O.k anyone who says that Michael Young isn't good is crazy but before last year he hit better than .300 in 5 straight years. i don't know about you but to have one of the fastest guys in baseball in Jose Reyes hit .300 and then have a patient, clutch hitter who will hit .300 isn't a bad 1 2 punch. Also about his fielding, ss is the hardest position to play, you get a ton of action over there plus you don't have to cover as much ground at 2nd base. I know that every met fan thinks that Jose Reyes is a great fielder, but last year when every body said that Jose Reyes should win a gg Michael Young had a better fielding percentage last year than Jose Reyes had in his whole career. Also the best batting avg Luis Castillo had is .334, 8 YEARS AGO after that its .314 which Michael Young has done better in 3 seasons RECENTLY Michael Young is a huge upgrade from Luis Castillo and i would LOVE to have him

He's terrible defensively, declining quickly offensively, and owed 16 million per through 2013. How is this better than Castillo?

As a Rangers fan, let me tell you guys: getting Michael Young (for anything) would be nothing to be excited about.

That said, I would be extatic to get rid of him. And if he made ya'll happy, all the better.

wow, Young is signed to a high dollar deal. 16MM/year...
scratch my offer for two top prospects as that would be too much.

btw, Young has a full not trade clause until 2010 when he can block a trade to eight teams. Then in 2011 he would be come a 10&5 if he stays in Texas.

Something tells me Texas is just putting out some feelers now and will really look to move Young in Jan 2010.

Young and Millwood
for
Castillo, and whatever prospects they want besides Fernando Martinez.

would Murphy, Niese, and Castillo be too much?

Michael young does have a history at 2nd base. He played there in 2001-2003, when some guy named Alex Rodriguez was playing short stop. He then moved to SS to accommodate some guy named Alfonso Soriano was playing there, before Kingsler was called up.

When he was at 2nd base he was a high .980's fielder with 8-10 errors. Which was where our boy Mr. Castillo was when he was at his best in FLA.

I'd say he would be adequate to be the Mets 2nd baseman. If the deemed his bat would continue.

His contract is brutal though.

the .340 lifetime with RISP is the stat that shows me his value. I can think of only a handful of players in baseball that I'd rather have at the plate needing a hit with the game on the line...

Kellman really

2004. Young had more hits, RBI's less k's, a better BA, a better Slug, a better OBP and more runs scored

2005 isn't even close Young destroyed Jeter in every category except BB

2006 Jeter killed young, but young had more Doubles, HR RBI's

2007 jeter had .10 pts better BA, Young had more hits, doubles, RBI's,

2008 Young had again .10 pts less BA, but still managed more hits, doubles, HR's RBI's.

Yes jeter gets him in Average every year. And "Clutch" yankee hits, cause every jeter hit is a clutch hit.

On a 3 year average for the 2. Young averages more Hits, More doubles, more HR's, less k's, about .05 less in BA, and a better Slugging percentage.

Sorry i don't see where jeter over 5 years has been more productive. Outside his 2006 season when he hit .341

What Young would have going for him as a 2B is that his his "good" skills as a SS might translate. He has pretty much no range as a SS, but good enough hands (11 errors is a product of not getting to as many balls as the average fielder, but his hands are good). I wouldn't want him, but at least he wouldn't be playing SS.

I don't understand...Hudson may have had a better OPS...but, Young in 2007 and 2008 had 201 hits and 184 hits, 80 runs and 102, 94 RBI and 82, and hit .315 average and .284, respectively

Hudson wasn't close to that...69 runs and 54, 124 H and 124, 63 RBI and 41 RBI, and average was similar with .294 and .304..
To be fair...Hudson in 2007 and 2008 played 139 games and 107 and young was over 150 in both.
There are big difference there and if I remember correctly they both bat #3.
