Relief Pitcher: Street, and BJ Ryan on the Block

According to Nick Cafardo of the Boston Globe, ‘The Blue Jays would deal B.J. Ryan if overwhelmed by an offer.’

…the buzz from toronto has been that the Jays will trade ryan, but they prefer to move other players, like Lyle Overbay, if they absolutely need to make a deal

Meanwhile, the Rockies are looking to acquire a left-handed set-up man, reports the the Denver Post.

…this would explain why Colorado asked for Pedro Feliciano, in addition to Aaron Heilman, from the Mets in a deal for Huston Street, as Joel Sherman once reported in the New York Posthowever, the Mets declined, preferring to deal heilman and a prospect

According to the Denver report, the Rockies are interested in free-agent LHP Joe Beimel, Alan Embree, Will Ohman, Eddie Guardado and others.

from what i can gather, the Mets are still very much involved in talks with the Rockies for street, in a deal that would include heilman…i believe a deal can be worked out…my guess is the Mets prefer to trade a player like Mike Carp, while the Rockies may be asking for a player like Nick Evans

…that said, based on the above report, such a deal may need to wait until the Rockies can sign or trade for a left-handed set up man, who isn’t named feliciano

…frankly, if i were the Mets, i would just do the heilman-feliciano deal, get street and keep Scott Schoeneweis, who can then return to being a lefty-specialist

would’t it be great if we got a b.j from the blue jays !! sorry had to go there lol

Before we get BJ, we’d need to get Wood.,

Metfreak December 7, 2008 at 8:00 pm

But we need to get Wood first

Metfreak December 7, 2008 at 8:01 pm

Beat me to it

wow, a post on a sunday night. things are heating up!!!

I would only want ryan as a set up guy. K-ROD should the mets closer next year.PERIOD!!!

K-ROD
RYAN
STREET

wow 3 closers in a bullpen. its highly unlikely this would happen but its not impossible.

Well, I do not think it is too unrealistic to see us go into the season with three closers in one bullpen. Probably K-Rod, Huston Street, and Chad Cordero will all be here.

I agree that the Mets shouldn’t worry about including Feliciano with Heilman in a deal for Street. In fact, I’d much prefer they deal Feliciano than a prospect, because I think Feliciano has less value than a Carp or Evans would. If we can save the prospects for another deal, why not?

Granted, out of all the relievers in the Mets’ horrific 2008 bullpen, Feliciano was one of the smallest concerns, but it would be no big tragedy if they got rid of him, too. A complete overhaul of the bullpen (except for Joe Smith) would be welcome.

I would keep Smith and Sanchez. The rest are expendable.

I agree matt. Id trade heilman and feliciano for street in a second. frankly I think feliciano is done, the guy runs out of gas every year in august. Schoe’s splits are very good against LH and very bad against RH he would be a very effective LOOGY.

I wouldn’t mind seeing Heilman + Feliciano for street. But why not off Heilman + Sho for Street instead?

taestee December 7, 2008 at 9:39 pm

my question: why do the rockies even want aaron heilman? huston street was a big up-and-comer just a year or so ago? since when is he worth only heilman and feliciano?

RikkDoc December 8, 2008 at 12:18 am

Uh, or why not include Nick Evans, who is redundant with Daniel Murphy anyhow?? Evans and Heilman for Street!

just-mlb December 8, 2008 at 9:09 am

Evans and Murph are no where near redundant

Evans is RH bat and plays a good defensive 1B…its possible he may form a platoon with Carp in the future…who knows

just-mlb December 8, 2008 at 9:13 am

and yes you need to have “the wood” first before u can get the b.j.

but then again as much as the bullpen was “blowing” games, I don’t think we need any b.j.’s from anybody
