He’s not a “pretty good second baseman.” Omar already nixed that idea. He’s an outfielder or possibly, with work, a first baseman.

There are some of you out there who still don’t get it (see the Giles post).
The Mets need RH Power. They had NONE last year when needed.
Manny fills the bill. And then we would have Tatis off the bench for power as well.
Giles! That is one guy who says he wants to win and vetoes a trade to the red sox and the playoffs. Giles sux big time.
Finally, I am NOT sold on Church and his concussions. Mets need a closer and 2 starters, but they need a right handed power bat! NOW.
The Pedro signing taught e this…that players looked at that signing as a change fromt he old LOSER menatality to a winning one and was a big reason Beltran came over.
Sign manny and Krod, then the other players will follow in kind.

Wow, impressive hypocrisy! First criticize old players, then advocate the soon-to-be 38, probable juicer Giles, and 45-year old walking injury Randy Johnson!

Manny is almost a year and a half younger than Giles, is not in decline, was probably not a juicer, and is infinitely better! And as for clubhouse nonsense, have you ever read about Giles’ antics? He may be one of the most idiotic and childish players in the game.

Street’s command is getting worse at a more rapid pace than Heilman. For all we know this was just a bad year on Heilman’s part. Heilman not only has more trade value than Street but much better stuff.

Dude, have the Pedro and Wagner situtations taught you nothing? Signing old people to incredible contracts isn’t worth it. I don’t have much against old baseball players, but their health is too much of a risk.

Personally, if we are to sign an outfielder, my favorite would be Brian Giles. His OBP is going to rise over the next few years and he won’t be expensive.

Anyways, Garland isn’t a horrible solution to the 4 and 5 SP holes, but really he isn’t the best. He got a big name from being on the WS winning Sox team, and will likely demand quite a few years and $$. HOWEVER, the SP market has gone rather insane. I’d go for Garland if he can take a 3 year, $36 million contract.

For the 5 hole, I’d get Randy Johnson, who wouldn’t be a bad 1 year investment.

Because of his age, his Type A status, and the short-of-cash competition, the deal is going to have at least 4 years. I doubt it will go up to $15 million a year though.

Fuentes, due to his Type B status and the fact that he is basically a second round prize will likely get a lot of money, probably around $39 million a year.
