The only way I t rade him is if we hold teams hostage. They are getting a 30+HR, 100+RBI guy for $12MM (a bargain in today’s market). There are plenty of teams that could use him. Heck, Kansas City could probably afford him for a year to try and make a run at it.

Point is, unless the package blows you away, I wouldn’t trade him.

Right, but nothing else. Considering closer is top priority, and a top-tier closer will cost up to $15M, plus new set up men who could combine for $10M plus, those funds are dwindling.

Not to mention, something scares me about C.C….I know he is a beast, but the Brewers seemingly pitched him on 3 days rest every start for about a month….He is a big guy, but can he handle the work load?

why can yankees and angels talk about getting Tex AND Sabathia … Metsbloggers (and maybe Mets, don’t know) are stuck on considering second tier players. i think Texeira is young yet proven and very talented. He is a better option than Delgado. He/Boras will supposedly go to the highest bidder. i think we go out, spend some citifield money and get him.

If we can’t get Tex, then Delgado is a good backup plan … but let’s consider trying at least!

BTW opening day payroll for mets last year per cot’s contracts was 138M. Cerrone said a week or so ago that Mets could increase payroll by up to 20 percent (i think that’s what he said). Even w/150M payroll, we can afford a new 20M 1B AND a new 20M pitcher).

The downside risk is that Delgado ’09 = Frank Thomas ’08. He’s too much of a superstar to sit no matter how bad his performance gets.

The upside is he plays ’09 like the second half of ’08, but I consider that unlikely.

as long you get get a young promising prospect or fill another hole on the team, i’m all for moving the soon-to-be 37yr old who can’t play D, run, and is a minor injury away from repeating 07. You sell high.
