News: MLB All Star Game in 2013
By Matthew Cerrone - Dec 3, 2008 9:30 am

According to Ken Davidoff, at his blog for Newsday, “It’s all but official that the Mets will host the 2013 All-Star Game.”

…this is almost inconceivable to me, in that, as a Mets fan, i just have no idea what it will be like to see Citi Field, home of the Mets, paid so much attention…i look forward to it

Also on his blog, Davidoff writes about his day at Citi Field and his thoughts on CC Sabathia, while he also breaks down the Javier Vazquez-to-Atlanta deal.

Let’s hope Willets Point is developed into a sprawling baseball village, not the run down auto shops wasting away there now…

    • taestee says:

one can only dream. but i dont think its gonna happen in 4 years time. and even if it does, the stink of low-tide at flushing bay will remind us all of what used to be.

    • QnsNative1718 says:

I pray for your car if you somehow wind up driving btwn 126th & 127th street. Youd think you were in a war zone.

    • I just want one place–just one–where I can drink a few beers outside of the stadium before first pitch.

      • stickguy says:

You can. It’s called the parking lot. Just remember to pour it into a solid colored cup in the trunk!

    • Steviefan84 says:

I’ve been around Willets Point many times and it smells and looks like you just entered a landfill. Since I am around that around alot, it would be nice not to see 6 – 7 autobodys with smashed up cars, big mud puddles and places that look deserted.

  2. steadyeddie says:

Yes, my friend, 1964 is a long time ago! I’m old and I was just a kid. We thought Shea was the cat’s meow back then; I’m sad and excited for the new digs.
    Let’s Go Mets!

  3. CaseStreet says:

    Best part of the story:

“David Wright, Daniel Murphy and Nick Evans took batting practice at the ballpark shortly after the season ended, and Wilpon said the righty-hitting Wright and Evans expressed satisfaction. Evans hit one halfway into the second deck in leftfield, and Wright crushed one to straightaway center. I couldn’t confirm the rumor that Aaron Heilman threw the batting practice.”

    • alex242 says:

      LMAO!!!!

      good one case

    • Awesome. I’d like to see even more of Wright/Beltran taking a mentor’s role with Murphy and Evans.

    • starz31 says:

Yea that was my favorite part too…I like how they included Evans and Murphy, a nice sign for things to come (if healthy).

Omar’s been saying Evans is more of a power-hitter than we’ve seen…so who knows.

Hopefully Fmart gets a chance to fall in love with the RF over-hang.

  4. Maybe Fernando Martinez will participate in the derby.

  5. alex242 says:

is anybody upset that vasquez went to atlanta? specially for JO-JO REYES!!!!

  6. alex242 says:

    we couldn’t match jo-jo reyes????

    • KingWright says:

We can do better than Vasquez. Braves need whatever they can get, their pitching is awful.

      • Snort-It-Like-Keith says:

Yea, I am sure that means they are not in on Peavy anymore. I think Peavy will end up a Cub.

    • therealsince86 says:

Yes, we could have with Jon Niese. I am not sure Niese and Evans was a good deal.

    • SPINK3 says:

Jo-Jo Reyes wasnt in the deal..it was flowers, lillibridge, and 2 other young guys forgot there names. And just so you know, we couldnt come close to matching that without giving up a guy like parnell/kunz and a couple other pieces

  7. CaseStreet says:

Awesome, hopefully I’ll be able to afford tickets by then.

  8. oleosmirf says:

do you guys realize that Vasquez has an era over 10 in the postseason and he couldnt even get out of the 5th inning in his final 3 starts of the season and 1 post season start for the ChiSox.

imagine what he would do in NY, o wait yea the Yankees tried that before, let me tell you it didnt work to well

    • dave27 says:

      Thank you.

In Atlanta, they won’t need to worry about his postseason numbers. All Vasquez does is give Gammons and Stark someone to drool over in Spring training in place of Hampton.

  9. Alban says:

2013. Will that be enough time for Citigroup to recover?

All-Star attention is great… unless they’re going to calling it Taxpayer-Field for the entire event.

  10. alex242 says:

it can also means that we can have 5 starting players in the all star game:

    1B: TEIXEIRA
    SS: #7
    3B: D. wright
    CF: C. Beltran
    SP: Johan Santana

    maybe #9: FERNANDO MARTINEZ!!

  11. Andrew says:

That’s only if the world doesn’t end in 2012!

  12. 50dollarsforabrick says:

Does anyone know where the Allstar games prior to that will be held? What do you want to bet they will hold one at the new yankee stadium before citi. Can we now not ever hear about the ghosts and the hallowed ground of that dump! It’s gone finished.

    • ravi3 says:

If only…I’m sure that half of the broadcast of the 2013 all-star game will involve the commentators drooling over the new Yankee Stadium, without giving Citi its due.

As for them getting an AS game, it won’t happen before the Mets, as the informal agreement with Selig involved the Yankees closing out Yankee Stadium with an all-star game, followed by the Mets hosting one at Citifield. You can bet that by 2020, the new Yankee Stadium will host an AS game

    • dave27 says:

      2009 St. Louis – confirmed
      2010 Anahiem – confirmed
      2011 Arizona
      2012 Kansas City
      2013 Mets

  13. reyesnwright says:

    2009- Busch
    2010- Angel Stadium
Don’t know any after that but the Yankees won’t get another one for a while.

  14. bigchart333 says:

awesome..2013…however, in typical mets fashion, too bad the world is gonna end on 12/21/2012

    • 50dollarsforabrick says:

ok I’m game why the 21st?

      • bigchart333 says:

lol well it’s not OFFICIAL or anything, but it is the end of the mayan calendar, the most accurate monitor of time in recorded history….

however, on that date, our solar system will shift from just above rotation of the milky way galaxy to below…when it does that, all the planets will be aligned in the perfect barycenter of each planet in regards to the sun…meaning that the gravitaional pull each planet gets from the sun to keep its revolution will be at its greatest…this is supposed to create a series of solar flares like we’ve never seen, which are essentially laser beams shot from the sun, due to the planetary pull…
its actually some pretty wild stuff….scary too
theres a lot more to it, if u google mayan end of the world, or go to this site
        viewzone “dot” come/end of time

  15. dave27 says:

Anyone catch in this column that the Yankees got Joba AND Kennedy with comp picks from Tom freaking Gordon?!

I guess we should be happy if you project those guys on the Phillies instead…all full circle since the Phillies signed Gordon to replace Wagner.

  16. Elastic says:

I hope by 2013, they will be serving sauerkraut on all levels of the ballpark.

  17. iamatwork says:

I can see it… the NL bullpen falls apart and the AL wins.. again.

  18. Mingo says:

    MATT,
Don’t use a SHOE as the artwork for this story.
It reminds me too much of the BRAVES.

  19. mrosey says:

HAHAHA. We beat the Phillies to the All Star Game and they’ve had a “new” ballpark for years.

    • efaulk03 says:

Seriously…. they just won the WS… Do you think they give a crap about hosting an All-star game. I’d take a WS any day over hosting a 2-day event that realistically is meaningless.
