    Championship. mark it down.

  2. bkfitz says:

This must be the first under-30 catcher the Mets have had in the minor leagues in decades.

  3. Elastic says:

Who is this guy Rivera? :(

  4. therealsince86 says:

Dang Omar did it again. He was supposed to sign JUAN Rivera.

  5. NYMETSFAN718 says:

I think everyone is missing the point. His last name is Rivera, of course Omar will give him a shot!!

    • therealsince86 says:

Ha, Ha, good one. Oh my, that’s funny. Never heard that one before. Oh my goodness. You should join the tour. Let us know the next time you post in 8 months after it’s over.

      • NYMETSFAN718 says:

Hey thereal, its called sarcasm buddy. Relax.

        • therealsince86 says:

Why? That is a lame racist joke that has been used on here 1,000 times.

        • ksuth says:

it’s fun to be sarcastic with an old joke we’ve heard a billion times….i wish i were ‘kewl’ too.

        • NYMETSFAN718 says:

Racist? Are you kidding me?? Its far from Racist?

        • therealsince86 says:

Seriously? How is it FAR from racist? To say that a GM only brings in players because of their race?

        • NYMETSFAN718 says:

          Its not racist at all,

First off its the truth that no one can deny.

And second, im not degrading anyone, talkin low to anyone, or making fun of anyone’s race.

        • Gina says:

I don’t think it’s really racist based on the actual definition of racist, he’s not making any sort of generalization about hispanics.

        • NYMETSFAN718 says:

          Thank You Gina.

        • dominicanboy08 says:

so boston is mostly white because theo epstein is white? you shouldnt care about race, you should only care if the player is good or not.

        • therealsince86 says:

Ok maybe racist is the wrong word. He is however, accusing our GM of being racially bias. How about that one?

As for you comment that you can’t deny it. How about Maine, Church, Schnieder, calling up Murphy, Evans, Pelfrey, Show (like it or not), Smith, Wise……

          It’s just not true.

        • NYMETSFAN718 says:

Look at our starting 9, Chruch and Wright are only non hispanics

        • bigchart333 says:

truth that no one can deny?

Omar brought in Wags, Lo Duca, Conine, and was one stupid Baltimore owner decision away from adding Roy Oswalt…he tried to sign david eckstein but he wanted to play short and a diff contract…he traded for john maine, traded for church AND schneider…u make it seem like he’s NEVER added a white player…come on, smarten up…

those are all just off the top of my head

        • NYMETSFAN718 says:

Tatis, Beltran, Reyes, Castillo, Delgado, Castro, Santana.

        • NYMETSFAN718 says:

He brought in Wags, cause he had to, hence the contract Wags got, everyone you just mentioned lasted 10 minutes on the mets be they were gone. As far as Loduca, Omar rally showed him the door last year huh.

        • NYMETSFAN718 says:

He traded for Estrada, just so Loduca would not have a place on the team.

        • CaseStreet says:

Yeah, he shouldn’t have traded for Santana because of his last name. UR ridiculous.

        • NYMETSFAN718 says:

I WANNA SET THE RECORD STRAIGHT. IM NOT RACIST AGAINST HISPANICS. MY FIANCE IS HISPANIC. IM JUST STATING MY OPINION.

        • CaseStreet says:

I feel sorry for your fiance. It seems like you are the one with the bias.

        • NYMETSFAN718 says:

Its a shame, the reason why its been blogged about so many times, and joked about so many times is because it has substance. Its hard to admit it but its obvious, at least NO ONE can deny it.

        • lol so where were you a few years ago when one of the only hispanic players on the Astros’ roster was Luiz Vizcaino? Did you say that their GM was biased for having mostly White/non hispanic players? Don’t be ridiculous. Race shouldn’t be an issue anymore.

        • NYMETSFAN718 says:

I am not talking about other teams or other GMs. I am talking about Mr. Omar Minaya. NO ONE ELSE!!!

