Right. he would get amped up to strike out more. Stay away, he's just not very good offensively or defensively.

The homers are a result of his playing time. The Mets (or Marlins for that matter) would get less homers but better production out of others. I'd be fine with an Evans/Jacobs platoon where they each played about half the time. The problem is that the Marlins would expect to trade Jacobs as a starting 1B, which isnt what the Mets would be getting.

well put metsftw, and his increased exposure to lefties has been the main reason why he has showed regressing. Making him... a platoon player!

jacobs doesn't show any signs of improving. hasn't improved his walk rate since he's been in the majors. in fact, it's gone down in the last 2 years (9% in '06 to 7% now) while his K rate has gone up. not good signs. he was a bit unlucky in the babip department this season, but the complete lack of plate discipline is a huge red flag for me.

correct. his problems was walks, though his walk rate wasn't much worse than k-rod's. he only gave up 3 bombs all year. (k-rod gave up 4). and no, i'm not implying that gregg > k-rod, or that gregg is the solution in the pen. in fact, gregg was pretty luck all year (262 babip with a 19% LD rate is pretty effin' lucky). he's likely to be worse next year.

Uggla also had a horrible 2nd half (.226, only 9 HRs -- compared with .286, 23 HRs in the 1st half). And as others mentioned above, he's atrocious in the field (though he always seems to make gold glove plays vs. the mets).

Well, the guy had 15 decisions (7-8), with 9 blown saves. I don't have time to look up every game he pitched, but that's a lot of decisions for a "closer".

He also walked 4.9 batters per 9 IP...

Jacobs hit 30+ homers last year in that Marlins Line up. I
Doubt he would be a backup to Evans.

Delgado walked 72 times - 19 of which were intentional.

I'll take an improving, young controlled slugger over a declining slugger coming off a year he will not repeat.

Not saying Jacobs is the answer, but there ARE options at First Base if we can get a good trade value for Delgado and sell high.
