In his most recent mailbag for MLB.com, Marty Noble writes the following about free-agent 2B Orlando Hudson:
“From what I’m told, Hudson, a free agent, yearns to play for the Mets. I can’t be sure of that. I don’t know him. But what I know of him would suit the Mets’ purposes quite well. Whether or not Hudson wants to play at Citi Field, money will be a factor, and the $18 million owed Castillo can make it an issue.”
Hudson, who has missed parts of the last two seasons due hand and wrist injuries, hit .305 with 8 HR and 41 RBI in 107 games last season with the Diamondbacks.
…as i said yesterday, i believe hudson is a must sign this offseason…it’s clear the Mets have missed the energy and leadership abilities of Cliff Floyd the last two season…from what i have heard and read, hudson has many of those same clubhouse qualities…
Tagged Mike Nichols, Orlando Hudson |I realize it’s tough to watch a Met-free October, but I noticed a common thread among the remaining playoff teams and wrote a column about it on SNY.tv. The jist:
Of the four remaining playoff teams, not a single one hands the ball to a big-name free-agent acquisition with the game on the line. …
To put together a bullpen, a team needs an open mind and a short memory, not necessarily a fat wallet. The 2008 playoff teams have taken chances on scrap-heap acquisitions, converted young starters into relievers and made shrewd, buy-low trades.
For more on that and what it means to the Mets, go to SNY.tv.

Now that Jerry Manuel is back as the Mets manager and the honeymoon is over, Metstradamus won’t be surprised if the Mets have another slow start next season.

In his latest report for SI.com, Jon Heyman, citing ‘one GM,’ reports the Mets will make a ‘big play’ for Manny Ramirez this offseason.
Meanwhile, according to Tracy Ringolsby of the Rocky Mountain News, Ramirez’s agent Scott Boras has said his client will command a five-year deal worth $85 million for the veteran sluggers services.
In 53 games for the Dodgers this season, Ramirez batted .396 with 17 HR and 53 RBI.
Prior to being traded to the Dodgers, Ramirez hit .299 with 20 HR and 68 RBI in 100 games for the Red Sox.

In an article for the Daily News, Mark Hale notes that Howard Johnson wants to return to the coaching staff in 2009.
Johnson, in regards to coaching next year:
“Oh, sure, absolutely. The way I look at this year, we failed because we didn’t reach our goal of getting to the postseason. But when I look at us offensively, we had a lot of positives, and our positives outweighed our negatives.”
Hale also writes that bench coach Sandy Alomar Sr. wants to return next year as well.
…the offense looked great at times, and i feel he did a good job, especially if he had anything to do with carlos delgado’s turnaround…however, i feel that delgado is his own coach at this point, and the offense, like other areas of the team, lacked consistency…i’d like to see this team play small ball more, move runners over, leave less runners on base etc., but overall i like hojo and hope he returns in some capacity…
