no apple?

starz31 December 2, 2008 at 4:06 pm

thats the first thing you think of? lol

My reaction was “wow..wow…awesome…Shea who?”

Alban December 2, 2008 at 4:17 pm

Actually, my reactions were, in order:

1) Holy crap! That sure is a beautiful sight!
2) Dam*! They sure can put up a stadium pretty quickly.
3) I wonder how long it would take to build one in my back yard?
4) Wait… where’s the apple?

Xavier22 December 2, 2008 at 4:18 pm

F the apple

Alban December 2, 2008 at 4:25 pm

For a site that talks about the apple all the time, I figured it was worth asking the question.

But the thread below about the bullpen truly is the more interesting one to follow. Is citifield a place where people can throw batteries at the opposing team’s bullpen? I need to know!

DerangedHermit December 2, 2008 at 4:53 pm

Better yet, can we throw batteries at our own bullpen? I need to know, if Aaron Heilman should remain a Met!

:P

rustyjr December 2, 2008 at 6:15 pm

da apple ( old one) WILL BE ENSHRINED WITHIN THE ROTUNDA – I GUESS THATS THE ONLY bone us mets fans will get to our mets past in the new ebbets field

Louis619 December 2, 2008 at 4:50 pm

Matt where is the City Skyline going to be placed?

Shaft313 December 2, 2008 at 4:06 pm

What’s up with the green seats? I figured a stadium solely devoted to the Mets would have some Orange and Blue somewhere. It’s going to look ridiculous when the team is decked out in white uniforms with blue and orange accents and the stadium has green seats and white walls.

mikey_FF December 2, 2008 at 4:07 pm

You’re not being completely serious … are you?

Shaft313 December 2, 2008 at 4:11 pm

Don’t get me wrong, the stadium looks fantastic. I agree with Cerrone that it does look a little like Phillie only with big boy outfield dimensions, but it’s just odd that the team’s colors are nowhere to be found.

mikey_FF December 2, 2008 at 4:15 pm

Of all the things to complain about … the green seats? LOL That was one of the worst things about Shea Stadium … all the different color seats. It looked terrible.

We’ll just have to get used to a state of the art stadium … with one color seats. haha

hjhjhjhjhj December 2, 2008 at 4:32 pm

i agree in that i think they should be mets blue not green…but it does look beautiful…and the stadium isnt finished…there is going to be an apple and the outfield walls are not going to be white…remember they probably put some pading on them and why do that now but rather wait until after the winter months

DAG December 2, 2008 at 5:35 pm

if there are the seats have bodies in them you won’t know what color they are.

DAG December 2, 2008 at 5:35 pm

*if the seats have bodies in them you won’t know what color they are.

starz31 December 2, 2008 at 4:10 pm

who says theres gonna be white walls? thats not gonna be the final color…especially with stadiums requiring a batters-eye.

And the seats don’t look that bad…and you won’t be able to see them when every one of them is filled!!

janss36 December 2, 2008 at 4:20 pm

The fences are going to be blue… Those are the concrete walls and they have not been touched yet.

Snort-It-Like-Keith December 2, 2008 at 4:47 pm

There not padding the walls?

janss36 December 2, 2008 at 4:49 pm

Of course they are.

Xavier22 December 2, 2008 at 4:11 pm

It’s to re-create the look of the olde tyme stadiums that had wooden green seats. All the new stadiums have those.

DjDeF December 2, 2008 at 4:23 pm

Lets be honest the orange seats were incredibly tacky looking. Remember we do not want to blind the pilots flying over the stadium with too much blue and orange.

CaseStreet December 2, 2008 at 4:47 pm

Thought the green seats were an homage to the Giants

joeinorlando December 2, 2008 at 4:07 pm

Looks Amazin

Gasface77 December 2, 2008 at 4:08 pm

The first thing I think of is where the hell is the “foul territory?” It looks like the rail is right up against the foul line all the way down!

starz31 December 2, 2008 at 4:12 pm

Any news where the away-team bullpen will be? Just like with the Phillies, I can see that being a joy for opposing teams dealing with our fans.

starz31 December 2, 2008 at 4:14 pm

judging by the 3rd pic, looks like one pen will be right next to some seats.

