When is Shea going to be torn down already and replaced with a parking lot?

Good-bye old friend!

Oh no! If the gov’t or some people who demand that the Citi deal be broken, where will the Mets play?

I mean, the Citi money has gone to build Citi Field, right?

anditsouttahere December 2, 2008 at 4:54 pm

no they’ll play at the stadium that was just built next to shea. except it wont be called citi field. if anything does happen itll be mets park (like nationals park) until sum1 else buys the naming rights. citi didnt pay for construction, just for their name to be on the front.

I mean, some have argued that since taxpayers gave money to Citi they somehow also now own the Mets. I was being sarcastic in pointing out how ridiculous that argument is.

how is it coming down? i heard they couldn’t implode it, but every other stadium thats been taken down in recent years gets blown to smitherines. i hope they use dynomite.

new york state law says they cant implode it so itll be a long pocess with a wrecking ball

As they did in St. Louis. I actually have a cool picture of it being partially destroyed taken from inside the arch.

I was wondering why they didn’t keep the pitching mound and rubber and make it a small park once its a parking lot.

PelfreyCyYoung09 December 2, 2008 at 6:06 pm

that would have been really cool to see :)

Bye-Bye Shea…the Mets were 2-2 in the 4 games i went to :(

I believe that’s actually not that far off the plan — they’re going to use the original home-plate spot as home plate for the annual wheelchair softball tournament they hold in the parking lot.

damn that hurts to watch – kinda like my childhood is being demolished
