Now is the time to get Tex- there will not be a big player of his calibre on the market for a long, long time, if ever- and we'll need a 1B in one year (maximum)...but personally I'd rather get rid of Delgado now.

The Mets should stay as far away from Dunn as humanly possible. He's can't hit anywhere higher then 6th, because of his low batting average and lack of clutch hitting. If you think to bat him second because of his high on base percentage, you will have to come to turns with his non-existing speed and his poor base running.Defensively, he's a crap outfielder and mediocre first baseman at his best.I would bet the farm, all those screaming for Dunn now, will be yelling and booing him before his contract runs out...Just Say No!!!!

I don't know if Delgado will be crappy but I don't think he'll come near his second half numbers. I think he'll be around what his final season numbers were, maybe slightly worse. Which will be good but I don't know if it will be good enough if we don't upgrade anywhere else.

mark, I agree that they will be better off starting the post-delgado era now. he has to have some value. I just see a crappy year out of him.

Meaning, pay him lots of $$ for no production again! Just like 2007.

It's seems SantanaClause has been drinking so volka filled eggnog. For The Mets to sign CC, they would have to outbid The Yanks, which will never happen. But for the sake of argument, let say The Mets sign CC...Why would they trade him after signing him? And why in hell would the Yankees trade Joba,Hughes(who they refused to give up for johan),and Cano for him? Step 3 was equally as dumb as step to so I won't get into it.It's two thirty in the afternoon, but I'm about to take a shot of patron in toast to you...Here's hoping you sober up.

tjones: Why would the Orioles want Luis Castillo? And why would the Orioles, seeking payroll relief, take on $9M more in payroll to get a worse player?

gina, agreed that the plan (or what little we can surmise, since none of it has actually been executed!) seems odd.

If they are really constrained by budget, and bargain shopping, don't expect much other than a closer and some spare parts.

I hope it is just biding time, waiting for the market to develop. Then if you get good deals, more money left later. Until the real good (and worth the $$) parts get snapped up, no biggee.

now, what I really hope it, Omar is trying to get the key stuff nailed down frugally enough that he can be a player for one of the (late signing) big names. Like Tex of course!

IMO, they do of course need a couple of SPs, but it is not a deperate situation that they land someone like CC. Just a couple of good quality guys.

And also IMO, the only real stud is CC. Beyond that, you have talented but injury prone, and old and overrated, and mr. erratic (sheets/burnett, Lowe and Perez in that order!)

And a bunch of overpriced mediocrity like Garland.

So, if CC isn't in the cards, and Lowe is really getting a ridiculous contract, get some ST parts (sheets/wolf/etc.) and fill in the gaps, and invest yor budget $$ in value stocks (like Tex).

hey, no one will complain if Omar manages his allowance real good, and is the one at the end with the money to pay the last stud!

I don't think the mets are looking at the "Upper Tier" starting pitchers, because they aren't all that good. Outside Sabbathia I really don't want Lowe or Burnett. I think Burnett is the only one worth the reported money because he can be an "Ace" if he stays healthy. Lowe isn't anything more then a reliable #3, yet he's going to be making 15+ million a year.

The Mets are smart to stay out of that.

Gina I am with you on Dunn and Tex though. I don't even like Delgado and wouldn't mind the post-delgado team starting this season!
