Andrew Baggerly of the Mercury News believes that CC Sabathia has rejected the Yankees six-year offer, though he admits to this being an unconfirmed report.
According to Baggerly, while the Brewers are considered the front runners, “the Giants had discussions with Sabathia’s camp last night, and they expect to have face-to-face meetings with the left-hander in San Francisco after the winter meetings.”
Meanwhile, in a post to the Los Angeles Times, Tony Jackson describes the Giants as ‘supremely confident that they are going to sign Sabathia.’
…the buzz in baseball for quite some time now has been that sabathia was eyeing the Dodgers or Giants the entire time…it appears he may get his wish…
At the same time, suddenly, the Yankees are being more aggressive in their pursuit of Derek Lowe and A.J. Burnett, reports Joel Sherman on his blog for the New York Post.
Update, 5:40 PM:
According to ESPN’s Baseball Tonight, the Yankees deny reports that Sabathia rejected their offer.
Speaking of starting pitchers…
Jon Heyman of SI.com believes ‘the Phillies and Yankees are two most prominent contenders for star free-agent pitcher Derek Lowe, who seeks at least a five-year deal for about $80 million.’
In a report for FoxSports.com, Ken Rosenthal says he would not be surprised to see Burnett get a five-year, $100 million deal from the Yankees.
According to Peter Gammons on ESPN’s Baseball Tonight, the Braves are still the front runners to sign Burnett, and could eventually guarantee him the fifth year.
Lastly, some reports suggest the Cubs are close to trading for Jake Peavy, while others suggest they are not – for details, check out MLB Trade Rumors.

According the Mike Francessa, C.C. doesn’t ‘deserve’ to wear pinstripes!
*rollingeyes*
That’s nice to hear.. the Mets need help with SP….
I hope they reject the Hankees. : P
Heh, heh . . . .
BTW, I one thousand and fifty-four the motion, this new comments sections is the pits.
All this, and still no edit function?
Haha. Francesca!!! Sour grapes.
This is a temporary comments section due to the overflow of traffic during the Winter Meetings. The old format will be reinstated next week. Matt made a post about it on Monday…
This is bad for the Mets. While I love watching the Yanks being left at the alter, this adds another, richer player to the secondary starting pitcher market. I wouldn’t be surprised if the yanks overpay Burnett and Lowe to the point that we lose out.
omar he wants to pitch in the nl and looks to hit. make an offer.
he’s considering milwaukee.
omar! omar!?! omar!
TOO BAD!!!!!! Let them settle for AJ and Lowe and whoever they wanna overpay for.
I’d rather the yankees get AJ if he gets them then that means the Braves dont and itll be funnier when he gets hurt for the yankees than if he’s healthy with the Braves. and if they sign Ollie we get their draft pick hahaha.
that yankee rotation is coming together nicely:
wang
pettitte or kennedy
rasner
hughes
ponson
love it
and then if pettitte goes to the west as well with his mentor joe torre….not even that…how great:
Wang
Rasner
Kennedy
Hughes
Ponson
Yanks deny that CC rejected their offer or are the Yanks in denial that CC rejected their offer?
I thought a long time ago that the fact he didn’t take the richest contract he’d get offered this winter was a sign he clearly didn’t want to go to the Yankees.
The question is how much is he really going to sign for now? I’d laugh my arse off if he signed for slightly (appx. 5-10 MM) more than the Brewer’s original offer.
Hehe. The Yankees are in denial.
From Baseball Prospectus:
–The Rockies have interest in Mets set-up reliever Aaron Heilman but will not include reliever Huston Street in a deal.
Amazing
OMar has to get on that, include castillo with heilman for street…hehehe
how about taylor bucholz for heilman?
trade shoe in a separate deal and keep feliciano
How about Clint Barmes for 2B?
Zen
I totally agree its as much about the National league as is is about a California based team…
Offer something anything over 120 or even 130..I know he’s not Santana but its a different market this year & if he gets Santana money give it to him…
Santana, CC & Pelfrey…WOW!!!! And if the Cubbies get Peavy this will offset the unbalance between the teams…
I believe C.C. wants to stay in Milwaukee.
haha if CC wont play for the yankees why on earth would he want to come to the mets especially when we wont be the ace!!!!
