You could say that about some guys in the pen as well. A lot of those guys have had good to great years in the recent past.
Bullpens are hard to figure out, even more difficult than “clutch” hitting.

Statisically Castillo was one of our most clutch players last season.

maybe as a mid innings guy for his “guile”, and emergency closer. Pump him full or roids and hope you get some good innings before he gets caught!

The pen was talent. Situational hitting is harder to pin down, especailly when some guys that didn’t do well at it had in the past.

So that could easiely improve in ’09 with the same personel (via coaching, mindset, luck, law of averages, etc.)

The pen isn’t getting better without player moves.

other than this is adding 2 more 37 YO players, which popular opinion sems to say is a bad thing to do, sure!

Lowe for 3-4 years, no.

I do like Dye if he comes fairly cheap (as in a salary dump). Especially if they can unload Castillo too.

Something based on Vazquez and Dye for (Heilmann or Schoe) and Castillo seems like a nice start!

vargas got roughed up yesterday in the afl
