i agree..i mean i think he missed 4 or 5 starts last year? I'd be willing to deal with a few missed starts if he puts up the numbers he's capable of putting up. Plus like everyone has said, Niese could fill in for spot starts if need be.

Santana
Sheets
Pelf
Maine
Garland?

Sounds decent enough to me and not ridiculously expensive

Right cause offense was our most glaring weakness, not the crap bullpen or lack of innings from starters.

Trex,

Yeah that is the issue that my plan would run into. I have heard the Mets name all over Beimel. Not sure that means they will sign him.

If it really comes down to a matter of 10 million i would get annoyed as a fan. The only reasonable excuse would be if that pushes the Mets over the Luxury Tax level, which would make that 10 mil something like 35 mil.

The only offensive changes I really want is Murphy starting all season baring injury. Delgado moved and Castillo moved. I don't really want hudson, Dye, or any other rumored person. I definitely don't want Milton Bradley who I've heard. Carlos Lee would be a much welcomed addition, Murphy can then play first cause Delgado would have to be moved most likely or play 2nd. I don't want castillo at 2nd for one inning.

I see your point but that depends on how he pitches. The Mets fans accepted El Duque just fine when he was on the field and winning games.

Psychologically speaking, I'd think it would be more Pettite himself that would have a hard time accepting the Mets.

No one is saying that we are going to get him for nothing, but I think we have the prospects to get him. Plus his trade value is probably a little less than you think because of his contract. Lee would be the Mets' best hitter so you would have to be willing to give up significant talent to get him (an Fmart/Niese package for example).

Guys come on. I know its a risk but lets go for the gusto here. Sign Ben Sheets and Garland. If ben sheets breaks down Garland will crunch up a lot of innings. Our goal should be to win the world series, and Sheets does that. If sheets gets hurt I could live with that because the organization wanted to make impact. He can't cost that much, no one is talking about him.

I don't think it matters if we say we need a #2 or #5. What matters is that the pitcher will be consistent and healthy.

A huge problem last year was that we had Pelf go from a #6 to a #4 because we had to replace Duque and Pedro.

Hopefully, this year, we will have 5 starters who can go out there and pitch 200 innings.
