doubles and triples than home runs. And I have no problem with that. He gets on base and he scores. And he drives in runs. To discount all that and say he is worthless because he doesn’t hit enough home runs for a right fielder is stupid beyond words.
lately Fat-cessa has been really nasty towards the mets and the players. i could not listen to this guy for even a good 5 minutes ever since Monday.
At least Mad Dog sometimes balanced him out and keeps him in check. Now, Fatcessa can lie and be contradictory and hypocritical all he wants and there’s not one to stop him.
Fatcessa is out of control with the propaganda.
If Fernando Tatis was in Church’s position last week of the season and was playing instead of Church.. Met’s are in the postseason… The man had 0 I said 0 rbis last week of the season and hit 2 homeruns in 2 months…. Oh wait that’s right it’s the concussion… And when Ryan Church’s career ends with less than 500 rbi’s and maybe little over 100 homeruns for his career it was all because of the concussion…
The man knocked in 2 runs last Thursday. Do you even watch the games?
Shhh…tech doesn’t like his opinions contradicited with useless facts…
I’ll repeat what I posted above about Church and Nady for Airfeet who is under the false impression that Nady is better than Church:
Seasonal Averages:
Church — 17 HR, 75 RBIs, .804 OPS, 112 OPS+
Nady — 21 HR, 78 RBIs, .793 OPS, 108 OPS+
Career RF ZR:
Church — .891
Nady — .871
Advantage … Church :!:
Church is a slightly better hitter and a better fielder.
Uh oh. Using numbers and logic. That’s surely to be a problem.
Expect a reply to the effect of “BUT CHURCH DIDN’T START FOR THE NNNNNNAAAAAAAAATTTTTTTTTSSSS U IDIOT!!!!!!!!!”
*sure
ITS ALL ABOUT THE HOMERS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! HOMERS ARE THE SINGLE MOST IMPORTANT STAT IN JUDGING A RIGHT FIELDER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I LOVE EXCLAMATION POINTS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
And church is Ichiro in right field getting 220 hits every year… yeah!!!!!!!!!!!!! no he’s vlad guerrero banging 110 plus rbis every year… Oh wait Church isn’t that kind of player either……….uuuuuuuuuuuhmmmmmm….
Hey citizen… are you being sarcastic?
Do you know the Mets hit more HRs and scored more runs than the Angels this year?
Offense certainly wasn’t an issue with this year’s Mets, regardless of the last few games of the season.
I’ve never seen a scrub like Church who has done nothing in his career and with the Mets get the Golden boy treatment like he’s Tom Seaver…..
What don’t you and your other name Airfeet get? No one on here has even said Church is an all-star. You don’t have to have an allstar in every position. He’s a good value for his price and is not a current problem like LF, 2B, Bullpen and 2SP.
Ok real how about this bro… In a big spot needing a big hit who would you rather have up??? Tatis or Church??? Is it so bad to trade a guy who isn’t all that good for some bullpen help???
Actually, this is the funniest comment of all. Because — and you’d have to go back a ways here to find it — but around the time Church was due to come back, someone did an analysis and discovered an amazing similarity between Church’s stats and Tatis’ stats. I forget who it was who came up with this (and if you’re here, I apologize), but the numbers were so close that Matt actually posted a main article here about it. At that point in time, Fernando Tatis and Ryan Church had played in nearly the same number of games, had nearly the same number of at bats, and every major statistic was within five or ten points — batting average, HR/2B/3B, OBP, OPS, etc., etc.
So in answer to your question — either one. They performed virtually identically, up until the last month or so of the season.
Ok Church is a Great RightFielder and a perrenial all star… I give up… Give Church 600 at bats and he’ll do 280 30 homerun 100rbi… Never came close to that number and I doubt he will ever get a chance to do that cause the guy can’t hit Left Handers PERIOD….
its because church plays the style of baseball that new yorkers (myself inculuded) like to see.
he plays hard, tough, and all out, all the time. he plays injured, and is EXACTLY the gritty type of player that people on this blog want this team to have more of.
why cant you see what the guy has to offer and relax? is he the best RF’er out there? no. does he have the heart and the talent and the guts to be exactly the RF’er the mets need? Heck yes….
Where and from whom did you get the fact that he plays hard and is a gutsy player???? Dude Church was benched in Washington by FRANK ROBINSON for lack of hustle and lackadazical play 2 years ago…!!!!!!
