News: Manuel Sixth in Voting
By Regis Courtemanche - Nov 12, 2008 4:25 pm

Mets manager Jerry Manuel has placed sixth in NL Manager of the Year honors according to the New York Post.

Manuel led the Mets to a 55-38 record after replacing Willie Randolph as manager of the team.

…not bad for someone who was the manager for just 57% of the year…

  1. He’s the managerial equivalent of CC Sabathia. The best out there but only for the second half.

  2. losmets5 says:

If Wright hadn’t swung at ball four, we might’ve made the playoffs and Manuel almost definitely would’ve won.

  3. NYsMaineMan says:

How about Dale Sveum getting a 3rd place vote….he managed 9 games or 5.5% of their games.

Whoever cast that vote should be tarred and feathered in a public square.

Edinson Volquez came in 4th in NL ROY voting.

      Edinson Volquez isn’t a rookie.

Yes, this is a very good point– a friend just sent me that information via email. Nice work.

What bunch of chumps vote on these things? !diots.

      • NYMETSFAN718 says:

What kinda stats did he pile up prior to the 08 season? if he did not meet a certian amount of appearances in prior years than yes he is a rookie. Hpw many Games did he pitch in?

        • Gina says:

You have to pitch 50 innings, doesn’t matter how many seasons, to no longer be considered a rookie. He’s pitched 67.1

        • NYMETSFAN718 says:

He has to pitch 50 innings in ONE Season. He has never done it till 08. so yes he is a rookie.

        • Gina says:

No you have to pitch 50 innings total. It doesn’t matter how many seasons.

“during a previous season or SEASONS, he has (a) exceeded 130 at-bats or 50 innings pitched in the Major Leagues”

that’s from mlb.com rules, regulations and statistics.

does that mean we can campaign for murph in 09?

        • stickguy says:

only if he is still a Met (and he danged well better be!)

        • rustyjr says:

I THINK HE WILL OR WE’D RUN OMAR OUT ON A RAIL !!

        • Dork says:

Murphy had 131 AB’s last year, so he’s not eligible for 2009.

        • WestCoastMets_since86 says:

good – then he won’t have to waste any time worrying about it, and can concentrate on learning to play 2B so he can start for us everyday (opening day?)

Mets manager Jerry Manuel has placed sixth in NL Manager of the Year honors……..

And he’s the #1 back stabber of the year.

  5. phukthephills says:

anyone know who got 2nd and 3rd?

  6. guierllNO MOta says:

I have no problem with any of this….all of those coaches teams overperformed, ours underperformed…I personally think Bochy shoulda won it for his AAA team not coming in dead last….

    • rustyjr says:

      overstatement of the day

    • Seavertheman says:

Our team didn’t “underperform”. Considering we lost our left fielder, right fielder, second baseman, and fourth and fifth starters for most of the year, and our closer during the stretch run, not to mention our backup catcher and second basemen, to injury, we did very well to keep it close. It doesn’t make it any easier to take. And you can blame Minaya for not having a deep enough backup system, if you like. But if you knew last April what would happen to the roster and still believe we’d be in contention on the last day of the season, well, you’d have been wildly optimistic.

    • Ceetar says:

Our coaching staff underperformed. the team didn’t..

  7. Ceetar says:

Personally, I would’ve voted for the Pirates manager over Manuel. I hope Manuel’s taking some lessons this offseason or something…learning something new..
