"... but I kick it to you hard and real.
One wrong move ... and your cap's peeled.
I ain't no superhero.
I ain't no Marvel comic
But when it comes to game, I'm atomic
At droppin' it straight point blank and untwisted.
No imagination needed, cause I lived it.
This ain't no *#@$ing joke,
This &$*@ is real to me.
I'm Jerry Manuel,
O.G."

The issue is that there were no options...At the end of the day, the team was a game under .500 with Willie for a half season, and nearly 20 games over .500 in the other half. Obviously Jerry did help this team to perform, and thats what counts. Is it possible that Manuel can coax that one extra win out of the team had he managed the full season? Surely.

Look, I want Manuel back, but he has zero hand.

If he does not want to accept a 2 year deal based on a good job, but not a great one, cause he let it slip away too, then so be it.

If he is going to dawdle, offer the job to Oberkefell, do not pick up Delgado's option and entertain the possibility of dealing Beltran and move on.

The only absolute value that Jerry has is keeping the veterans on point, otherwise, buh-bye and you have a great deal of cause to reload.

"Their" means belonging to them. "There" refers to a vague place. They're is a contraction of they + are.

zen's comment was that they low ball managers....and they do....and up until that last couple of years the wilpons were being frugal with their payroll and frankly i still think they are....i understand we are not the yankees with revenue...but we are close and could spend more than we do now.....i guess we will see how much they care about winning or how much they care about making money this offseason

Well I think that Jerry got a clubhouse that was in disaray and full of bad feelings. He also got a pen full of garbage and a starting rotation and starting line up that was falling apart day by day. He turned it around and almost got us there. IF you took back 4 of the blown saves by the pen we are there. We had 30 blown saves, the highest in the MLB. All 30 of those where not under Jerry's watch. You also have to work with what you got. Heilman was going to be in the pen and had to used at some time as did Show, sanchez and Pedro, so it was a loose loose. who ever you used was a bad choicse.

Good info ridethesnake. You should keep that on hand and post it every time someone says the kid won't be able to play 2nd base.

Murphy played 2b as a kid and all the way through high school. He switched to 3b because he was too good a hitter and the weaker hitters were better 2bmen.

In Bingo he asked to be moved back to 2b and impressed the coaches:

From Daily News in July:
Through 15 games he had committed three errors, but Murphy has drawn positive reviews.

"We gave him a crash course at second base and he's been playing there like he's been there forever," Oliveras said.

"I'm very pleased, very happy with the way he's played. He's got the makeup to make the change from third base to second base. I'll tell you, I played both of them, and in the whole infield I think second base is the most difficult position to play - especially on a double play, you don't see when the runner is coming. He has done an outstanding job."

I would like to see Jerry back, but, if that is not going to happen then I would say bring in Gary Carter,
