To check out the latest photos of Shea Stadium, taken by Tom Kaminski in Chopper 880, click here.
Basically, the infield, scoreboard, dirt, grass and dugouts are totally gone – all that is left is concrete ands seats.
Also, you’ll notice that the infield of Citi Field has been created, and for the first time, it’s starting to look like a baseball field, which is exciting.

New ballpark is looking good, I go past it everyday I head off to work on the 7 train. When Shea Stadium is completely tore down, I might mistake Citi field for something other than a baseball stadium. I’m just not used to looking at a big baseball stadium.
I mean Shea wasn’t that small, but certainly compared to Citi Field, it is to me.
Is that the real field config? It looks like the foul line would run right into the right and leftfield stands.
You can see the layout/foul lines, etc on mets.com
Those RF overhanging porch seats will be cool.
Oh Tadium,
I lament for thee.
Ok, now that was funny
What a crazy outfield at Citi
Yes. Outfield defense becomes more relevant in the new park methinks.
I just hope Church doesn’t run into one of those crazy juts and get another concussion.
Sad but true. On a lighter note, any future Bobby Abreu visit to Citi will be a treat for us Met fans (provided he’s not wearing blue and orange).
No foul territory at all down the lines. I guess that some of Reyes’s triples to the RF corner at Shea will be doubles at CitiField.
Yup…Looks like any hit down the line will bounce right into LF or RF and not down to the wall. Triples become doubles and doubles become singles.
i was gonna say…citi apears to have as little foul territory as any stadium i’ve ever seen.
Which means Citi will play as more of a hitters park than Shea did…not a good thing.
Well we gotta close the “fair-ness” gap with Philly. They get to play 81 games in williamsport.
Corner OFers better know how to slide to the ball.
damn right…
And what is with that RF cul-de-sac…that is weird looking.
I shudder thinking about Ryan Church coming over to catch a FAIR ball there. It all seems a little ridiculous.
These photo’s are a great way to see what the actual dimensions of the ballpark will be like – there looks like there is NO foul territory (other than seats) in RF / LF (almost looks like the seats are in fair territory – Bartman beware!), and likely some crazy bounces from the cutout in RF.
I think I’m gonna be a big fan of the LF seats. We never really had Outfield seats right on the warning track. Not to mention multiple levels of seats on the warning track. Thats gonna be a nice fan-area. Also curious how that will effect the wind.
I hate seeing Shea like that. I can’t wait for Citi, but it weirds me out every time I see an updated photo. Ah.
Cannot wait to go there opening day.
It seems the next step for old shea is the wrecking ball. It will be a parking lot by the end of December.
notice how there is a citi field logo that is flat and visible for aerial shots?
yea thats a nice little nod to the airport. More advertising too.
they want Ludwick AND other talent for a 1 yr rental?
didn’t Ludwick on his own have a better year than Holliday last year?
focus on pitching.
oops; somehow I replied to wrong thread.
yes, citi looks lovely.
hopefully those mysterious 15 game packages are actually offered to me and are worthwhile.
full season ticket holder here just sold a sunday plan my seats are 526 row 4 aisle if your interested in any plan i can guarentee you ill offer you a better deal than the mets
So you’re looking to lose money on your seats? interesting..
While that was funny…I’m guessing his value of selling a custom package would be cheaper than buying a similar package straight from the mets. IOW…his price-per game was prolly cheaper than a typical Mets mini-package.
prolly?
yes…short for probably.
Is it just me or does there appear to be more ‘CitiField’ signage than you’d see at most ballparks? They’re really getting their $20MM/year worth for those naming rights…
they’re company is gonna need all the help they can get.
wow…my bad. their*
Eh..having been to Safeco, Petco and other new-ish stadiums, the signage is par for the course. You won’t see the roof ones unless you are landing at LGA or watching a blimp shot on TV.
The cutout in RF is ridiculous. Why not put an obstacle course too? Move Church to left! Very little foul area. And I hope the ball doesn’t hit the stands jutting out behind the bases a la Philly’s stadium. With the deeper power alleys, Reyes will get his triples there.
I’m supposing the 3rd base side would be the “shade side” sitting in the upper deck, yes?
Can’t wait to see the tribute to that Great Met, too. The Jackie Robinson Rotunda will make me proud to be a rooter of the orange and blue for sure.
