Links: Removal, Romero, Recovery, and Rogers

Anthony DeRosa of Hot Foot forwards a pic of Shea’s destruction and appropriately titles it “Dunked”.

…i wonder how much they will get for that thing since men’s room signs are selling for $250…

Phillies pitcher J.C. Romero grew up a huge Mets fan according to the Press-Register.

Bleacher Report lists their twelve steps to the Mets recovery including:

Step One: Admitting we are powerless over Mike Francesa

Step Three: Making a decision to turn our will and our lives over to Johan Santana as we understand him

Lastly, Kenny Rogers has filed for free agency according to MLB Pro Blog.

…did anyone else just shiver…

I wanted the Mets to sign Romero when the Red Sox dumped him. It would have allowed them to put Schoenweis on the DL b/c of his nagging knee.

please no rogers! remember him walking in the winning run against the braves?

Step #11 was HORRENDOUS. We give up F-Mart AND Niese For Jenks and Vazquez. there’s another two but I can’t remember. We apparenlty only have 24 people on our roster and we give up basically our whole farm system for Soaria, Jenks, Vazquez, and Bengie Molina. Seriously man, come on.

not true at all. if you stop listening to the show it will take a ratings hit and that will hurt him and the show especially with mr. russo gone.

lots of mets fans. stop listening.

I just had an interesting idea occur to me and I wasn’t sure if it was a good one or not, so here’s the idea and don’t bash me for suggesting it. It’s just a suggestion to think outside the box!

    Castillo for Zito + Cain

We get the LHP and RHP we need to fill out the rotation. Everyone knows what they are getting with Cain, and Zito would be one very expensive reclamation project financed by Cain’s cheapness and offset by Castillo leaving 3 years early. But Zito could be our #5 while he gets his head right again and if/when he did, he’d make a killer rotation along with the others.

So what do you all think?

No question that your idea is creative. However, I don’t think the Giants are so desperate A. for a 2nd baseman, and B. to get rid of Zito that they would ship Cain off to accomplish these things. I think they have multiple cheap controllable options for their middle infield in their system.

I certainly understand the frustration with and desire to get rid of Castillo, but I think realistically that he’s not going anywhere unless/until he showcases an ability to play adequately, and given that he’ll be another year removed from knee surgery and given that the Mets in house competition is so paltry, I believe he’ll get that chance in Queens in ‘09.

    • phukthephills says:

i would do that in a second if i were the mets…but it wouldnt happen

    • Gland says:

maybe castillo for zito straight up they would do, but for cain you’d have to toss in 2-3 top prospects.

  9. chico says:

Well of course they would do Zito for Cain straight up, they realize they made one of the biggest contractual mistakes of all time in signing Zito to that gargantuan contract. The idea is that Cain would unburden them of Zito’s contract. Would they be willing to to give up Cain in order to be rid of Zito’s contract? (7 years, 126M) so approximately 6 years, 108M remaining. Throwing in Castillo was meant to reduce the millions by 18M, so it would in reality be 6 years, 90M for Zito, plus Cain. I just don’t see us adding any meaningful prospects, because this deal is about $$ and the Giants not paying it anymore and us taking Cain to take over that obligation on their behalf.

I guess what I’m saying is:

Is this possible? Is it even a good idea? I don’t know if it’s realistic or not, or even if I like the idea, I’m just throwing it out there to see if it floats or not.

    • Genesis Does says:

Theyll never give up a great young pitcher to get rid of a mistake. Its worth it for them to keep paying Zito if it means keeping Cain on the roster.

That said, I would trade Castillo straight up for Zito. I hate castillo that much.
