Before the onslaught of posts bashing El Duque, this guy was our ace before his injury in 2007. While his injuries both years hurt us first getting to a WS and then reaching the playoffs, we wouldn’t be close without him.

    • stilltheEWM says:

uh.. yes.. yes we would.. we easily win the division in 06 without him…

and he did nothing in the playoffs or there after as you have already pointed out.

      good bye and good riddance.

look i give a boatload of credit – i just feel we shouldve know that one year was like catching lightening in a bottle – and renewing his contract was a crap shoot

        • stilltheEWM says:

I’m just saying 9-7 with an era over 4 isn’t an ace… or really even lightning in a bottle.

If anything depending on him for the playoffs was a major downfall of the 06 team.

        • rustyjr says:

im talkin about 06 stilltheewm sorry i though u understood what i meant 07 was a crap shoot if u think about it pedro was the el dookie of 08

      • bkfitz says:

I was referring to 2007 when I said we wouldn’t have been close without him.

  2. CitizenSnips says:

We can’t get any draft picks for him, right?

  3. L.E.S.metfan says:

Free agency? He should be retiring!

    • gottabelieve07 says:

He’ll probably sign on with the team the Mets will end up playing the final weekend of 2009.

He’ll talk some smack, and then go out there and throw 7 innings of shutout ball.

  4. metsfan1 says:

Don’t let the door hit you in the *ss.

  5. Prismo says:

Thanks for all your help in ‘08 El Duque.

    • rustyjr says:

he took a long siesta and ate alotta platanos lol but in all fairness i think if he coulda came back he woulda he has the rep of being a gamer

  6. Tidewater says:

I think we should sign him to a three year $45 million and then deal him to the Cubs for Carlos Marmol.

  7. rustyjr says:

    lmfao

  8. bkfitz says:

Ricardo Rincon, Moises Alou, Tony Armas Jr., Luis Ayala, Ramon Martinez, and Pedro Martinez declared free agency yesterday.

  9. bucknersankles says:

DON’T LET THE DOOR HIT YOU ON THE WAY OUT.

  10. phukthephills says:

i say we offer him 5 yrs..$110 mil

  11. lightsout123 says:

it better stay that way, and away from the mets.

  12. Reyes es el Rey says:

Yea, that El Duque sure was a jerk. 264+ innings of above average work over parts of 2 seasons. A$$HOLE!

Don’t let the door hit you on the way out you stupid jerk. How dare you be old and injured.

Seriously, why the hostility towards El Duque. He was solid when healthy, and it’s not his fault Omar was relying on him in 07.

  13. koosman says:

He should get at least a 2-year deal with an option for the third season. These past three years were an aberration.

  14. Fiya Minaya says:

    Bye bye to another thief

  15. zen says:

hide omar until el duque signs elsewhere or retires

    • youknowwhatimsayin says:

      LOL

I actually do not trust Omar. I would not put trying to bring back Alou and Duque past him…. though I think if he is even wasting one second even considering these guys… then he really is total incompetent.

  16. Agees Catch says:

3 yera 30 million should do it. El Duque has had some great seasons

  17. Chris Jelic says:

We need to act quick on a replacement! Do the Mets have a senior citizens fan club from which they can sign somebody to spend a year on the disabled list complaining of arthritis and bunions? We can’t go into Citi Field without this integral part of our roster in place.

  18. Nate W. says:

El Duque’s contribution to the Mets 18 wins over nearly three years and constant headaches to the GM trying to find suitable replacement starters for him.

Mets contribution to El Duque: $16.625 million US

    or $923,611 per win.

    money well spent!

  19. rustyjr says:

furi just get a member of the bonnano familia to do it
