Who says there's no crying in baseball?

My wife and I watched from home and were bawling. Truly a touching and wonderful farewell to a place so many of us have loved.

Regarding who's no longer with us (with date of demise):

Donn Clendenon-Sept 17 2005
John Milner-Jan 4 2000
Tommie Agee-Jan 22 2001
Tug McGraw-January 5 2004
Cal Koonce-October 28 1993
Don Cardwell-Jan 7 2008
Gil Hodges-April 2 1972

That's only the most obvious I can think of.

Uh, an FYI-Franco was the winning pitcher in Game 3 of the Subway Series, not Reed.

Great post Matt. You captured the feel. I was also there with my family. As we walked down the ramp at the Upper Deck I snuck back up the ramp for one final look. I stopped for a moment and thought about all the fun and great days I had at Shea. From my dad taking me to my first game in 1971 to all the lonely days and nights I spent there in the mid to late 70's when seemingly no one cared, through 1986 when we stomped on the National League after all those tough days of the 70's, to the day I took my own son and have made him a bigger diehard than myself and right up and through Sunday. All great memories. I snapped a mental final picture in my mind of Shea as I knew it. Walking back in the tunnel I had to act as if I had gotten lost. Just so I wouldn't tear up in front of my wife and son. No matter what anybody says it was a great ride.

I would have biooed him because he's a stone Bush supporter

No matter what opinion is put out there-It was truly twisted for the Mets to blow the season on Sunday then have this happy touchy feely ceremony. It had a very "only the Mets could do this crap" kind of feel to iy

That's exactly why the crowd booed. I saw in an interview that Al Leiter understood why they booed and he took it all in stride. He wasn't offended.

Dave, there are various sequences of letters that appear to cause posted comments to get filtered out. One taht catches a lot of people is the letter sequence a-s-s (obviously without the hyphens). Unfortunately, in addition to keeping people from using that word or variations of it, it also blocks posts including perfectly innocuous words like a-s-s-i-s-t, or a-s-s-o-c-i-a-t-e, or c-l-a-s-s.

Another such letter sequence is s-u-c-k. Less likely to appear in the middle of a word, but still a word that you can use in a sentence in a most innocent way. Doesn't matter; it makes your post disappear.

I believe there are others; but those are the two I know of.

My family and I drove down from Vermont to see The final Piazza Game and we had upper deck seats. A Dude walked up to us and sold us tickets to the Diamond Suite. When we got there we found out it was the Verizon Box and they had all the food and drink you wanted FREE. All the people there where sales people from Verizon and some where not even METS fans. They all got the tickets free.

Anyone know why the crowd booed Al Leiter? Is it because he's with the YES network? I never had a problem with Leiter
