amBuzz: Peavy, Furcal, Moyer, A.J. CC and Tek

The Padres may have a third team to help facilitate a trade that could eventually send Jake Peavy to the Cubs, reports Yahoo!.

…just so long as jake doesn’t go to the Braves, gentlemen

The A’s are at the top of the list for Rafael Furcal, writes the Contra Costa Times, while SI.com says the Giants, Cubs, Dodgers, Braves, and a mystery team also remain involved.

Speaking of the A’s, they and other teams have asked the Nationals for Nick Johnson’s medical records, suggesting he could be traded, reports FoxSports.com.

lots of walks and lots of injuries, sounds like the A’s to me

Though it hasn’t happened yet, the Phillies are still expected to re-sign free-agent LHP Jamie Moyer, writes MLB.com.

The Blue Jays still feel there is a chance they will re-sign free-agent RHP A.J. Burnett, according to ESPN.com, even though they’ll have less to spend, as the Toronto Sun explains.

The Red Sox plan to offer salary arbitration to Jason Varitek, according to the Boston Herald.

…meaning he will cost two draft picks, if he signs with a new team

Lastly, the Yankees are skeptical of the Angels’ interest in free-agent RHP CC Sabathia, writes Jon Heyman at SI.com.

the idea being, the Angels are a) bidding up the price on the Yankees, while b) trying to spook Mark Teixeira in to re-signing, since reports continue suggest they can only afford one of the two

It’s really not any better for the Mets if Peavy ends up on the Cubs.

A rotation that starts with Zambrano, Harden, Peavy, and Dempster is going to be very difficult for any other NL team to get past.

We’ll all be sitting around hoping the Cubbies remain cursed.

AS A METS’ FAN, IF PEAVY WON’T DO NY, I DON’T WANT HIM IN THE DIV., AS A NATIVE NYer, I’D HOPE “THE INTERN”(CASHEN) WOULD WAKE UP & HEDGE HIS CC BETS BY DEALING HUGHES, MELKY TO PODS SINCE HUGFHES T BEST WILL DEVELOP INTO WHAT PEAVY ALREADY IS. ACQUIRING CC FOR A ROTATION THAT HAS TO SLOT BOTH HUGHES & KENNEDY IS LIKE PUTTING NEW TIRES OR WINDSHEILD WIPERS ON A BEATER & EXPECTING BETTER PERFORMANCE. THEY’RE ALREADY COUNTING ON MORE BOUNCEBACKS THAN A HANDBALL TOURNEMENT.

Hughes will become what Peavy is? LMAO! That brings back memories of last year when some idiot Yankees fan said “Hughes will be better than Santana”, explaining why The Yanks didn’t trade Hughes for Santana.

I wonder if Hughes fastball has dropped more velocity over the summer. At the rates Hughes is going he’ll be throwing like Barry Zito by the times he’s 25.

You mean, Cashman, right? Cashen and Cashman are two very different things.

        • METS62FAN says:

          FYI, CAPSLOCK=DISABILITY ACCOMODATION

MY MISTAKE, AS A MET LIFER, MY ADDLED MIND THINKS FRANKCASHEN OVER BRIAN CASHMAN; BUT IT WOULD TAKE A MORE ADLED MIND TO MISTAKE ANY ‘INTERN’ REFERENCE FOR ANY OTHER THAN CASHMAN. THE LIFER YANK EXEC, WITH ONLY INTERNAL EXPERIENCE IN YANKEE BUBBLE FROM INTERN TO GM BEFORE ABNYONE COULD BLINK! HE’S THE ANTI-RICKEY, FOR CERTAIN.
ALSO NEED A CORRECTION FOR ANGRY WHO MISSED THE LONE ‘T’ WHICH WAS A TYPO THAT SHOULD HAVE BEEN THE WORD AT THUS THEC ZSENTENCE READS THAT HUGHES, “AT” BEST WILL DEVELOP INTO WHAT PEAVY ALREADY IS.
U GUYS REMINFD ME TOO MUCH OF MY FIRST WIFE, SO ANALLY RETENTIVE SHE TOOK THAT DEATH THING SERIOUSLY, (LMAO)

How many times are you going to make the mistake that signing a player costs 2 draft picks?

    • whynot1 says:

Will Varitek cost two draft picks (not that I want him)? I can’t imagine that he’s anything close to a Type A free agent.

      • Coolpapabell says:

If Varitek’s stock isn’t low enough, knowing that you are going to loose draft picks must make him the Citigroup of the free agent market.

Grit and leadership ain’t worth two draft picks. Sorry Boras but your client isn’t worth that much.