And hopefully its the away team’s bullpen that has to deal with fans, not our own, for we all know how that could turn out.

janss36 December 2, 2008 at 4:21 pm

The home and visitor bullpen will be in the right CF well back to back…

Located near the bridge in right center.

Snort-It-Like-Keith December 2, 2008 at 4:48 pm

lol I don’t think they get a bullpen

can_of_corn December 2, 2008 at 4:13 pm

The writing on top of the scoreboard might be what reminded Matt of CBP — heck, I think it might even say “Phillies.”

What the hell?

CitizenSnips December 2, 2008 at 4:15 pm

Is that…is that leg room?!

stickguy December 2, 2008 at 4:17 pm

cant wait to go to a game. As-suming I( can afford tickets by then…

and yeh, I hope that wasn’t an optical illusion, but it looked like enough room to put your feet, and even have soneone get by without stepping in your lap!

janss36 December 2, 2008 at 4:21 pm

Promenade Reserve IF seats for most games will be 15, 20 and 25 bucks…

And yes, us ST holders have done the math.

Elastic December 2, 2008 at 4:24 pm

Most importantly, will sauerkraut be served on all levels?

starz31 December 2, 2008 at 4:30 pm

Hey Matt, instead of having metsblog night out in a sportsbar, why don’t you pull some strings and get it in a luxury box?

I can dream, can’t I?

tejawe December 2, 2008 at 4:30 pm

does anyone know why they designed it with those jagged outfield dimensions? personally i don’t see much “character” in having a couple spots that jut out or in. i’d much prefer a smooth, symmetrical wall.

janss36 December 2, 2008 at 4:35 pm

No new ballparks have symmetry… Every place has quirks.

peterrod December 2, 2008 at 4:33 pm

Matt great pics.
We are begging for hi-res pics at baseball-fever.
Seats at citi are hunter green.
Seats are green and seat hand bars are blue.
Depending on the sun the seats can be green or blue
Outfield walls will be mets blue
In terms of foul territory its similar to CBP in philly.

Louis619 December 2, 2008 at 4:48 pm

Will Shea be down by Opening day? Doesn’t look like it…

metsblow4show December 2, 2008 at 4:52 pm

I heard the only diference between CBP and the Citi is that the Citi has a disco ball and dance floor at shortstop sponsored by French’s Mustard and that the First Aid Station has the new international sign for choking ( New York Muts emblem ) painted on it.

SweepTheLeg December 2, 2008 at 5:23 pm

I think the stadium looks great.. i was upset about the seats being green but your right there “should be” no empty seats to see..I think the thing that upsets me is the fact that the dugouts are paints GREEN i mean comon lets get some mets blue in there somewhere..thats will look stupid mets in their white and blue uniforms with a green dugout..it wont even look like a METS STADIUM

PelfreyCyYoung09 December 2, 2008 at 5:44 pm

Wow, i am excited about Citi Field :D the inside looks as nice as the outside.

PelfreyCyYoung09 December 2, 2008 at 5:45 pm

at least to me it does…

nyleetch2 December 2, 2008 at 5:58 pm

wow that left field wall is much higher than i expected – could be tough to hit ‘em out to left. Right field i suppose depends if those winds matt mentioned really have a significant effect. It looks like the right field line is pretty short at 330 but it quickly falls back into a bit of an alcove with a high wall before shortening up again as it meet the bullpen which really juts out (probably easiest spot for non-foul-pole homeruns?) but it looks like it gets real deep real quickly after that – possibly reaching 400ft well before dead center which is 408. (i’m going off of the photos and video from matt as well as views from the mets.com interactive seating chart)

Reyes es el Rey December 2, 2008 at 6:34 pm

Oh, wow weird corners in the outfield: HOW QUIRKY!!!

Shea was a dump but at least it was unique.

tonym December 3, 2008 at 11:13 am

It looks awesome, Shea wasa dump, the apple was ridiculous, and those orange setas were absolutely horrible.

Viva Citi!
