Partial seasons? In 2007 he play 144 games with 470 ab and hit 272. He also set his career high in homers with 15 and career high in rbis with 70.That's a full season, not a partial one.And in that season he was average, below average by some standards.Having a break out half a year at 30 does absolutely nothing to show me he's more then a average player he has shown us to be over his career.Having some speed and above average arm doesn't make you an above average player.Playing good defense is a plus, but it doesn't negate the fact that he's not a great hitter.Saying he's better than what the Mets have is true, but saying he's better then what's out there is your opinion alone.I'm sure the Mets could find an outfielder in the same vein or better than Church, if The Mets had to trade him for a pitcher of note.No way a semi-young,lol, average corner outfielder should get in the way of bringing in some much needed pitching.

Another one. Lets see a career average based on 5 partial seasons. Thats partial. Seems to me and lots of others that he was showing signs of having a breakout year at the age of 30. Thats just with the bat. He is a well above average rightfielder, with good speed and an above average arm. But no, you're with the other guys who think good outfielders grow on trees. Guess what, he's better then what we have and whats out there right now. This team cant even find a left fielder and some are hoping that a couple of infielders can handle it again, of course with the help of a one dimensional outfielder (taking up space on the roster) to come out and play defense for an inning or two at the end of a game. But you're right, lets get rid of our semi-young rightfielder for another pitching project and bring in the usual over-the-hill, injury plagued, defensively challenged outfielder that you all must seem to love.

Not to mention lets say you do that deal. Tex cost 20 million, Sonnanstine 500,000. That's 20.5 million for 2009. You don't do that deal and keep Delgado and sign Garland then you end up with 22.5 million for next season and a hole at 1B in 2010.

Exactly why not trade Delgado and 4 million (what we would have paid in the buyout anyway) for Sonnanstine? I really think the Rays would do it. Delgado would replace Floyd as their old DH and instantly they would be a better offensive team. All at the price of a strength in #4-5 starters.

Exactly, if you could get a decent 2B or 5th starter for Delgado it's a win win. You fill the 1B slot permantly and fill another spot. Thus any talk of Tex fills 2 spots not just one.

the real,

Amen to that, i've been lobbying for k-rod and tex since we missed the playoffs, i just plain and simple don't like delgado in this team, him and pedro i want no part of anymore.. they're view as the veterans but i feel their course has ru nwith this team, trade delgado get rid of castillo and sign k-rod and tex.. delgado might even bring a starting pitcher you never know, he's a bargain for some teams at 12 millions, omar has a man crush for some players and delgado is one of them, i wanna see wright be the leader w/o someone else be the veteran leader, let him and jose run this team, i'm sure we'll be fine wt manuel as coach.. please omar, stop being a moron and do what's right for this team not what u think is right for your friends (i.e castillo, alou, pedro, duque)

vazquez + a C would be nice. I didn't really mean trade our C's for another C, just that in the various deals going down, a C prospect would be nice to snag.

Feliciano and/or Schoe are getting traded too. And who knows who else! I expect at least Carp from the minors.

Teix while expensive (and of course overpriced, but aren't they all?) would help in many ways. If nothing else, it removes a major hole to fill next off season, and makes the team better in 2009 (I don't expect much out of Delgado, and while his overall numbers may be OK, he will be very streaky).

That, and you can move Delgado for some prospects, and will also free up some of the backlog of 1B prospects in the system to be used in other deals.

With Teix, I have no problem using Murphy/tatis/evans as the LF platoon. Solid production from the 6/7 hole.
