Mets GM Omar Minaya recently spoke to reporters in the team’s suite at the Bellagio in Las Vegas.
Minaya spoke later with SNY’s Matt Yalloff, which you can watch on SNY’s Mets Hot Stove airing at 7 pm.
Minaya again reiterated to Yalloff that the deal with Francisco Rodriguez is not complete, adding, ‘Like all deals, there are things that need to be worked out.’
When pressed on whether an agreement was in place, Minaya would only say, ‘We are continuing to have dialogue.’
Minaya said his focus continues to be improving the team’s pitching staff, as he looks at trades and free agents.
…by the way, though it has not been reported, nor did minaya say so in his briefing, from what i can gather, the Mets team doctor is in Las Vegas, meaning rodriguez will have his phsyical today or tomorrow – after which the team is likely to make an official announcement…so, figure on something official later tonight, or tomorrow morning…
…the way i heard it, the Mets very much want to make real news in Las Vegas, on the big stage, so i expect some sort of announcement, at a podium, tomorrow…

Please don’t make me nervous Omar.
Minaya has proven to be myopic and he’s shown he has no ability to multi-task. His statement about only searching for pitching is disturbing.
“we would like to also announce the mets have acquired huston street from Colorado”
man what a day it would be
The physical should not hold things up since Minaya gave a cripple a 4 year deal last year.

Oh my god, what do people get about being negative all the time? It’s a baseball team, if cheering for a team makes you think a GM’s remarks are “disturbing”, it may be time to take a step back…
so whats next on the agenda?
I’ll let you all know how excited this deal makes me when I see K-Rod getting outs in September and October.
Right now, spare me the drama. We still have two spots in the starting rotation to fill to even get the ball to K-Rod.

Sorry if the word disturbing is too large or strong of a word for you. Perhaps you should go over to the Oprah blog and whine over there..
So is he a Met or not and Please no Pedro PLEASE
Fiya Minaya, it is clearly YOU who belong on an Oprah-style blog for drama and nonsense….for you and Furioso and the li’l warrior above, this is a great day for the Mets. We got the best closer available, who is entering his prime, not at the end of it like Wagner, and Omar got him for half what we expected to spend overall, and without trading one player away…..
droman79 you are 100% right!
With all the excitement, it’s easy to forget that Francisco Rodriguez can’t make the team significantly better. It’s not like Wagner had a crappy year last year. So while he might be younger and a an improvement, the Mets still need, a solid starter, realiable relief, and more runs late in the game.
Thanks Kingman. My point is we need a helluva lot more than K-Rod to be successful as evidenced by last year’s performance by this team. I admire your spunk but there are too many problems with this team to be optimistic right now.

HA! I’m the one whining…
Fiya, no offense personally—we do need more, but if we had KRod’s performance as closer all year last year, don’t you think we would have, with everyone else doing EXACTLY the same thing, at least made the playoffs?
Reyes and Wright are just entering their prime….Church should be better as should Pelfrey…..Beltran should be the same….and if we can even slightly imrpove the rotation and have a healthy Maine, with KRod, the rest of the pen–even if it includes some of the same guys (and all signs point to improvements) will be less taxed and overworked.
All signs point to optimism!!