        • kidfromqueens says:

The Mets currently have 15 players of very recent and obvious Latin American descent on the 40 man roster. The Braves have 14. The Marlins have 13. The Nationals have 12. And that’s just a few teams in our division- it’s the same for just about all of baseball. One or two more players on the roster is proof of some sort of huge hiring bias?

        • HitTheSinkerBall says:

Well he did not show LoDuca the door. He traded for the guy first off. Then showed him the door because LoDuca was washed up. Evidence by his numbers last year.

        • Mr. Bananagrabber says:

The fact of the matter is that the players in MLB were about 25% of Latin American descent (at least on Opening Day Rosters in 2005), so the hiring will reflect that.

        • NYMETSFAN718 says:

Right, And Castro and Schnieder were great!!!!!

        • NYMETSFAN718 says:

I would agree with your 25% number, but the MEts are more like 80% hispanic on there roster.

        • therealsince86 says:

It is for someone who is ignorant. I guess we should have never traded for Johan, it tipped us in the wrong direction.

        • therealsince86 says:

NYMETSSOMETHING, can you back up your claim that the Mets roster is 80% hispanic? And even if they were, what the hell would it matter?

        • kidfromqueens says:

Um…15 out of 40 is 37.5%….a little higher than the 25% figure being thrown around here, but just a tad lower than 80%…

        • Hey, if you have a problem with the Mets having too many hispanic players, send the Wilpons a letter :) it is pointless to keep this argument going.

        • NYMETSFAN718 says:

Ollie, Pedro, Johan, Beltran, Tatis, Delgado, Castillo, Castro, Reyes, Reyes, Chavez, Feliciano, Ayala, Sanchez, Burgos, Muniz, Vargas, Cancel,

        • NYMETSFAN718 says:

Im sure i missed a few, since that is coming off the top of my head.

        • NYMETSFAN718 says:

60% of our rotation, 77% of our opening day lineup. Yup, prettty close to 80% to me!!!!!

        • Mr. Bananagrabber says:

I can do the math to figure it’s 37.5%. I was just saying that overall it’s 25%. But, it’s only 5 players that make the difference from the league average of 25% to the 37.5% that we have now. 5 doesn’t constitute a bias of any kind, especially in such a limited sample size.

        • NYMETSFAN718 says:

Theres a reason why the Mets have a LosMets.com

        • Mr. Bananagrabber says:

Because baseball is a popular sport in Latin America?

        • NYMETSFAN718 says:

          Ok im done arguing.

        • NYMETSFAN718 says:

          I proved my point

        • Mr. Bananagrabber says:

If by “proved my point” you mean, made a fool of yourself, then yeah, you did.

        • Yay now we can go back to waiting for the mets to sign K-Rod

        • therealsince86 says:

You’re right you have proved many points on here. LOL.

        • HitTheSinkerBall says:

Wait so just because our roster has more Hispanic players on it then some other rosters, you say our GM (who by the way you don’t even no at all as a person) will give Hispanic players more shots then other races? You judge that on the fact that we have more Hispanic players on our roster then other teams.

So I guess for every Tatis that Omar gave a chance to he did not give a chance to guys like Easley, Marlon Anderson? He trades for Santana I guess because he was Hispanic and not because he is one of the best in baseball. He brings in Beltran I guess not because he is arguably the best CF in baseball but because he is Hispanic. He traded for Delgado when we needed a first baseman only because he was Hispanic.

You sounds stupid because you are saying Omar favors Hispanic players and gives Hispanic players more chances and your coming up with this because the Mets have more Hispanic players on there roster then some teams, and because the Mets have Los Mets which is a great argument to prove your point since I am sure that was Omar idea. Yup not only is Omar our GM but he is head or marketing for the Mets as well.

        • NYMETSFAN718 says:

Everyone wants to mention all the good. But what about all the bad.

