Toby Hyde of Mets Minor League Blog pleads his case for signing Kerry Wood, writing; “Wood throws more strikes and struck out more hitters [than K-Rod]. He’ll be cheaper. K-Rod is no longer the pitcher he once was. His strikeout rate dropped in 2008, while his walk rates have trended gently upward.”
At Southern Mets, Drew thinks Carlos Delgado gets no respect, and should have received more consideration for the MVP Award.
Gotham City Insider comically bids farewell to “The Iron Triangle”
Anthony DeRosa at Hot Foot discusses the fine cuisine options Mets fans will be able to choose from at Citi Field which include Shake Shack and Blue Smoke.
…my buddy eric will be glad to hear about blue smoke…as for the shack, i just hope the line isn’t as long as it is in madison square park, i’ve lost days of my life there…
Sadly, Fire Joe Morgan is no more.
Metsblog reader Matthew C. asks if this book by Keith Hernandez is legit.
…as much as i love keith, based on the title, i hope not…
Lastly, check out the interview that Seven Train to Shea did with SNY’s Ted Berg regarding the Hot Stove. Ted also wrote an article recently at SNY about next year’s outfield situation.

Is Wood a Type B free agent?
No he’s a Type A.
I dont think they offered him arbitration though, he recently said he would have come back for 1 year if they offered it. I would sign Wood, but he cant be our every day closer. We need someone without a history of injuries
The arbitration period isn’t up yet. If he gets signed before that deadline it is as if they did offer and the Cubs get the picks.
If I remember correctly, Hernandez is writing the preface or introduction of that book, but is not the author of the body of the book. That falls to Silverman. I could be wrong, of course.
More importantly, Sauerkraut better be served on all levels in Citifield!
no problem, just an extra $4.00
Citifield food options…When they begin accommodating vegans with more than overly salty pretzels, they can call their cuisine “revolutionary.” Looks like I’ll have to bring my own, as in the past…or will that even be allowed?
I dropped my dolly in the dirt…I asked my dolly if it hurt…all my dolly said to me was…wah…wah…wah!!!
You shouldn’t expect people to bend over backwards just because of your lifestyle choice. Cry more.
I love animals, they’re delicious!
wood would join wags for a deadly right/left combo on the dl
GO GET FRANCISCO RODRIGUEZ…what is everyone talking about…he is 26 years old, he deserves a 4-5 year deal as much as anyone…I don’t understand, what statistic tells you that he is in the decline, his strikeout ratio is HIGHER this past season than it was in his season when he struck out the career high 123 in 2004.
2004: 123 K’s in 84 innings=.68 k’s an inning
2008: 77K’s in 68.1 innings= .88k’s an inning
His Strikeout rate/ERA/HR allowed/hits allowed/walks have been all extremely consistent over the past 4 seasons and last season he nailed down a ML record amount of saves. I dont care what ANYONE says(ESPN writer, metsblog writer/reader etc.). This is the jewel of the relief pitching free agent group. He will command top dollar across 4-5 years and the Mets should go after him in full force. If they don’t get him and decide to go a cheaper route than thats fine. But I don’t want anyone to sit there and tell me that we’ll be better off with someone else closing our games in Citi Field for the next 4 seasons.
I think you need some work on your math skills.
Unless you wanted to find the innings/k, in which case a higher rate isn’t better, it’s worse.
That being said, I don’t understand how people could be that worried with a guy who just struck out more than a batter per inning.
GET K-ROD
Agreed.
Are you his agent?
Seriously, your math skills stink.
123 K’s in 84 innings equals 1.47 k’s an inning.
77k’s in 68.1 innings equals 1.13 k’s and inning.
His strikeouts per nine innings have gone downhill since that 2004 season, and he dropped to just over 10 this year. His OBP against has gone up the last two years as well.
Don’t be afraid to break out a calculator next time!!!
Somebody please tell me that Mama is coming over to citi field. I heard that Mama is retiring?!How is anyone susposed to watch a game without a Mama’s special!!??
i am all for the demolition and removal of the iron triangle. the sooner the better. it would be nice to have some respectability and civilization surrounding the new home of the mets as citifield opens to the public.
but how long until bloomberg’s plan comes to fruition? and will the “housing ” be affordable enough that joe sixpack can afford a nice place next to his Mets???
Per NY times:
The deal requires that 35 percent of the project’s 5,500 housing units be set aside for families who make less than $99,840 a year, or 130 percent of the city’s median income of $76,800. The original plan reserved just 20 percent of the units for families of those income levels.
What’s interesting is to see what they’ll do with schools. The neighborhood schools are overcrowded as they are, maybe they’ll build a nice school in the development just like they did in LIC West.
Nothing wrong with Keith writing a book! If you’ve never had a chance to check out “If At First,” it’s recommended reading.
I can’t believe Fire Joe Morgan is gone! I loved that site.
And right during MLB awards season, too.
We need them now more than ever.
With such a popular site, I’m surprised they would just let it die like that. You would think that with several posters, one of them would keep it going, or figure out a way to make a buck off of it.
Regis,
Thanks for posting the show interview I did with Ted last night. I hope everyone enjoys it.
Matt
With collapse and selloff of Citibank
how long will Citi be on the Stadium?
and with all these super companies tanking
who will be the next sponsor of our new stadium,
“the royal bank of Dubai at Willets Pt?”
Citibank has a few minor league stadiums as well. I would think those would go first.
