Buzz: K-Rod heading to NYC for Physical
By Matthew Cerrone - Dec 9, 2008 10:47 pm

Francisco Rodriguez will fly to New York City tomorrow to take his physical – in advance of completing a three-year deal with the Mets.

I have no idea when the team will hold a press conference, but it stands to reason it will be in New York, since it makes no sense, and there is no time, to go back to Vegas.

Plus, the team has the Rule V Draft on Thursday, after which the Winter Meetings will be over.

…man, i hope it’s at Citi Field…i am eager to get inside that place, and see what it’s all about

Time to win my first NL Cy Young.

  2. stc85 says:

I’m tired of these big offseason press conferences to introduce players. I want to be successful in September, I’m tired of winning the headlines in December.

I’m just not that enthused about this move, we need pitchers who can get to K-Rod, K-Rod is just one small piece of the puzzle.

  3. rockets212 says:

One of many to come Johan especially now that you dont have to throw 9 or sweat through the 9th

  4. GravediggerHebner says:

We’re going to have a uniform number issue with Frankie. Any of you that are in Vegas got any odds on what number he’ll take with the Mets?

  5. CaseStreet says:

    Let’s Get Physical!

  6. FSMetFan says:

Is it just me or is this the least excited you’ve ever been about an extremely important and good signing

  7. NYCESQ says:

    FSMetFan,

Maybe because the signing and the fruits of the signing are months away?

I’m exciting to see this guy pitch in the new stadium.

  8. bigvin86 says:

    I agree.
This signing is HUGE for this team and it seems like we just resigned Tatis or something.

And also, Matt, why are you saying you hope the press conference is in Citi Field because you “want to get inside that place” when you were just there last week and posted pics and videos of it all??

  9. NYCESQ says:

Maybe the press conference room is some magical place. I bet it looks great.

  10. taestee says:

yeah, hasnt matt been ther emultiple times already? anyway, im excited. hes gonna make the 9th innning ELECTRIC

  11. GravediggerHebner says:

Maybe Citi Field to Matt is like a hot girl with a winning personality, and he wants to get “inside that place” again.

  12. krod9 says:

    To Do List
    -Trade for Street
    -Sign Ohman and Cordero
    -Trade for Sonnanstine
    -Sign Dunn
-Acquire another starting pitcher (Lowe? Sheets? Garland? Wolfe?)
-Replace Castillo and ship ‘em out.
    -Possibly improve catching situation.

  13. CaseStreet says:

Maybe it’s not really Matt or maybe they just toured the outside but not the offices and other rooms.

  14. krod9 says:

    @GravediggerHebner
Adds a whole new meaning to “getting to first base”.

  15. NYCESQ says:

Swap Dunn with Ibanez, and i’m on board.

  16. krod9 says:

Honestly, NYCESQ, if they do everything else that I say, Ibanez is fine.

  17. bkfitz says:

It’d be dumb to go back to Vegas. They’ll probably do the press conference next Mon or Tues. Maybe this Fri but I doubt it.

  18. steelnickelz says:

Who cares where or when the press conference is. I want a parade not a press conference.

  19. FSMetFan says:

they can’t trade for street and sonnastine…its one or the other…so maybe they can sign juan cruz and the ntrade for sonnastine or edwin jackson…i guess id be ok with that

  20. Coolpapabell says:

…man, i hope it’s at Citi Field…i am eager to get inside that place, and see what it’s all about…

Matt, weren’t you just at citifield a week ago?

  21. krod9 says:

Of course they can trade for both. It just depends how they do it.

  22. vja says:

The Mets have a number of moves yet to make.

    Two starting pitchers
(Garland, Wolfe-free agents, Sonnanstine or Jackson in trade) or use Niese, others are too expensive.
    Two to four bullpen pitchers
Cruz, Street, take your pick …
At least one player for C, 2B, LF or RF
Ibanez or Dunn in the outfield
Dumping Castillo, signing Hudson at 2B
any one of may catchers are rumored after trading Schneider or Castro
Getting one utility (2B-SS-3B) bench infielder

  23. hotfoot86 says:

You guys are ridiculous. The Mets will try there best to move Heilman and Sho, and they may be successful. They may indeed bring back Street to set up for K-Rod. But there is no way a team is going to take Castillo off the Mets’ hands. The Mets don’t want to pay $18-million … it’s similar to when they tried all they could to not pay off Cedeno for that horrible signing back in the day. The team, and the manager – if you listen to his interview – are completely satisfied and confident in a Murphy-and-Tatis platoon in left field. You guys forget. The team missed the playoffs by one game in each of the last two seasons. This team doesn’t need an overhaul. Schneider – who had decent production in the 8th spot last season – will stay, as is Castro. I don’t know about anyone else, but I’d be perfectly fine with the team the Mets have going into the season, as long as they add or retain (Perez, Martinez) a few starting pitchers and add a few new faces to the bullpen.

  24. elephants says:

Trade Schnieder for Aubrey Huff. he is 31, left handed bat, Can play first, third and OF, hit 32 HRs and 102 rbi last year. Sign Irod to catch.
I agree, sign Randy Wolf. This is a 15-16 game winner on the Mets. he is 2 years removed from last real arm trouble. And, he just kills the Mets!
    NO to DUNN or Ibanez…
SIGN MANNY – 4 YEARS, 70 MILLION DOLLARS.

  25. Steviefan84 says:

Least excited? I guess I can understand since the Mets spit the bit twice and we as Met fans are kind of holding back feeling all excited and stuff about signing K-Rod. I’m excited because the 9th inning is going to be electric, especially the first time K-Rod’s music hits and he makes his way to the mound at Citifield.

I do however feel like the Mets need to build a bullpen besides K-Rod. K-Rod is a nice start, now building to bridge to Rodiguez is another job I hope Omar is up to.

  26. Steviefan84 says:

Pedro Martinez was pretty much batting practice and he is oft injured, so I don’t know about signing him to anything other than a spring training invitee.

  27. smark1342 says:

    @FSMetsFan
Yeah, totally. I think its because we knew they would sign him yesterday, and by the time it was official, the climax had already been reached. Anyway, I’m still excited. K-Rod!