Maybe he hated DC and Robinson. Would you argue that change of scenery never changes a player’s attitude and willingness to compete?
Tons of excuses for a guy who has done absolutley nothing for his career….
Did you watch the beginning of the season when he wasnt hurt? Did you see him go all out for plays?
Did you watch him play hurt through the end of the season? Did you watch him play after the concussion until forced to shut it down? Did you read any of the articles about how he was unhappy just sitting around and not playing during his rehab?
i bet your the kind of guy that rips beltran and wants him traded too….
Let me put this so you can understand it. NO one ON HEre HAs EVeR SAId ChURCh is A PERRinAL ALL_stAR IdioT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
OMG! REAL, you are in need of Anti-psychotic medication.
Who do you think you are??? Co-owner of metsblog.com?
At least Matt respects people’s opinions. You, on the other hand, need to understand that it is ok for people to disagree with you.
mrBill
It’s one thing to have an opinion.
It’s another thing to keep repeating the same thing over and over like a retarded parrot and not responding to anyone that posts a rebuttal that is backed up with actual facts. techwon is just babbling about the same thing and when anyone calls him out with some data that shows how wrong he is, he ignores it.
It’s childish
If someone wants to call him out for acting like a 3 year old, I don’t see a problem with that.
mrBill (oh noooooooo!) BHWE is right, trs86 has tried logic with these guys like 100 times.
They just keep posting THJ EXAKT SAME POST OVR ND OVR!
mrBill (oh noooooooo!)
Blains, you are the ONLY one that figured out my screen name. Haaa
Ha ha! Showing my age, but I had a mr Bill t-shirt in Jr. High. The kind you used to get from the mall where you picked out what color t-shirt you wanted and then what iron transfer you wanted and they did it right there for you.
Yeah, I know exactly what you mean with the iron transfer.
I can’t even begin to fathom all the different things you must get wrong in your day to day life.
Would be nice to see Church get another chance for at least three months next season.
Having seen him through Memorial Day, I felt sure he was going to have a career year; he made things happen repeatedly for a failing team.
This guy has ridiculous power. I saw him hit BP in four different parks incl. when he was out from the concussion. Upper deck shots after upper deck shots. Other Mets oohed and awed, too. Reasonable to think a healthy Church may have hit 30 bombs.
I certainly have no ability to prognosticate: will concussion effects destroy him or not?
Ridiculous power for a 30 year old with 47 career homeruns.. HAHA THAT’S pretty funny… By the ways I used to see Wade Boggs hit batting practice and you would’ve thought it was Mark Mcgwire on Andro….. Now we talking about Batting Practice to try to convince Church’s power… haha batting practice… that was really funny…
Tech, I thought since TRS86 answered all your idiotic questions above you promised the rest of us you would shut up…
What is your point with Church??? He should automatically come back as next year’s Rightfielder??? What has he proven??? Nothing!!! Eh if you have to bring him back make it earn it going against Tatis/Pagan/Endy… I won’t be back though Thank God….
Won’t be back? Good, go back to cheering for the Yankees and leave the rest of us in peace. No one thanks God more than those of us who will no longer have to read your stupid comments.
Ryan Church pitched out of the bullpen?
Batting Practice, Darling!
Francessa just brought the Mets announced attendance again - I want to punch him in his fat face.
Yeah, especially since the AL did this for years before the NL started. Until recently the NL did paid and in the balpark both.
A potential .280 20 80 guy who only cost you $2-3 million a year. You’ll take that. Frees up money to spend on more important needs.
Agbayani was potential 280 30 100 rbi and was the greatest ballplayer ALIVE in 1999 for 2 months… You know Agbayani played 5 years in the major leagues same number as Church and church only has 8 more homeruns than him…. That’s Awesome Power….
And if you take away the 10 homers Benny hit in his first 79 ABs in the majors, how many did he really hit? Didn’t take long to figure Benny out and he wasn’t much of an outfielder either.
Ryan Church had 10 homeruns in 2 months.. Other than that he has done nothing in his career…
You know that it is highly likely Benny was on roids?
Who cares if Benny was on roids… Piazza for that matter was probably on them too… Can’t crown Ryan Church for being a good player when he has 2 good months to start the season when he has the career stats that he has….
