Howard Megdal at The New York Observer gives his reasons for why Pedro Martinez and the Mets need to part ways, writing: “In 2008, he pitched to a 5.61 ERA, or nearly twice his career mark of 2.91. Coming into 2008, he’d struck out almost exactly one batter per inning as a Met; that rate dropped to 7.18 [per 9 innings].”

SNY’s Ted Berg says there is no need to rush into signing a closer in his latest edition of Wireless Calling.

Wondering what Eric Valent has been up to? We Should Be GM’s interviews the former Met.

…i wasn’t wondering either…

At Page Six, they describe David Wright’s recent ‘cougar’ attack.

Eric Simon at Amazin’ Avenue continues his list of top 50 Mets with Tommie Agee, noting: “Agee turned in three excellent seasons for the Mets. He was terrific in the 1969 NLCS and owned Game 3 of the World Series; his miraculous diving catch in the latter left an indelible imprint on a generation of Mets fans.”

…what about the home run spot at the late shea stadium…the concrete slab is actually up for sale

All kidding aside – the Eric Valent interview was awesome.

I didn’t even know the site it was on is a Phillies and Pirates baseball blog.

They show baseball cards of Eric while a Phillie.

When asked his best memory, of course it was hitting for the cycle with Mets.

It has a lot of good baseball info.

      Def read it.

Indians, Mets, and Yankees are among other teams to have shown interest in Hudson, who is said to be seeking $50 million over five years

since Niese and co are not gonna be ready, i really can’t see who would be a better 5th starter than Pedro (that costs less in prospects and dollars)

sure he’s not the same as he was 3 years ago but he’s alot better than what he was last year plus he the intagibles that go along with him makes him worth the while even if a pitcher can give better numbers

God I wish there was some real news… anything… even guys signing with other teams. And sorry dempster doesn’t count.

  9. CaseStreet says:

I’d kill for a Sheets signing and Vasquez trade but wouldn’t mind if Pedro got signed to be our #5.

That would mean the org is invested in giving Niese time to develop in AAA. We all love seeing our buds bloom (see Big Pelf).

Plus, that’d mean we could spend money elsewhere. (Hello SP, LF, 2B, C)

Pedro, like El Duque and Alou, should be offering the Mets to play for meal money next season, but even then, it’d be wouldn’t be worth it. The constant reliance on these overpaid AARP cripples has resulted in stretching the organization beyond their limits in their annual scraping the bottom of the barrel searches for intra-season depth. Be grateful these guys are finally off the books and out of the organization’s rehab facilities.

I’d love to see Beltran and Heilman traded for Dustin Pedroia and Jacoby Ellsberry. Although Pedroia winning mvp probably crushes that possibility. It would give the Redsox solid protection for Ortiz which he clearly misses less Manny in Boston. Also it would free up money for the mets to spend on KROD, Street, Corrdero. I like what everyones saying a bout the mets pen. Also does anyone know why Murphy wont be the starting secondbasemen next year? I feel like him at second would be a solid move and sign a corner outfielder.
