In his blog for Newsday, Anthony Rieber compares the remnants of Yankee Stadium that will be sent to Cooperstown to those from Shea Stadium.
Yankee Stadium include Derek Jeter’s spikes when he set the record for most hits, Jeter’s bat from the final homestand, the spikes used by Jose Molina when he hit the last home run at the stadium, and a bat used by Johnny Damon when he homered during the final game.
From Shea Stadium, a cap and shirt worn by umpire Brian Gorman during the final game.
…i understand that yankee stadium is much more storied than shea, but do i really need to comment on this…ridiculous…
Tagged Regis Courtemanche, Shea Stadium |During a chat for ESPN.com, Keith Law had the following to say when asked about Daniel Murphy playing second base in the Arizona Fall League and if it was wishful thinking on the Mets part that he will show adequate range and hands for the position.
“He didn’t have a single moderately difficult play, so I can’t tell you whether it’s crazy or not. I’m skeptical of the plan, though. The OF->2b and 3b->2b conversions don’t often work out unless the guy was a fair shortstop to begin with.”
Later in the chat, Law was asked where do you think the Mets will draw the line on Oliver Perez, 6-years $80 million or 4-years $60 million? Law’s answer:
Tagged Oliver Perez |“No way I’d go 6 years with him. That would go into the worst contract of the offseason discussion.”
At his blog for ESPN.com, Buster Olney breaks down the potential teams that would fit free-agent 2B Orlando Hudson.
As far as the Mets are concerned, Olney writes:
“It seems all but certain that the Mets will work to dump Luis Castillo, whose signing was a mistake, and Hudson would fit New York perfectly in so many ways. He would give the Mets tremendous defense at second, covering a lot of the ground on the right side that Carlos Delgado doesn’t cover, and as a switch-hitter, he would fit in perfectly between lead-off man Jose Reyes and those who follow. But beyond all the on-field pluses that he would provide, the chatty Hudson would give the Mets another guy who is comfortable with the media — and in this way, he would give relief to David Wright, Delgado and Carlos Beltran.
The guess here is that Hudson would really help the mercurial Reyes maintain a level of consistency, and help the whole team work through the cloud of doubt that will inevitably hover over the team next September, when questions about the 2007 and 2008 late-season failures will pop up.”
Other potential suitors listed by Olney include the White Sox, Indians, Angels, Cubs, Cardinals, Reds, Yankees and Diamondbacks.
Before dislocating his left wrist on August 9th, Hudson was hitting .305 with 41 RBI and 40 XBH.

In an article for Bloomberg.com, Danielle Sessa notes that the Mets have sold out the luxury suites in Citi Field for as much as $500,000 a year.
Sessa writes:
“Mets season-ticket holders also are renewing at “extremely high” rates — even with price increases. The Mets began selling their 49 suites, with prices starting at $250,000 a year, in early 2007 and sold more than half by this spring”
…so why were suites highlighted on the citi field walking tour i took last month at shea…doubtful i’ll ever see the inside of one anyways unless i’m a guest…
In his first game for the Peoria Saguaros of the Arizona Fall League, Daniel Murphy was 2-for-4 with two strike outs and a run batted in.
As expected, Murphy started and played all nine innings at second base. He did not commit an error in his four chances.
…in my opinion, for murphy to be even considered to be the Mets second baseman next season, it’s important he shows the ablility to play the position during his time in the afl…
…i always find it interesting that fans think players can play any position on the field, but it’s not that easy…for example, look back at Mike Piazza‘s first base experience…
…the Mets would be making a mistake to just put murphy at second and let him ‘learn’ the position, as many fans have suggested…it’s too important of a defensive position on the field to let a young player learn as he goes, especially at the major league level…