Dude did Chruch steal your girlfriend? Run over your puppy? What?
Church is so far down on the list of issues to address it’s not even worth talking about.
And furthermore, you’re not looking for him to bat in the middle of your lineup. You’re looking to him to bat 7th and offer some pop at the bottom of your order. Or would you rather have Endy Chavez play right everyday for the same money and offer no pop at all?
Why is that hard for the one guy on here to understand?
I much rather have Fernando Tatis play RightField than Church… Tatis has more power than Church, makes more contact with the baseball and is about 1000 times more Clutch than Church… Church is a better fielder that’s about it… Tatis pwnes Church…..
Tatis Career Slg% .445
Church Career Slg% .457
techwon …. pwned
LOL one tenth of sluggin pct…
Tatis has twice as much homeruns twice as much rbis and twice as much hits in his career than Church and he’s only 2 years older than Church…
Big owned by tech27
meh, fair points. And I am impressed you actually used some facts this time.
I think you are right about Tatis, but way off base on Church.
Personally, I think both should be in the OF next season. Rotating Murphy, Church and Tatis in the corner OF spots is the best thing for the Mets, decent amount of production and relatively inexpensive. It will also allow the Mets to spend money where it needs to be spent, the mound.
No, not fair points. Tatis also has twice as many ABs.
So you rather have a guy who is a few years older and was out of baseball for a couple of years. If Tatis is so great, why did no one basically want him for the last few years? No one is saying Church is an all star but he’sa fine complementary player who comes at a low price tag. $3 million a year for .280 20 80 is a good return on investment and good stats for a guy you want to bat 7th in an NL lineup.
Apparently, typing in all-caps and with tons of exclamation marks means you are right. I have to start doing this on all my papers.
Hey flushing you should just sthu and go make yourself some kimchi bok eum bab…
Right, because that’s what everybody in Flushing eats.
This is what is great about baseball… The arguments going back and forth between fans… If Church isn’t traded in the offseason like he should be for some bullpen help I would make him compete for his job in RF with Tatis Pagan and Endy… If he does well sure he should start but the guy has 5 year track record of laying an egg facing lefties which means he’s a platoon player…. You can get some good arms for Church because he’s relatively cheap and has some value and he could start everyday for a non contending team…
actually he has a four year track record of his crappy team not allowing him to hit against lefties, then a one year track record of looking like he had made huge progress before getting kneed in the head.
PAGAN!?!??! He is not going to be at spring training for the Mets.
He couldn’t hit lefties this year either… Please do not bring up him hitting lefties this year before the concussion cause if you do I will blame John Mcsame picking Sarah Palin for his vp spot on Ryan Church’s concussion…
And why wouldn’t a major injury like a concussion affect a player’s performance? To think it couldn’t is illogical.
Before his concussion, Church hit .318 vs. lefties. I’m not saying he’ll hit like that in the future, but it’s an indication of what he can do if played everyday.
let me ask you a question as you seem to like this stat thing…..would you take a guy who averages 3ohr, 110rbi, 310ba, 390 obp, 300 Risp, 307 late and close and just for the late season thrills we have had lately he bats 327 in sept/oct ….would this guy be good enough for you?
that is for tech
Has Church ever hit 300 30 homerun and 110 rbis in a season??? Do not give me overall projections if he played full season… Yeah I would be very happy if Church was able to hit that ,but the fact is he has Never done that and would probably not come close to ever doing that…
turn on YES!! Somebodys challenging francesca on church!!!!
Update?
Would be awesome if it were Adam Rubin.
Francesa was challenged a couple times, including someone bringing up Rubin’s comment. He shot it down though, saying his sours was impeccable.
I love how fatcessa has an impeccable source that he won’t name and Rubin actually spoke to Church.
But the fat-one is never wrong. Oh wait…
When he’s wrong, he just blames his sources. It’s never Mikey’s fault.
So impeccable it doesn’t even have a name!
Problem is Fatcessa will never name his source so we don’t know if he’s either 1) wildly exaggerating which he is prone to do or 2) simply making it up
I trust Rubin a million times more than Fatcessa.
Source: Church was really miserable in July when he had to sit out with his concussion. He couldn’t help the team and he didn’t
This
Hell hath no fury like a Fatcesa scorned.