          Abrioux Burgos?
          Jorge Julio?
          Moises ALou?
          El Duque?
Ollie? SInce everyone wants him out.

And with Santana, Omar got lucky with him, Santana fell into Omars Lap, Omar did not play any cards right or any of that BS. the yankees and red sox gave up on him.

        • NYMETSFAN718 says:

And Beltran did not even wat to play for the Mets, He wanted to be a yankee. So you cant really give Omar credit for that eirher. He got lucky with Beltran too.

        • HitTheSinkerBall says:

Ollie great trade, the Julio trade brought us Maine
and El Duque was traded stright up for Julio so nothing bad there …. the only bad move you got on your list was the trade for Burgos.

        • NYMETSFAN718 says:

Maine was a throw in by the O’s, Minaya did not even ask for him, or care for him.

        • therealsince86 says:

Right, I mean no other team in the MLB has a site for another language. Especially not the Yankee’s or Dodgers.
It’s just a guy who makes ignorant comments. I should have remembered when he said his fiance was hispanic that this tool has done this before and had to tell us that before. If you have to say that over and over again….. something is wrong.

        • HitTheSinkerBall says:

Yup you are right Omar Hispanic loving lucky GM who gives Hispanics more chances then other races. That must explain why he traded Kaz. Must explain all those non Hispanic players he has been taking in the drafts since he has been our GM.

        • NYMETSFAN718 says:

What have i been saying over and over? I was aksed to prove my point and thats what i have been doing!

        • Mr. Bananagrabber says:

Honestly, if Omar is that lucky, then he should be kept around.

Are you even a Mets fan?

        • NYMETSFAN718 says:

Ive been a Mets fan way before any of you guys knew where Shea stadium was.

        • HitTheSinkerBall says:

Maine was a throw in? Omar did not even want him? lol and you no this how? Did Omar tell you that? Maine is a former 6th round pick not exactly a throw away. But your right that is how the trade went down they said take Julio for Benson and guess what you have to take Maine and Omar said no I want another Hispanic player and the O’s said no TAKE MAINE and Omar said ok fine but just to let you no I don’t want him lol.

        • Mr. Bananagrabber says:

Wow. You’ve shamed me with your unprovable logic.

Obviously your length of time being a fan has given you no insight whatsoever.

        • CaseStreet says:

All baseball teams have a spanish web page.

        • NYMETSFAN718 says:

          :-X

        • HitTheSinkerBall says:

How have you proved your point? You’re proving it because the Mets have more Hispanic players on there team then some other rosters. How does that prove your point that Omar gives Hispanics more chances? Why don’t you prove it by getting player quotes saying that dam Omar did not give me a chance because I am not Hispanic lol.

        • therealsince86 says:

Yup. Marketing idea by MLB not MLMETSB.
Again, I should have noticed the comment about the fiance and left it alone. This is a pointless arguement with this moron. If he dislikes the Mets and their hispanic players then why is he still a fan? He could always move on to another team with less hispanics like the Rsox or something. I mean look at them they traded Ramirez for Bay. I bet they are his hero.

        • NYMETSFAN718 says:

First off thereal, the comment about the fiance was to show that i have no hatred or any dislikes towards hispanics.

second, its my opinion, i stated it and that was that. everyone is entitled to one.

        • NYMETSFAN718 says:

IT WAS MY OPINION, not a statement of Fact.

        • therealsince86 says:

Actually you have tried over and over to suggest that it is fact. Your opinion is labled “In MY opinion Omar just signs guys because they are hispanic. I can’t really prove this but it’s my opinion based on inferences I have made on the Mets roster”

And your fiance comment? The fact that I remember that you have had to use that line before, tells me all I need to know.

        • Mr. Bananagrabber says:

An opinion can still be incorrect, and qualifying an incorrect statement as opinion doesn’t mean you won’t get called on it.

