News: Reds and Sox agree on Dye Deal, or Not
By Matthew Cerrone - Dec 7, 2008 8:56 pm

The White Sox have agreed to trade OF Jermaine Dye to the Reds for RHP Homer Bailey, reports the Dayton Daily News.

According to the report, citing a major-league source, ‘The deal is done and will be announced this week.’

…from what i recall, the White Sox were most interested in Jon Niese and Robert Parnell from the Mets, though i am not sure if any combination would have been able to get dye to Queens…

Update, 10:43 pm:

In a post to the Chicago Tribune, Mark Gonzales says a source with knowledge of these talks rejected the above report from the Dayton Daily News, noting, “The source added that the Sox were seeking more prospects besides Bailey.”

Update, 10:56 pm:

“Reds GM Walt Jocketty categorically denied a report from the Dayton Daily News that Bailey was traded for Dye,” reports MLB.com.

“Wrong.  It’s not even close,” Jocketty told reporters.  “We haven’t had any discussions with the White Sox since before Thanksgiving.”

    Working OT Matt?

    • Metfreak says:

If this is true then I am alittle happy that the Mets won’t be able to trade some blue chips for him he might of helped the Mets but it would be only for 1 yr I would rather see who we can sign before a trade

  2. Gina says:

The Reds just want to fail.

  3. TheWizard7 says:

I’d rather sign Burrell for what Dye makes and keep Niese and Parnell, so I am happy that he wound up with Cincy..

  4. NYCESQ says:

I was wondering when this trade was going to happen.

On the bright side, at least we do not have to continue hearing the Dye to Mets rumors anymore.

  5. joeinorlando says:

sign Dunn …. play OF next year and slide him over to 1b when Delgado is gone after next year

  6. rockets212 says:

I saw Red then Sox right next to it and i thought it was Dye going to the red sox and that would have been a shocker

  7. Rome1224 says:

I wanted Dye but we can get Dunn instead and hopefully CC. Some people say he is to fat but he is just “Husky”. Well he is big but I would sign him anyway. We can afford it just create PSL’s. I wonder why the Mets have not tried to sell PSL’s. It’s a great way to get more money to sign free agents. People will pay for them because its NY and people have money to burn even in a bad economy. The corporations buy most of these seats anyway let them pay for CC.

    • CaseStreet says:

Are you crazy? PSL’s? Money to burn? People are getting laid off all over the place in NY. And if companies aren’t laying people off they’re def not giving bonuses or raises. Corporations don’t buy most of these seats anyway.

    • joeinorlando says:

not gonna sign CC… thats a given… but I would take Lowe…. he would be a great #2… I dont think we have the prospects to get a #2 in a trade…. I would take a shot at 4yrs at 60mm … the only downside to this is the rightside of our infield

  8. Metfreak says:

How come I don’t see anything about this trade on any other sports web sites?

  9. KickedintheMetsiclesAgain says:

Have you not seen what the Mets are asking for Ticket prices?

I am not sure what Field is going for but Loge is going for roughly $175 per seat per game (in first two rows) and roughly $160 a game for any other Loge seat.

That is some serios coin for Loge. That means most Joe-Mets fans will be sitting in the upper decks.

PSLs would have crushed people. I dont think they have sold out Loge yet. Can you afford plunking down $12,000 to $14,000 for a single Loge seat?

  10. joeinorlando says:

infront of Murphy and Tatis ….

  11. jayhook says:

Maybe the Tigers will take Castillo’s bad contract for Dontrelle Willis?
We can always turn him into an outfielder a la Rick Ankiel.

  12. Bruce Boisclair says:

Why would the Reds do this? Trade one of your best young prospects for an aging outfielder?

  13. oleosmirf says:

Dye is not worth Niese. would have done it straight up for Parnell though…

  14. Metfreak says:

I would love that if we can trade slappy for Willis

  15. Hernandez_1B says:

I’m not sure if my computer is bugging out or what but what’s with the new way the comments are being displayed. Not sure if I like it

  16. kidfromqueens says:

If this is true, it’s a bizarrely terrible trade for the Reds. Bailey is way too young to give up on- he started last season as the eighth youngest player in AAA. Any “disappointment” in him is just due to someone else’s over-hyping. And if the Reds think that Dye is a piece that’s going to put them over the hump next season, they’re just fooling themselves- they’ve got a long way to go before that happens.

  17. joeinorlando says:

same here …. hey just reported that Omar is making an offer to K Rod tonight

  18. biomarco5 says:

MILTON BRADLEY! why are we not talking about this guy in LF. Switch Hitter, great stats as a RH. I’d like to know why he’s never attached to the Mets seems like a good fit.

  19. joeinorlando says:

    opps Heyman

  20. Metfreak says:

Whats up with this new format?

  21. The_Fonz says:

I hope this is true, because I don’t want Dye on the mets and this way, we know that won’t happen then.

I think i’m in the minority, but If you can get him cheap, Bobby Abreu wouldn’t be too bad.

  22. Number57 says:

I like the new comment layout, and I’m glad Dye is elsewhere. Outfielders are a dime a dozen.

  23. metsflip says:

I HATE the new comment layout… Anyway this is a weird trade to me..

  24. MeetTheMets says:

Did anyone get a txt msg about this news?

I signed up (I think twice accidentally), but haven’t gotten any msgs yet. Just wondering…

  25. The_Fonz says:

i like the format, btw, i think its neater then it was previously

  26. dominicanboy08 says:

where is the reply option in this new layout?

  27. Hazmet says:

Joe in O, thanks for the good news. Hopefully, Omar’s on the move. I didn’t expect O to be able to do much since it was in none of the top talents interest to sign before these meetings but the waiting’s been killing me. My wish list is K-Rod, Street, (for Heilman & Feliciano) and yes Manny though it won’t happen. We need another right handed bat just to give D. Wright another stick from his side of the plate to see pitches.

  28. Rome1224 says:

There are plenty of rich people and companies to buy PSL’s and seats. As a Joe Six pack I have conceided that seats at the games are for the rich and companies. And last time I went to Shea a lot of great seats on the three main levels were bought by some company. You could see the name of the company on the railing. Anyway the Mets sold all their Luxury Sweets. Who bought those? Companies or regular people? So, gimmie a break. Its time us Joe Six Packs give up the dream of having season tickets and bleed these rich companies and people dry so we can get a super team to win year after year like the team from the Bronx.

  29. CaseStreet says:

Hate the new format. I like to have separate threads to discuss with others.

  30. metscraze says:

this Dye trade rumor seems to be false.

  31. BBmetsfreak36 says:

I like Dye. But I like Eric Byrnes more considering price, desidered production, and type of guy fit for the team.

  32. Angryredmenace says:

To answer Bruce Boisclair question, there are three reasons The Reds would do this. Walt’s(There GM) is a moron. The organization has Edison Volquez(26) & Johnny Cueto(23) in the majors, and Daryl Thompson & Ramon Ramirez(Both Thompson & Ramirez are ranked higher than Homer on there prospects list). And lastly, Homer’s velocity has been dropping year after year.