I’d love to see him try and spell “impeccable”.
Bottom line. I don’t understand why people get so mad about FAT FRAN. He is given his opinion about what he thinks the Mets should do that is all.
He is no more an export then us Mets fans who watch them and follow them.
We know he is a Yankee fan that is why he is so much harder on the Mets. I mean it has been talked about already. If you say stupid things like the Mets should trade Wright and Reyes then the Yankees should trade A-rod because the first year they had him they went to the ALCS. Then two years in a row 3 games and done in the first round of the playoffs and now not even in the playoffs. So I guess the Yankees should unload A-Rod, Jeter, Posada, Rivera because these guys can’t get over the hump. FAT FRAN has some inside information and knows people to get information first but I mean he is no expert especially on the Mets.
This is the same guy who said the Mets did not have a chance for Santana. The same guy (FRAN and MAD DOG) who said mid season that Santana has no heart does not want the ball in the big game, was not worth it. Even had Yankee fans calling in saying there so glad they did not trade for him. A couple months later you hear how Santana is carrying this team, has been worth every dime CY candidate. Oh yeah I am sure every Yankee fan wishes they had him now.
Again he is no more of an export then any of us logical thinking Mets fan.
So stop getting so upset about what this wind bag has to say about a team WE as fans know much more about.
I don’t like him because he treats his callers like garbage.
He also has a mishaped head
Mike claims that his source were very reliable and he was surprise that Church was not happy. He claims that he was at the bench or at a game in September when he heard this.
Anyone wanna bet his source is techwonV27?
LOL. Or Airfeet!
I think Church stole their lunch money in grammar school.
LOL
LOL…
i didnt ask if that was church…i was being hypothetical….would someone with those numbers be able to play on this team?
that was a follow up to this:
let me ask you a question as you seem to like this stat thing…..would you take a guy who averages 3ohr, 110rbi, 310ba, 390 obp, 300 Risp, 307 late and close and just for the late season thrills we have had lately he bats 327 in sept/oct ….would this guy be good enough for you?
Fatcessa is a idiot and doesn’t know what he’s talking about, he hates the mets and wants the mets to get rid of all their good players. He wanted them to break up the core. What a moron. He’s a joke and his partner left him!
And when he had Tom McCarthy on earlier, he asked Tom about the differences between the two teams and of course Tom said it was the BULLPENS! But Francessa didn’t accept that, he had to keep on pressing the fact that the Phillies big guns took care of business while the Mets guns didn’t. So he asks the guy the question…doesn’t like the response…and still has to have his feelings known. What an idiot!
Fatcessa is also the guy who said Keith Hernandez told him he wanted to be Mets manager. He also said years back that Mike Piazza was very unhappy with the Mets and would never sign with them when he was a free agent. We all know how that one worked out. The guy is just nuts.
I would just like to point out… Matt thanks Franco S. for the link?! I posted that story in this blog about 5 times in the last 24 hours! Thanks for nothing, Matt!
(P.S. Mike Francesca is an idiot.)
In my opinion, Church’s hot start and injury troubles have earned him a second shot on this team. He was disappointing in the last couple weeks (as was the whole team, really) but I think, when healthy, he can be a pretty valuable part of this team.
In completely unrelated news, after reading the sheer immaturity and idiociy in this thread, I’m off to get my tubes tied.
Free Aaron Heilman is the dumbest poster on this site….did i really just read a post of him saying Church is better than Nady…he left out the stat where Nady bats .300 and Church bats .275
Hilarious! You really are either a troll or an idiot.
Huh? You’re using one single stat from one limited (for Church) season to try to make a case for Nady … while I used CAREER stats over many seasons to show that Church is a superior fielder and slightly better hitter?
And you call me dumb?
Oh, ok.
this from a guy who wouldnt want someone with career averages of
30hr, 110rbi, 310ba, 390 obp, 300 Risp, 307 late and close and just for the late season thrills we have had lately he bats 327 in sept/oct
on his team….always remember to consider the source of comments
that is for airfeet aka tech
You wouldn’t be talking about Mr. D Dub, Aka David Wright, would you?
ding ding we have a winner…i guess those two (airfeet and tech) dont want to comment on what we do have, and that we should worry about what is really wrong with this team
It’s more fun to scream and complain when guys don’t come thru than to appreciate when they do. And baseball, since it’s a game of failure, gives them plenty of chances.
nail…..head…..you hit it !!!!
