What the Mets should have done was trade for Jason Bay at the trade deadline...Oh well with that being said ,If the Mets make a play for Manny fine...If they don't fine.
But we can't let this guy end up in Philly!!!I think if that happens this team will come up short for at least the next three years.

4 years at 100 million with a 5th year option. Hes worth every penny. He is one of the most clutch players of all time. Mets will win 1 maybe even 2 world series with Manny in the lineup. And bring the Pedro legitimacy that many people talk about. Other players will want to come to the met as well. I love manny,

Do it Omar.

Isn't Manny a type A free agent? The team that signs him will have to relinquish draft picks I think. Therefore, he would cost more than "just cash" as Matt states above.

5 years? please.

2 years max. maybe an option for a 3rd year if it's based on manny winning mvp or ws mvp

This is from about.com regarding free agency:

If there are 14 or fewer Type A or Type B free agents available, no team can sign more than one type A or B player. If there are between 15-38, no team can sign more than two. If there are between 39 and 62, there's a limit of three. However, teams can sign as many Type A or B free agents as they've lost, regardless of the limits above.

I absolutely agree with you that the 'thought that Manny is lazy' is ridiculous. Yea, he often jogs down the 1st base line, but I consider that frustration, not laziness. Unfortunately many fine baseball players don't run out routine ground balls.

However, the thought that he 'takes time off' is well grounded in fact during his stay in Boston. In '01 he left the ballpark before batting practice for 'personal reasons,' missing a Fenway Park celebration of Cal Ripken's career with Baltimore in town. In '04 he missed several games with an illness that did not keep him from meeting an old friend and former teammate in a hotel bar, it just kept him from playing. He has refused to enter a game as a pinch hitter. He has left the country, missing several games mid season due to family member illness which was later reported as a stomach ache. I think the 'takes time off' label validly sticks.

How are the Dodgers not listed as one of the teams that can afford Manny? They play in the 2nd biggest market, lead the league in attendance pretty much every year, and consistently have a high payroll.

That is my point. There's too many question marks with them team to think one big move is going to solve everything. We did the same thing with Santana last year and look where it got us, a whopping one game better.

Exactly, not having Manny was not Boston's problem. Plus they solved their left fielder issue not only for next year but for the next few years by bringing in Bay.
