Tonight at 8 pm, SNY will re-air Shea
Goodbye: The Closing Ceremony, a one hour version of Shea Stadium’s closing ceremonies that took place this past Sunday.
By the way, to a recap of Sunday’s post-game ceremony from Shea Stadium, courtesy of SNY, click here.
Lastly, also tonight at 7 pm on SNY, Mets Weekly spends time on the bus with former players heading to Sunday’s events, including Darryl Strawberry and Cleon Jones, through their time in the terrace to the on-field celebration.

according to sny.tv, the Mets Weekly special is on Saturday night, not tonight.
I wish they’d get more behind the scenes footbage, and not just the on-field ceremony.
I wouldn’t be surprised to see a DVD come out soon with the whole ceremony and outtakes as you have described.
Too bad they couldn’t wait and add it to the Shea Goodbye DVD already out.

i didnt think id tear up, but when they shoot off those fireworks at the end after piazza and seaver close the gates, it gets to ya
I agree, it did bring a tear to my eye. Piazza was and still is my all time favorite METS. I was a fan duirng the 1986 series and I reemember watching those playoff games against Houston into the night. But, after 1986 they started to dismantle the core team and it was never the same again, By 1992 when the strike hit I had lost all interest in baseball. It was not until 1998 when I heard about this Piazza guy that the METS had signed that I got interested again. I went to my first game at SHEA as an adult in 2000 against the Yankees and watched Piazza rule Roger, I was hooked since then. Piazza got me inetersted again and brought respectrablity back to a lost team.
Thank you for posting that. Being overseas meant that I wasn’t able to see the closing ceremonies and won’t be able to catch it on repeats either. Just those few minutes were great.
I still can’t believe that the next time I’m in NY Shea will be gone. It’s like when your parents move out of the house you grew up in. Just doesn’t seem right; home is never really home again.
Funny how easily I recognized some guys and couldn’t put a name to others. Seeing Wayne Garret & Felix Milan was great. They were both instantly recognizable to me.
And, most amazingly, how is it that Sid Fernandez is now thinner than Ron Darling?
It aired again last night-had to watch it.
My wife and I saw it the first time and bawled like babies. A part of us will be gone soon.
Great to see all the former Mets stars there. Even the cult favorites like “Stork” Theodore (remember that collision with Don Hahn in the outfield on July 7,1973? Stork dislocated a hip in the collision), the original Frank Thomas and Ron “Hit Me” Hunt brought a smile to us.
And with Mikey catching the last pitch from Tom Terrific (who, by the way, won the first Mets game I ever went to-see my ID for the date-also went to #41’s return to Shea in 1983 and the Labor Day 1975 game where Seaver set the record for most 200 K seasons in a row), it’s only a prelude to next year’s retirement of #31.