        • therealsince86 says:

Very true sir, very true. And when you state an opinion such as the one presented you should expect to get called on it.

        • NYMETSFAN718 says:

I have never used that comment before, i just used it once to show where i stand.

        • NYMETSFAN718 says:

I did get called on it, and i showed why i think that. Its my opinions, there opinions cuase they cant be correct or incorrect.

        • therealsince86 says:

Not ture. I have seen you use it before. It will be your word against mine but none the less I have a decent track record on here. Does not matter as far as I am concerned, I know where you are coming from and I am moving on and out of the way of it.

        • NYMETSFAN718 says:

I NEVER EVER EVER USED IT BEFORE!!!! GO FETCH IT!!!

        • therealsince86 says:

Just because you present an opinion does not mean it can’t be right or wrong. What a silly concept. Here let me try it.

The sun is square and it revolves around a purple earth. In my opinion. I base this on the fact that when I look out of my square box wearing purple sunglases the sun moves across the sky. LOL.

        • NYMETSFAN718 says:

Bottom line is i did not mean to offend anyone, If i did i opologize.

        • Mr. Bananagrabber says:

Here is your opinion: Omar Minaya only signs/trades for players who are of Latin American descent.

With that said, ONE transaction of his that does otherwise proves that you are incorrect. And, with that said, you’re wrong. Your opinion is wrong.

        • therealsince86 says:

It did not offend me as I am a white guy from the south originally. However, as a Mets fan it bothers me because it is so overused and no matter how many times it is proven incorrect people still jump right back to it every time they sign someone who is not as white as Shawn Green.

        • NYMETSFAN718 says:

But thereal, its what i think, you cant prove me wrong and i cant prove myselg right.

Unlike your sun example which can be proven.

You cant prove your argument, and I can not prove mine. Its just a topic of discussion.

Im sure im not the only one who thinks this way, but if so many people share my opinion, and im not talkin bout 2 or 3, we can both agree that many mnay people share my opinion. Than its worth debating? Dont just shut me up and say im stupid i dont know anything. That means the many many other people who think this are stupid too.

Its a valid opinion is all im saying.

        • therealsince86 says:

But again based on our 40 man roster it can’t be proven either. 15/40 proves our point. What proves yours? The Marlins and Nats have similar numbers. You can’t even begin to prove your point, thus the arguement can’t exist.
Have we ever been to the moon? Can you prove it? Does God exist? Can you prove it. We can play that game all day. However, based on stats and facts the Mets do not favor hispanics over other races.

        • NYMETSFAN718 says:

Which is why its my Opinion, cause it cant be proven, Its what I think to be true. You dont gotta agree with me. SO what, I think its true, Just like if i think we been to the moon, or if there is a god, I cant prove it, neither can you, but you cant take the fact that i beleieve those things to be false

        • NYMETSFAN718 says:

If i told you i think we been to the moon, and you tell me prove it, and i tell you i cant. Doesnt mean my opinion is worhtless. Its just what I THINK to be true.

        • HitTheSinkerBall says:

Yup he gives all those Hispanic players more chances like Easley, Marlon Anderson, Darren Oliver, Jeff Conine, Shawn Green … wait there not Hispanic. What washed up Hispanics has he given a chance to? Valentine, Tatis who else? And don’t go listing guys like El Duque or Alou because there were far from washed up when the Mets got them.

I guess he gives no young non Hispanic players a chance either like Murphy, Evans, Neise, Parnell, Kunz, Maine, Pelf.

Your arguments make no sense since your basing it on the fact that the Mets have more Hispanic players on there rosters then some teams which is the most dumbest thing to base your opinion on. I mean you have no insight what so ever to Omar or the Mets where you can say Omar gives Hispanics more chances then players of other races.

So I guess if at your job you hired more white people we can judge you and say you’re a raciest and give white people more chances since you hire more whites then other races? We will judge you on that instead of the facts like hmm maybe only white people applied or only the white people where qualified. I am just saying you have no insight into Omar to make a comment about him like that.

