sorry to say this and of course it will never be proven correct but IMO

manny at trade deadline = playoffs

  3. zen says:

manny bieng manny can walk on water.

omar must sign manny. he = playoffs. manny and k-rod = world series title

We can always just get Fuentes. Just go after Manny this guy is clutch. Something our offense isn’t!

  5. jammer says:

don’t get me wrong. i would love to have manny on the mets but lets be realistic, you have a limited budget and we all know the biggest met need is
    1) bullpen
    2) starting pitching
    3) everyday lineup

i am shocked how we want to blame the hitting. yes, we stunk in the last week but in all fairness, if our bullpen was just bad instead of pathetic we would have won the division going away. mets would have had the best record in baseball if we just blew 1/2 the saves we did.

lets be realistic, we won’t get manny + o. hudson. i think we need a solid righty in the outfield and a whole lot of help in the bullpen.

    GUYS IM HIGH

Man, people were bashing our fans for booing, the Cubs fans are being such babies right now. I guess after 100 years it wears on you, but I can’t recall us ever booing our own players in the 2nd game of a series coming off one our best seasons in a looong time.

  8. nastyslider says:

Get Manny, K-Rod, and trade for Halladay!!!!

    • Nastyslider,

I want to trade for Halladay as well. However, I think we would have to give up Wright or Reyes to do so. My preference would be to give up Wright.

I’m going to get bashed by everyone for saying it, but those are clearly people who don’t understand how dominant this guy has been in the AL. We don’t have a legitimate #2 starter right now. I am not comfortable going into the season with Maine, Pelfrey, or Derrek Lowe as our #2 starter. Sorry. Gotta give quality to get an ace. An ace who is under a reasonable contract ($14.5MM) for the next 2 yrs.

Why would the Jays want Wright? They have Glaus at 3B and while Wright is much better what would be the point? Glaus and Halladay > Wright and nobody.
Their holes are at 2nd and SS. It would take Reyes. Then you would have to ask a similar question?
        Reyes, Burnett/Lowe=> Just Halladay?

        • AL has a DH.

They could try to sign O-Dog or Furcal. They have Adam Lind who can play 2B. Furcal would be a nice addition. They’ll also have money to sign a few quality pitchers. I’m just saying, they can lose with Halladay and they can lose without him. Why not try to get a young superstar back for him while he still has value? After this season, his value is peaked.

        • therealsince86 says:

But what I am saying is that if they did trade Halladay it would either be A) we are giving up and want to rebuild. Thus they would want 5+ prospects. Or B) We need to fill all our holes. Thus at that would be 2B, SS, DH, and SP depth with Burnett leaving. If they traded Halladay they would need another SP too. It just does not make sense with the Mets. Now a team like the Braves if they traded Escobar, a top pitching prospect and a 2B then it would make sense.

        • I think we have to agree to disagree. While Escobar seems to have a lot of talent and promise, he is oft injured and hasn’t produced. I like Escobar too, but David Wright is in a complete other world ahead of Escobar.

I think Toronto would seriously consider a trade for David Wright. That would at least get them to the table to discuss Halladay.

        • therealsince86 says:

Maybe if their intent was to swing Wright for someone else maybe. I don’t think Escobar is anywhere near Wright. It’s about the package. If the Braves sent them 3 holes they currently have that are MLB ready that package would be better than just Wright.

        • therealsince86 says:

Like I said, I could see Reyes and Niese for Halladay. I would have to really think about that one though.

        • I would not trade Reyes in any deal. I think he is way too valuable a commodity, young, and under a very reasonable contract. I think Wright is more expendable and any package topped by David Wright is more attractive than a package of 3 prospects, fronted by a guy who has really just been OK at the major league level - AND who is actually Wright’s age (older by a month) :-)

  9. Nightlife says:

They are still pitching Zambrano in the 7th in a 6-0 game. What in the hell.

  10. Sylar says:

    2008 Cubs= 2007 Cowboys

  11. jammer says:

no way mets are going to get manny and krod. i would love to but there is no way they will shell that type of money. lets be realistic. plus they still need to sign a perez or a derek lowe to be the 3rd pitcher.
they need a complete overhaul of the bullpen.
i would love for murphy to work out at 2nd base but you just can’t count on a rookie who had only 113 ab to be your everyday starting 2nd baseman.

there is no question that castillo was out of shape. he will never be the castillo of 2003 but he will probably be better than 2008 version. lets hope he comes to spring training in better shape so trading him might be a little easier.

    What’s worse?
    1. Getting eliminated from playoff contention on the last regular season game back to back years or..
2.Possibly getting swept back to back years in the NLDS by an NL West team.

    • Oooof. This Dodgers team reminds me so much of the 1999 Knicks. I think it was 1999 anyway. The strike shortened season that Patrick Ewing missed basically the entire regular season. They snuck into the playoffs as the 8 seed, beat Miami at the buzzer and went on to the Finals.

Well, this Dodgers team got a stud at the trade deadline…and kinda snuck in (they stole the division from Arizona). All I know is, I really hope they beat up on Philly if they see ‘em. I hate that team and their fans.

By the way, nice of them to claim to be holier than thou about Reyes’ antics. I saw Shane Victorino pointing to the sky after he crossed home plate last night. We can all nitpick.
