Orlando Hernandez’s time with the Mets is all but over now as he has officially filed for free agency.

El Duque is 18-12 in 47 games with the Mets dating back to 2006.

Before the onslaught of posts bashing El Duque, this guy was our ace before his injury in 2007. While his injuries both years hurt us first getting to a WS and then reaching the playoffs, we wouldn’t be close without him.

stilltheEWM November 2, 2008 at 2:49 pm

uh.. yes.. yes we would.. we easily win the division in 06 without him…

and he did nothing in the playoffs or there after as you have already pointed out.

good bye and good riddance.

rustyjr November 2, 2008 at 3:10 pm

look i give a boatload of credit – i just feel we shouldve know that one year was like catching lightening in a bottle – and renewing his contract was a crap shoot

stilltheEWM November 2, 2008 at 3:24 pm

I’m just saying 9-7 with an era over 4 isn’t an ace… or really even lightning in a bottle.

If anything depending on him for the playoffs was a major downfall of the 06 team.

rustyjr November 2, 2008 at 3:39 pm

im talkin about 06 stilltheewm sorry i though u understood what i meant 07 was a crap shoot if u think about it pedro was the el dookie of 08

bkfitz November 2, 2008 at 3:41 pm

I was referring to 2007 when I said we wouldn’t have been close without him.

rustyjr November 2, 2008 at 3:46 pm

oh ok my mistake too bad in his last few spots he couldn even get past the 5th

CitizenSnips November 2, 2008 at 2:48 pm

We can’t get any draft picks for him, right?

Tidewater November 2, 2008 at 3:13 pm

right

rustyjr November 2, 2008 at 3:16 pm

damn i thought we could get a 200th round pick for him lol

L.E.S.metfan November 2, 2008 at 2:52 pm

Free agency? He should be retiring!

gottabelieve07 November 2, 2008 at 3:01 pm

He’ll probably sign on with the team the Mets will end up playing the final weekend of 2009.

He’ll talk some smack, and then go out there and throw 7 innings of shutout ball.

rustyjr November 2, 2008 at 3:05 pm

after a thermonuclear holocaust there will be the roaches and el dookie lol

metsfan1 November 2, 2008 at 3:02 pm

Don’t let the door hit you in the *ss.

rustyjr November 2, 2008 at 3:05 pm

Prismo November 2, 2008 at 3:12 pm

Thanks for all your help in ‘08 El Duque.

rustyjr November 2, 2008 at 3:15 pm

he took a long siesta and ate alotta platanos lol but in all fairness i think if he coulda came back he woulda he has the rep of being a gamer

Tidewater November 2, 2008 at 3:14 pm

I think we should sign him to a three year $45 million and then deal him to the Cubs for Carlos Marmol.

rustyjr November 2, 2008 at 3:15 pm

lmfao

bkfitz November 2, 2008 at 3:42 pm

Ricardo Rincon, Moises Alou, Tony Armas Jr., Luis Ayala, Ramon Martinez, and Pedro Martinez declared free agency yesterday.

rustyjr November 2, 2008 at 3:44 pm

bucknersankles November 2, 2008 at 3:46 pm

DON’T LET THE DOOR HIT YOU ON THE WAY OUT.

phukthephills November 2, 2008 at 3:57 pm

rustyjr November 2, 2008 at 3:58 pm

i’d rather offer that to doug sisk right now lol

lightsout123 November 2, 2008 at 4:20 pm

it better stay that way, and away from the mets.

Reyes es el Rey November 2, 2008 at 5:45 pm

Yea, that El Duque sure was a jerk. 264+ innings of above average work over parts of 2 seasons. A$$HOLE!

Don’t let the door hit you on the way out you stupid jerk. How dare you be old and injured.

Seriously, why the hostility towards El Duque. He was solid when healthy, and it’s not his fault Omar was relying on him in 07.

koosman November 2, 2008 at 7:50 pm

It wasn’t toward El Duque, it was toward the deal Minaya gave him.

youknowwhatimsayin November 3, 2008 at 10:05 am

Maybe it was his uncanny way of getting hurt when the team needed him most….

koosman November 2, 2008 at 7:49 pm

He should get at least a 2-year deal with an option for the third season. These past three years were an aberration.

Fiya Minaya November 2, 2008 at 10:50 pm

Bye bye to another thief

zen November 3, 2008 at 12:20 am

hide omar until el duque signs elsewhere or retires

youknowwhatimsayin November 3, 2008 at 10:07 am

LOL

I actually do not trust Omar. I would not put trying to bring back Alou and Duque past him…. though I think if he is even wasting one second even considering these guys… then he really is total incompetent.

Agees Catch November 3, 2008 at 8:26 am

3 yera 30 million should do it. El Duque has had some great seasons

Chris Jelic November 3, 2008 at 9:44 am

We need to act quick on a replacement! Do the Mets have a senior citizens fan club from which they can sign somebody to spend a year on the disabled list complaining of arthritis and bunions? We can’t go into Citi Field without this integral part of our roster in place.

Nate W. November 3, 2008 at 10:08 am

They could always bring back Claudio Vargas if they want.

Nate W. November 3, 2008 at 10:03 am

El Duque’s contribution to the Mets 18 wins over nearly three years and constant headaches to the GM trying to find suitable replacement starters for him.

Mets contribution to El Duque: $16.625 million US

or $923,611 per win.

money well spent!

rustyjr November 2, 2008 at 4:08 pm

furi just get a member of the bonnano familia to do it
