k-rod thinks he’s worth 25 mil a year. baseball players are idiots, don’t be naive. the’re just as dumb as football, basketball, and hockey players. he’s vastly overrated, and it’ll be funny when all of you are whining about how “overpaid” he is when he’s blowing 10 saves a year for us.

I think he even knows that….plus he is 26…he can sign a 4 year deal, continue being as good as he is and know that he can re-up for twice as much when he hits 30.

Figure he has about 9 more years before he hits 35.

He can sign now for a nice 3-4 year deal at 15 per and then sign another 2-3 year deal at 15 per.

the market keeps on going up and up and up

middle-relievers will be getting paid 10 mil per year in 6-7 years.

I think what alex meant was what star did we sign as a free-agent in their prime..

we traded for johan and RESIGNED him which is different…same goes for Reyes and Wright…

to be honest…I think the last STAR in his prime that we signed as a free-agent might have been Robin Ventura…if you dont consider him a star than you might have to go back to Bobby Bonilla…

of course we get bobby bonilla for 5 year 25 mil and then dont have money for bonds who signed with the Giants for only 2.6 million more per year…

But at least we traded for younger cheaper players with some upside. Vargas and Bostick had had decent years in the minors and Lindstom and Owens were running out of options. Not to mention Lindstrom and Owens aren’t nearly on the level of guys like Martin and Kemp/Either. The difference between Lindstom and Owens and Vargas and Bostick is a lot different than the difference between Martin and Either/Kemp and Varitek and Juan Pierre/Jones.

Mo is the exception to the rule. What other 36+ yr. old closers are still dominating? Hoffman, Todd Jones? There are VERY FEW even closing at this point. Most of them are merely peripherals now.

Mariano will go down in history as arguably one of THE greatest to play the game. His production, even now, doesn’t surprise me anymore…