        • Mr. Bananagrabber says:

I think you’re missing the point, MetsFan718. The point is not to have an opinion – it’s to base your opinion on correct statements. You have to have something that proves your opinion is correct, especially when there are statements which prove otherwise. To be shown that your opinion is wrong, but to continue to believe that you are correct is just willful ignorance.

        • Roach2 says:

wait…didn’t you say over and over again, “i’ve just proven my point”…that right there implies you presented it as fact and that you “proved it”

Now you say it’s something that can’t be proven…make up your mind

You also said that it’s something that no one can deny….well, i’m denying it. Because based on numbers (WHICH IN CASE YOU DIDNT KNOW, ARE FACTS) other teams have very similar hispanic numbers to the mets 40 man roster.

And as far as the Web site goes, every team has one. GET A CLUE, MAN

  6. CaseStreet says:

Wasn’t someone just asking for a 25 year old catcher in AAA? Can that person please ask for Tex, too? Thanks.

    • stickguy says:

      I have. many times.

      • steve333 says:

Its obvious Omar has a bias towards latino players. It isnt racist to point out the obvious.
Not talking about the Santana’s but all the scrubs players and old has beens Omar picks up-almost all latino.
        Really, its quite obvious.

        • NYMETSFAN718 says:

          THANK YOU!!!!!!!!!!!

        • phuck da phills says:

i am as far from racist as you can get, but it is obvious Omar favors latin player. Did I say i have a problem with that?….NO!….but i’m just stating the obvious. If he had to choose between 2 players of equal value, one white and one hispanic, he would choose the hispanic 9 times out of 10. Hey I’ll say it again. There is nothing wrong with this. Its just plain obvious. Hey, my favorite players are Reyes, Beltran, and Johan. And i hope to god we get K_Rod too.
          LETS GO METS!!!

  7. Tidewater says:

Folks… minor league rosters need to be filled too. Not every transaction is designed to help the major league team, let alone deliver a championship.

    • therealsince86 says:

What? You mean we can’t have a AAA filled with young studs at every position or high priced stars that just want to come to the Mets to play AAA? I am shocked.

      • Tidewater says:

By reading reactions to a minor transaction like this one, you’d think people actually did believe that!

  8. dominicanboy08 says:

at least he is 25 years old.

  9. zen says:

    mission accomplished.

    part deux.

  10. KickedintheMetsiclesAgain says:

By the way, whats going on with Francisco Pena?

Any word on how he is progressing?

  11. HitTheSinkerBall says:

Sweet we locked Rene Rivera up to the minor league contract lol. Anyone no anthing about this guy as far as was he at all a decent prospect?

  12. losmets57 says:

Well, at least we’re starting to sign people. Can’t wait until that since K-Rod instead of Rene Rivera, though…

  13. seattle steve says:

excellent signing…. never got a chance since M’s had a lot of $$$ invested in other players

    • therealsince86 says:

Agreed, his minor league numbers are not that bad and he had a good first call up then struggled the following year.

  14. Kalihan42 says:

hmmmmm….are we bringing in another catcher so that we can trade Castro or Schnieder????

  15. HitTheSinkerBall says:

Maybe K-Rod wants Rene Rivera to be is personal catcher and that was one of the conditions to him signing lol joking of course.

  16. Nate W. says:

Well Gustavo Molina was more fun to say, but its all the same in the end…

  17. SantanaClause says:

Wow you guys need to think of different ways to say the same idea “racist” was said 14… now 15 times in this comment section alone.

  18. SantanaClause says:

and omar should test the philies new gm and see how bad we can rip him off although may not happen. Lidge(white) Victorino (hawaian) Rollins (black) Utley (hurt and white) Howard (black). but who knows if omar has his way Pedro Feliz might be our new utility player. jkjkjkjkjk
