Yankees are talking about Sabathia, Lowe, Burnett., Manny, Teixeira. We are talking about discount rack garbage like Garland, Wolf, Ivan Rodriguez, and an “economic”-friendly closer instead of K-Rod, perhaps. The Mets shop at the Mom and Pop store while the Yankees shop at Tiffany’s- some things never change.

You want to outbid someone for a 31 year old declining shortstop coming off a major injury who would have to change positions, so we can give him a huge long-term contract?

I guess there are discrepancies as to whether this is true, but if true, it’s pretty disappointing/ridiculous that the Mets perhaps did not make a strong a bid as the money starved A’s. I guess the economy is really having a big effect on Freddie…Maybe we should set up a fund for him where we can all donate money. I guess I’d be in for $10 or $20…anyone else?

OK, good points, I agree that Manny would be our best hitter, and I actually was arguing for him a few weeks ago, but I have accepted that we are just not going to get him.

And I do like Wright 3rd and Beltran 4th…I think Beltran is more of a cla*sic cleanup hitter and Wright a cla*sic #3 hitter…..

the Mets need top notch SP, so pay what they have to for Lowe in dollars not years and sign K-Rod (he’s getting more than 3 years)

next sign Penny as the 4th starter and that gives the Mets the best rotation in baseball.

trade Heilman, Evans and Muniz or someone like that and get Street.

sign a gamer like Eckstein, Grudzielanek, Loretta to split time with Castillo as we’re not gonna be able to move him.

sign Daryle Ward as a pinch hitter to replace Marlon Anderson.

I think it only adds balance to your lineup with Wright #5. You can make the argument that Beltran should be 5 instead, but you could also make the argument that Beltran is a better natural run producer than Wright.

You don’t platoon second base, mainly because right now, you don’t have anyone to platoon him with, which is another argument against releasing him. Also, since he’s a switch hitter, it’s silly. Let’s not go down the Murphy road right now, we don’t know if that would work or not. I’d accept batting him eight, or second, 7th is dumb. Castillo is far down on the list of priorities, and of all the holes, (Finding a 5th starter in the minors, the bullpen suddenly getting good..) I’d say Castillo playing better at 2B than ’08 is the best bet of all of them.
