I disagree, they need to get back to having a closeout pen. K-Rod and Biemel is what I would be looking to do. Lowe is your third type A and you trade or stand pat with the offense/defense.

Pagan/Tatis in LF would get us by for one more year.
its the 1B/2B situation where the defense bothers me, they need to trade for someone who can play a slightly above average defense at one of those positions. And let Murphy play the other.

This is only slightly more than the Mets gave Schoeneweis a couple years ago. Its not like its that extravagant of a deal for a well regarded lefty set up man.

His couple of poor months in the bronx shouldnt outweird his few good years prior.

You know what I don’t get here. If Marte is a “Type A”, the Yanks would get two picks if they offer him arbitration. If he accepts arbitration, they still get him for one year at probably $4 million anyway, and don’t have to invest in him for 3 years at age 36 (especially since he didn’t do all that well in New York anyway). If not, they get a first round pick, a sandwich pick, and could just sign Biemel or Affeldt or Darren Oliver.

well when you factor in the picks the Mets would receive when Ollie inevitably signs elsewhere, its only as if we signed 1 type a, with regards to draft picks in ’09.

In the grandscheme of a baseball payroll, that is a slight increase…$4mill represents 3% of last years payroll.

No thanks. The only reliever on the Mets that should be getting paid 7 figures is K-Rod. Everyone else needs to be cross-over pitchers. I’m thinking AAA type SP, plus Ayala to setup and Smith. That’s it. No Show, Heilman, etc.

so do i.. i keep saying that even though as a team we went through hell last year we still had enough talent to almost over come it and make the playoffs, but with that said minaya shouldn’t even address hitting and should concentrate in pitching pitching pitching… then a big hitter.. TEIXEIRA.. i don’t know how u guys feel but i want delgado gone, as much as he helped us i feel he’s not the type of veteran this team needs. let wright be the captain of a young team and move from there.