Since I’m in Atlanta and haven’t been listening, has Francesa said anything about Utley coming through with a big 2 run double today? From what I heard, it was on a ball that hit off of Mike Cameron’s glove and should’ve been caught.
cameron took a bad route… no questions asked, he took a bad route…. utley hit it hard, but it shoulda been an out…
Rollins popped up with men on base, wasn’t clutch
I saw the highlight. Cameron played it poorly but still should’ve caught it. It was in his mitt and he dropped it.
Plan:
Lineup: J. Reyes SS, Murphy 2B, Wright 3B, Beltran CF, Delgado 1B, Church RF, Rocco Baldelli LF, Schneider C
Bench: Jacque Jones OF platoon, Nick Evans 1B/OF platoon, Endy Chavez OF, Luis Castillo 2B, Ramon Castro C
Rotation: Santana, Pelfrey, Perez, Maine, Niese
Bullpen: Feliciano, Schoeneweis, Smith, Kunz, Parnell, Wheeler, Fuentes
minors: Mark Prior, Carl Pavano, Carlos Muniz, Willie Collazo
C’mon … Schowenwies still on the team? anyway, nice effort.
Francessa said today that the 07 bullpen was not the cause of the 07 collapse, that the bullpen did not let down the 07 team…
LOL LOL LOL LOL LOL LOL
Actually, the starting pitching let them down more. I believe the starters only went beyond the fifth inning 2 or 3 times in the last 17 games.
perhaps… but no one can say the pen didn’t let them down in 07…. my everlasting memory of that season was the late-season game in florida when, i think it was in the 9th, marlon anderson hit a bases loaded triple… i was going nuts… only to watch Sosa cough it up.
the game that i think did us in this year was Ayala giving up the homer to Greg Norton… those two games were when i knew we were in serious trouble.
I remember Glavine’s last 3 starts which were all awful and Brian Lawrence and Phillip Humber making starts and not making it through 5 even though they were given early leads.
I don’t have the #s here, but on the Brewers Phillies game they kept saying that the Brewers pen was a big reason why they had so many comeback wins in September…
… and yet all I hear from Francessa is that the Brewers pen was just as bad as the mets pen… and it was braun and fielder who carried them to rise above and were more clutch than wright and reyes

i love church. he’s a gamer. his arm is a beauty and his defense is gold glove caliber.
He was haven’t a breakout year before he went down.
he would of been an allstar if it wasn’t for the injuries. he did hit a bunch of doubles when he was in that huge park the nats use to have. he said his doubles would change to homers and he did hit 10 by then end of the first month this season.
to say he hates new york is false. the guy played trough a hip injury and wanted to play trough a concussion !
he’s a grinder. churchy is here to stay.
lets just hope he comes back healthy next season and is ready to play.
p.s. francesa is a fat cow ! mets hater bigtime he is -_-
You guys complain about Francessa too much. He doesn’t even hate the Mets like most of you claim. I have been listening to his show for years and he is usually fair to the Mets. And I am sure all of you would be more then fair to the Yankees if you ran a radio show (rolls eyes). It was Dogg that used to try to get everybody all crazy with his nonsense. People that actually think rationally realize trading Wright or Reyes should be a real possibility, especially Wright.
The rest of you just give the same answer. He is the face of the franchise! Yopu are so stupid!
Other people realize the Mets have not done anything besides underachieve while Wright was here. Is it his fault? No. Is he untouchable? No way.
What I don’t understand is the Mets have one of the worst bullpens in baseball. Certainly the worst of any team contending for the playoffs. So the answer is let’s trade David Wright. Yeah, that’s it.
Plus everyone has it wrong anyway. A trade is never about who you give up it’s what you get back. You could never get true value for Wright. This is not fantasy baseball where you can convince your little brother to trade you 9 all-stars for one player. He’s one of the best hitting 3b in baseball. He has a reasonable contract.
I just don’t get it.
why do anybody bothers to litsen to the fat man? i cant stand francessa he doesnt know nothing about the yankees or the mets. to me he just big fat idiot. who loves running his mouth.
If you watch YES you will see that Mike drinks alot of Diet Coke. That will twist your brain. His view is distorted.to many Chemicals
