the mets need to sign Derek Lowe

he’s a perfect #2-3 starter and considering Citi field is supposed to be a pitchers park his sinker should do wonders here.

Next the mets have to either trade for a closer or sign K-Rod or Fuentes and add 2-3 arms to the pen

Then if the Mets trade for a closer then you sign Orlando Hudson and if they sign a closer you trade for Freddie Sanchez. He’s not a great player, but he’s doesn’t strike out, hits for a high average (2 years removed from a .344 avg), plays good defense and shouldnt cost too much.

Finally you dump castillo and look for a 5th starter. Maybe the mets can get Dontrelle or Mulder at a bargain cost or even Pedro at a incentive-laden contract. Jason Marquis would be a perfect option. Niese isnt ready yet.

Go after Cordero, by all means, but nothing expensive. Incentives, incentives.

Several teams are interested in Heilman. Oblige them.

Beimel and Cruz would be worth going after, maybe Putz (though that name!). I agree, keep Smith; let Stokes have another shot. Stick with youth whenever possible, which means Fuentes may not be worth it.

Cordero is coming off an injury, but hes def worth rolling the dice on, and Fuentes may be 33, but him and Wags are twop completley different players. one, Wags is 5’11 and relied on his fastball, While Fuentes is 6’4. As for Darren, he did a great job in 06 but he is 38 so..

Signing Cordero is a good option as long as he’s not the guy we’re relying on. He can’t be slotted into the 7th or 8th inning role just because of his name. He needs to prove he’s healthy and can still pitch. I’d give him a cheaper contract on a one year deal. Maybe a team or vesting option.

I like Cordero. Not as a closer, but a 7th or 8th inning setup guy. Roll the dice give him a one year 3 million contract with an option. Low risk, very high reward.

I just wish he worked for another (read: successful) organization before returning to Los Mets.
