Relief Pitcher: K-Rod, then Fuentes, then Wood

According to Jon Heyman at SI.com, the Mets prefer Francisco Rodriguez, followed by Brian Fuentes, then Kerry Wood, then, if all else fails, a Trevor Hoffman-Huston Street combination.

from what i understand, they prefer a K-Rod-Street combination, and feel confident it can happen, though that, of course, depends on Colorado’s asking price

“The goal would be to keep Rodriguez to a three-year deal, with a fourth-year option,” says Heyman.

That said, “The Mets are confident they’ll wind up with either Rodriguez or Fuentes,” writes Ken Davidoff in Newsday.

In a post to ESPN.com, Buster Olney continues to report the Mets will begin doling out offers to closer this week, ‘according to their terms, and not the terms of the agents.’

jeez, i’m getting antsy…make the offer, guys…do it, just do it…

K-Rod/Street combo. Great 1-2 punch. Get it done.

I’m so tired of all this K-Rod or Fuentes talk…the Mets will be making a mistake if they sign Fuentes…he’s a good setup man but not a true closer…K-Rod combined with a Huston Street would be make the Phillies Madsen-Lidge punch look like last years Heilman-Ayala combo…Don’t be stupid Omar

Okay, here’s my contract off to K-Rod(incentives not included):

2009: $11 million
2010: $14 million
2011: $14 million
2012: Player option for $13 million

If I’m not mistaken, which I very well could be, we can almost definitely give K-Rod that 4th year by making it a player option, but still be insured. I think that the insurance goes for 3 years and then it continues if the next year is an option. He gets payed only 11 mil because of the Wags situation. Once we shed that 10 mil we can give K-Rod a raise.

I like Wood better than Fuentes. I understand the injury concern, but Chicago did pretty well with Wood pitching the full year.

exactly especially if we got street as the set up man who can step up if wood gets injured

Krod Street combo is better but more expensive so i would rather have wood who we pay less and for less years and use the extra money for other bullpen arms that are low paying but high upside

I also would prefer Wood. However, i don’t understand why Huston Street can’t be the closer, and Duaner as the set up man.
